I am by no means an artist, and historically, whenever I've been asked to draw something, the request has been met with a response something between reluctant acceptance and outright refusal. I can probably draw you a stick figure and a house with a poorly drawn tree. So image my surprise when I open up this book, fully expecting to laugh at the monstrosity that emerges from my page, and finish a guide just to find a cute little dragon staring back at me?
It could only be described as magical. Due to the constraints of timing and life, I didn't have time to try drawing more than the one dragon but that alone convinced me that I definitely need a copy of this book. If you want to draw some cute little critters, I highly recommend it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
I have been following Naomi Lord on instagram for more than 5 years so when I saw that she was releasing a book explaining all her secrets, I couldn't resist checking it out.
I found this drawing guide very clear and easy to follow. Each cute creature had several steps that made drawing them feel like you were an artist yourself. I also liked that it had little tips on materials and in colouring.
All in all, if you like this artist cute style then definitely have a look at this guide. I was very satisfied with the few creatures I tried to draw and it has encouraged me to try a new style and let my imagination flow.
I've really been on a "how to draw" kick lately. Which is funny, because I am a TERRIBLE drawer. I've been Bunny for over 20 years and I still can't draw any form of rabbit to save my life.
I've been reading a lot of these "Learn to Draw" books, and I've enjoyed trying to copy my favorites a few times, to see if practice makes perfect. (Spoiler in my case: It does not.)
Of all the books I've tried lately, though, this one feels the most complicated. Which is not fair, really, because what's complicated to me could be really simple for even a 10 year old.
But this has more of that draw circles/guide lines/erase that/now do this format, and I have learned that I'm terrible.
If you love a good mythical creature like I do, I really recommend this. Hopefully you're better at it than I am.
I really enjoyed this!! I think it explains how to make everything very simply and easy to understand. I think even if you don’t have a great knowledge of drawing you will be able to create such cute characters. I want the physical copy for references.
I always following Naomi Lord's work at Pinterest and always amazed with her creativity to create very cute design. Some of her redesign characters from books and movies are gorgeous too.
I am totally fans and this book make me believe I can trying to drawing my own creation with her top notch step by step tutorial. She breaking down each steps, process and useful apps to using. I mesmerized with huge amount of cuteness pouring from this book. Totally must have collection!

As an artist myself, I've been following Naomi Lord online for years now and I have always loved her work. Knowing that she had a book coming out, I was excited to request this and I was not disappointed. I primarily draw people so every time I try to creatures they look really bad, lol. But using this book, and with how Naomi broke down the creatures step by step, it helped my brain better understand how to draw animals.
Congratulations on your book Naomi, I'm so proud of you, and my sketchbook has never been filled with so many animals before, lol.
As a huge anime fan, I was immediately drawn to this book. The artist's drawings are without a doubt lovely and cutesy, capturing the whimsical essence of these magical creatures. With quite a big selection of drawings and simple step-by-step instructions, this book is a great way for budding artists to jump into the world of anime-inspired art.
I appreciated the inclusion of theoretical concepts right at the beginning, which added depth to the learning experience. However, as someone with a love for drawing but limited experience, I found that the book may not be as beginner-friendly as I had hoped. While the steps were straightforward, getting the hang of the techniques took more practice than I thought it would.
Nevertheless, for individuals with some drawing experience and a fondness for the anime art style, I believe this book offers a good selection of drawings to practice and opportunities to explore new types of drawings.
OMG, I adored this book!
I want to start drawing this creatures myself very soon.
I especially loved the otter-hybrid ofcourse, because otters are my favorite.
I think it was pretty neat with good directions on how to draw, so I will try to draw them myself soon.
I'll definitely buy a copy if I ever come across one.
My younger son and I had a lot of fun both working on our own versions of a Wendigo from this book and tried a few others like the werewolf. Every creature in this book is unique, fun, and interesting but also unspeakable adorable beyond words doing them justice. This is a great activity book to entertain anyone for hours and teach them how to draw numerous different creatures , and also learn techniques to further other drawing skills. It’s a little gem full of possibilities.
I loved this book so much! I’m a beginner but the instructions in this book were very easy to follow! I love how the instructions were formatted with Procreate in mind, which is the drawing app I use. I can’t wait to get my own copy of this book so I can continue to learn how to draw these super cute creatures!
Whether you're a fan of Naomi Lord or just cute animals, this is a good addition to anyone's collection. Lord is well known for her large portfolio of cartoon creatures both mythological and original. This guide has a plethora of images and references on her signature style. Overall, it is well laid out with a sensical timeline with tidbits about important details such as fur, wings, etc. in addition to the step by step process for various creatures.
This is the first art how-to guide seen by Lord, and she knocked it out of the park. While there's nothing ground breaking, it does what it set out to do without being cumbersome or overly tedious.
Cute Creature Art Class is an absolute delight! The instructions are clear, and each creature is given due attention so that you can draw with complete support. I feel this book is applicable for any age or skill level, but younger artists could be helped with supervision to understand the subtleties of the lines. This is certainly a comprehensive bestiary of all your favourite mythological creatures, so you're sure to find more than one that strikes your fancy.
Adorable how to book. lots of mythical creatures done in a cute and simple style.
easy to follow along with.
This is a really cute how to drawing cute for lots of magical creatures! It's broken up into sections, my favorite was the sea splashers part. Some of the designs in this book are a little more complicated and take up two pages, usually the more humanoid ones. If you want to draw a fluffy dragon or selkie, check this out!
I love love love this. I definitely will be adding a copy to my art shelf. I finished one drawing already of the Phoenix and it made it super easy and I can't wait to do more
As a teenager, I was always trying to find new books on drawing cute manga-style characters. It's been a couple of years since I really drew much, but recently I've been thinking of picking it up again.
This book has a large variety of cute creatures from different backgrounds, some fun information on said creatures, and steps that are both easy enough yet not so simple that you feel condescended to.
This book had many cute animals and fantasy creatures, will easy-to-follow steps on how to draw them.
I'm so stunned by the art, I can't talk or think. This is beautiful in a way that manage to seem easy while it's not. The guide it's complete and precise, but the work in this book it's just magnificent.
Please, read it, whatever you are planning to draw or not!
to be honest I'm still toying with the idea of drawing and painting but with this detailed guide I might even bite the bullet and go for it. absolutely cute and easy to follow. loved, loved, loved it.
