The Perfect Punch Needle Embroidery Guide offers a fun and modern take on punch needle embroidery with its collection of 17 trendy projects inspired by tattoo art. The book is well-structured, making it accessible for both beginners and seasoned crafters. The instructions are easy to follow, and the accompanying photography and diagrams are quite helpful for visual learners.

However, while the designs are bold and eye-catching, some of the projects may feel a bit repetitive after a while. A bit more variety in themes or styles could have added to the overall experience. Still, it's a solid resource for anyone looking to dive into punch needle embroidery or explore fresh techniques. Overall, it’s a delightful addition to any crafter’s library.

I really enjoyed browsing this book. I have recently seen a lot of punch needle crafts on social media, but this book opened my eyes to the diversity of projects that I could do. I think the explanations of the basics were complete and can give a beginner a nice start to the projects. I would definitely start with one of the projects in the book (if not a few of them!) before branching off on my own.

Great book for learning to do punch needle.

I wish this book would have been available when I learned to do punch needle. I saw it in a shop and the owner taught me how to do it. Which worked but having a book as a reminder is better. Punch needle is a craft where the results are faster than needlepoint or cross stitch. And there is no counting involved if you have a pattern to follow.

The book starts with a great table of contents with page numbers. So you can read start to finish or use this book as a reference in the future. This book does a great job of telling you exactly what you will need to do punch needle. It also describes the types of needles used and how to thread them. Different yarns are discussed, as well as the different fabrics for the craft.

Then we get to the chapter called Let's get punching. This is where the fun begins. There are details about putting your design on the material you are going to use. Then there are designs to try with ideas for finishing each one. All designs have templates in the back of the book. There are also extra templates back there.

This book recommends have a sewing machine. But If you do not have one, just finish your projects in a way that one is not required.

This was fun!! with very cool designs and excellent instructions. If you're very new to punch needlework, you may still need to watch a video or two to get the hang of it—but be warned, it's addictive! Don't be intimidated or discouraged if it all seems really hard at first; once you get going, it's easy to produce really stunning work, and books like this will show you just how fantastically creative you can be with it. Although it says "tattoo designs" on the cover (and I'm sure they are), this is just a way of describing simple, easily reproducible graphics, and this is an excellent entry-point.

Really lovely, and highly recommended! Well worth your time. Thank you to Fox Chapel Publishing and to NetGalley.

Finally, a punch needle explanation book!!! AND it’s bright, colorful, easy to understand, and the artist is repping a Lucy & Yak outfit (which I love, so huge bonus points there).

I feel like I’ve been searching for clear and fun punch needle instructions forever (somehow no one has nailed it yet). They’re either too short, lack real instruction, doesn’t tell you what tools to use, etc…but this book is the EXACT opposite. I feel like I finally have a grasp on what to do. I use a lot of different mediums in my art, and I’m SO excited to start needle punching, now that I finally understand it.

I've heard of punch needle embroidery, but didn't really know what it was. Since I have a fascination with all fibre craft, and tattoos as well, I thought this would be a good entry into learning about the craft. It serves as a strong introduction, with information about how to begin and troubleshooting. The projects are varied, and give lots of choices. One of the strongest things about this book is that it is empowering. It gives techniques an ideas, but leaves the details in the hands of the fibre artist. So, did I try punch needling? It's a pretty low bar to entry - the punch needle tool is about 5 bucks, and I've already got an embroidery hoop and lots of yarn. I haven't tried it yet, but that's because I am quite busy with other crafts, but this book certainly tempted me, and I may yet try it.

I was very excited about reading and reviewing this book as I’ve always wanted to learn how to do punch needle. The book didn’t disappoint. There are fabulous pictures and detailed instructions that will satisfy any beginner.

The projects are colorful and inspiring. I love the way the author includes information about the tattoo in the form of meanings, history, and mythology.

All the templates for the designs in the book are included as well as some additional designs.

The book is divided into the following sections:
Tools and Materials in which the author gives information about the different types of punch needles as well as show you how to thread it.

Designs and Templates in which the author explains about using the printer to enlarge or decrease a design. She also instructs you on how to trace a design onto your fabric.

Let’s Get Punching which is where you learn how to punch, punching tips, changing yarn color and creating different stitches.

Finishing Your Piece with details on how to make an envelope-back cushion cover, a circular cushion, and making a tassel.

Troubleshooting which had great information on figuring out what you could be doing wrong.

Projects which there are several of. Some of my favorites were the Monogrammed Laurel Wreath Hoop Art, Anchor Cushion Cover, and the Lucky Dice Key Ring.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions are my own.

What a great crash course in punch needle embroidery. I've been interested in trying punch needling for a little while and the fun tattoo inspired designs in this book really caught my eye. Just what my ADHD brain needed. A new hobby to while away the winter.

I am at the early stages of doing punch needle, but I really like this fibre craft because I find it relatively easy to do and very rewarding in terms of the end product. I also opted for this over getting a tufting gun to try rug tufting because baby steps .... To this end and as a beginner, I really appreciated this book. First, the instructions at the start for how to punch needle and how to troubleshoot different challenges were well mapped out with explanations and corrections. I actually went back to an earlier punch needle item and used some of the techniques to fix a few things that had gone wrong that I had not thought to fix. The combination of clear language and photos worked wonders for walking me through what to do, including the different options for punch needles and fibre.

Once I got into the patterns, I expected to be less engaged because I wasn't really interested in tattoo designs. But I was pleasantly surprised. The patterns are not too challenging, which for a beginner is good, but they still had some variety for more experienced punch needle artists. And they were bright, fun, and definitely not what I had expected.

All in all, I would definitely pick this book up as a novice, learning the craft, or as someone more experienced, looking for inspiration. What I also think this book does is show that you can likely grab tattoo patterns from various sources and use those as another source of inspiration for punch needle designs.
