I love this series! This new installment is fantastic and fun. There's a little movement in the romance too. Can't wait for the next one!

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh' is perfect in every way for lovers of Jane Austen and exceptional storytelling. I felt as if I was once again with cherished characters whose temperaments were exactly as they ought to be if Miss Austen herself wrote this book. Mr. Jonathan Darcy and Miss Juliet Tilney are called upon to solve the mystery of who is attempting to kill Lady Catherine. There are delicious side stories along with the puzzling mystery, and all combine to make a wonderful story. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Lady Catherine de Bourgh is a name that brings a clear picture of someone who commands that people respect her, She is the patron of our boiled potato loving Mr. Collins. Together, they, and a few more memorable Austen characters, bring back Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney to solve another mystery, Claudia Gray brings this couple together again, this time because someone is trying to unalive Lady Catherine.

These two are charming and sweet with both so focused on gathering clues surrounding the mystery at hand to entertain their growing feelings, Jonathan has mannerisms that seem what we in modern times call neurodivergent, I also like the handling of different aspects of disability. This is a particular notice of mine, not a focus of the book.

So who is trying to mortally harm Lady Catherine? The suspects are numerous, but there is only thorough deduction from Darcy and Tilney. These two are charming and their deduction is completely realistic and plausible. This is a fun cozy mystery that is an enjoyable addition to this series and I hope for more in the future ,

I received an early copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest review

A mystery set in the world of Pride and Prejudice, with several of its beloved characters? Pure bliss!

Claudia Gray masterfully captured the tone and wit of Austen in this delightful mystery. Her characters were expertly drawn, the story and plot were compelling, and the slow burn romance between the main characters was just lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The mystery is on the cozy side, and the pace is a gentle one. Historical mystery fans who like authentic dialogue and settings should check this one out.

Thanks to Vintage Books, NetGalley, and Austenprose for a review copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

This is a sturdy 3 star for me.

It felt like maybe this title series is a bit played out.
This could also be because the writing seemed so different to last book. I wasn’t very captured by the book. It felt far to long and lots of words to say nothing. Also I just think we know the romance plot that is there and at this point it’s willful miscommunication. There may not have been much point to this installment. Honestly I’m sad to say so. I hope for better in the future

Make sure to check CW/TW I want to mention I’m still very unsure how much more I want to hear how Jonathan’s stims and such are “unpleasant” I feel like we are being told how “disgusting” his behavior would be/is to everyone that it kinda hurts my heart and makes me wonder why we keep pointing this out so often.

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh is the latest installment in Claudia Gray’s Mr Darcy and Miss Tilney series, which follows the two young investigators as they try to unravel the mystery behind an attempted murder.

Though the prior books in this series dealt with actual murders, the plot of The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh centers instead on an attempted murder. This was an incredibly interesting approach in my opinion, especially as it meant that our two main characters had little to no tangible evidence during their investigation. Instead, they spent a majority of their time simply talking to the other characters and making inferences based on what they were told. The ultimate resolution of the mystery felt kind of obvious, however the investigation itself revealed a lot of interesting things about both our recurring characters and familiar characters who were new to the series as of this book. In particular, I enjoyed the time spent with Charlotte and the rest of the Collinses. I also found myself thoroughly invested in the story of Anne and Colonel Fitzwilliam, which was a pleasant surprise. I do think this book’s pace was a bit slow-going, even more so than prior installments, but I’ve found a sweet peace in settling into the minutiae of Darcy and Tilney’s investigation and conversation. I honestly can’t wait for the next book and to see their relationship grow.

Jane Austen meets Tommy and Tuppence in this third historical cozy mystery set in the world of Jane Austen’s novels after all those earlier happily ever afters. Claudia Gray has established a brilliant and sparkling Regency world from the dialogue to the dress and no less dazzling clever murder mystery for her young sleuths to tackle.

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh is the third installment in the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney series. Though each mystery is standalone, there is a progression of Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney’s detecting and personal relationship.

The first book was set in the world of Emma and the second visited Sense & Sensibility. Each deliver something of a sequel ‘where they are now’ mixed with a fresh murder mystery. Now, the series shifts to the world of Pride & Prejudice. Jonathan and Juliet are autocratically summoned to Rosings to tackle the difficult task of keeping cantankerous and bossy Lady Catherine de Bourgh from getting killed. Everyone who has ever known the woman might be forgiven for wanting to take a potshot at her, but who among them all surpasses annoyance and irritation to hate her enough to kill her?

As the attempts grow gradually nearer to success and with the pressure of everyone’s secrets coming out whether part of the current case or not, Rosings Park and the local parsonage are a pot getting ready to boil over with Jonathan and Juliet in the middle.

I’ve always loved that Claudia Gray wrote Jonathan as being on the spectrum, though there wasn’t a hint of seeing his behavior as anything more than weird or disturbing to the people back then. Juliet sometimes reads him wrong, but from nearly the beginning, she has liked and respected his differences and sees them as strengths. Together, they are an oddity as upper class gentlemen and especially ladies didn’t enter into detecting murder.

In this latest, the pair are at cross purposes in their personal lives both thinking the other isn’t interested and meanwhile, their fathers only see class and personality differences so give them no encouragement, but as the case progresses, the pair begin to slowly work through their wrong assumptions. I love them together and was impatient to see an understanding come, but I can also appreciate that, under the circumstances of mystery work, societal rules, and family expectations that resolution can’t be swift.

Meanwhile, the mystery was one that had me and the amateur detection team stumped and pointing fingers at nearly everyone because between the Collineses at the parsonage, the Fitzwilliams at the main house, and some of the servants, there were a lot of secrets and suspicious behavior going on. But, through interviews and investigating evidence with meetings to share their observations and questions, they finally catch a break and the truth is there.

The pace is gentle and the tone is definitely on the cozy side, but I was thoroughly captivated and can’t wait for the next installment. Historical cozy mystery fans who like great attention to authentic dialogue, behavior, and setting should really give this series a go.

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh is a quietly told cozy mystery set in Jane ‘Austen’s imaginary world.

In this cozy mystery, amateur detectives Miss Juliet Tilney and Jonathan Darcy combine efforts in an attempt to prevent the murder of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. The story unfolds at the Rosings Park estate and a large number of suspects are considered.

Fans of quietly and gently told cozy mysteries will appreciate this story set in the world of Jane Austen. Readers of Austen will recognize characters which adds another layer of interest. Even though this is the third in a series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.

If you enjoy slow, slow burn romance, you will like the romantic possibility of Juliet and Jonathan. I really hoped that this story would move the relationship forward just a little, but we seem to be spinning our wheels here. Juliet and Jonathan spend a great deal of time contemplating the possibility and wondering about the other one, but by story’s end we end up just about where the previous installment left off. Part of this can be attributed to Jonathan who seems to be neurodivergent. This lack of progress in the romance department disappoints me a bit because I was expecting more.

You will love Juliet and Jonathan. They are earnest and clever and they work well as a team. In fact, you will love Jane Austen’s characters who take turns appearing in this series. It seems that each book might focus on expanding characters from a different Austen title. In this way, the series might fall into the “fan fiction” category.

This cozy mystery series is perfect for fans of Jane Austen who want to spend more time in her world. The author’s writing fits nicely with Austen’s style as she reimagines and expands Austen’s work. If you love Austen, consider this series!

The young Mr. Jonathan Darcy and Ms. Tilney are summoned to Rosings Park as someone is trying to kill Lady Catherine de Bourgh and she hopes they might be able to find the perpetrator before they succeed or, even worse, the authorities need to be involved. It's a chance for the two friends to once again use their smarts and work together to solve a mystery, but there are too many suspects and motives. Will they be able to find the culprit before Lady Catherine comes to harm? And will they find a chance to discuss how they really feel about each other without their fathers interfering?

I loved the first book so much that I can't figure out why this one didn't manage to keep my attention. We are once again in the world of Jane Austen in a creative mix of known and original characters trying to solve a murder attempt, it sounds like I'd be devouring it like I did the first one. The relationships every character has with Lady Catherine are fascinating and make the case a very complex one because you can certainly understand why some would want to get out from under her thumb. The added side story of the young people trying to figure out what they are to each other and if there's any hope in a future together made for some sweet moments. Alas, something is missing that left this volume almost soporific. I can't even pinpoint what it is because so much happens within the plot, but Ms. Tilney and the young Mr. Darcy failed to keep me engaged in their story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Vintage for the chance to read it!

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bough marks the 3rd book in a mystery series that stars some of Jane Austen's most beloved characters. (Side note: It's completely brilliant to take characters from Austen's novels and put them together.) Here we find Mr. Jonathon Darcy and Miss Juliet Tilney again called upon to, instead of solve a murder, PREVENT one from happening. The imperious Lady Catherine has had some attempts upon her life and she heard that Miss Tilney and young Mr. Darcy had a hand in solving 2 previous murders. She is most anxious to have this culprit caught and that no one be the wiser.
Once again, the day is saved, and once again, efforts to bring Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney together for courting purposes, are thwarted. Makes me wonder how many more novels we can expect from this series.

4.25/5⭐️

First, I must say that I’m enjoying this series so very much. The characters, the humor, the plot lines…it’s all so fun and entertaining.

This particular episode of the adventures of the intrepid Mr. Jonathan Darcy (son of Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth) and Miss Juliet Tilney (daughter of Henry and Catherine), finds the sleuths summoned to Rosings Park, the home of the redoubtable Lady Catherine de Bourgh, to unearth the villain who has made repeated attempts on the lady’s life. Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney have not seen each other for a year (not since their last investigation) and are both excited to be reunited. Not only are they thrilled to re-establish their friendship and stretch their mental prowess, but they are relieved to be working towards preventing a murder rather than solving one.

Lady Catherine de Bourgh is one-of-a-kind and Gray handled her pompous and controlling character deftly and with great humor. We also have guest appearances from Darcy (the elder) and Elizabeth, Henry and Catherine Tilney, Colonel Fitzwilliam and his wife Anne (Lady Catherine’s daughter), and the Collinses, William and Charlotte and their children Katy and Deb. They are all engaging and a joy to follow alongside.

But it is the sweet and innocent burgeoning relationship between Jonathan and Juliet that steals the spotlight. They both seem so perfectly suited, both professionally and personally, that for me their time together on stage is both effortless and comforting. I love how they seemingly read each other’s minds and intuitively understand the other’s strengths and struggles.

My only caveat with this one was in its pacing. I’m sure that part of that was due to the unique nature of this particular investigation (a “live” victim), and perhaps the fact that there was another storyline between the Fitzwilliams also taking place simultaneously. I felt that the mains were slower and a bit repetitious in covering certain aspects of the case, and I didn’t feel quite the suspense factor that I have in the past.

A wonderful addition to this fun, often tongue-in-cheek series and looking forward to more.

Recommended.

My sincere thanks to the author, NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor for providing the free early arc of The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh for review. The opinions are strictly my own.

Having been thrown together by happenstance to investigate murder in the first two books, Mr. Jonathan Darcy and Miss Juliet Tilney are instead commanded to attend to Lady Catherine de Bourgh and stop the murder attempts being made upon her life. Young Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney are pleased to be able to see each other again and determined to catch the culprit before they are successful in their attempts. Their fathers are far less enthusiastic, though the do agree to travel to Rosings Park with them. Both fathers have every intention of quashing any possible match between their offspring. Lady Catherine thinks solving murders reflects poorly on both their characters, but she will condescend to set that aside.

One of the things that I think Claudia Grey does best is imagine Jane Austen’s characters outside of their books. She does a good job of keeping them consistent, while also looking at them through contemporary eyes. I continue to appreciate that her characters, even the villains are complex and dimensional. And when they are not, there is a reason for their flatness. She isn’t writing the characters and situations the way Austen would, but I don’t think she is remaking the characters. Mr. Darcy is still Mr. Darcy. It was interesting seeing the Collins after a couple of decades of marriage and family. Mr. Collins, of course, named his son De Bourgh (Deb) and his daughter Catherine (Kady). Anne de Bourgh is now Anne Fitzwilliam, having married her cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam. If you are looking for a romance in this book, this is the romance you are given.

Jonathan, having listened to his father and become concerned for Juliet’s reputation, gets the two of them off on the wrong foot. But through working together, they become even closer, though not as close as some readers (me, I’m some readers) would like. It was interesting to watch their parents make some of the same mistakes we saw in Austen’s books. I’m interested to see how Claudia Grey is going to bring them together again, but I suspect we’re in for a few more books before Jonathan and Juliet are settled with each other. Still, Gray does move them forward in interesting ways and hints at their next meeting.

There is so much I’m not talking about because it would be too spoilery.

I received this as an advance reader copy from Vintage Books and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

Thank you to NetGalley, Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor, and Claudia Gray for the advanced copy of The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh!

For fans of Pride and Prejudice, this book will be perfect for you! This series follows one of the children of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy and a new character, Miss Tilney, as they pair up to investigate murderous circumstances. In this installment, both are called to Rosings Park to discover who is trying to harm Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Those that have read/watched P&P know that Lady Catherine de Bourgh is certainly not the easiest to work with, and her relationships with those around her are interesting indeed.

This cozy mystery kept me guessing right up until the end when they revealed the culprit. I loved it!

I think this was my favorite of all three Mr Darcy and Miss Tilney mysteries that Gray has written thus far. Interestingly though, this is maybe my least favorite of the substantive mysteries. The conceit is interesting, Lady Catherine de Bourgh has had many attempts on her life and thus summons Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney to her side in order to try to find the culprit. The young people happily reunite although their chaperone fathers aren't quite so keen. I understand why Mr. Tilney isn't super inclined to the match as he deems Jonathan indifferent (mostly because Juliet tells him) but I'm not sure why Mr. Darcy isn't into the match. It seems unlikely that he would still be such a snob considering who he married, but alas we need some conflict so here we go.

I really enjoyed seeing Jonathan and Juliet back together. They have great chemistry and Juliet is the only one who really seems to understand Jonathan and specifically asks him not to mask for her. Now that I've been with them through three books, I am really rooting for them and find myself drawn to their relationship more so than the Austen references or even the mysteries that take center stage in these books. Gray is an extremely deft writer and this book was extremely thoughtful. I can tell how much she loves the Austen source materials and even though some of the characterizations may not have worked for me (what the Collins' named their children because really?) but a lot of them were very understandable and I saw what she was getting at. These aren't necessarily meant to be exact characterizations but instead more of a reimagining and I really enjoy the way she uses what we already know to inform these new stories.

I really am excited to read more in this extended universe and I hope Jonathan and Juliet are reunited soon!

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh was another delightful installment of the Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney and Mysteries. The author gets the regency tone so right, and we’re immediately transported back into Jane Austen’s world. This time, no murders have taken place yet, but someone is trying to kill Lady Catherine de Bourgh (from Pride and Prejudice). Juliet and Jonathan, having had success in solving murders before, are sent for to find the culprit before they succeed.

It seems like almost everyone at Rosings Park is hiding something, and with Lady C being so disagreeable, it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t have a motive. It’s fun to be back in this world. I really like these characters, and Juliet and Jonathan are so sweet together. You don’t have to read the other books in this series before you read this one, but they are referred to a couple of times. I enjoyed this book and recommend it! It comes out today. Thank you to Netgalley and Vintage Books for the eARC.

This is the third in the series of cozy mysteries centered around the characters from the various Jane Austen novels. Jonathan Darcy, son of Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, and Juliet Tilney, daughter of Catherine and Henry Tilney from Northanger Abby, have solved two murders in the past two books. They have been summoned by none other than Jonathan’s great-aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, to solve the mystery of who is trying to kill her. This book brings back a lot of the characters from Pride and Prejudice and throws in a fun Mystery as well. Jonathan and Juliet are sweet characters who both like each other, but think the other is not interested in them, so there is a bit f a slow burn romance brewing.. Overall a very enjoyable read, if you are a fan of cozies and Jane Austen. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

I love this series! I’m amazed at how well the author is able to capture these beloved Jane Austen characters so it easily feels like reading a continuation of the story. This is the third book in the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney mystery series and with each book, I find I love these characters more and more. As the title suggests, this time Jonathan Darcy & Juliet Tilney have been summoned by the illustrious Lady Catherine de Bourgh to figure out who has been attempting to murder her. Is it all in her imagination, or is someone really out to get her?

Mr. Jonathan Darcy is the son of Elizabeth & Fitzwilliam Darcy. His neurodivergent personaility is captured so well. He’s highly intelligent, but struggles in his interactions with others. Though he has feelings for his investigative partner in crime Juliet Tilney, it’s difficult for him to express those feelings. I loved how he tried so hard to make improvements in the ways he communicates especially with Juliet.

Juliet Tilney is an intelligent young woman who thrives in the investigations she and Jonathan have been plunged into. Though she harbors feelings for Jonathan, he seems not to regard her at all other than as a competent friend. As the investigation draws them together once again, their relationship grows as well. I love the way they work together and how Juliet is so excepting of Jonathan and all his idiosyncrasies.

I loved the mystery! It was so well done and reminiscent of an Agatha Christie whodunnit where all the suspects reside in one household. The main suspects include Lady Catherine’s daughter Anne, her husband Colonel Fitzwilliam, Mr. And Mrs. William Collins, and their two children, along with several others who all have reasons for murder. Mr. Darcy & Juliet’s father Henry Tilney are there as well to watch over their children. With each attempt on Lady Catherine’s life, the suspicions mount, and I found myself eagerly trying to puzzle out who the would be murderer was. I loved following each of the clues leading up to a nail-biting conclusion.

It’s a great mystery that captures all the feelings of a Jane Austen novel combined with Agatha Christie. Can’t wait for the next mystery Jonathan & Juliet are entangled in! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and vountarily provided.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next installment in this mystery series pretty much from the second I put down the previous book! It’s always a bit of a question mark when an author produces a fantastic first book in a series. But nothing compares to the relief of finishing the second one with the reassurance that it wasn’t a one off thing! No, Claudia Gray is just that talented! It also takes a lot of the low-key dread out of waiting for the next book. Yes, I’ve been impatient, but I knew when it finally arrived, it would be well worth the wait! And how right I was!

As I’ve said, I very much enjoyed the first two books in the series. But while I still rated the book previous to this one highly, it was a bit held back by the Austen characters involved in the mystery. I love “Sense and Sensibility,” but Elinor is the obvious draw, with Marianne coming in a distinct second. On top of that, Mr. Willoughby is so despicable a character the he’s the sort of villain that you don’t so much “love to hate” but just straight up hate. And then in the original, we never even meet Mrs. Willoughby. All of this to say, while that book was good, it was a bit hampered by the fact that the mystery revolved around a cast of characters who fall a bit further down on my list of preferred Austen characters.

Not so with this one! People often think only of Elizabeth and Darcy when they think of the brilliance that is “Pride and Prejudice.” But Gray is here to remind us of the phenomenal comedic characters that fill out that story, creating a mystery that revolves around the people who make up the Rosings Park household. As the title would suggest, we get a heavy dose of Catherine de Bourgh and her…particular approach to being the target of attempted murder (scorn, sometimes even at the fact that the would-be-murderer has been so incompetent as to not even be successful!).

We also get a better look into the Collins’s family. Mr. Collins, of course, is hilarious, as is witnessing Miss Tilney’s skepticism that his adoration of Catherine de Bourgh has to be exaggerated, as no one could truly be that profuse in their exhortations of some like Catherine. Even more interesting, however, was the extended look we get into Mrs. Collins, Elizabeth’s old friend. This is obviously not the focus of the story, but there was a lot of interesting character work done with even the few chapters that really dive into Mrs. Collins and her psychology. I also enjoyed seeing more of Lady Catherine’s daughter, Miss de Bourgh, as well as her husband, Colonel Fiztwilliam. Again, with very little page time, I was impressed with how well Gray explored this sort of relationship, the kind where marriage comes first, love second, and even then, it is only slowly understood.

I also continue to be impressed by how masterfully Gray manages to depict what have to be intimidating characters to write, like Darcy and Elizabeth. But not only do they read as perfectly inline with the originals, but I loved see them put in the same scene with other Austen characters and, essentially, watching what happens. For example, we see Mr. Darcy and Mr. Tilney (two beloved heroes in their own right) immediately butt heads. With the former thinking the latter isn’t a serious person, and the latter thinking the former is a bit of a prig. It’s just so perfect! Of course this is how these two would react to one another!

And now I’ve written an incredibly long review without even touching on our main characters, Miss Tilney and Jonathan Darcy. But, of course, this is because they remain excellent. I will say that I was pleased to see them progress a bit more in this book. They’ve spent a fairly significant amount of time now misunderstanding the other’s interest, and I was becoming a bit worried that this would be drawn out too long. But instead, it’s handled well while still not resolving the entire situation. Specifically, I liked the exploration of Darcy’s struggles to put up a “more dignified” front in his hopes to “convince” Miss Tilney that he was a viable romantic interest. It was an interesting look into the mindset up a character with what seems to be low key autism.

Overall, I loved this book! It built on what had been previously established with regards to our main characters’ relationship, while also making neat use of a large cast of beloved (belovedly ridiculous!) characters. I can’t recommend this series enough to other Austen fans!

Rating 9: Simply fantastic, a masterful example of how to take classic characters and retain all that makes them great while also plopping them down in wholly novel places and situations to see what happens!

In the third installment of the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Series, the pair are summoned to the home of Jonathan's great-aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Lady Catherine has had three attempts on her life and wants the duo to root out the attempted murderer/murderess, before they attempt a fourth time (and possibly succeed). Although the two are delighted to be reunited once again - despite the dire circumstances of course - they would rather it be without their respective fathers who insist on chaperoning them. To make matters worse, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and Mr. Henry Tilney, take an instant dislike to each other, and are determined that the relationship between Jonathan and Juliet will progress no further than mere friendship. As the attempts on Lady Catherine continue to escalate, and no one among their list of suspects fits their profile of being able to attempt all of those attacks on her life, it becomes a race against time to uncover the murderer before one of those attempts actually hits it's target.

I adore this series. I admit I have never read a single Jane Austen book, but I love all of the Jane Austen mash-ups. I find them delightful, and this series is my favorite. Once I pick the book up, I do not want to put it down until I am done. I not only love Jonathan and Juliet as a murder solving duo, but each book I have my fingers crossed that this is the book that they finally wind up together. I think one of the things I love most about them is how Jonathan is on the spectrum, and Juliet understands him and doesn't judge him like other people do. She knows exactly when he is going into sensory overload and finds an excuse for him to remove himself from the situation. They are perfect together, and Jonathan's mom Elizabeth sees it. Now she just has to convince her stubborn husband., as well as Juliet's parents! The mystery in this book will keep you guessing until the very end., and everything is wrapped up nicely for pretty much every character. Each of the books in the series can be read as a standalone, but trust me, once you read one, you will want to read them all. If you are a fan of mysteries, or Jane Austen mash-ups, then you are going to love this!
