Our Fight
By Ronda Rousey
5⭐️
I knew of Ronda Rousey before I read her new book, Our Fight. I followed her via the media. Through the likes of ESPN, People, and TMZ, I got the Ronda Rousey "highlights" version. So I was aware of the UFC record, her movie roles, and the wrestler versions of Rousey. She opens up in Our Fight to tell us how she REALLY feels about it everything, how she handles change on her life and facing her fears. She is honest and even blunt on all aspects of her journey- positive, negative, and all the in betweens.
I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m surprised with how candid Ronda is in this book about her experience with WWE. Too often, we’re stuck with sanitized accounts of WWE backstage dealings but Our Fight was an unfiltered, honest look at the wrestling business from someone who has main evented Wrestlemania within the past 5 years. I read this book within 48 hours and couldn’t put it down. A must read for any UFC/WWE fan
Our Fight is a comprehensive look back at the last 15-20 years of Ronda Rousey’s career from her early days as an Olympic Judo medalist, to her start in MMA, and her work with the WWE, plus everything in her personal life that has happened in between.
What an awesome book! Some of the things I really enjoyed about this book were how reflective it was. She looks back at each phase of her life and touches on lessons she learned along the way, whether that be in the moment or after the fact. She does an awesome job of breaking it down from the outside looking in. This was a nice quick read that really flowed well from one segment of her life to the next, while still including small details that help set the mood.
Roughly the last 50% of this book focuses on her WWE career along with her journey into motherhood. I would say this is what really pushed this from a 4 star up to a 5 star book for me. Getting a behind the scenes look at her runs with the WWE was extremely interesting and detailed a good amount of things that I had no idea happened.
This book was provided to me by Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for my honest and fair opinion, but I can say with certainty that this is a book that I would recommend to anyone that even has the slightest interest in nonfiction or memoirs
I stayed up all night reading this book! I thoroughly enjoyed Rousey's first memoir and was eagerly-anticipating her next work. It did not disappoint! She was incredibly candid, thoughtful, reflective, and honest in this raw account of the hardest years of her life and career as a professional fighter. I felt enlightened, but also, empathetic for the pain and consternation she endured from fans, coaches, and the media alike.
Rousey's story deserves to be told and her candor makes this anything but a run-of-the-mill celebrity autobiography.
