I enjoyed this book with it's nod to the supernatural but read the second one first by mistake.

The books are fine read as standalone books as any important information is laid down for you throughout the book. Questions that are left hanging in this first book are answered in the second.

The characters are good but mostly not very likeable - some actually horrible.

Not my favourite book but helped pass the journey to work happily

The death of a local teen sparks controversy. As the police begin investigating, there is more to reveal than first meets the eye. Two twin sisters begin to dig into some of the secrets, but they have secrets of their own. As the town is still healing from a massive accident years before, there seems to be a connection - but no one has yet to connect the dots.

Great read! I absolutely loved this one! I had no idea this series existed until I accidentally came across the audio version on NetGalley. I jumped at the chance to read something from a favorite author. I was not disappointed, even though these are more geared toward teen readers. Highly enjoyable!

I want to thank Gregg Olsen for another fantastic read, as I am never disappointed with his work. Thank you also to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced audio copy for my review. All thoughts above are my own.

Book Review ⭐️⭐️✨ rounded up to 3. I have read so many of Gregg Olsen books so when I saw the opportunity to read this one through @netgalley I jumped at the chance. It’s a YA paranormal mystery following the death of teenager Katelyn and the small town she lived in. Twins Taylor and Haley have a gift so they’re using it to uncover the truth about their friends death.. they don’t believe it’s suicide. There are tons of characters multiple POVs, and a couple story lines I found myself lost quite often and just waiting to figure out what was actually going on. The ending wasn’t suspected but also went off on another tangent that I couldn’t figure out why or how it fit. Beneath her Skin was published under another name several years ago and there’s a sequel. I will stick to his true crime and adult fiction from now on!

Beneath Her Skin

Author: Gregg Olsen
Publisher: Bookouture Audio
Narrator: Karen Peakes
Publication Jan 5, 2024
Categories: Mystery & Thrillers

My rating: 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

This book was originally published as ENVY. This new edition has been re-edited since its publication in 2011. Two girls' search to uncover the truth behind their friend's death.

The narration was good. I’ve heard others compare this book to a James Patterson young adult book. I’m personally not a Patterson fan (I know, maybe not a popular opinion), but if you like that style, you may like this.

Really enjoyed this mystery with paranormal aspects. A teenager has been found dead in her bathtub. Did she do it herself? Or did someone kill the girl on purpose? A set of twins will have to figure this one out

I have read most of Gregg Olsen's books and I really enjoy his writing. This book was a little slower to get into for me and got confusing at times. I really liked the concept of this story. I listened to the audiobook for this and thought the narrator did a wonderful job telling the story, It's a intriguing story with twins that have special abilities which was interesting for sure. I would recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for allowing me to listen to this ARC for my honest opinion.

This one was extremely dark in places starting with the 1st chapter which was hard to read but set up the atmosphere and story perfectly. Like him or loathe him Gregg Olsen is a great story teller and writer, I listened to this one on audio and sped through it.

The characters where all very likeable and I loved the small town community coming together vibes of this book. It was a great read and I am pleased I have the next book in the series also on audio. Gregg will always be an auto buy author for me.

I listened to the audio version and I didn’t love the narrator- I didn’t find much emotion or tone differences between the characters, mostly just flatly read. The storyline itself intrigued me and I was really into it but then I started to get bored by it. I powered through and really started to enjoy the supernatural elements. I’m hoping book 2 delves more into that.

A chilling tale that delves into the supernatural, the story unfolds with the mysterious death of Katelyn Berkley. The unique ability of twins Hayley and Taylor to communicate with the deceased adds a haunting layer to the narrative. The exploration of dark secrets within a small town keeps you on edge, and the suspenseful unraveling of the truth makes for an engaging read. As the twins uncover hidden motives, the sense of impending danger adds a gripping intensity to the storyline.

I really thought this book was going to be good, the synopsis sounded great. It was the exact opposite of what I thought it would be about. The story was alllll over the place. I don’t even think the author knew what was going on. There was a second storyline going that made zero sense and it was a complete waste of my time. I don’t usually like to write bad reviews but if the book just focused on the girl who was found in the tub and not all the other story lines it would have been much better. 2.5 stars rounded up. #BeneathHerSkin #NetGalley

Thank you Netgalley ,Bookouture and Gregg Olsen for the audio arc of Beneath her skin.

The story starts when Katelyn is found dead in the bath tub and the mystery starts to unfold that shook the small town, Her friends, Hayley and Taylor, who are twins have an ability to speak to the dead and soon they start to receive messages from their dead friend. Will they find out if Katelyn died of suicide? Or was someone else involved?

I really enjoyed this audiobook which was narrated by Karen Peakes. I felt she had a really interesting voice which kept me engaged. Her voice was well paced which suited the narrative.

The story itself was medium paced mystery thriller book. I really liked the supernatural element to it which ive come across in other books over the years. It adds a nice little twist and keeps the story engaging. The book was well paced and I enjoyed how the twins as well as the police uncover what really happened to Katelyn. Im looking forward to listening to the second book in the series , Dying to be her.

Hayley & Taylor have the ability to sense memories using water, objects, and several other mediums. When their friend Kaitlyn dies of an apparent suicide (freak bath tub death) they sense that she may not have killed herself and sense there’s a killer among them. They are slowly solving the mystery using their ability to see things. As they dive deeper more secrets about some residents of Port Gamble come out.
Good fast paced book, liked the paranormal touch which was not too intense also.
Thanks to Netgalley, Gregg Olsen, Bookouture Audio for audio ARC in exchange for honest review

This high quality audio is the start of a series of mysterys in a small town where two twins who are children with a hidden talent work to silve rheir friends apparent suicide.Rhe ruan twins are able to see things. The narrator does a good job of giving emotion and description to all rhe characters. This falls down on some of the conversations between characters where the writing seems out of place and not true to tge character. The descriptive narative doesnt flow into tge conversations which took ne out of the story.
This is a relatively short audio but it took a while to get going. Then the end act was a clear please liaten to the next in the series. There is throughout an underlying event of a bus crash that seems to be part of the Ryan's twins history and talent. The ends of their friends apparent suicide were tied up too neatly for me. So this may be aimed at a younger audience as a stepping stone into the mystery genre. It does briefly mention issuses such as ibtetnet bull3 grooming self harm and suicide alongside supernatural overtones. The mentions however are not developed in an adult audience way and resilved too eays.
Thank you netgallery and publisher and narrator and author for this 4 star listen. I look forward to patt 2 to see tge characters develop.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This story starts out with a mother finding her 15 yr old daughter, Katelyn unresponsive in the bathtub. The community is devastated by this horrible event and it has her closest friends trying to find out what really happened here. Taylor and Hayley are twins who went to school with Katelyn and take it upon themselves to dig a little deeper into Katelyn's death. They also have a little more insight to what really happened as they have always had a special connection with the dead....intriguing right???? Enjoy!!!!

It was clear from the beginning that this book was not worth my precious reading time: the premise is unoriginal, the characters one-dimensional and their actions and dialogue forced. However, the biggest turn-off for me was the narration. This book has what I think of as 'dead-voice' narration, which is perhaps only one step up from AI narration. I want to feel like the characters are speaking to me, not like I'm listening to the shipping forecast,

And another important note: the NetGalley Shelf app. It shouldn't shape my opinion of the book, but it's impossible to separate the audiobook and the listening experience. I had to redownload the app to listen to this book and I quickly realised why I had deleted it - it's TERRIBLE. How can I possibly listen to anything and try to give a fair opinion when the app stops after every chapter and a full shutdown is necessary to restart it. I do not have the time for that, sorry.

Thanks for this audio ARC, I wish the experience could have been better.

Beneath Her Skin is a great book, what do you expect from Gregg Olsen? I really like the twins, Hailey and Taylor. Again I didn't figure out anything til it was told. I like that Olsen used characters in this book from his other books. I use to live in the area talk about in this book. This makes me miss living there. I like Olsen's writing, fiction and nonfiction, he is an amazing storyteller.

Has some good mystery bits about the book. I liked that there was always this question of who did what. Give me more of a YA vibe to it with the characters being so young and very typical teenage attitudes.

The supernatural twin dynamic was cute and a unique storyline. I realize it is a YA book but I felt it was a immaturity written....perhaps maybe geared toward elementary children.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Beneath Her Skin begins with the sudden death of Katelyn, a 15 year old girl who committed suicide. But was it really a suicide? As the story develops we begin to question what really happened to Katelyn questioning whether it was in fact a suicide or something more sinister. We also follow the story of Hayley and Taylor, twin girls who have psychic type abilities.

I liked the idea of this story and the idea of the psychic type angle but felt it could have been more fleshed out and developed across the story. Overall it was a good read but I feel that it is definitely a younger side of YA book that follows more dramas than thriller aspects.
