Firstly, I'm a huge fan of Gregg Olsen's true crime stuff. It's always very well thought out and crafted in a way that keeps you totally enamored. The fiction stuff... not so much. I just can't stay focused with female teenage drama. I'm sure this series has its audience. It's just not for me.

The characters are pretty hollow this one was way too YA for me. DNF at like 15% definitely not a favorite of mine.

This book was really good. I liked the mystery of the twins’ abilities and the way they were connected. Only reason I give 4/5 stars is because I think it took a bit too long to get to the plot, but overall it was a good book!

Book 1 of the Port Gamble Chronicles series, Beneath Her Skin is very much a YA book.
An interesting premise and a sad story overall, I feel like there were parts that either weren’t necessary, or are building up to something else in the next book.

That being said, this is the story of twins and their interesting “abilities”, who are trying to figure out what really happened to an old friend who was found dead in her bathtub. What is an accident? Or something else.
Of what wicked webs the teenagers weave…. And sometimes even their parents. Bullying is real. But how far will it go?

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this gripping audiobook in return for my honest opinion.

I’m sorry to say there wasn’t anything I liked about this book 😔

Juvenile, superficial characters engage in mean girl behaviour (even, and maybe especially, the adults) while teen twins, Haley and Taylor, “HayTay” to their friends 🙄 try to solve a murder.

As a mother of twin girls, I was cringing at how these girls were portrayed almost like a ridiculous caricature; even the closest twins are still two different people who can think and act independently.

The victim died when her coffee machine fell into the bath - who has a coffee machine in the bathroom?

Bland and slow with endless bad dialogue, I feel that this might be enjoyed more by a young audience, I can imagine 13 year old me may have liked it more, but it’s certainly not one for the adult “mystery and thriller” category.

Sadly it’s a 1 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Gregg Olsen and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

This is the first book in a young adult crime series. I don't read those a lot, but every once and again it does beckon me and of course, I follow. ;)

I think teenagers have a more difficult and complicated life than when I was young. There are advantages too where we could not count on the internet for various things, but on the other hand we had a lot more privacy which is very important too.

So yest, as an old timer, it's interesting to get a glimpse in the lives of said teenagers and I have to conclude they seem to be forced to grow up a lot faster. Maybe because there are more threats now then before, with people being able to hide behind screens to bully.

I love the twins, but there were a few youngsters who were a lot less gentle and kind, but this goes for the adults as well. After all, they should know better, a lot better...

A sad story. I am looking forward to book 2 I am going to read straight away. 4 stars

Thank you

Gregg Olsen was one of the first authors that got me started on audio books! He keeps you thinking!
This clairvoyant mystery thriller was more than i expected. I love how investigative the girl are and cannot wait for more.
I'm starting book 2 tonight!

For as long as they can remember, twins Hayley and Taylor Ryan can hear the dead. With a true crime writer and psychiatric nurse for parents, the twins were taught to use their gift to give a voice to the innocent.

When the body of troubled teen Katelyn Berkley is found in her bathtub, the small town of Port Gamble is shaken to its core. The Berkley family had many problems and on the surface Katelyn’s death appears to be a cry for help gone wrong.

But soon the twins begin to receive messages from Katelyn. Something darker was behind her death. As the halls of Kingston High are rocked by the scandal, everyone from the most popular cheerleader to the class outcast could have reason to want her dead.

And as the twins get closer to the truth, it becomes clear that someone is watching them. Are they next on the hitlist?

I love Gregg Olsen's disturbing true crime books. In this fiction series, he does a great job of creating characters that are easy to hate.

In Book 1, Beneath Her Skin, we are introduced to Hayley & Taylor, who are twins in the local high school. One of their classmates is found dead in their bathtub and the death threatens to expose local secrets. This book was good, but not great. I wish there were better character development of the good guys in this book.

Thank you @bookouture for allowing me to listen to the audiobook versions of this republished series, in exchange for my honest reviews.
