Jemima is trying to make it in the acting world. She just can’t catch a break. So, when she has finally been selected to perform for a different type of show. She jumps at it, even though her inner voice is telling her something is wrong.

Jemima is struggling. She wants this job badly, she needs this job badly. She thinks there is no one who knows her and her past. But the longer she is working for this show and Rebecca, Jemima begins to believe her life is in danger. But why? Oh the secrets!

Now, this tale is a bit slow in places and it’s a bit choppy. But, it is entertaining and kept me listening.

This story is narrated by Josie Charles. Very good job!

Wow! That was a great and gripping read...I did not see that last twist coming at the end. And I am totally here for that! This was my 1st book by Becky Alexander but will not be my last, I am adding her books to my TBR!

Book was okay. Thought it took a while to get to the plot of the story. Okay if you’re into thrillers.

In "Someone Like You" we Jemina, the main protagonist of the story, takes us into the world of acting. She really tries hard to work as an actress and is willing to cross certain bondaries to achieve fame. She is lucky to get a role in an upcoming play alongside famous stars.
But things don't quite go to plan and this is when the story starts to get into action!
The plot developed in a way I didn't quite expect but enjoyed nethertheless! To be honest: the middle was a bit tedious to listen to and dragged along but in the end all was fine again.

We come along many unlikable characters, which gives the story a special vibe and I think this is what this business is all about.
As I mentioned before: the ending is super satisfying and left nothing open for me.

Josie Charles does a fabulous job narrating the story

Someone Like You by Becky Alexander is a psychological thriller that follows Jemima, a young actress who gets entangled in a web of deception and obsession with her enigmatic director, Rebecca Sheridan. Set in the theatre world, where nothing is as it seems, the book is full of secrets, lies, and twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The book has many strengths, such as the author’s ability to create a tense and atmospheric setting, the well-developed and complex characters, and the exploration of the themes of identity, deception, and obsession. Jemima is a relatable protagonist, who struggles with her past and her identity. Rebecca is a manipulative antagonist, who has a hidden agenda and a dark history. The book also has some weaknesses, such as the predictability and cliché of some of the plot points and twists, the reliance on coincidences and convenient events to move the story forward, and the unrealistic and exaggerated scenes and dialogues that might affect the credibility and immersion of the reader. The book also has a slow pace, especially in the first half, where the author spends too much time describing the life of an actor/actress in the theatre business. This might bore some readers who are looking for more action and suspense.

Overall, Someone Like You by Becky Alexander is a gripping and suspenseful read that showcases the author’s talent and potential. It is a well-written and well-crafted debut novel that is perfect for fans of psychological thrillers who enjoy stories that are full of secrets, lies, and twists.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. The characters were good and the narrators was really good capturing all the different characters. The summary of this book intrigued me and it sounded like it was going to be a great thriller. However, once I started reading I found it to be too much information about the life of an actor/actress in the theatre business. This theatre stuff was a little slow and boring and I started to lose interest in the story but wanted to know what was going to happen in the end so I kept pushing through. The concept was good but the whole theatre thing just kind of took away from the whole story and it wasn't as much a thriller as I was hoping for. Enjoy!!

I liked it. It's well paced and interesting.
The characters are just the right amount of unlikable.
This would be a good place to start if your'e knew to mystery/thriller books.

3.5 stars

This book was okay. It was dramatic and tense, but everything from the cover design to the blurb to the initial categorization painted it as a thriller, which it definitely was not (outside of, maybe, the last 10% or so). It was more a drama about breaking into the world of fine arts and professional acting, and while it was interesting, it wasn’t really the kind of story I was hoping for at the time.

DO NOT take the synopsis I just provided at face value, this book is not at all what it says it is. I don’t understand the comparisons to The Silent Patient, perhaps to Anatomy of a Scandal, but it just doesn’t deliver to the part of “thriller” that it is supposed to be.

Someone Like You only incorporates the truth that there is a shady producer and the main character doesn't feel safe in some situations.

Now, who this book actually could appeal to and what it is about.

We follow Jemima in her quest to get work as a graduated actress and her (barely their) friendships. We see her get in unsafe situations and a lot of the times, it felt like she got in danger solely for the author to get a point across and it didn’t feel natural when these situations happened.
A lot of the book also revolves around sex and there are sex scenes, so there’s that.

Not a book I would really recommend.

Where to begin…this book follows one MC in her first bit of time out of drama school. Theater school? We also meet her ex, her agent, a producer, a new boyfriend, and her best friend, along with a handful of supporting characters.

One thing all of these people have in common is that they’re all out to get themselves ahead. Get the next hot break. One thing that differentiates Jemima is that she comes across as a total pushover who’s waiting for life to happen to her. Is she really this clueless? Is she a good actress who’s had a tough time? Is she going to make it as an actor? Is she emotionally damaged thanks to a bad home environment as a kid? Or is she just a delusional psychopath trying to hide in plain sight?

The answer is revealed…during the last chapter of the book. I enjoyed the gossipy first 90-95% of the book as a fluffy read about an insecure actress with self-esteem issues, where a small handful of bizarre coincidences happened in her sphere of life. Not much happened, and it felt very repetitive. I definitely understand that Jemima was a) broke, b) chasing her dreams, c) had a sht agent who didn’t seem to want to rep her anymore, and d) didn’t seem to take an active role in her life. For example, she kind of just fell into a relationship with someone she didn’t even like very much because it was convenient.

I was floored that the author waited until the book was 95% finished to link anyone and anything together. And truly, the last chapter is where anything was revealed. This book could have been easily 40% shorter and had the same impact.

Overall, I thought the writing was good and held my attention (tough to do with general fiction). The characters were unlikeable (well done). But the editing needed some work to tighten up the story and close the loose ends.

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I really tried to get into this and kept shelving it and restarting. Unfortunately, this did not catch my interest in anyway. I don’t know what the miss was, but it was very slow and I could not follow at all. I’m glad it was a like for many others, just wasn’t it for me.

I listened to this audiobook at 1.5x speed like I always so. The narrator was great and I had no problems understanding her (she has a British accent) at that speed

In the sorry, a struggling actress is doing her best to make it in the world of plays. She gets lucky and lands a role in a ip and coming play. But will everything come crashing down when people start getting hurt and even killed? What will happen to her? And who is behind all these bad things that are happening?

I definitely enjoyed listening to this one and recommend it for people who like thrillers! I am thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me listen to it in exchange for my review of it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I absolutely loved this audiobook. There were a lot of what I would call surprises throughout. I enjoyed the atmosphere of it set in the theatre world in both the UK and the US.
The end narration was kind of a surprise but slightly expected. I just knew there was more to the other happenings.
Great job by the narrator. Awesome listen.

In this book, the author spins a wild tale full of dreams, drama, and dark secrets. Picture this: a struggling actress in the chaos of London, meeting the charming Greg Trelawney and influential producer Rebecca Sheridan. It feels like the big break she's been waiting for when she lands the leading role in Rebecca's play, but rehearsals quickly turn into a hot mess.

Desperate to stay in Rebecca's good graces, our heroine takes things to the extreme, and suddenly, the mysterious death of her co-star Olivia throws everything into chaos. Dreams shattered, she seeks comfort in Greg's secluded house, only to have Rebecca reappear, pulling her deeper into a twisted game.

As the relationship between Rebecca and our protagonist grows, a shocking truth unravels – Rebecca's attention comes with a deadly price tag. The story dives into a crazy mix of secrets, lies, and murderous obsession that's ready to explode. You're left hanging, wondering just how far our heroine will go to keep Rebecca's eyes on her.

Sure, the writing is good, but there's a catch. Despite the engaging drama and complex relationships, the story somehow falls short. It leaves you craving more depth, a stronger emotional connection to the characters, and a narrative that hits you right in the feels. It's like having a tasty appetizer, but you're still waiting for the main course to satisfy your literary appetite.

Someone Like You by Becky Alexander and narrated by Josie Charles was one of the best audiobooks I have listened to for a long time. It was an absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller that just had me gripped from the beginning till the very end. It was full of twists and turns throughout with dark secrets and all secrets have away of coming out, when you at least expect them. I love both of the main characters Jemima and Rebecca and they both played brilliant parts within this book which made it a book/audiobook hard to put down.

The Narrator Josie Charles was excellent and made this book come alive especially with the two main characters.

I highly recommended this audiobook/book. 5 stars from start to finish.

Big Thank you to Netgalley, Storm Publishing and Dreamscape Select for my copy......I loved this audiobook/book.

Very interesting audiobook. It was very well written and kept my attention. I loved the story line and the twist at the end was really a shock. I really enjoyed listening to this book, it ebbed and flowed so well. This is a new author for me, but is one that I will be looking out for again, for sure.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Someone Like You by Becky Alexander, an audiobook narrated by Josie Charles is more showbusiness drama as psychological thriller.
Narrator Josie Charles is absolutely perfect for this book! Her voice is so calm and fits so much with the story! I must say that I would struggle to read this book as up to the very end book is slow, and descriptive and there are not a lot of actions. I would recommend this as an audiobook as Josie managing to do an incredible job as a single narrator!
All the tension and main twists are left to the very end and no I didn't see them coming!

Jemima is an actress and looking for her first big role. Rebecca is a famous theater director and everyone wants to take part in her plays.
When Jemima gets her role in Rebecca's play she is positive this is her break-through in the theater world. She is positive that all she needs is to prove that she has talent but she doesn't realize that there is so much more happening behind closed doors! Soon Jemima learns that she can't trust anyone and that in line to succeed, she must not stop in front of anything!

I believe that if you are interested in acting or the theater world you will enjoy this book more than others!

Thank you, #NetGalley, #DreamscapeSelect, and #StormPublishing for the copy of #SomeoneLikeYou!
