First, I have to mention the narration. The audiobook of this was phenomenal. Rachel Handshaw was amazing and I will be seeking out more of her work. Her attention to detail of the various POVs was on point.
This book starts of in a scene that caused me to be confused what was happening as right after it happened, it was gone. It wasn't mentioned again / wasn't revealed until near the end of the book how it was connected. While it was an extremely clever twist, I wish there would have been more tie in with this throughout the book.
Aaron, our MMC, is a college professor who receives an unexpected promotion at the start of the school year. He ends up tangled in an affair with a new professor, Cara. His wife, Paige finds out.
Not only are these POVs shared, however we also get a few peeks into others!
While I loved the story overall, the first 1/2 of the book had me trying to keep track of many characters and details. There are so many pieces to this book; which is both frustrating and amazing.
Following an affair, Aaron finds himself facing accusations that could destroy his career. Who is telling the truth and how long will Aaron be the prime suspect in his lover’s disappearance?
This was a page turner in the beginning, but slowed down at the half way point. It seemed like there were too many ideas thrown into one book. While it was a good read, some of it was difficult to follow.
I listened to this one as an audiobook and the narrator was fantastic!

*ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I adored this book from start to finish. As soon as there was a body in the chest freezer in an old storage locker, I was ready to put all the pieces together. This was a well thought out and planned book, with multiple mysteries to figure out. There were so many twists and turns, and not the red herring type. It just turned out that there was a lot more going on than a missing woman.
The last twist to the story I did not see coming at all. Angela Henry writes in such a smart way, and Rachel Handshaw reads everything clearly and builds the drama with her tone. You can tell who is telling the story easily with each chapter, and I will certainly add Henry to my list of authors to look out for from this point.
This was my first Angela Henry book and truly loved every bit of it. Interesting plot (sometimes felt unrealistic) with bits of added suspense. The first half of the book was a tad slow but thankfully thing quickly picked up. I often forgot who was who and got lost with the past/present timelines. Definitely had to re-listen to fully grasp what was presented. Overall, this thriller kept me hooked and wondering until the very end.
The narrator was decent. However, an additional narrator would have really made assisted with the amount of characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the gifted ARC (audiobook)…as all opinions are my own.
While I liked the story I was not a fan of the narration as I found it extremely difficult to follow along with the difference between characters.
The perfect affair starts off as any book with a cheating husband does. A younger woman at work starts giving Aaron special attention and flattering him, making his wife seem like an old bore who doesn’t love him enough. I thought I knew which direction this book was headed in, when out of no where the affair is stopped. I was wondering, which direction will the book go in now? The affair has barely even started. This book goes in every direction! There is so much going on with every single character, you’ll get whiplash trying to figure it all out. I didn’t guess a single thing about this book. It was surprise after surprise. You’ll never know what’s coming next. An amazing page turner with some killer twists.
A few twists and turns. Some things that surprised me, some that I figured out ahead of time. It was a decent book, entertaining.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeSelect for the book #ThePerfectAffair by #AngelaHenry. It was the perfect mixture of drama, finger pointing and a pretty big twist ending. Fist time author and I am interested in reading more of her work.
I enjoyed that this book included many unpredictable twists and turns alongside well-developed characters. I felt like I had a good understanding of the the main characters and their motivations. I binged this in one day because every guess I made was incorrect and I desperately needed to find out the conclusion.
The biggest issues for me were that the book was written with multiple points of view, a few too many characters, and multiple timelines. There were also several storylines and at times the amount of information given felt overwhelming. Once I hit the second half I felt like I needed to take notes or create a diagram. Creating this story with fewer characters or using this thrilling premise as a series, would've made the story much simpler to consume.
Additionally, in having just one narrarator it became challenging to distinguish which viewpoint I was listening to. Having this book read by a few narrarators would've made a significant difference in the listening experience.
I would still recommend this book to those who enjoy mystery/thriller books, however I would recommend picking up a physical copy instead of audio, to make following the storylines a bit easier.
Brilliant thriller 👌 full of twists, mystery, and suspense. Every chapter brought new secret. Gripping and intense read. I was on the edge throughout. Pace is fast, with a shocking end. Although every character was morally gray, I couldn’t stop reading. Every one has their own agenda. The affair gone wrong in a devastating way. The perfect affair is highly recommended. I will love to read more by the author. Narrator did a great job with each and every character. I have this one on both audio and eArc. I loved both. Thanks a lot to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the same.
I liked this book a lot when I first started reading it and thought it would be a 5 star book. The ending fell short for me because by the time I reached the end, there were too many characters to keep track of, and there was a character that I think was supposed to be a sympathetic character that I did not like at all. There are medical themes that I found interesting (Munchausen by proxy). I liked the narrator, but think that this book in particular could benefit from having multiple narrators, I feel as though it would help to keep track of things because this book is told from multiple points of view.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for an advanced audio copy of this book.
WOOOOOWW! A man has an affair and things get dicey. When will people remember Fatal Attraction? Bad things start to happen. Who’s behind it all?
There were so many twists and turns in this book. You’d think one thing only to have the rug ripped out from under your feet.
The Perfect Affair was my first Angela Henry book and definitely will not be my last. I truly enjoyed this thriller. I enjoyed the different POV and the flashbacks. A couple times I thought I had it all figured out, but I definitely did not. There was a stretch in the middle that became a little far-fetched for me, but she pulled it all together really well! Already excited for my next Angela Henry book!

Thank you to Dreamscape Select for offering me the opportunity to listen to this twisted book by Angela Henry. I was immediately attracted to the plot upon the opening scene of a woman finding a body in a freezer in a storage unit. What I didn't expect was how the author turned a sleepy story about a college professor and his stressed out wife. The couple had grown apart with all the ways life can do with work-life stress, two twin children, two careers, it was no wonder the "affair" started. It was exciting and quick, but unfortunately about 3/4 through the book they just kept adding people and situations which made the story hard to follow.

The Perfect Affair was GOOD! Just in typical psychological/domestic thriller fashion - this one starts with the finding of a body and just from the nature of the finding and the circumstances I was hooked!! The story of the affair was similar to most of the affair stories, that is until the mistress goes missing. This one is told in a dual timeline of the before and after the mistress goes missing. It’s also told in multiple POVs, allowing you to gain inside to all of the different characters.

The Perfect Affair is mostly a fast paced story but lost a bit of momentum in the middle of this book but picked back up in the end. This one requires alot of attention because there are so many sub stories within this one; because of that I actually ended up a bit confused as to who was who and which story went with who towards the end. The ending was like a whirlwind of information as revelation after revelation and twist after twist were thrown at you. I really liked how the story ended. Also side note, Henry had me cackling at the mention of the main character Aaron being called “A-Aron” from the key and peele skit that went viral years ago.

I listened to this one via audiobook and Rachel Handshaw was the sole narrator for multiple people. While I think she did a great job, I was not the biggest fan of her narration for Aaron. I really think this one would be better off with a full cast of narrators to really differentiate each character and their respected sub stories better. Overall the audio is still worth listening to.

The Perfect Affair is releasing today 1/15 and I am definitely recommending this one to my psychological/domestic thriller fans! I am definitely going to be looking into more of Angela Henry’s work. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Angela Henry Dreamscape Select and Storm Publishing for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
This book was a lot. Both good and bad. The good - this had some very unexpected twists, was fairly fast paced and kept my interest. The bad - the story jumped around a lot between current and past amongst several characters and it took a minute to comprehend, slightly hard to follow at times. Overall, I did really enjoy this book and finished in less than a day. I would recommend!
We have hear this story before: a man and woman are married. Man has affair. Mistress goes missing...who did it?
This plot always draws be in so I was glad to receive a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. The narrator is excellent.
As we open the book, a women that buys storage units to sell the items uncovers something. We have no idea what. I completely forgot about this but it comes back randomly at the end of the book.
We then meet the main players. Paige and Aaron Nichols are married with young twins. Paige is a nurse and Aaron is Department Chair at a local university. They appear to have a happy marriage but Paige notices Aaron pulling away and not being where he should be. When he fails to invite her to a work event, she shows up and sees him with another woman--Cara Morton. She is instantly on edge because she suspects they are having an affair. She is correct and she and Aaron separate. Aaron continues on with Cara until he finds out she is not who he thought he was. Paige takes him back and then Cara proceeds to stalk and wreak havoc on the Nichols family. Then Cara disappears. All of this is expected, but then the story starts to go on MULTIPLE tangents with secrets, upon secrets, upon plot twists, and introducing new characters 80% of the way through the book. Surprisingly little time is spent on the actual investigation into Cara's disappearance.
The narrators are Aaron, Paige, Cara (in the past), and a few chapters from the detective's perspective. I get what the author was trying to do in laying the groundwork in the past and trying to create complexity for all of the characters, but it was A LOT to keep straight. There were characters that seemed peripheral, but then we were given back story and significance and it was hard to follow. The ultimate conclusion was roundabout and convoluted because it relates to one of the tangential stories so it wasn't totally believable or satisfying to me. The epilogue was just too much (literally another plot twist in the epilogue after about 20 different unnecessary twists).
Overall, I would rate this 3 stars. It was a quick read and the plot kept moving (a lot) so it kept me intrigued, however, it was too convoluted to keep who did what, who knows who, who is pretending to be who, who used to know who, etc. etc. and then relate that to the ultimate conclusion.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was the first book that I have read/listened to by Angela Henry. Great story with twists without and a great ending. The narration was perfect, each character was easily recognizable. Enjoyed the ins and outs of the marriage and relationships. Many thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity!
Paige Nichols is aware her husband is having an affair.... but she doesn't realize just how dangerous the other woman can be, or how big a can of worms she's about to open.
I really enjoyed listening to this book! For the first half of the book, my favorite thing about this book was that there is a lot going on. It jumps right into the meat of the story and holds your attention as it all unfolds. I was pretty immediately reminded of 'The Perfect Ruin' by Shanora Wiliams. This book has a very similar feel and I absolutely loved it.
Unfortunately for the second half of the book, my least favorite thing was that there was a lot going on. The back half of the book took off and i was enjoying it, but it also seemed to try to do way too much. There were a ton of characters and a lot of misdirection, which is good, but crossed the line into confusing several times.
Overall I really enjoyed this one, I just think there were probably parts of the story that could have been simplified to avoid some confusion. Still, highly, highly recommended for fans of Shanora Williams or black mail and revenge stories.
Good story. Didn’t seen the killer coming. I do feel like there was just too many people apart of the story. Got to be kind of distracting
This one started out great! A professor having an affair then finding out more about the woman and breaking it off immediately. Weird things happen and eventually, she goes missing. It was a dual timeline with different POV which I do like. We get before the disappearance, after the disappearance, and during one of the character's childhood.
However, I felt so confused by the end. There are SO many stories in this one and SO many characters that I couldn't keep track of. Throw in some of the twists and it added to the confusion. Less is more and for this one, I think a lot could have just been taken out because it just added more confusion.
