This is a okay thriller/mystery, but I wouldn’t characterize it as “pulse pounding” or fast paced. The characters are impossible to become invested in. The teenage daughter is hateable and the husband makes ridiculous decisions. They have no other family or friends to support them, which actually makes sense considering how awful they are. Most of the plot devices were delivered with a heavy hand and I predicted the ending after the tenth reference to one of the bigger clues. This book should have been told in multiple perspectives, with the second half being told in the past from the wife’s perspective. The book would have garnered more reader investment in the characters.

Another good one from Steve Frech!! I was instantly hooked on this one & couldn’t wait to find out what happened. I did guess some of the twists but overall I still really enjoyed the story and how everything played out.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the proposal at the end. I think I would’ve liked it better if there was an epilogue that took place a few years later, like after Tatum graduated college, and he asked then.

Amazing book! It had everything you are looking for when it comes to suspense. Steve was able to take the reader on a journey of a man with a simple life but flip it upside down. I wish this book became a movie.

This is my first book from this author, but it won't be the last! His latest grabbed me from the start, and it didn't let up. "The Good Husband" is a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat story full of unexpected twists. Characters are realistic and likeable. There's bit of something for everyone with bad cops, shootouts, mysterious clues, which all combine for a wild ride. I hated to put this book aside!

Amy Burcham is away on a business trip, she is a hedge fund manager. She told her husband Mark she would be back on Sunday, but the plane landed an hour ago with no Amy ,he phones her boss, but he says that she never turned up for the team meeting. Where is Amy?
Mark is determined to find his wife, but he is being hampered in his investigations by the Police, who seem to be uninterested, and the FBI seem to be following a different and more sinister agenda.
This is a tantalising murder mystery, with a lovely twisty reveal at the end. Fair takes your breath away, but surely a husband would recognise his wife in all circumstances? Who do you trust? You feel frustrated for Mark as he puts himself and their daughter, Tatum in danger in his quest for the truth. At times, I felt as bewildered as Mark, even though some events did cause me to disbelieve some aspects of the story.
This novel keeps you guessing. It is fast paced and very well written. I do love a satisfying conclusion.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers HQ for my advance digital copy, freely given in return for my honest review. A four star read.
I will leave a review to Goodreads and Amazon UK upon publication day.

Mark goes to pick his wife Amy up from the airport after a weekend business trip but she’s not at the airport and she’s not answering her phone, and now her work is staying there was no business trip. The next day he is staring down her body in the morgue, they are saying she was found in an alley, that she’s having an affair, and she died of a drug overdose, but Mark knows Amy, he knows this isn’t true, and he will stop at nothing to find out the truth.

Very action movie-esque for those who enjoy these style of books. Complex web of lies and cover up involved in this story and a determined house husband who becomes hardened in the process. It is a fun ride and an easy read, as I find with Frechs work.

I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for an advance copy of The Good Husband, a stand-alone thriller set in Los Angeles.

When Mark Burcham’s wife, Amy, doesn’t return from a business trip to Boston he is worried. When the police say she has been found dead in a back alley in Los Angeles he doesn’t believe the circumstances. They say natural death, he says murder and decides to investigate Amy’s last few months and her secrets. Someone doesn’t want him to and is prepared to harm his daughter to stop him.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Good Husband, which is a light, very readable novel with some amazing twists. It asks the reader to believe some pretty unbelievable events, but by then I was so caught up in the plot I simply went with the flow, accepted whatever I was asked to believe and was highly entertained. It also helps that the novel is not particularly long, so there is no wastage or excess verbiage.

The novel is told entirely from Mark’s point of view, which allows for an immersive read and gives the twists greater impact when they arrive, being as much as a surprise to him as the reader. He is a typically modern man, determined to protect his family at any cost and, boy, does he do that. In a twist on the stereotype his wife makes the big bucks as a hedge fund saleswoman while he’s a stay at home dad. I must admit that I questioned how he spent his time as his daughter is seventeen, but it’s not relevant to the plot so it doesn’t get a mention.

The plot sees Mark follow some obscure clues that Amy gave him and gradually get up to speed on what she was doing. This involves a few hair raising moments and gunfire is included. It is tense at times and sad at others, but mostly it is exciting as he makes more discoveries and gets into tricky situations. This sets the novel up nicely for a spectacular finale with some great twists, a bit of hard negotiation and a lot of reader satisfaction.

The Good Husband is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

The Good Husband by Steve Frech was a terrific suspense novel! It’s one of those classic thrillers that keeps you up at night and leaves you guessing. You just can’t trust anyone here. Its a twisty novel you can easily read in one sitting, it just keeps flowing!

Wow! This book had me hooked and my heart racing!

Told by the POV of Mark, when his wife Amy is found dead from a drug overdose and her sister admits Amy was having an affair, Mark knows something else is at play. He knows Amy wouldn’t cheat on him and she would never touch drugs. So what is the truth of what happened?

The police don’t believe Amy’s death was suspicious and so Mark is investigating on his own, until his teenaged daughter is threatened.

The character’s in this story were totally relatable and I was fully invested in Mark’s determination to find out the truth. The plot was fast-paced and well written and then THAT TWIST! OMG!

Absolutely brilliant!

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Steve Frech and HQ for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley for my ARC

I've heard this described as "twisty" and "un-put-downable". I agree completely. It hooked my attention on page one, and I finished in one sitting.

The characters were all fleshed out. I was easily invested in their stories. The plot was fast and tight. It was a ride from beginning to end.

I would definitely read more from this author in the future

The Good Husband by Steve Frech is an absolute wild ride of a thriller. Once you think you have it all figured it out, Steve throws in another twist that you did not see coming. I could not put this book down and had to know how it all ended.

I have enjoyed his previous novels but this one was a bit far fetched in places. I guessed a big twist so that took the score down a point. Still a good storyline. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it

I wish to thank NetGalley and the novel’s publishers for the free ARC of The Good Husband as it allowed me to discover the fiction of a Los-Angeles-writer that I had not previously come across. The novel starts with an almighty hook: All of a sudden, the comfortable home life that stay-at-home dad Mark (the ‘good husband’ of the book title) has been providing for years for his hedge fund manager wife Amy and their teenage daughter Tatum, is shattered: his wife is found dead, apparently victim to a drugs overdose. This is the start of a rollercoaster involving an intense FBI investigation, stories of distrust and betrayal, and other events that will put Mark and his daughter in grave danger …. Fast-paced and twisty, this is a domestic thriller not for the faint-hearted.

What a great book! It has you wanting more from the 1st chapter! So many questions, even more twist. Once I started the 1st chapter, I had to keep going, I had to know more. The ending was perfect. Really enjoyed unfolding this story.

This book took me on a rollercoaster of a ride!
At first you think this is a pretty straightforward mystery. Mark's wife has been found dead and the police are saying there is no foul play involved.
This is where things begin to go off course. He knows his wife, and some things aren't adding up. So he begins digging and going through the last moments with his wife trying to figure out what was happening in her life and the secrets she was keeping. He doesn't anticipate the danger he's courting or that what he's doing is also putting his teenage daughter at risk. But it's too late now, in the middle of it, and there's no stopping until he uncovers the truth.

I was hooked from the first page and flew through it. I just had to know how it was all going to play out. And while I had a few niggles about things that happened there are plenty of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I was invested in the characters and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat!
