While this isn't anything new, this book is written very well and engages you and holds on.
Suspense filled and I couldn't wait to find out the end.
Pedestrian take of man trying to find missing wife and things are afoot
Bit intriguing at begining but then quite straightforward and nothing new
Sorry
Ty though netgalley and publishers for advanced copy to read
I couldn't read this book fast enough, a brilliant fast paced thriller which kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning until the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
This book had me hooked from the first page. It was definitely an easy read with a linear storyline which I appreciate. There were many twists throughout and he kept you guessing until the very end.
It's written in first person through Mark's POV and you can tell from the beginning how much he loves his family.... but how well did he really know his wife? And Why isn't everything she has told him lining up?
I guarantee you that you will read this book in one sitting!
The only thing I would point out is that there are some spelling errors that the editors should've caught. But otherwise... highly recommend!!!
This story is told first person Mark. This is my first read by this author. I found it to be a fast-paced thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. As I read along, I couldn’t help but think that it was going to end up being a standard whistleblower story and that I would probably be disappointed in the end, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. “What was this woman up to?” is what I kept thinking as the husband uncovered secrets and lies at every turn.
I really enjoyed this family, the characters of Mark and his daughter and the story that he tells of his love with his wife Amy. I was rooting for him along the way, trying to figure out Amy’s actions and motivations that might prove him right in the faith and loyalty he had with her. I was also a bit distracted by Mark and his obliviousness at times and missed a few things myself. Loved the twist and I should have seen it coming but I didn’t.
Recommended for a quick, unputdownable thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for a copy provided for an honest review.
How far would you go to protect your family? Your wife has gone on a business trip and fails to return home. There is also no record of your wife actually having gone on that business trip yet you were the one to drop her off at the airport. Her employers confirm that she did not have a business trip. Then you get the worst call of all, your wife has been found dead 😲. Nothing makes sense to Mark 🤷♀️. Him and Amy had a great marriage, yet it’s obvious that she was lying to him and keeping secrets. As Mark begins to dig into his wife’s secret life, it becomes apparent that someone is watching him and is determined to keep him from the truth.

Mark is very happy with his family- wife Amy and 17yo daughter Tatum. Amy disappears on a work trip to Boston, but her boss says that he has no record of the trip, and that Amy had told him she was taking time off to be with Mark and Tatum. Mark soon finds out Amy has been found dead.
Mark is determined to figure out what happened to Amy…
The book is engaging from the beginning, fast paced, hard to put down. An enjoyable treat! I am now interested in Steve French’s other books!
Thank you to author, publisher, NetGalley for advanced audio copy. This is an honest voluntary review.
Mark and Amy are living a quiet suburban life with their teenage daughter, Tatum, when all of the sudden, everything Mark knows is gone. He dropped his wife off at LAX for her business flight to Boston, as he had been doing for a few months. A few days later, Amy’s body is found - not in Boston, but right there in Los Angeles. The police say she overdosed, but Mark knows his wife - she would never do drugs. Is it possible the police are lying to him? He’s not going to give up on finding out…
I haven’t seen many reviews for this book yet, but the ones I’ve seen were overwhelmingly positive. This is definitely a page-turner with some action, some suspense, some surprises and quite a few twists. Normally, that would mean a 4-5 star rating from me, but we have a couple of problems…
I don’t mind a bit of exaggeration or a dash of two of improbable things in a thriller book; usually it’s to be expected. This, however, may win the prize of THE MOST implausible book I’ve ever read. I’d love to make a separate review for all of the technically unimaginable and far-fetched things in this book, as there were so many - enough that I was eventually laughing. The writing also made things relatively easy to figure out, though the big twist was a complete surprise!
This is one you can read in one sitting, and most popcorn thriller fans will enjoy it. It’s not a bad story, but it was just too far off the edge of reality for me. By the end, all I could think was that there was no way any of this would have ever happened the way it did. For being so unbelievable, it gets 3.5 stars from me.
(Thank you to HQ, Steve Frech and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on February 27, 2024.)
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
What a shocking, engaging thriller of a mystery and domestic suspense. I was blown away!
Steve French is an amazingly imaginative writer, and this book is a blockbuster of a breakneck pace of a thriller!
You can read the jacket for book description, if psychological suspense interests you, I promise that you you will NOT be disappointed by this book, I finished reading at 3 AM on a work day.

When Amy goes missing and is later found dead her husbands world falls apart- he has no idea why she was not where she said she would be and the more questions he asks the more danger he gets himself into.
Mark is a strong lead character and the supporting cast are spot on from the teenage dirt bag boyfriend to the creepy watcher. The twist is perhaps guessable but that does not spoil the flow of the book or the culmination of the story at all.
A great read.
This book hooked me from the very first page and just kept me engaged until the shocking ending. Loved all
the characters and the storyline. Looking forward to more books by Steve Frech. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published February 2024.
Mark Burcham knows his wife Amy. At least he thinks he does. So when she doesn’t return from a business trip to Boston, and within hours her lingerie clad body is discovered in an alley, dead of an overdose, he is sure she was murdered. Unfortunately, the police do not agree with him. They don’t believe him when he tells them he’s being followed or when he blames a household accident on a mysterious intruder. He’s on his own and he needs to protect himself and his teenage daughter. Protect her from what exactly?
And then comes the wild ride that is The Good Husband. Mark, Amy, Tatum, Liz and Aiden leap out of the pages. You don’t have a chance to think if all the action could really happen, you just hang on tightly as this twisty plot gets more and more complicated. And just when you think you have it figured out, the final surprise will leave you breathless. I couldn’t read fast enough! 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, HQ digital and Steve Frech for this ARC.
Very fast pace action book. And as long as you have a good imagination it's well worth your time.
Thanks NetGalley for advance copy.
Thank you to Net Galley and Harper Collins Publishing for this advanced copy of The Good Husband by Steve Frech to be published February 27, 2024.
One night Amy Burcham doesn’t come home from a business trip to Boston. When her husband, Mark, tries to find out information, he discovers there is no record of her being there.
When Amy is found dead in the city of Los Angeles where they live, Mark is even more puzzled since the last time he saw Amy was when he dropped her off at the airport for her trip to Boston.
As Mark delves deeper into Amy’s secret life and people are now threatening his daughter, Tatum, Mark realizes neither one of them may be safe.
The police say one thing about Amy’s death, but Mark knows they are either lying or covering up the truth. There’s no way Amy could have died the way they said, and Mark is out to uncover the truth one way or another.
As he sets off on his own to solve the mystery, he uncovers more than he wanted to know as he races against time to find out exactly what happened to Amy.
Oh My Gosh! What a wild ride! I couldn’t read this book fast enough – and the ending – chef’s kiss!
This book will keep you turning pages as fast as you can read – it is one you will want to put on your TBR list. Five stars for The Good Husband!

Amy and Steve have the perfect marriage and have built a beautiful life together with their daughter Tatum. Amy has climbed to the top of her field in finance. When Mark shows up at the airport to pick her up from a business trip to Boston, Amy never exits the plane. He calls her phone. No answer. He texts her, no response. The next morning he calls her boss and asks about her trip to Boston. He learns there was no trip to Boston. Mark cannot figure out what is going on. He’s contacted in the middle of the night by the police. Amy is not coming home. Even when the sheet is pulled back at the medical examiner’s office and he comes face to face with her body, a voice inside will not let him believe what’s in front of him. None of it makes sense. What happened to Amy?
I absolutely loved this book. I have read every book Steve Frech has written. They just keep getting better and better. I loved being dropped straight into what Mark was experiencing and taking this journey with him from page one. The character development was superb, the twists and the action make this book a nonstop thrill ride start to finish. I could not wait to read this and it definitely did not disappoint. Highly recommend this one. You won’t be able to put it down!
I haven’t read anything by Steve Frech before, but I will definitely be reading more of his books after this! With very little intro, we’re thrown immediately into Mark and Amy’s world, where we read that his wife is being dropped off at the airport for a business trip. Later, he finds that his wife is missing, and his world implodes. Nothing about this makes sense - how could his wife disappear? This book was a whirlwind in all the right ways -action-packed and full of twists and turns. My heart was pounding reading this, and I couldn’t put it down. The characters were so well done. The settings, the plot, the pacing - it all added up so well. I seriously recommend this!
Special thank you to NetGalley and HQ/HQ Digital for this read!!
5 stars. The Good Husband by Steve Frech is an outstanding book. I haven't read anything by this author before, but now will. You are pulled right into the action as soon as the book begins. This is no slow burn. Mark, Amy, and their daughter Tatum are a happy family. Amy works at a hedge fund and Mark is a stay at home dad. Amy is off on another business trip. She is quiet on the way to the airport, but Mark assumes she is stressed out and tired of traveling. When Mark returns a few days later to the airport, Amy doesn't get off the plane. She is missing. And that starts the story of where is Amy.
This book is written so well, you can feel the pain of the characters. All of them are likable and so well done. I tore through this book as I needed to see what happened. There is twist after twist, layer upon layer of surprises.
Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I highly recommend this book.
