When Mark drops Amy off at the airport for a business trip, she seems quieter than her normal enthusiastic self. Mark is sure it is stress. They part with their usual "It was always you,"
Mark thinks about their good-bye and senses of finality in her words.
When Amy fails to return home from this trip; Mark finds out that Amy's boss Malcolm Davis has no record of the client she was supposed to meet; in fact, Amy told Malcolm that she was taking some time off to spend more time with her husband and daughter,
Hmmmm Now! Amy is dead.
I am a big psychological thriller fan and expect the unexpected.
This did NOT disappoint.
Definitely action packed!

This was my first Steve Frech book and will not be my last. I was hooked from the start and finished this book in 1 day. I couldn't read it fast enough. It was a whirlwind with plenty of suspense, secrets and betrayal. There was strong character development and a fast moving plot.
Thank you NetGalley and HQ for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my goodness – what a nail biter! This thriller sucked me in very early on and didn’t let up until the bombshell ending. I’ve read other novels by this author and he’s earned a spot on my must-read list. The happily married couple with a teenage daughter were so realistic it felt as if I knew them all. Mark is a stay at home Dad while Amy is a very successful, committed client recruiter for a hedge fund. They live in Los Angeles and the only conflict has been their daughter’s boundaries with the boyfriend. Just as everything seems to good to be real their happily ever after ends. Far from being over, Mark’s nightmare is only beginning. The plot covers every range of emotion you can feel, from devastating loss and grief, adulterous betrayal, to dark secrets and cover-ups. The plot is original and well paced. You won’t know who to trust or what to believe. The police detective, even the FBI, the very agencies you expect to give you answers, will they help you understand why Amy died? A must read thriller that will keep you guessing start to finish. I received an advance reader copy of “The Good Husband” by Steve Frech, publisher HarperCollins, expected publication 02/27/2024, from NetGalley. These are all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily without compensation.
Excellent, fast read
Mark thinks he has a good marriage. His wife, Amy, works for a hedge fund company recruiting new investors. Mark stays home and is raising their teenaged daughter, Tatum. Amy has been traveling from their LA home to Boston for months trying to land a new client. One weekend after Mark brought Amy to the airport to catch her Boston flight he got a call saying that she was found dead on skid row in LA. She was wearing only lingerie, had recently had sex, and died of a drug overdose.
This naturally rocks Mark's world. Amy had been acting a little different for the past two years and had had a falling out with her twin sister around that time that caused estrangement. Mark doesn't know how much of his life with Amy has been a lie, but somehow can't believe the thought of an affair or of Amy taking drugs.
And there is a black SUV that seems to regularly be outside of his house and following him around.
This caught me from the start and I didn't want to stop reading until the (satisfactory) conclusion. I liked it enough that I immediately ordered more books from this author. I highly recommend it.
I chose this book for my own enjoyment having been intrigued by the book description. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was so hooked that I read it in a day! I needed answers to the mystery and was blown away by the final twist in the tale. I would highly recommend it to others.
Another fast paced book from Steve Frech.
As I have come to expect from this author, the book was well written and kept you guessing the whole way through. What really did happen to his wife? Is he safe? And what of his family?
Get settled for an adventure as this story unravels, leaving you no option but to read ‘just one more chapter’ as you won’t be able to put it down!
This book was my first by this author and better than i expected. The first part was very strong and engaging, the characters likeable and it was easy to read. The action part was less interesting to me, but that is how i feel aot action, nothing bad about the book and the ethical issues make it more meaningful. I will be checking out his other books 4.5
What a ride this story was. I could not put the kindle down until I had finished .
I sympathised with Mark who was always trying to be the good father and worried about the relationship his daughter was forming with Aiden. The characters were so believable and the descriptions of their emotions were so well written.
The story starts with a bang and ends with one as well.
Thanks to netgalley for providing this advanced copy for the purpose of review.
This was a fast paced thriller. I found it to be a gripping read and found myself whizzing through the pages.
I was invited to read this title, and I’m extremely grateful! Steve French is a new author to me, and I’m most impressed! This was an explosive thriller that I got into from the first page. Mark is anxiously waiting for wife Amy, where is she?
I loved that while the writing was simplistic (no criticism!) it was also edgy and fast paced. I will definitely read more!
A gripping thriller. Great characters, a fast-moving plot and superb writing make this a great read. Steve French’s books always drive you to finish them to find out whodunnit but at the same time you don’t want to finish them because you’re enjoying the story. A great read.
𝑴𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑫𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓. 𝑰 𝒑𝒖𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒓.
This book was so good, I could forgive the author for it not being the next installment of the Meredith Somerset series!
With almost zero exposition, the reader is thrown into Mark and Amy's world where he is a stay-at-home dad to teen daughter Tatum and she is a brilliant part of the fast-paced financial world. When Mark drops Amy off t the airport for yet another business trip, he notices that she seems a little quieter, but he chalks that up to stress; after all, these trips have become more and more frequent. They part with their signature phrase, "It was always you," and all is well until Amy is late returning. Mark's world implodes when he finds out Amy's firm has no record of the client she was supposedly visiting, and then the worst news of all...Amy has been found, still in town, but dead.
Nothing about Amy's death makes sense, and the more Mark searches for answers, the more he is shut down. Amy has been keeping some deadly secrets, and while Mark works to uncover the truth, some powerful people are making sure that he or Tatum never finds out what Amy has been up to.
A dizzying whirlwind with layer after layer of secrecy that I just couldn't read quickly enough! You will care about this family, you will feel the betrayal, and you will be completely engaged in this precarious house of cards. Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ/HQ Digital for the early copy. This book will publish February 27, 2024.
What a brilliant book! The writing was superb, the plot was brilliant with twists and turns galore, and it’s one of those that grips you right from the start and refuses to let go. A great read and one I thoroughly recommend to all crime lovers. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc.

I felt gripped by this book immediately, it had me wanting to keep reading until I knew the truth, the twists and turns made it more exciting!
Wow! Layer upon layer upon layer! This had me hooked from the start. The characters were well written and real their actions made sense and they weren't just making stupid decisions so further plot points could happen. The plot moves forward constantly and there were so many twists. I absolutely loved every second
