I found it to be a slow starter and it took me a while to invest into the characters and the plot. It soon picked up and flowed at a steady pace, until the big reveal where it switched up another notch or six.

When truth and lies are the basis for the plot, you just know that you're going to be in for a wild ride and there's going to be plenty of drama and suspense.

The characters and their relationships felt real. The story is narrated by the three main female characters - Monica, Rachel and Chloe - was there a Chloe in Friends?

Her Daughter is an enjoyable, and engaging drama, that I would be happy to recommend.

This was honesty not a bad book at all. I liked the characters and i’m sure for some they could even be realistic and relatable. However this was a DNF for me just due to it not really being able to hold my interest I would still think it deserves a good rating because someone else may enjoy the story and i did feel like the authors writing style and changing povs was something i did enjoy.

thank you to netgalley and bookouture for the arc copy

First, I want to thank Jen Craven, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

OMG!! WOW!!! Readers who are in a reading slump you must pick up Jen Craven’s Her Daughter!! Constantly I’m asked for book suggestions that have creative storylines, fast paced, and totally twisted that you never could have seen the climatic ending! This my friends is the book you need to rush out and get, clear your schedule and dive right in. This is a must read!!! It deserves way more than 5 stars!! It is an amazing read.

Jen put a huge smile on my face as Pittsburgh, PA was the setting of this book. My sister and her family live there and love visiting there! Many of the sites and geographical landmarks she mentioned in the book I have seen, driven by, or visited! Many times I chuckled at some of the comments that were thrown in there.

Chloe’s character and her storyline will be one that will stick with me for a long time. I loved reading about her ups and downs as she navigated through her teenage years. However, never in a million years did I ever see that incredible jaw dropping climax come about! It was just earth shattering!!

Jen did an incredible job sharing what crazy busy lives mothers have juggling kids, work schedules, married life and their friendships.

There are some taboo topics in this book but if you put a trigger label on it you would ruin the story! That being said, this would be a perfect book to add to your book club. Infact, there are some perfect discussion questions in the back of the book to consider using.

I just finished Her Daughter by Jen Craven for my @bookouture book tour and here are my thoughts.

Rachel and Monica have been best friends since college. They are fully in each other's lives and their families are close. Rachel’s eldest daughter Chloe has been depressed since her boyfriend broke up with her. It’s not the only thing she is hiding and when she goes to her moms best friend instead of her, she knows she is going to break her moms heart but being pregnant isn’t something she wants to face yet.

Rachel has her own problems. Her husband has political aspirations and there are whispers he is misappropriating campaign funds and then sexual assault allegations follow, which has Monica’s husband quitting the campaign and that’s enough to make anyones head spin but there is something more going on and it could blow both families clean apart.

I enjoy women’s fiction for the most part. I like women's fiction when they have twists in them too. This one had that. It was really well written and the pace was actually decent which I appreciated. The book covers some difficult topics including teen pregnancy, sexual assault, divorce.
We get the story from 3 POV, Monica’s, Rachel’s and Chloe’s. I don’t usually enjoy so many POV but this worked well. It covered the story well enough that I don’t think anything was missed.
I loved the family drama and watching the two different families trying to navigate their problems. I love how it shows that every family has its problems and they aren’t always the same. It was definitely a solid read. Entertaining and it has a pretty decent twist to it too.

4 stars

Her Daughter is an emotional rollercoaster of a story. It tells the story of two close knit families whose friendship is put to the test. There were plenty of twists and turns throughout and I really enjoyed it.

If you enjoy reading books that explore family dynamics, long-term friendships, and secrets, then this book is perfect for you. It is a suspenseful read that keeps you engaged and makes you consider what you would do in the same situation. The conclusion is masterfully executed, adding to the shock factor.

The writing style of this book is easy to follow, engaging and entertaining. All the characters are realistic and relatable to many people.

Overall, I highly recommend this book, and it has left me eager to read more by this author in the future.

This is the second book I have read from this author and boy, I am beginning to think that this book is better than her debut book!

Rachel and Monica are close college friends and had been friends for nearly a lifetime. Rachel's daughter, Chloe is a freshman at the university but Chloe seems to be more closer to Monica than her own mother Rachel, with whom she seemed to be having a strained relationship. When Chloe becomes pregnant, the first person that Chloe tells is Monica. Chloe pleads Monica to not tell her mother Rachel and Monica is torn between the need to her friend as well as keeping Chloe's secret. But soon, Monica discovers secrets about Chloe as well as about Rachel.

Even though the plot was slightly predictable, this was actually fast paced and a page turner. The POVs are shifted between Rachel and Monica and Chloe and so as a reader you get to know each of these characters, but at the same time, you discover that these characters are unreliable as well, which actually makes the whole psychological thriller interesting. The ending is where it got me--in my opinion, I didn't really expect that kind of ending and the twist towards the end. The writing overall was great and the reader felt like they are also a part of the story. Nevertheless, this book is more a women's fiction than a thriller as it talks about the life of three courageous women who safeguard and harbors their own secrets--worth 4.5 stars.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. Thank you Bookouture for making me a part of the blog tour. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it.i went into this book thinking it was a psychological thriller and it was not. This book just fell flat for me. Chloe is 19 years old and in college when she finds out that she is pregnant. Her mom acts like she is 15 and pregnant and oh no your life is ruined. The "f" bomb was too much for me and there was a small twist which was easy to figure out.

Her Daughter follows the life of two best friends, Monica and Rachel(yes it got on my nerves at first but it grew one me) and their families. When one of them is put in a tight spot holding a secret. When families fall apart but don’t come together.

Wow what an emotional roller coaster. Filled with love, family, heartache, lies and much more. What a great book. Looking at the cover it looks like you are about to read a psychological thriller but no this is more of an emotional drama with twist and turns.

Stories between women and about women continue to appeal to me.
When I read the description I was all in.
I correctly anticipated one of the big plot twists and then I waited for the fall out.
I knew something had to give because the relationships were strained and cracks were visible.
I liked how the author resolved the issues but also acknowledged nothing was perfect.
Even a firm friendship can become strained and both Monica and Rachel had to decide if it was the worth the work.

Oh my god! This book is incredible! I loved this bunch of characters and the relationships they had. They went through a hell of a lot with so many twists I did not see coming. This is a book that you will start and not be able to put down until you’ve finished it. I was up till the middle of the night finishing this it was that good. Such a brilliant read. Will definitely read more from this author!

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoture for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This book officially publishes on 3/1/24!

Overall, this one fell flat for me. I will note, however, that I may not be the ideal reader for this type of book. Although I do understand the author’s premise for this novel, the twist was something I had guessed relatively early in the book. I also found the majority of the characters to be hard to relate to, if not downright unlikeable, which did detract from the plot for me while reading. Please check out any relevant trigger warnings if you decide to pick this one up!

This was my first time reading anything from this author and I am impressed. I like her characters, she writes quite a good story and you become absorbed into her story almost immediately. That's what you want isn't it when you pick up a book.
We meet an array of characters in this book but ultimately the storyline centers around two best friends. Two women who have grown up with each other and have each others backs.
Their families are growing up together and they rely on each other.
Rachel is married to Chris with children Chloe, Jacob and Savannah and Monica is married to Roman with children Lucas & Logan.
Rachel is very protective of her daughter Chloe having gotten pregnant with her while in university. Both herself and Chris decided to drop out of the studies and raise their child together. She doesn't want Chloe to ever go down the same path as her in terms of getting pregnant. She wants more for her daughter or at least wants her to complete her education.
But at that age, people think they know everything and what would their parents know.
I liked Rachel, she was very protective of her family. She wanted them to push themselves and want better.
Monica seemed to have married a man who was more interested in himself and appearances than his family.
But it was sad to see them fall out along the way and you would hope they could sort their differences.
Plenty of drama and I loved how it unfolded.
Well worth your time..

This is a tale of two close knit families who suddenly find the friendship is put to the test. Secrets, deceit and envy are all rolled into one gripping novel that kept me entertained to the end. The plot moved at pace and there were a couple of great twists to keep the momentum. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Daughter’ written by Jen Craven in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Chloe is the nineteen-year-old daughter of Rachel and Chris and when she finds herself pregnant goes to see Monica, Rachel’s best friend for over twenty years, making her promise not to tell anyone. Monica finds that tough as she and Rachel have always told each other everything, but then Chloe reveals another secret that threatens to rip the two families apart.

‘Her Daughter’ is the emotional story of two families and the secrets and lies that threaten to destroy them. The characters are described in such a way that they’re totally relatable to and my heart went out to both Rachel and Monica who thought they were doing what seemed right at the time. The story is spell-binding, grabbing my attention and not letting go until I finished it twenty-four hours later. Just as the family settle down with a new baby in the household there’s a massive twist that’s so shocking to be almost unbelievable. This is such an amazing novel that I found myself close to tears at times and joyful at others, well worthy of five stars and wholeheartedly recommended.

Dr. Monica Cross, MD, one of the top fertility specialists in Pittsburgh, and Rachel Moreland, tired, underappreciated mom to a 19-year-old university child, have been inseparable besties since they met in college. When Rachel gets pregnant 30 credits short of college graduation, their lives take different paths. Rachel and Chris Moreland are empty nesters and trying to find meaning to their new life. In evaluating their child-raising years, they look back with bitterness at the ease their friends seemed to experience. Needing to be fulfilled and recognized, both at home and in a career, Rachel becomes jealous and feels like her friend has been taking advantage of her kind-heartedness.
Monica and Roman Cross are the ultimate career-driven, life-in-the-fast-lane, power couple. They have a nanny to raise their two boys and struggle to balance the familial commitments with those of their careers. Their dedication to their professional lives comes at a cost. Both women are keeping secrets and their marriages, friendships, and careers depend on the secrets staying hidden but all is not what it seems in this thriller.
Read it today.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

Cloe is in college. She has just broken up with her boyfriend. Her parents want better for her than they had for themselves. They had her as a teenage pregnancy and didn't get the chance to go to college. They both now have mediocre jobs
Monica and Rachel, Cloe's mom are best friends.Monica is the aunt that, of course, Cloe feels safe to tell her anything
Monica now knows a big secret that Cloe has told her. She feels really guilty not telling her best friend this secret. If it were her daughter, she would want her best friend to tell her, so why hasn't she told Rachel the secret. This is killing her inside
Can Rachel and Monica remain friends and get through these secrets, or is there a bigger secret that has to come to light

Author Jen Craven returns following The Baby Left Behind with HER DAUGHTER — an emotionally gripping story of family, friendships, and hidden secrets.

Rachel and Monica are best friends and have been since college.

Rachel's daughter Chloe (age 19) has a secret (pregnancy) and turns to Monica—confiding in her mother's friend versus her mother due to the past.

Monica feels terrible and does not like keeping things from her friends; however, there is a bigger secret that can destroy all of them.

Told from POVs: Rachel, Monica, and Chloe. Is history repeating itself?

HER DAUGHTER is a story of friendship, jealousy, envy, marriage, motherhood, and secrets. Loyalties are tested—the characters are not honest with one another or upfront.

The ongoing theme throughout the novel is accepting what you have, and the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Part women's fiction, domestic suspense, family drama, and coming of age.

While I enjoy the author's books, I recommend the book versus the audio. I did not care for the narrator at all. The narrator, Amelia Sciandra, put no emotion into the performance, and her voice was rather annoying, like reading from a script.

I look forward to reading more by this author.

It’s described as a thriller but it has more a family drama style to it. It’s an easy listen if a little slow paced. The twists are a little predictable and nothing you haven’t read before so for me there wasn’t many surprises. It felt like the characters could have been developed as there was hints made when it came to some but not actually explained. I can’t say I really cared for any of them either. The narrator did a good job and held my attention. It was ok.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review #HerDaughter

Two best friends who are keeping secrets from each other. One is dealing with a dodgy husband and the other, a teenage pregnancy. As their lives implode, their friendship is being tested to the limit - but will it survive?! As they both try to deal with all the trauma in their lives, without leaning on each other as they would usually do, the cracks deepen in their friendship. and each wonders if they will ever be friends again. A story of women trying to hold it all together without the support network they usually rely on. Very realistic and very well written with some good twists thrown in
