This was such a fun book! I really enjoyed it and read it in one day! I would definitely recommend this book. This was the first from this author for me. I will be looking for more.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was such a fun read! The story is a cross between The Golden Girls and The Sopranos. The cast of characters are delightful and kept me wanting more. This crime spree out of need book did end in a cliff hanger. Looking forward to the next installment.
A delightful story about 4 women living in Florida in a retirement community who form a big crime syndicate out of need. They cross boundaries never imagined for older folks and prove that you are never too old for outrageous behavior.
I would like to start off by thanking netgalley for the opportunity to read this arc. If you love sopranos and golden girls then you will most definitely love this book because it is as if the two creators came together and made a fantastic book. Imagine the golden girls decided that they had enough of being in their beautiful retirement community doing nothing so they band together to create the perfect murder squad. They prove that age is just a number not only when it comes to life but death as well. This book was a really fun fast read and I will definitely be looking out for more books by Robson
The author’s attention to detail and captivating writing style make this a must read. The unexpected twists, moments of laughter, and endearing characters will keep you hooked. I look forward to the next installment.
Many thanks to The Book Whisperer and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Overall this one fell flat for me. With the expectation of Golden Girls crossed with The Godfather, it just did not compare. I was hoping for a novel with a fast pace and comedy which it didn’t give enough of. I really didn’t enjoy how long the chapters were, it made the book drag on. I enjoyed the quirkiness and antics of the Florida retirees though. 2/5⭐️
Can retired women still strut their stuff and take care of themselves and each other? This story is filled with great characters and a can't put the book down storyline. I enjoyed the connection between Benny and Ruby and also the closeness of the sisters as time went on. Excited to read the sequel!
This is my first book by Sandy W Robson.
The premise of this book was interesting but the delivery was a little too dry which was a bit disappointing and made it hard to be absorbed in.
While I didn't love this one, I would try this author again.
Review of “Bone Park” by Sandy W Robson

When I noticed I really couldn’t get into this story – like, starting it a few times over and just not vibing with the characters and story – I decided to read some reviews and saw people compare this story to “The Thursday Murder Club”, which I also really didn’t vibe with and ended up giving 2 stars a while back. Guess the genre of old people solving crimes is not my cup of tea. Maybe when I’m older? But, if you love that series, definitely get your hands on this one!
I was drawn to this book because of the cover and the premise, but from the very start I had a hard time getting into it. I tried starting over a few times, really giving it a shot, but I kept on stopping to read other stories. Since I’m not really wanting to continue books I’m really not into, which usually results in a slump, I decided to DNF this one.
Honestly, I think many people will really like this book, but I’m just not one of them, and that’s okay. Reading is subjective after all.
Little synopsis:
The Godfather meets the Golden Girls. In 1991, the quiet Florida retirement community of Cicada Hollow was the perfect place for seniors to relax and enjoy their golden years. It also was the place where four retired women joined together out of necessity, to become the biggest crime syndicate in American history. Love, sex, dreams, revenge and regrets have no age limit. Friendship and loyalty get stronger with time and these four bad-ass broads are about to draw a line in the Florida sand that no one will ever cross.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. All these opinions are my own :)
This was the first book I have read by Sandy W Robson and it won't be the last. This was a fun read with some great characters. You will definitely be entertained through out this book. I found it to be a really quick and easy read. Warning you will be left with a cliffhanger so be prepared. I can't wait for the next book. I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Book Whisperer for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion
Bone Park by Sandy Robson was not what I expected. Sorry, I did not enjoy reading this book that I received from Netgalley/Bookwhisper. I expected some humor and it was not there. I did completely read the book, but is was disappointed.
I received the ARC of Bone Park by Sandy Robson courtesy of The Book Whisperer and Netgalley. This novel is quirky, witty, and entertaining. I am not sure if it is a crime "drama" or mystery, but the characters were compelling. Set in a 1991 Florida retirement trailer park, two sisters attempt to redevelop their friendship, meet the neighbors, and settle in, but not settle down. Financial difficulties lead them to former crime associates as a way to become solvent, while involving neighbors and old friends. The dialogue rang true, the scenes were sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad. There is a bittersweet romance, and this book is a cliffhanger to the next in the series.
Bone Park by Sandy W Robson is sort of a comedy but what I read is the loneliness of aging and the lengths one has to go to, sometimes, to keep money coming it. Granted, we are talking about an ex-mobster and an ex-exotic dancer, neither profession having protected retirement plans. South Florida is a place for retirement, hence older folks, which is why the locals call the many trailer parks, bone parks. The only way to take up residence in one of these parks is for the previous resident to die or get carted off to a nursing home. They are not hopeful places; one might go so far as to call them boring. Such is the conundrum for Bernie, and her sister, Ruby. Ruby is a has-been exotic dancer and porn queen who hasn’t quite accepted the fact she is over the hill. She has a job in a bar, at first, where she waits on tables for the slow shifts, as her body doesn’t compare to the current ones on stage, no matter how pitiful they may seem. She works the slow shifts because she is a lousy waitress. She supplements her income by servicing men in their cars behind the bar. She doesn’t tell her sister. The sister contacts an old mob friend and starts doing pickups and deliveries, which is complicated by the fact that she had to sell her car, so she borrows or rents or something.
The characters are well-developed and sad. The only lift they get is from their misdeeds and even they know that’s sad. The other people in the park have distinct personalities, and ones the reader will recognizeif they have ever spent time in such an atmosphere. While well done, I found it extremely sad, although superficially quirky and funny.
I was invited to read Bone Park by Book Whisperer. All thoughts an opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BookWhisperer #SandyWRobson #BonePark
Two sisters who each have a shady past are now living in Florida at a trailer park. Trying to be incognito but that goes out when someone dies and they begin to look into it. There are funny moments and some serious ones but overall the two sisters get in and out of more problems and keep this story going. Good book with many different characters.
Wow a couple old gals from a dubious past. And they are sisters. The story is largely taking place in a senior citizen trailer park. The gossips, the nosey nellies and the trikes. But a bit tame for someone still in their 60s and needing money. How to make money? And that is where the story gets interesting. Ya gotta read this one to believe what the gals do to make money.
This is book 1 of the Grand-Mafia series. It's 1991, and Cicada Hollow, Florida, is a sleepy retirement paradise... or so it seems. Enter 4 female friends who think that retirement is boring and plot the biggest crime spree in the US. No one expects 4 older ladies to be able to do this, so they fly under the radar or do they?
Slow Read
Bone Park is a quite easy read. The characters are funny, and quirky at the beginning, but I found the story to drag along and is the reason for my low score. Thanks to NetGalley and to the publishers of this book for giving me a free advance copy of the book to preview and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was fun! Love seniors solving crime. Glad to see it's a series. It probably shouldn't matter but I was kind of put off that this was written by a man but I think he did a good job.
I liked the initial concept and thought it might be a fun novel to delve into. Unfortunately it felt a bit off, maybe to cluttered to keep me riveted, so it didn't really click with me.
Sisters who haven't spoken in 30 years end up sharing a home in a retirement trailer park in Florida. Each has a past they'd like to leave behind them. Unfortunately, the past is catching up and these senior women are not yet ready to just "roll over and die." This leads them to some shady and questionable methods of supporting themselves while still remaining under the radar from the local police as well as the FBI. The other residents of the trailer park are a quirky bunch with personalities and secrets of their own and Bernie and Ruby recruit the other women into their "meal delivery" business. With plenty of cash flowing in, what could go wrong?
The characters were entertaining and it was easy to picture this down and out senior's trailer park in the middle of nowhere where gossip flows as fast as the alcohol consumption and sweet little old ladies are far more capable of committing crimes than anyone suspects. I was a bit put off by the introduction of Natalie's character towards the end of the book and the "cliff hanger" ending for her character. It would have been nice to wrap up the current story line in this volume and just bring the main characters forward in a sequel.
