Wanted to appreciate this book, but it was a lot of faffing about to end up not saying much, in the end, unfortunately. I was waiting for actionable information - instead, the book was a succession of 'this study says this' and 'X person said that/has had this happen to them'. Too much filler burying the lead everywhere, so much so it was hard to figure out what the actual information was throughout.
Also not helped by the fact the Send to Kindle copy for this book was atrocious, the formatting completely botched, which made it very hard to read along and even fathom when some paragraphs were a sidebar or the actual text, aka a mess, which made it even harder to get through.
As a guide to healthy aging, this book is both comprehensive and informative. It provides information on all issues that women face - physically and psychologically; including references to current research and complementary options for common conditions. Written in a "chatty" style, it's an easy read. Recommended for women age 50+.
AGELESS AGING by Maddy Dychtwald and Kate Hanley is from the Mayo Clinic and it focuses on being "A Woman's Guide to Increasing Healthspan, Brainspan, and Lifespan." Dychtwald has been writing about age/aging with a particular focus on women for over a decade. She has really gathered key points in one place and offers practical advice in a friendly, conversational tone. She writes, "In each chapter, I've included practical tips, techniques, and hacks that I've categorized according to your level of experience.... [even including] an 'if you do one thing' tactic so that you'll know the simplest and most impactful step to get you started." Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, the Kindle version of this preview was so badly formatted that it was impossible to complete her suggested assignments (like checking off current practice of age accelerants or decelerants or highlighting changes a reader wants to make). Dychtwald begins by noting differences between chronological aging, psychological aging, and physical aging. Her subsequent suggestions are intended to help battle what she calls the intention/action gap and could be quite useful and motivating to readers. Between five and ten percent of the book is devoted to notes and helpful bibliographic references. Dychtwald says, "Let joy lead the way!" and I do think this could make a wonderful gift, but I would like to see a better formatted print version first.
Here's a standing ovation to AGELESS AGING by Maddy Dychtwald and Kate Hanley for the rarest of guides: a holistic guide encompassing body, mind, and spirit in easily accessible and actionable text. While much of the information was familiar, I'd never seen it pulled together with such intelligence, making it easy to visualize and actualize a vigorous thriving life no matter your numerical age. I appreciated the way the authors shared their information and perspectives, never feeling like I was being sold what they're selling. This book could make a wonderful gift for that friend who's doubting her vigor and possibilities or oneself when one needs that encouragement to be sociable, move, and connect with the world. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.
A thoughtfully written and well-researched guide to taking care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically as you age.
This book covered a wide variety of topics and while most of the information wasn't new to me, I appreciated that it catered to women specifically. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review - pub day is 5/14/24!

Super comprehensive including some more leading edge options to consider. The checklist at the end was helpful.
An extensive and yet very practical book covering all aspects of the ageing process, from the physical to mental and social. With easily digestable action plans the reader can personalise their approach to what is the most useful area and action for them to focus on.
It's an empowering read, enabling the reader to build their personal own ageing toolkit. A useful addition to any woman's bookshelf!

This was a great read that I would recommend to any woman at any age. It covered ageism, the far reaching effects that our thoughts and feelings affect us, the importance of finding purpose, and do much more.
It was full of practical ideas, recommendations, information, and practices to help women live their best lives, and longer lives, and written conversationally but with solid research to back up her findings. She covers a wide range of subject matter and sprinkles in her own lived experiences in a very relatable way.
I’m very grateful to have this book as a tool in my toolbox much like I loved having “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” by Toni Weschler when I was having children. I hope you read and share it with women you know.
Continuing my educational journey on attaining and maintaining good health in 2024 and beyond, "Ageless Aging: A Woman's Guide to Increasing Healthspan, Brainspan, and Lifespan" offered a plethora of healthcare advice for women that was a true winner for me.
I am deeply appreciative that the advice offered within these pages is focussed solely on women. Men and women age differently and have differing health issues that arise when aging, so it was nice to be privy to advice that was not generalized. As we age, we go through many changes which are out of our control, and it is reassuring to be able to refer to a book that is specific to our needs. Being aware and taking action as early as possible can help us tackle our aging process as deftly as possible.
In summary: this is a well-rounded read worth a place in any woman's library.
Thank you to Maddy Dychtwald and Kate Hanley for an ARC of this well written book which is anticipated to be published on May 14, 2024.
I enjoyed this book, it had good no-nonsense advice for living a healthy lifestyle to make the most of your years. There were a few red flags, mostly the mention of Dr Huberman and "leaky gut"... Dr Huberman is espousing very controversial medicine while also pitching his own supplements while leaky gut is a thing naturopaths mention that isn't actually a thing unless you have IBS and so those threw me off a little. Other than that, it was solid advice and I like that she talks about finances, health and your social wellness.
Longevity is all the rage lately, and this book is a great starter course. Women and men are NOT the same, and should not be treated as such. We need to walk our own path. This book provides plenty of information and guidance for that journey. There’s more to health than simply “eat right and exercise.” If you want to learn more about how to get healthy and stay that way as you age, definitely check out Ageless Aging.
Very detailed book about aging gracefully. Some of the things mentioned like food and exercise was something I already knew but social connection is something the book made me realize it was more important.
If you are a woman, you need to read this book. Your life could (literally) depend on it. Ageless Aging is packed with information, ideas, practices, and recommendations to help you live a longer life well. Written in an engaging and often entertaining style, with research to back it up, this book will not just inspire you but give you the tools and information to make real changes so that your later years are some of your healthiest and happiest. I can't recommend this book enough. I'm grateful to Net Galley and the book publisher for the opportunity to read this book early. It was life-affirming and life-changing.
This book contains many helpful strategies for women to boost healthy aging holistically. I liked the full-person perspective and plan to add some must-dos to my daily life.
Ageless Aging contains a wealth of information, including inspiring stories and high profile examples of women of age living their best lives. Building your wisdom, the positivity effect, and the importance of having friends and coworkers of all ages really ring true for me! I’m looking forward to charting my own path and plan to put the ageless aging recipe to work while pulling in my partner to talk about all this too. . I’ve been wondering lately what this next stage of our life looks like … what do I want it to look like, what do we want it to look like? This book has steps to help us start a conversation and formulate the answers.
This was a useful read, probably life changing if you put your everything into doing the work. Some of these things I knew, others I didn't. What I liked about it is that it gave me the feeling that I really want to do something to change my way of doing things in order to be more serene in my old age.
I enjoyed reading Maddy Dychtwald and Kate Hanley's book, Ageless Aging. They provide a solid and comprehensive framework for addressing social, physical, and emotional aging. Although most of the material was information I was already aware of through other resources, I did find the action plan at the end of the book especially useful. This action plan was broken down by chapter and provided specific steps that could be taken to address each area of aging. The action plan allowed me to prioritize my efforts and key in on the aspects that are most meaningful to me. #NetGalley
