This is book 5 in the Fairy Garden Mystery series. I have read all of these books and it’s a seres I definitely enjoy. The characters are great and they were all back for this one, including Fiona who had taken a month to spend in the fairy realm. I did think this story moved a little slower than previous stories, but it was still a fun mystery. Courtney is delighted the town is having a festival so she can drum up some new business for her fairy garden store, but when a friend of hers is found dead close by the festival loses some of it’s excitement for her. She’s glad to have Fiona back, and Fiona is mentoring her sister. Courtney tries to resist investigating, but she can’t help it. When a second woman is murdered she starts to worry that part of the connection between them is being friends with her. I liked the resolution to this one and found it to be a good mystery. It wasn’t the most twisty, but it was well written with some good red herrings.
A Twinkle of Trouble by Daryl Wood Gerber is another of her Fairy Garden mysteries featuring Courtney, the proprietor of Open Your Imagination, a fairy garden shop/workshop nestled in a courtyard in Carmel. At work with her every day are her assistant, Joss, her cat, Pixie, and her resident fairy, Fiona. Others, both fairy and human, venture into the shop on a regular basis. This is a good mystery, very character driven, but to be honest I read it more for the fairy gardens. She describes her process in detail while Courtney is working and it is fascinating. In this episode, her friend Genevieve, a social media influencer whose words Genevieve thought funny, but many others thought mean and hurtful, ends up dead as she is wandering around town, live streaming here and there. She was Courtney’s friend and she would be missed. But who could have done such a thing? The answer was both a shock and a revelation.
Courtney is a lovable young woman who enjoys living on her own. Her father is a retired police officer and now a gardener of some repute. Her boyfriend, Brady, is the owner of the Hideaway Cafe, a very popular eatery and a friend from childhood. She is curious and her curiosity gets her in trouble. The local detective, Dylan Summers, warns to regularly to not get involved. She is unable to listen. It is a happy place, full of fun and interesting people and it’s a shame murders happen there, but they do. And Courtney is there to solve them. Thanks Daryl Wood Gerber for such a fun series!
I was invited to read A Twinkle of Trouble by Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #KensingtonBooks #DarylWoodGerber #ATwinkleOfTrouble
Courtney is back in action and this time she needs to investigate quickly as the bodies are starting to pile up and is making one of her friends look super guilty. Enjoy a bit of whimsey with your murder mystery as the fairies are in full flying form and woven throughout sometimes helpfully and sometimes distracting Courtney! This series is always a must read for me, but this book definitely cements that fact home! The murder mystery is artfully woven while the interpersonal relationships between the characters remain compelling and intriguing to draw you even further into their lives. I absolutely can't wait to come back and visit Carmel again so we can see what Courtney is up to with her friends and especially Brady, but also to see what antics the fairies get up to next!
A Twinkle of Trouble is book #5 in the Fairy Garden Mystery series by Daryl Wood Gerber.
This is such a fun series! Great characters, great location - Carmel-by-the-Sea, interesting business, and fairies! The key to me is the characters. I enjoy seeing them grow and how relationships develop. I’d love to take one of Courtney’s classes and make a fairy garden. The mystery was well-written and they keep me guessing until the end. There are recipes at the end. This is one series that I buy the paperbacks because I love the covers.
Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
What a delightful series!
A Twinkle of Trouble follows along with the other books in this series with fairies, fun, and of course, murder! This time there are 2 murders that Courtney is attempting to solve to the chagrin of the local police detective, Dylan Summers. Everyone seems personable, but WHO could the murderer be? Did one person kill both people? Why would someone do this? What is happening to Carmel-by-the-Sea?
Having visited Carmel frequently, the descriptions of the town are spot on, the mystery is well written, and the people are engaging. Another great cozy read by Ms. Gerber.
There is nothing better than a fairy garden mystery. Courtney is preparing for a local festival when her fairy Fiona returns from an extended visit with her mother. Fiona’s excited that her sister will be visiting for a while so she can be mentored by Fiona. Unfortunately, murder is also on the scene as one of Courtney’s friends is found murdered adjacent to the festival. Join Courtney and her friends in trying to find who is killing the local gardeners.
I was happy that Fiona’s time away was spent off-story because I sure would’ve missed her a lot too, she always cracks me up! I wasn’t sure what to think about her sister at first and wondered if she was planning to get Fiona in trouble with the fairy queen or something. But Eveleen was just being a crazy little younger sister. With so many twists and secrets people had, I was never really sure of whodunit, so I just went along for the ride and let Courtney take the wheel.
That was some wild showdown worthy of a tennis match and was just another reason why I love Fiona’s character so much! Some main characters have dogs or cats that help but who else can say they’ve got a fairy running defense on their side, right? The food, fellowship, fairies and fun party at the end was awesome. It was somewhat bittersweet for Fiona, but as a mentor she knew it’d been coming. Now I’d just love for Brady to finally see the sweet fairy that lives at Hideaway Café, maybe next time!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.
All feels back to normal for Courtney when Fiona finally gets back from the fairy realm. She has missed the young fairy and excited for her return. Courtney has recently rented some land in hopes of being able to supply her own business instead of buying from elsewhere. She has also rented a booth at the upcoming Summer Blooms Festival and looks forward to spreading the word about her shop. The festival starts off with the murder of Courtney's friend Genevieve and puts a damper on the event. Genevieve has recently become an influencer who has no problem dishing out hurtful posts. She even hits at some of her friends. When a second friend is murdered Courtney with the help of Fiona must figure out just what is going on before anyone else ends up dead. Follow along in this magical series that brings fairies to life and makes you truly want to believe!
A TWINKLE OF TROUBLE by Daryl Wood Gerber
The Fifth Fairy Garden Mystery
Although they have a collective interest in gardening Courtney Kelly's new friends are a contentious bunch. Genevieve, a self styled influencer, has recently been panning businesses and people alike. She's even taken to bad mouthing Carmel-by-the-Sea's upcoming Summer Blooms Festival. Is it just sour grapes for not being invited to participate? Before Courtney can try to smooth things over with Genevieve, the influencer is found dead, murdered. When another in her circle becomes the prime suspect Courtney can't help but get involved. With her fairy friend Fiona by her side Courtney will dig deep to get the dirt on her new friends and find out just who's capable of murder!
A TWINKLE OF TROUBLE is a mystery about relationships, good and bad. Romantic relationships, relationships between relatives, friends, and pets too, all come into play. I like that Courtney has found new friends, but boy, what doozies these are! Courtney thinks they're just funny, but I found Genevieve, Daphne, and Scarlet to be just plain awful! I also call into question influencers. Who are they to tell me what to like, or not like? And unless they are experts in certain things I feel the same way about product reviewers. So automatically I didn't like Genevieve and Scarlet! And that says nothing about their personalities. I don't know why Courtney would ever want to hang out with them! Stick to good people like Joss, Meaghan, Renee, and, of course, Fiona. I love how Fiona is growing and that she was mentoring her sister in the fifth Fairy Garden Mystery. I laughed at their antics and sisterly affection, and annoyance. I also love Pixie and enjoy seeing the pets of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The mystery itself was compelling. It was obvious to see that lots of people could have wanted to kill Genevieve. But when the second murder occurs the waters become even more muddied. Surely the killings were related, but how? With lots of suspects and nasty behavior Courtney has a lot to figure out, because even though she works with the police, she doesn't just leave it to them. Which almost gets her in BIG trouble this time!
With fairy fun, good gardening, and scrumptious food A TWINKLE OF TROUBLE makes even dastardly deaths delightful.
A Twinkle of Trouble is the fifth book in the Fairy Garden Mystery series. Featuring fairies, cats, and a wonderful cast of characters, A Twinkle of Trouble is another slam dunk cozy mystery.
Courtney Kelly's fairy garden shop is booming. Between walk-in private lessons, group lessons, and individual sales, Open Your Imagination has become a popular destination for both believers and non-believers. Courtney even hosts fairy garden parties.
Courtney's fairy friend has returned from the fairy realm. Fiona had been gone a month, much to Courtney and her feline companion Pixie's dismay. Life can now get back to normal, and Courtney can focus on the Summer Blooms Festival and her quarter-acre of land at the Flower Farm. Except, the death of Courtney's friend Genevieve dims the happiness and excitement of the festival and farm.
This is a very unique story with unique elements. I enjoyed the fairy garden shop setting, complete with a live fairy. The characters are fun and exciting. I enjoyed Courtney's character. Her business is successful and thriving. She cares about her friends and citizens in Carmel-by-the-Sea and makes it her mission to help solve the crime, even when a couple of her friends appear as suspects. The author delivers several suspects with means and motive, and figuring out who committed the crime was difficult. There are twists and turns and red herrings, and while I may have suspected who committed the crime, I never was really sure until the end.
“A Twinkle of Trouble” is the nicely done fifth book in Daryl Wood Gerber’s Fairy Garden cozy mystery series. This is one of my favorite series – I love everything about it starting with main character Courtney Kelly, her Fairy Garden shop, and her ability to see fairies (every time I read this series I wish that I could also see fairies!). The fairies are a delight – in this one Fiona gets to mentor her younger sister – I love the relationship between the two. The mystery is a good one (there are two murders in this book) with plenty of suspects, clues, and red herrings. I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery alongside Courtney although I cringed a bit at some of the chances she took while investigating. The part where the killer is revealed was nicely done with just the right amount of tension. All in all a well done book.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
Courtney and her fairy friend Fiona are concerned when 2 of Courtney's friends are murdered. Could she be next? The fairy community join together to help Courtney find the killer.
Such fun! Light-hearted, great characters, well-written.
I love this series!
Labeled as a cozy mystery, but is it really? There’s a little bit of extra charm in this series with the fairies flying about. Just enough fantasy to add some sparkle to the daily happenings.
Fiona is home and her friends couldn’t be happier! Her sister is joining her for some human world training. And yes, even more fairy gardens are built! I enjoy the descriptions of each one.
Love the setting and all the small town feels. There is always someplace new to explore in this town and just a wonderful place I would like to visit. Visit, but not live. Too many murders! Another murder has occured and the suspect list is building. But wait! Could there be a 2nd murder making it harder to narrow down this list? Despite the blood shed, the friendships and romance keep this story going. I enjoy the bit of romance between Courtney and Brady and his support of her, even though he can’t see fairies - yet! There are a lot of characters to keep straight. Just enought to make me focus a bit more. The murder myster itself is interesting and the lovely combo of characters and story have me rating this story 4 solid stars.
Thank you NetGalley and #Kensington for the eArc of A Twinkle of Trouble. I recommend everyone give their imaginations a little extra fairy magic and read this series.
A Twinkle of Trouble by Daryl Wood Gerber is the fifth book in the charming Fairy Garden Mystery series. I was immensely entertained by this book! I’ve read all of the books in the series, but this can easily be read as a standalone.
If you like your cozy mysteries to have a little bit of whimsy and magic, you’ll love A Twinkle of Trouble. Though very few people can see fairies, Courtney Kelly is one of those that can! She’s the owner and proprietor of Open Your Imagination in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. If you’ve read any of my other reviews of this series, you know how much I love the setting. If you’ve never seen photos of Carmel-by-the-Sea, you need to Google some. It’s just like a storybook, and I hope to see it in person someday.
Wouldn’t you love to see a fairy? As long as they’re the small, sweet fairies, I’m in. Big scary fairies…keep away! Courtney has a fairy who has been with her for a while. She doesn’t “own” her. Fiona, the fairy, is with Courtney because Courtney needs her, she needs Courtney, and Courtney believes in fairies. Only those who truly believe can see fairies. Fiona helps Courtney with her cases…in a way. But she is helpful! You’ll be introduced to the other fairies who populate the town too!
The shops in Courtney’s world are wonderful, and I can imagine them in the photos I’ve seen. They’re artsy and whimsical, and some make delicious food and treats. The author really knows how to make you feel like you’re strolling the streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea with her descriptive language.
Once again, Courtney, like all good cozy mystery heroines, has become immersed in another murder case. Though she didn’t find the body, she was one of the first on the scene when a woman screamed. Then someone else is murdered. Are there two killers, or is there just one? I had a hard time determining whodunit! There are several suspects who wanted at least one of the victims dead, and a handful who wanted both dead. I finally figured it out near the end, but it was really really near the end! The author knows how to stump us even when she’s given us all of the clues! Those are the best kind of cozies! I like to be kept guessing.
I love everything about A Twinkle of Trouble, and I highly recommend this charming cozy mystery! The characters are well-written, the setting is delightful, and the murders are well-plotted. The whimsical fairies are the icing on the cake! They make an already captivating cozy mystery even better!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Daryl Wood Gerber takes us to Carmel-by-the- Sea to see Courtney Kelly and her magical companions, the fairies. As she prepares for the Summer Blossom Festival all is not right Her friend Genevieve is causing trouble with her nasty posts. She is making enemies. Her new position as an influencer may be the reason she's dead. Courtney along with her fairy are going to find out. The characters in A Fairy Garden Mystery are compelling and whimsical. Courtney is creative and observant. Her fairy gardens are magical. I was swept away by this cozy mystery. The story was filled with suspects aplenty as well as shocking surprises. It takes all of Courtney's investigative skills to find out who murdered two of her friends. The gardening tips were an added benefit. Reading A Twinkle of Trouble is a perfect way to escape our daily routine. Daryl Wood Gerber has a great writing style. I enjoy the touch of romance and I enjoy Pixie, her Ragdoll cat. I can't wait for more stories in this series.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and review. My comments are my honest opinion.
DNF at 30% - not the right time for me, and hard to follow a bit without reading the previous books. Love the fairy gardens!
When women Courtney has been working with are both found dead, she has to figure out why they are being killed and by who before she may become the next victim! This installment in the series felt a little less cozy and a little more scary, I am not sure why. I liked how Courtney worked hard to try and separate herself from the investigation while still seeming to stumble upon clues that the police might not take seriously. Of course the fairy element added a bit of lightness to the story, but even Fiona was having a stressful time dealing with her little sister, Eveleen. I love the escape into this sweet world of fairies and can't wait to see where this series goes!
Courtney owns a fairy garden shop in Carmel, California. She can see fairies. Her fairy friend has returned from the fairy realm. Courtney has rented a plot of land at the Flower Farm and booked a booth in Summer Blooms festival. When a dead body of a new friend is found. Courtney decides to investigate.
I liked following the clues with Courtney and Fiona. I'm not a big fan of the descriptions of building fairy gardens, I tend to skim those parts. I enjoy the storyline regarding the fairies. I like this fantasy cozy mystery series.
In Twinkle of Trouble, we visit Carmel by the Sea and learn of a host of fairies who live in the town.
Courtney is the main character. She owns a fairy garden shop, has a father who is a landscape architect and gardener, and has a boyfriend, Brady, who owns a cafe. She has a level of curiosity that gets her into trouble with the local detective on the police force.
Fiona is Courtney’s companion fairy. She gets to mentor her younger sister Eveleen. In each book the reader meets new fairies.
When a woman that Courtney has known only briefly is found dead, Courtney plans not to get involved, but her curiosity soon has her asking questions that lead to a bit of trouble.
I enjoy the setting and the paranormal aspects to A Fairy Garden Mystery series. I enjoy watching the mystery unfold and how Fiona and her friends help along the way.
Twinkle of Trouble is a delightful read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Cozies for the opportunity to read this book.
I admit to being a fan of this series- there's something about Fiona the fairy (I know, a fairy) that just makes me smile. Fiona and her human Courtney have once again found themselves in a pickle with a tricky murder case in their small town of Carmel by the Sea. The cozy part of this might feel a bit familiar but the characters make it interesting. Even better, though, is the introduction of Fiona's sister Eveleen, who has been sent to learn the ways of humans. Yes I know some people might think this is silly but it's fun and cheerful (despite the murders). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Oh- and recipes !
