Cute Novel I I love reading about the The Amish communities also love the romantic feel I will definitely be recommended in my book club and took my friends that love, romantic novels
Rachel Glick lost her father and brother and is the sole caregiver to her housebound mother. Rachel would love to go out and find other girl friends. Whenever she attends a singing or frolic, the boys surround her, and the girls isolate her. It is frustrating, as she has an unfair reputation as a flirt, which is ironic, because the only boy she has ever liked is Josh Yoder, her childhood best friend. They stopped being friends in eighth grade, and Josh is dating another girl.
Josh has loved Rachel since he was young. However, he finds himself responsible for some of Rachel's pain. He begins helping with basic repairs around the house. When Rachel's niece and nephew come to live with her, Rachel feels overwhelmed, and Josh is there to help share the burden.
It helps that Mrs. Vanderberg is up to her usual matchmaking and know Rachel and Josh are a great pair!
This was a cute read and a great addition to the series, but it can be read as a standalone novel.
Rachel and Josh were childhood friends. As they grew older they grew to love one another. Someday they would marry. But a tragic event separates them. Can they find their way back to each other? Sweet story.
Full of misconceptions, misunderstandings, and jealousy, Dating an Amish Flirt by Rachel J. Good is also a story of redemption and forgiveness. Will Racheal and Josh, childhood friends, be able to overcome their past and find forgiveness for themselves and each other? When a series of life-changing events occur, will Racheal and Josh be driven apart permanently or find their way back to each other? I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I found this book to be incredibly slow and long-winded. The entire plot can be summed up in one sentence: boy likes girl, girl likes boy, but they aren't together because of a misunderstanding in regards to something that happened years ago and they refuse to discuss it for various reasons. All 250+ pages of this book revolve around them almost talking about it but not because....reasons. On top of that we get so many internal monologues about how the characters feel, which was incredibly frustrating because they never voiced these feelings.
The idea of Rachel being the center of all male attention in the g'may was downright annoying. I understand the idea of a girl being beautiful and desirable, but to have every man and his brother staring at her, following her, interested in her - please. I had no sympathy for her having to put up with the rumors spun about her because she was indeed leading guys on and refused to say anything for herself because she "didn't want to hurt anyone's feeling." I have a feeling their feelings were plenty hurt when she didn't marry them. Was it wrong for people to spread rumors? Yes, but Rachel should have made some effort to dispel them and get those guys off her back.
Mrs. Vandenberg seemed more like a busybody than a sweet old lady trying to matchmake. Why would she do things specifically to make people gossip? She could at least advise Josh to break up with his current girlfriend before going after Rachel.
And lastly, the most unbelievable thing about this book was a 90+ year old woman using the word "awesome" in response to hearing good news.
3 stars because it was clean and I think somebody might like this, but I didn't.
Dating an Amish Flirt
by Rachel J. Good
Thank you Kensington Books, Zebra for allowing me to read Rachel Good’s upcoming April 23 release, Dating an Amish Flirt.
This book is Ms. Good’s sixth book in her Surprised by Love series. This is Rachel Glick and Josh Yoders story. The two grew up together and were life long friends until after the death of Rachel’s brother when Josh removed himself from Rachel’s life with no explanation. The characters are relatable.
The story moves well and the author adds just enough mystery to keep your interest. Of course, Mrs. Vandenberg is up to her usual matchmaking that just adds an element of charm to the story.
There are challenges throughout the story, Rachel looses her father and brother after which is thrown into caring for her disabled mother as well as loosing the support of her best friend and unexpectedly becoming mom to her cousin ‘s two orphaned children.
This is a 5-star you can’t miss read. I volunteered to read an advance copy of the book, and was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Dating an Amish Flirt by Rachel J. Good, book six in her Surprised by Love series, is an inspiring and heartwarming second chance tale dealing with loneliness, jealousy, love, mistakes, forgiveness, healing and faith. Rachel Glick has faced many trials in her life, but her best friend Josh Yoder helped her get through the death of her father but when her older brother died when they were young teens, something happened that caused Josh to pull away. Rachel now spends her days caring for her invalid mother and quilting to pay their bills. She has no female friends due to the unwanted interest she receives from the young Amish men who pay attention to her because she is pretty and sweet. Being labeled a flirt hurts Rachel as there was only one guy she was interested in, Josh who used to be her best friend; except Josh is trying to avoid Rachel while dating another Amish girl, Anna Mary.
Rachel's widowed cousin sends her two young children to stay with her while she has surgery. With all the responsibilities she has along with the changes in her life, Rachel wonders how she will handle everything. Mrs. Vandenberg, a local matchmaker, gets involved, as only she can; setting things into motion by sending Josh to fix things around Rachel's farm. Despite being forced together by Mrs. V, they try to resist, but their feelings for each other get stronger and harder to ignore. Before they can heal and move forward, they both need to confront their pasts and rely on their love and faith.

Dating an Amish Flirt is a well written Amish romance. I enjoyed the plot and characters. I received an advance copy from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
Definitely Five Stars. As far as this reader is concerned Dating an Amish Flirt is the best book of the Surprised By Love series. This book captured my heart from the first chapter. I loved the characters and especially the two main ones. Rachel Glick was my favorite character and I felt her pain because of the rejection she received from other students at school. Forgiveness and trusting God was the center point of the story. I thought the book was emotional and unpredictable. It was romantic and realistic. This book touched my heart and I’m glad I read it.
Dating an Amish Flirt is Rachel Glick and Josh Yoders story. The two grew up together and were life long friends until after the death of Rachel’s brother. For some reason unbeknownst to Rachel, Josh suddenly grew cold and distant to her. Rachel was a very pretty girl and all the boys in school wanted to court her. This made the other girls at school very jealous of her. They thought she was a flirt who was out to steal their boyfriends. Rachel was the most disliked girl and also was the most misunderstood girl at school. Actually she didn’t like all the attention from the boys . She was lonely, hurt and rejected. She was talked about both in school and at the Amish church meetings. Rachel had a good heart and was a caregiver for her disabled mother. She was used to being hurt and talked about behind her back but the person who hurt her most was Josh.
Josh Yoder grew up being the brunt of his older brothers cruel treatment and practical jokes. He was friended by Rachel Glick and her older brother Tim,when he was younger . He loved being with Rachel and Tim more than he did being with his own family. Then something terrible happened in his young life that made him walk away from Rachel’s friendship. He kept a secret from Rachel and it had to do with the way her brother died and why he died. He could never be Rachel’s friend again and she must never know the truth.
I recommend this book to readers of Amish Fiction and to fans of Rachel J. Good. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Dating an Amish Flirt is scheduled to be released on 4/23/24.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader’s copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are my own.

Great book, heartwarming and relatable to those who have been rejected by their peers. Rachel Glick a beauty to be hold and the boys swarm to her like bees to honey. Although Rachel repels these advances and offers of a buggy ride home after singings. Rachels heart belonged to one person whom she feel in loved with as a young girl. After the death of her father and then her brother she is left to care for her dibilitating mother. Josh Yoder, her one true love distanced himself from her after the death of her brother. Now, he is courting Anna Mary and no hope for her. In a change of events, Josh is taxed with helping out Rachel with repairs and trouble begins brewing. There is one person who has the special insight in connecting others, is it fate or is she really getting guidance from a higher power. A book you had to keep reading, a few story lines going on but they all tie up nicely.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I enjoyed this book very much. The story is set in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Rachel Glick as a young girl was happy and fearless. Tow tragedies plus her mom makes her retreat into herself. The other girls snub her and the boys want her attention, which she does not reciprocate. Josh has always loved Rachel especially when she stuck up for him when they were younger. Josh is also dating someone’s else. Unfortunately Josh has a secret and doesn’t think Rachel would forgive him. With a nudge an outsider, things come to light. Thank you to Kensington Books/Zebra. This is my own opinion.
I've read all the surprised by love series and this is my favorite. It was so touching and showed how forgiveness can be healing. Rachel had been labeled a flirt but there was only one guy she was interested in , her and Joag had been friends since childhood but after the death of her brother he changed and stopped coming around. Rachel's cousin sends her two children to stay with her while she has surgery. Changes happen and Rachel wonders how she will handle everything. Mrs. Vandenberg sends Josh to fix things around Rachel's farm, and as only she can starts putting things into motion. I loved reading this book, it was so sad, yet happy, full of love, faith and forgiveness. Thank you to Netgalley for giving me this book to read, I wasn't required to post review, it was my own.
Dating an Amish Flirt
Rachel J. Good
4 stars
I love this book. I immediately connected to Rachel Glick and her hard time making friends while she supports her mom by making and selling quilts at the local Amish market. I did struggle with the hatefulness of some of the Amish women towards Rachel, but I suppose catty woman cross into every aspect of life, even Amish ones.
Rachel Good writes relatable characters who you want to know in real life and befriend. This story is filled with surprises and unexpected emotions. I truly enjoyed this book.
Dating an Amish Flirt is part of a series, but each story is a stand alone that can be read independently of each other.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.
Such a beautiful story about forgiveness. I have read a previous book where the Englisher Mrs. Vsndenberg plays matchmaker. I love the addition to her in this story as well. A wonderfully wholesome story of love.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Zebra publisher for this book
Rachel and Josh's story was sad to me at points. I felt so sorry for Rachel having to miss out on teenage social events due to her responsibilities. It tugged at my heart when she was ostracized by the other girls and Josh distances himself and is courting another girl. At times I really disliked him.
I am so glad the story turned out the way it did and look forward to more by this author.
Recommend.
I loved this book! It's filled with themes of love, second chances, and forgiveness!
The characters are wonderful and easy to like! Rachel captured my heart right from the beginning. She has had a very difficult life. Losses, one after another. Josh has a sensitive heart. He genuinely cares about people. Mrs. Vandenberg is my favorite! She's sassy and generous!
I really appreciated the aspect of faith that was prevalent throughout the book! Even when times were tough, the characters put their faith in God!
I was provided a copy of the book from Kensington Publishing Corporation via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My description …
Some girls don’t have to even try. Boys just are attracted to them. I bet you knew someone in high school like that. I did. And, of course, I was one of the ones that didn’t. Turns out that the same thing happens in the Amish world. Rachel is such a girl. Her best friend growing up was Josh. But in the eighth grade (that’s the final grade in an Amish school), he distanced himself from her. She never knew why. But Josh knows why and he does love Rachel even though he is courting another girl. Boys still flock around Rachel like bees even though she gives them no encouragement. And the girls call her a flirt every chance they get. And they ignore her. Rachel lives a lonely life.
When the opportunity to do repairs on Rachel’s home, Josh jumps at the chance. Even if he is courting another girl. His heart wants – needs to help Rachel.
My review …
When I read the title, I thought “Amish Flirt??!!” Really. Lots of Amish young men would love to date|court Rachel but none do. And Josh can’t date her; he is already courting another girl so I think the title should be “Loving an Amish Flirt”. Novelists often do not get to title their books. They submit it with a title but the publisher can change it so I will make no deductions regarding the title.
But that “Amish Flirt” in the title intrigued me, so I requested to review it on NetGalley. And I wasn’t disappointed. The author, Rachel J. Good, is not new to me, but I haven’t read a book by her since 2022. I enjoyed this book. I can see why the girls called her a flirt. They were jealous and being a “flirt” in the Amish world is *not* a label you wish. The sad part for Rachel is she didn’t deserve it.
Rachel makes quillows to sell and I now feel a bit ignorant. I’d had never her of quillows before reading this book.
Ever been in a place where there are people — even a bunch of people, and feel alone? If you haven’t, it is not the same as being alone and lonely. In a group of people, you cannot show on your face what you are feeling. Imagine Rachel at a singing with the boys clustered around her. Yet not one friend in the group. And the girls not only ignore her but gossip about her. That’s Rachel’s “social” life.
Enter Mrs. Vanderberg (who has been in past novels set in the same community). Oh! To have a Mrs. Vanderberg in your life. The woman is amazing. She is amazing. She is amazingly wise. Mrs. Vanderberg and God have an understanding. She calls them God’s nudges. She also seems to know exactly what to say *before* an action that guides a person to do what is right. Mrs. Vanderberg, I live in a senior community. Could you move here?
Rachel’s life changes the day she is notified that her cousin Cindy, the single mother of two children, is very ill.
And before you think Josh’s life has been a bed of roses, it hasn’t.
I liked this book. Did I love it? No. But I did like it. I’m very partial to the character, Mrs. Vanderberg. And having experienced being lonely in a crowd more than once in my life. That you feel like everyone there wishes you weren’t. Yeah, I identified at times with Rachel.
Why doesn’t this book feel like a five-star? There are a lot of characters but unlike another book by the author that I gave a three-star review, I did not get lost in the characters. Was it the pacing? Maybe. It was a bit slow at times but not overly so. Was it the plot? No, the plot was interesting. Possibly, for me, it brought up memories that I’d just as soon forget. My rating is 4.5 stars, but only 4 stars on sites that cannot display fractions.
I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of Dating an Amish Flirt via NetGalley from the publisher, Kensington Books, Zebra. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I am so sorry to say, I did not finish this book. I gave it until the end of chapter 9 and I was just not engaged at all. There were a lot of characters that I did not feel connected to and more were being introduced. By page 79, I was hoping I would be hooked in the storyline and I just wasn’t. I was tired of Anna Mary treating Josh like garbage and Josh just kept putting up with it and coddling to her. I couldn’t do it anymore.
Having said that, I encourage people to read the description and see if this is a book that would be a good fit for them.
This is the first book I have read in the Surprised by Love series. I want to go read the rest of them after reading this book.
Rachel and Josh were best friends when they were young but then tragedy struck and their friendship ended. Rachel has endured quite a bit of hardship in her life and because of that she has become lonely.
Rachel and Josh are thrown together by the town match maker, which they try to resist, but they each have their pasts to overcome. This book is about forgiveness, trust and hope.
Rachel and Josh keep a lot of their feelings to themselves. Josh blames himself a lot. When he finally opens up to Rachel about why he abandoned their friendship, I did not see that apology coming!
I enjoyed the aspect of faith in the book and the overall theme of trusting God and relying on Him. I love a good Amish book!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, opinions express in this review are my own.
Really cute wholesome novel. I enjoyed reading it. Can’t wait to read more novels from this author. 5/5 recommend.
