Rachel and Josh were friends when they were kids, but something changed and she never did find out why. Judging by the title you would think he would be the flirt, but it is her instead. Enjoyed this one, although all the angst of the youth was easy for me to skim (being over 50). Still though, enjoyed it and would recommend.
This is a new to me author.
This book is full of love, second chances, and forgiveness. It really showcases the everyday faith the characters have, the way they put their trust in God, no matter how hard life becomes.
I adore Amish romance books, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.
Another well written novel by Rachel J. Good.
The only thing I really didn't like was the repetitiveness of Josh blaming himself and that he wasn't good enough.
Other than that I lived every minute of the story.
Of course, I'm always happy to see Mrs. Vandenberg back! She's my favorite character. She's a no nonsense lady that sometimes knows when someone needs a little nudge.
God's angel is what I like calling her.
I loved little Zak and Marianna too.
I finished this book in one day it was so very good.
Lots of misunderstandings and a whole lot of love and forgiveness.
It takes a strong person to forgive and really mean it.
I was proud of Rachel. She's perfect example of being a good role model even in the toughest of times. Its not easy is it to do the Lord's work?
5 stars for a well written story. I highly recommend. My thanks to Netgalley and Kensington for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I found this book to be delightful and it was hard to put down. The storyline was built around guilt and forgiveness and the cover definitely caught my eye. Rachel Good always writes amazing stories and I am glad I picked this one up to read. I highly recommend it.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All words are my own.
This is the 6th book of the Surprised by Love series all centering around workers and the owner of the Green Valley Farmer’s Market in Lancaster, PA. I have read all of these books and have enjoyed each one of them and the characters.
This book centers around Rachel Glick, a lovely, sweet Amish girl who has faced many trials in her life. After her father and brother both passed away, her mother became unable to function well, so Rachel has had to take over her care. In doing so, she has not had the chance to attend the activities of the young people, particularly missing her childhood best friend, Josh Yoder.
Neither of them has been able to tell the other how they really feel about the other as different events have taken place in their lives to lead to separating them from their friendship.
Will sudden parenthood, jealousy, hurt, truthfulness, confession, and forgiveness be able to change the direction of their lives? If so, how can this be done? A matchmaker in their midst may be able to play a part in getting them back together.
This is a very quick, enjoyable read that I would recommend to all who enjoy reading Amish books. I received a copy of the book from Kensington Zebra publisher and NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
Love, mistakes, forgiveness, and healing
I loved, loved Josh and Rachel’s second chance Amish romance. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I felt especially connected to Rachel’s character in this story. Her sweetness, quiet acceptance, faith, work ethic, and heart pain really touched my heart. The story had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, and faith and had me feeling all the things - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. Josh and Rachel are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best as messy fallible humans who make mistakes. They were best friends beginning from the age 9. When they met, Rachel was sweet, exuberant and fearless and Josh was steady and reliable. Josh helped Rachel through the death of her father but when her older brother died when they were 13, something happened causing Josh to pull away. Rachel now spends her days caring for her invalid mother and quilting to pay their bills. She has no female friends due to the unwanted interest she receives from the young Amish men who pay attention to her because she is pretty and sweet. She has only ever loved Josh. Josh is dating another Amish girl, Anna Mary, and actively avoids Rachel. When Ms. Vandenberg, a local matchmaker, gets involved and a pair of children are added to the mix, Josh and Rachel end up spending a lot more time together and their feelings for each other get harder to ignore. To get to their HEA, they’ll both need to deal with their pasts and lean into love and their faith. This was a beautifully crafted story of second chances, grace, forgiveness, and love all within the beautiful backdrop of the Amish community’s faith and lifestyle as shown through sweet moments, mundane life snippets, painful pasts, friendships, and life choices.
I LOVED this book! This was the sweetest read ever and I got lost in it for all afternoon. Rachel and Josh had my heart from the very beginning. There story was an interesting one and I enjoyed watching the present play out with glimpses of how they were in the past. When Rachel becomes the guardian of her cousin’s children and Josh steps up to help her my heart was lost to them. This truly was an engaging and heartwarming romance. I’m giving 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗙𝗟𝗜𝗥𝗧 the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
Misunderstandings in the past cause childhood sweethearts to miss years together, but fate, in the form of a very special matchmaker and her manipulation of circumstance, bring the fated lovers together.
