This was a gripping novel that delivered relentless suspense and complex characters, set in a dystopian future it definitely stayed with me long after the book was finished. It kept my interest through and I really enjoyed it and I wasn’t sure I was going to. Thank you

"Titan's Tears" by Chad Lester is a gripping, emotionally charged novel that masterfully blends epic storytelling with intimate character development. The story pulls readers into a vividly crafted world where myth and reality intertwine, immersing us in the struggles of its flawed, relatable characters.

Lester’s writing shines in his ability to weave intricate plotlines while exploring deep themes like loss, resilience, and redemption. The pacing keeps the pages turning, with moments of intense action balanced by poignant, reflective passages. The world-building is rich, full of evocative imagery that lingers long after the final page.

The only reason I held back one star is that a few subplots felt underdeveloped, leaving me wanting more closure in certain areas. Additionally, the pacing occasionally faltered, with some sections feeling slightly rushed compared to others.

Overall, Titan’s Tears is a compelling and thought-provoking read that I would highly recommend to fans of mythic and emotional storytelling. It’s a book that stays with you, and I’ll certainly be looking forward to more works from Chad Lester.

A suspenseful dystopian future era thriller.

Sophia, Belle, and Seth. Sophia is the CEO of a multi-trillion power house, Belle is a simple girl who is living her life when she is called for a un beatable job interview, and Seth is a normal hard working disease ridden man. How do their fates intertwine?

I really enjoyed the page turning qualities of this book, with the dual pov. I found the link between each POV to be quite clever, and found myself shocked and surprised by some of the reveals.

The book really gives us a glimpse of a futuristic world and how the advancement of AI could come to shape the future of our world - and how far science will go and can go.

I would say from 65% through to 85% the book lost me a tiny bit, however towards the end there were plenty more twists and turns to keep me on my toes until the end of the book.

At times I did not enjoy the writing style, but I was able to work with it and appreciated it in some places more than others, and I don’t understand the name of this book or its relevance to the story (unless I am missing something here.”

All in all a 4 star read for me and I would recommend this book.

It took me a little bit to get into this book but after that I really enjoyed it.

It's an interesting take on a familiar story but it brings some fresh ideas to it.

I would definitely read more from this author.

Alaska in the future, technology versus machines versus Humans...can they live in harmony? Will there be a natural hierarchy? Will we need empathy to survive? What part does love play?...Read it!

Whilst there are some familiar tropes within the book, overall this was a gripping and enjoyable read, but not one I would find myself returning to anytime soon

I typically books very quickly and I struggled with this one. I could not get into it, and the story line seemed jumbled. It is set in the unspecified future where AI has a heavy presence in the world. The premise and cast of characters did not seem to mesh well and it seemed like too many elements were thrown into the plot to try and make it more interesting. This one was not for me, but I would try reading something else by Chad Lester.

I couldn't read this as an ebook for some reason so will get it when it comes out! Sorry! (Leaving a 4 star review to be fair.)

Titan’s Tears is an intricate science fiction world. The beginning of the book has a slow start but expect to accelerate later in the book. During this read, you will follow four characters that confront the interfaces of humans and AI. This book also highlights ethical considerations in technology development and jumps between can we do this and should we do this. Overall a 4 star book.

A tangled web of characters coalesce, but will they escalate or resolve potential armaggeddon-scale technologies. Their histories start to come closer together until the finale is revealed

📖 Book Review

Titan's Tears by Chad Lester
Published by Chad Lester, 30th June 2024

A sci-fi thriller set in the near future on an island off the coast of Alaska, the story centres around Eccleston Evolution, a high-tech company founded and presided over by Sophia Eccleston. The plot follows three seemingly unconnected people:
Seth, a disillusioned slaughterhouse worker who lives in Oregon. He is devastated by the loss of his wife Anna and daughter Joan, and receives an offer from 'Sam', an unknown voice in his head. He is to complete some tasks for him in order to be reunited with Anna.
Belle, an aimless 30-year-old living in an Alaskan village, receives the offer of a job from Eccleston - as Nanny to Sophia's eight-year-old daughter Juno, who is the third person.

A well-written book with many surprises to keep the reader turning the pages, there are a great many totally unexpected twists and turns, and the book gives off energy and excitement. The characters are well developed, vividly depicted, and the relationships, particularly between Belle and Juno, are quite charming.
Although this is a sci-fi thriller, it is not too far out there, and the plot makes quite a believable scenario for the future of the world's population.

Unnatural events are unfolding on a remote island off the coast of Alaska.

Belle, who was once living in a peculiar village plagued by strange visions, now finds herself arrested for murder. Just months ago, she had received an enticing offer to work for the enigmatic scientist Sophia Eccleston on an isolated island. The job promised exceptional pay and luxurious accommodations but came with strict and peculiar security measures.

Meanwhile, a once-essential slaughterhouse worker, now obsolete and living in seclusion, also receives an unusual invitation to the island. His arrival may bring either salvation or doom.

Sophia, battling a hostile takeover of her company and desperate to keep her eight-year-old daughter’s true identity secret, is also on the island. Here, the trio faces a gothic odyssey amid rogue technology, transgenic creatures, and murder machines.

The novel’s buildup is gradual, with major events occurring past the halfway mark, but it allows for deep character development. Belle’s heartfelt interactions with Juno, a young child, underscore her desire to be a teacher. While the author excels in "show, don't tell," repeated phrases, such as characters "wringing their hands," could use more variety. Despite this, the pacing and character investment create a compelling and immersive

Titan's Tears centers around a triad of characters: Belle, a vulnerable young woman with a strange history, Sophia Eccelston, a brilliant but ruthless billionaire, and Seth, a blue-collar worker made obsolete with a vengeful streak. It purports to be an unfettered exploration of the consequences of technological progress.

In reality, this novel is a bit of a mess. The characters are cartoonish, obvious avatars of purely good or purely evil people. The themes are thinly veiled, as are the author's opinions, under a narrative that is bland and frankly, difficult to read. It was a tough slog to get through, and I'm surprised at myself that I didn't DNF.

When I thought the story couldn't get any more unrealistic, the author spends the final third throwing every well-trodden science fiction trope at the reader, overwhelming one with twist after twist that would be interesting if they hadn't all been done to death. Reading Titan's Tears felt like I was reading a first draft.

Amazing! As someone who isn’t (or rather wasn’t) really into the sci fi genre , this book genuinely changed my mind. I have recommended it to all of my friends.

I found this completely compelling and could not WAIT to finish it. I’m still thinking about it months after after. Fully recommended read.

I felt intrigued and pulled in by this story. The characters are on an isolated island near Alaska and we follow them throughout the story. I did not put this book down and needed to find out what happened next. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Titan's Tears..what can I say!? Fear of AI taking over the world, immortality, cryogenics, humans loosing the ability to communicate with each other was cool when Arthur C. Clarke, Asimov and others were writing about it! In this in this time and age, when we are seeing many of this things in play, it's a bit boring!
The first 3/4 of the novel felt rather predictable, the science fiction bits were more than obvious and the human relationships weren't far behind either! To say it was a very slow burn, is an understatement! Luckily there is a twist, which saved the book a little: the science fiction does not offer any surprises, but there are surprises at the human level. I really don't want to say more, because if this is going to be the only bang in the book, as it was for me, I wouldn't want to spoil anyone's enjoyment.

And as if that was not enough we have such a soppy happy ending! Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of hope after a storm, but here it's just too much!

Dystopian/Sci-fi type novel with topics like wealth, greed, power and technological breakthroughs to slow down the aging process all thrown in for added intrigue.
This novel is well written and well plotted. It’s engaging and entertaining. The author has created a totally believable world where robots, nanobots and the like are all the norm.
Told in several POV the characters are interesting, well developed and richly drawn in this intriguing novel.
In parts the novel reads like a thriller and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

This novel makes you think about what really goes on behind closed doors at big science-related corporations. It's an intriguing read, telling the story from a few perspectives. There are a few good twists along the way as well.

I'm sorry to say I found this book something of a chore. The author clearly had some good ideas but it was not that well executed. I finished but thought the pacing was off - a slow start, some timespans glossed over or described in minute detail, a rushed ending. The 'action' all took place in the final 30% or so. There was lots of exposition in some parts and pages of dialogue in others.

The characters, especially Belle, were bland and a long way from engaging. The plot had too many elements incorporated - the author needs to learn what to cut out and what to keep. Too frequently the book reminded me of sci-fi films (Terminator, Jurassic Park, Matrix, I Robot, etc). The whole book felt self-indulgent and rather disjointed, and is way too long in my opinion. A strong edit would be useful.
