solid read, and wonderful debut. it is very suspenseful, thrilling and overall kept me on my toes. i enjoyed this read!
Oh my goodness! This was an AMAZING read that totally lived up the hype.
I’m not a huge YA fan mostly because I’m not a fan of immature dialogue but this was an amazing YA read that reads in a mature manner. The narrator read well and I loved this as an audio book. The ending left me shook and full of emotions. This will be a favorite book of 2024.
This is the most impressive and compelling YA book I have read in some time. I typically steer clear of YA thrillers, as they just don’t suit my taste. However, I was blown away by this book. I can’t wait to recommend it! The audiobook was excellent- the narrator did a wonderful job.
This book is a must read. It was so gut wrenching the whole time, but in a good way. The way the author writes is so so good. You will not want to put this book down. I love a good YA suspense/thriller, and this definitely fits in that category!
What a debut! I ate this up chapter by chapter, listening way longer than I should each time.
The story is told by Mary and Drew, and both narrators did an awesome job of conveying the mood of the story.
The author gave just enough before the story changed perspective to leave you asking questions you needed to find answers to. Although this was a YA book, it felt like it could easily appeal to thriller fans in general, and YA fans alike, having both a ticking clock urgency, and strong, emotionally-charged characters.
What an incredible debut! I don’t know how Lally can top this, but I’ll pick up any of her future releases.
Falling into this mystery was as easy as breathing. I was immediately intrigued by the teen girl who wakes in a ditch with no memory of how she got there or even who she is. Fortunately she’s picked up by an officer who takes her to the police station. It’s not long before a man shows up claiming to be her father, and he’s got the documents and photos to prove it. He says her name is Mary. She goes home with him, but after several odd incidents, she’s not so sure he’s who he claims to be.
After Drew’s girlfriend disappears, the local cops and most of the small town are convinced he murdered her. It’s always the boyfriend, after all. Drew may be hiding secrets, but he didn’t hurt her. When the sheriff refuses to look anywhere but at him, Drew and a couple of his friends take matters into their own hands, determined to prove his innocence.
This novel is told through Drew’s and Mary’s POVs. As I tried to piece their stories together, the dots weren’t connecting, but I couldn’t figure out what I was missing. Once I formed a theory, I listened to the audiobook until I finished. I had to know. Both narrators are fantastic. This dark mystery/thriller captivated me from the first page, and I was so happy the author included an epilogue. It was perfect.
If you have something you’re looking for an excuse to avoid – household chores, annoying people, errands, etc. – here it is. This fast-paced, intense thriller will keep you glued to the pages. This is an author to watch.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Narrated by Sophie Amoss, Robb Moreira ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Novel by Megan Lally ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! Even though this novel is classed as a YA it is a book all age groups will enjoy. The pace, characters, and story was really good. It was a more PG version of Robert Dugoni's "My Sisters Grave"
I will definitely be buying this for my 15 year old neice upon release.
Take my review with a grain of salt as I thing I'm the only person who did not enjoy this one. I think it started out strong, but it was so long winded, especially Drew's POV. We all knew what was going on so I didn't see the point of stretching it out so much
I am so pleasantly surprised by the book! This was an excellent thriller. I wasnt sure what to expect from a YA thriller but I didn't really see a difference other than that the characters are teens, which didn't take anything away from the story. I am more than impressed by this author. This is not what you would call an HEA but it is an excellent read which a surprise ending. Buckle up for this one

Summary: It was a mistake to trust him.
Shivering and bruised, a teen wakes up on the side of a dirt road with no memory of how she got there—or who she is. A passing officer takes her to the police station, and not long after, a frantic man arrives. He’s been searching for her for hours. He has her school ID, her birth certificate, and even family photos.
He is her father. Her name is Mary. Or so he says.
When Lola slammed the car door and stormed off into the night, Drew thought they just needed some time to cool off. Except Lola disappeared, and the sheriff, his friends, and the whole town are convinced Drew murdered his girlfriend. Forget proving his innocence, he needs to find her before it’s too late. The longer Lola is missing, the fewer leads there are to follow…and the more danger they both are in.

My thoughts: thank you @netgalley @sourcebooks and @dreamscape_media for the advanced copy of this one. I would say this is a thriller with no plot twist or crazy reveal. Parts of this were super interesting, I think this one started so strong but Drew’s perspective was really YA and boring. I much preferred the story from Mary’s POV. However this one was just kind of fine. Really great narration but overall the story started strong and just fizzled out.

A thrilling young adult book. You follow several people, someone who´s lost their memory and has no idea what´s going on and a person whose girlfriend is missing and is frustrated with how people around them are handling it.
At points I could feel the frustration and helplessness. An exciting read/listen!
**4.5 stars**
I absolutely loved everything about this. It wasn’t a mind-blowing, twisty, super crazy mystery, but it was exactly what I wanted. I feel like this would be perfect for true crime lovers and it was extremely well crafted. I instantly felt connected to the two main characters and felt their emotions as if they were my own while reading. Everything they were feeling and thinking was very realistic to the situations they were placed in and their actions, even though occasionally a little far fetched, made sense too.
The side characters could have been given a little more depth, however, I enjoyed their additions to the story nonetheless. The dual POV, the setting, and the timeline were all presented flawlessly. Not only was the story told well, but I couldn’t put it down with how captivating the plot was! I’m so excited to read more from this author in the future and love the raw, compelling, and emotional elements that she’s bringing into the YA mystery space!
Okay, so who else really enjoys thrillers where you thought you called the ending...AND YOU WERE WRONG?! This audiobook was so well done, between the differing timelines and POVs, it really was truly remarkable and I really enjoyed the ride.
I'm not going to say more to avoid giving too much away, but this one should be on your TBR.

audio books with multiple narrators are my thing. I was so intrigue by the premise of the book. It was a enjoyable book to lisent and I enjoyed how the dual POV make the storyline more solid and that flow more easy. Brilliant book of the narrators
Thank you Netgalley for this audio edition of That's Not My Name by Megan Lally.
I always love when audio books have multiple narrators, especially when the narration is split between two people. Great narration!
Mary wakes up beaten and bruised on the side of the road, unable to remember anything about herself, including her own name. She can't even remember her dad, who has all of the documentation he needs to take Mary home to her very sheltered life in the woods.
Drew is absolutely desperate to find his girlfriend Lola, who has been missing ever since she stormed off after they got in the fight. But the more he and the cops search, the less likely it seems they will ever find her, which is why he and a few of his friends decide to take matters in their own hands.
This did and didn't go in the direction that I expected. It has some enjoyable twists that had me guessing. I was fully interested in the story the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed the grit and determination of these young people. A fantastic YA thriller.
I loved the premise of this book. Lots of intrigue and keeps you guessing.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC
Wow, loved this book! Gripping. Had me invested right from the start. I love a good teenage sleuth story. Some bits far fetched, like the sheriff being so un-invested in a local kids disappearance. I loved it and couldn't put it down. Thought I knew what was going to happen for sure, so the ending got me! Lovely narration of audiobook.
This is fantastic! The story is unique and well-written and it moves at a perfect pace! The characters are well written and I was invested in finding out what happened. I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook which was wonderfully narrated! This was one of the best thrillers I've listened to and I would highly recommend this! Special Thank You to Megan Lally, RB Media and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Who is Mary Boone? Does anyone really know?
A teen wakes up in a ditch with no recollection of how she got there, what happened, or who she even is. What really happened to Mary? How did she get there? Who will find her? Will she remember who she is?
That’s Not My Name was my last read of 2023 and made it into my top 10 favorite reads of the year. HOLY MOLY….did I LOVE this one! It was so fast-paced, twisty, turny, and shocking. I can’t believe this is a debut novel because it was AH-MAZING! Although it is labeled as a YA thriller, it did not read like one and can be enjoyed by anyone who picks it up! I am excited to read more from this author because clearly this is only the beginning for Megan Lally.
The narration of this audiobook was excellent. The pacing was just right and the dual POVs really added to the overall story and engagement. The narrators painted a true picture of the characters and made you feel like you were watching the story come to life on the screen of your TV. Once you pick up this page-turner, you won’t be able to put it down. This book will have you canceling plans, neglecting responsibilities, and staying up past your bedtime to find out what happens. 5 STARS!
