This was a fun one! I was super invested every step of the way and was so shocked by the twist that “Mary” wasn’t actually Lola. I loved all the characters and was rooting for them to figure everything out.
I'm a bit torn on this one. It was enjoyable enough and I definitely expected it to do one thing but it didn't follow that route and surprised me, but it wasn't thrilling, nor filled with clues to keep me actively engaged.
It was fast enough for an audio but I think if I'd been reading physically I'd have given up.
I also feel like I can't really give a synopsis as not enough happened that I could tell you what happens without just telling you the whole story?
This book hooked me right away. I knew something wasnt right but I didn't know how or why and I needed to figure it out. It did slow down a tiny bit for me but I pushed through and I am glad I did. When it picked up and answered started to fall into place I was wanted to listen to this all the time and not put it down. Even to the very end where I was wrong at what I was thinking was the case of what was going on. I love when a book surprises me! I very much so enjoyed this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a great audiobook. The narrators did amazing in keeping me hooked and it was a well written thriller.all around really good listen!
Mary has no memory of how she ended up beat up in a ditch. But when a nice police officer finds her reunites her with a man who says he is her dad, she has no reason not to believe him. Meanwhile, Drew is being accused of killing Lola, his girlfriend, who has been missing for 5 weeks. He swears he didn’t do it and will stop at nothing to find her.
I thought I had this one figured out early on, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! This was a page turner for sure!
As someone who is super picky about audiobooks, I’m so happy I finally found an audiobook that was super easy for me to get through! Usually the narrator makes or breaks an audiobook for me, but these narrators made this book. Being an avid thriller lover, the narrators really reminded me of a dramatized crime show which always keeps me captivated when listening or reading this type of genre.
The pacing of the audiobook was perfect and felt that the dual POV really helped with the storyline. Although the plot was a bit predictable and can kind of figure out where the story is going to go from the first few chapters, I never found myself bored of the plot or the characters.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone who is a true crime or thriller lover!
Thank you to RB Media, NetGalley, and Megan Lally for an advance copy of That’s Not My Name in exchange for an honest review.
First off, I can’t believe this is a debut- it was excellent! This book is told is multiple POVs. It follows three friends as they try to track down their missing friend, Lola. The other point of view is told by Mary, our Jane doe in the story. I found myself turning the pages as fast as I could to figure out what was actually happening with Mary as her friends tried to find her.
I think this was really well written and had a good & developed plot for a YA thriller and it didn’t feel juvenile to me. The narrator did a fantastic drawing the listener in to the story and kept me engaged & engrossed throughout the story. This one is out now!
4.5 rounded up to 5 for GR!

📕Cover ❤️🔥👍
🗣️Narration👍
Soooo apparently you CAN judge a book by its cover, because the cover on this book is fantastic and the book is equally fantastic. I like to go into a thriller blind, so I didn’t even realize it was categorized as a thriller for young adults. I’m glad I didn’t, as I may have just passed it by.
Keep in mind though it is written especially with young adults in mind, so several of the characters talk like young adults throughout. If you can’t get past that or desire more sophisticated characters in your books, then this book is not for you. However, this 53-year-old young adult loved it. 😄
You have dual storylines.
-Mary Boone who wakes up in a ditch on the side of the road. Despite her battered and bleeding state, she has no idea how she got there or who she is.
-Drew, who has been linked to the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Lola and is currently their #1 suspect in the case.
This book follows the narratives of each of them individually until you uncover the truth.
The author manages to capture your attention from the beginning and maintain it until the end. I loved the characters and the dual female and male POVs. I thought Megan did a great job of developing the them and making us care about them, using each to tap into our emotions. I experienced feelings of angst, fear, frustration, and sorrow. The book was well-paced and downright engrossing.
The narration was impressive as well. The narrator’s delivered age-appropriate voices, and their inflection throughout fit perfectly with the vibe.
Thank you Netgallery, Megan Lally, and RBMedia for my ALC in exchange for my honest review.
4.5 stars
I went into this blind as I didn’t read any of the descriptions.
This story had me hooked from the beginning. Every chapter I wanted to know more about what happened to Lola.
The characters had a great development.
This is a fantastic YA thriller setting and it gave me A Good Girls Guide To Murder vibes. Also what an amazing first debut!!!
If you love a suspenseful novel that gripped you from the beginning then this is your book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Megan for my audio copy!
Loved it, got through the story in a day. A quick and compelling read. Utterly heartbreaking too.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for my advance copy of this audiobook
Absolutely terrific debut! I could not put it down. Solid YA mystery with plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Will definitely recommend.
#MeganLally’s mystery debut is twisted and fast-paced with dual points-of-view. It’s both engaging and heartbreaking up until the thrilling end. I’m excited for to see what’s next from this #DebutAuthor!
I really enjoyed this audiobook that was narrated really well by #SophieAmoss & #RobbMoreira.
Thank you, Megan Lally, RBMedia & netgalley for my #audiobook! All opinions are my own.
I am not a big audiobook listener, yet this book had me drawn in from the beginning. I loved this young adult thriller. A couple of times I thought I had it figured it out, yet I did not. What a great debut book for this author!
That’s Not My Name
Megan Lally
A police officer finds a teenager sleeping on the side of the road. She is covered in blood. She has a lump on her head and a broken nose. He takes her to the station where she is reunited with a man claiming to be her father. She has no memory of who she is. The man claims he has been looking for her. He has documents and family pictures showing who she is. He says her name is Mary. Her “father” tells her a story as he drives her home. He suggests she might have had a car accident.
The more time she spends with her “father” the more questions plague Mary. He is controlling, very cautious and domineering. He refuses to allow her to go outside without a cloak.
Lola and Drew had a disagreement. She opened the car door and left after slamming it. Drew thought she would calm down and everything would be ok. But it didn’t happen that way. She disappeared and everyone, the police and his friends, all think he murdered her. He is more concerned with finding Lola. Drew searches for the cabin where Mary lives. Could Mary and Lola be connected.
This is one of those books that grabs your attention from the beginning and refuses to let loose until the very end. You will find yourself guessing, trying to figure out what is real and what isn’t, and each guess will be wrong. The pacing was great. The ending was perfect. It is told from two POV, Drew and Mary. Kudos to author Megan Lally.
This book had me drawn in from the beginning. It’s a dual POV of a true crime drama told from the victims POV and the boyfriend trying to find his missing girlfriend. I listened to this book in a day and a half.
This was such a chilling mature YA thriller, and it had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. I loved the dual points of view, and the twist was a shocker for sure! Very atmospheric which I love.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is such a fast paced and enjoyable YA thriller! I’ve been seeing it compared to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and so I think I need to finally make the time for that series because I truly loved this one!
The pacing of this is perfect to keep you hooked and needing to know what’s happening especially as we swap between two POV.
First POV we have is girl, who is brought to the police station after being found, likely from a car accident, with amnesia from her head injury and soon in comes a man claiming her name is Mary and is her dad and provides all the documentation for the officer so they go home to a remote cabin together where even with her amnesia something just doesn’t feel quite right.
Next, we have the POV of Drew who is the prime suspect in the case of his missing girlfriend Lola with the whole town believing he murdered her. Despite being their only suspect he is passionately looking for her, putting up flyers, and holding tight to his claim of innocence.
I loved the jump back and forth between these pulse pounding points of view and how you are wondering what is going on in both POV as they feel connected, but are they?
I loved the twists and turns and how well the reveal was done because I truly didn’t see it coming as I thought I had it all figured out but was definitely wrong and was pleasantly shocked by the ending!
Truly, if you are looking for a fast paced thriller I highly recommend this one as it kept me at the edge of my seat and enthralled in all the details throughout the whole book!
Thanks to the publisher for my ALC in exchange for my review!
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. I thought the plot was predictable at first but there are some earned twists and turns that keep the plot believable.
The dual perspectives helps the story move along quickly and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Thanks to NetGalley I was able to listen to this audible. I have no words. This was such a fun & fast read for me. Kept me guessing what’s going to happen next, had me on the edge of my seat. For me it started to pick up around 60% & from there I couldn’t stop listening. I honestly didn’t see that turn of events coming. Still processing & trying to hold back the tears from how it ended. Amazing book, amazing author, I loved this so much. Highly recommend this book. Can’t wait to see what else Megan Lally writes.
