The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson is a captivating thriller that delivers everything fans of the genre crave: suspense, secrets, and unexpected twists. Jackson masterfully weaves a tale of mystery surrounding Rachel Price’s sudden return after years of being presumed dead, keeping readers hooked with its unreliable characters and haunting atmosphere.
The narrative is compelling, and the slow unraveling of truths kept me engaged throughout. Jackson’s sharp writing and ability to build tension make it hard to put the book down. While some plot points feel slightly predictable or stretched at times, the emotional depth and strong character work more than make up for it.
Overall, this is an absorbing read with enough surprises to satisfy both loyal fans of Holly Jackson and newcomers to her work.
Thank you Random House Children’s and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Anything Holly Jackson writes, i truly enjoy! Thank you publishers for the ARC. I loved that the main character agreed to be a part of a true crime documentary because the novel read just like a true crime podcast/documentary. I was immediately hooked on the story and could not put the book down!
The twists & turns were great. Believability of the characters kept me reading, trying to decide what was what. I went back & forth between 3 and 4 stars but landed on 4. At times, I felt like it dragged but overall I enjoyed the read.
Good young adult mystery with lots of twists and turns. Recommended for HS readers. Fans of her other books will not be disappointed.
I'm unsure how I feel about this book. While I found the storyline fun and interesting, it was challenging to get into overall. One of the main reasons for this was my dislike for the main character, Bel. I found her rude and arrogant, and I believe that if her personality had been different, the story would have been more compelling. I wish we had seen more interaction between her and Ash, or that Ash could have balanced out Bel's poor attitude, but that didn't happen. A good portion of the beginning and middle felt like filler, making some parts difficult to get through. Despite this, I really enjoyed the end of the book; some twists caught me off guard. I will definitely continue reading Holly Jackson, as I have loved all her other works so far.

I have read and adored all of Holly Jackson's work, and "The Reappearance of Rachel Price" was no different. From the very first page I was hooked. I loved the documentary aspect, and how it meant the story could be told in a different way than other mystery novels. I found the main character slightly annoying, but I think it really helped the story and that the book wouldn't have been the same without Bel being exactly as she was.
At no point during the book did I have any idea what was going to happen next. There were so many plot twists, only one I saw coming. All of them were believable and made sense once laid out in front of me.
Overall, I think this is the perfect book for you if you're falling into a book slump, looking to get out of a book slump, or just wanting something fun and fast paced.
Really enjoyed this book. Holly Jackson has never steered me wrong and I always am excited to hear she has a new book coming out. While this book is aimed at young adults it’s perfect for any age group.
This was a pretty standard mystery by Holly Jackson. Teen is the main character who has a potty mouth. I did not see the ending coming, so that is always a bonus.

takes awhile to get going but ends up being a really solid YA mystery, i was hooked for most of it. but then it just keeps going and going and going - really would’ve been better if it shaved off 100 pages
Love a good disappearance mystery! Bel is 18 and in the midst of being filmed by a documentary crew, 16 years after her mom Rachel went missing without a trace, presumed dead. When Rachel suddenly reappears, Bel and the rest of the Price family will never be the same. But with inconsistencies in Rachel’s story, it’s hard to know if she’s telling the truth as to where she’s been all this time…and whether or not she chose to disappear. Bel is suspicious and makes it her mission to uncover the truth, which is closer to home than she would’ve ever guessed, especially when the cameras are still rolling.
I kept going back and forth as to whether Rachel was telling the truth (and about what) which means Holly Jackson did a great job portraying Bel’s experience (because normally I sus these out pretty quickly). This was a great true crime-style mystery with plenty of drama and twists that kept coming.
Thanks to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest (and delayed) review.
Holly Jackson never misses! Nobody does YA thrillers like her. Another great book that deserves a high-quality screen adaptation!
Thank you to NetGalley, author Holly Jackson, and Random House Children's: Delacorte Press for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!
Sadly, this book wasn't exactly for me, although major props to it getting me out of my reading slump!! I know A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is having its time in the spotlight right now (I still need to watch the show), so I waited a bit to come to her latest book. I read Good Girl's either last year or the year before and loved the first two books before LOATHING the third, so I was very intrigued to see how I'd feel about a new stand-alone. I was obsessed with the premise of this book, and I think that Jackson can truly write a masterfully crafted mystery. I never knew what direction this was going to go, and I appreciate that for YA mysteries, Jackson never writes down just because her audience is teenagers. Her writing is fantastic as well, which is something I greatly enjoyed in the previous trilogy I read. However, in this one, Bel just didn't work for me. I think Jackson's motif is angry girls who don't take shit and are candid regardless of anything else because that's how Pip read in Good Girl's and then Bel was like that times ten. It worked for some aspects of the book, but she was just a really miserable character to read about the majority of the way. The forced romance also added exactly nothing and honestly wasted a bit of time from the overall story, in my opinion. I did enjoy the mystery as a whole, but once everything was revealed, it seemed a bit far-fetched and convoluted that I didn't really know how I felt upon finishing the book. It was more of an "I enjoyed the journey but not the destination" vibe for me, but I do think that's more of a personal opinion rather than an issue with the book. I need to check out Jackson's other stand-alone, and I'm definitely interested in whatever she writes in the future because I think she has some big ideas and creative writing! I just think this was a bit of a miss for me overall.
I absolutely love Holly Jackson’s books, she just knows how to write fictional people in a way that makes you think they’re real.
What a crazy book!!! I had so many wild theories and for some I wasn’t that crazy after all, but I never suspected what actually happened in the end!
My mind was blown once again!
When I saw that Holly Jackson had a new release, I knew I had to read it! I loved the AGGGTM series and the true-crime spin to it. This title has the true-crime mystery aspect as well! My favorite thing about HJ's books are that they read so much like adult thrillers that I forget that I'm reading YA!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review.
I've been a fan of Holly Jackson's work and really enjoyed the Good Girls' Guide series. Here, she introduces another sharp young woman who is interested in digging into hidden secrets around a true crime mystery. The mystery involves Rachel Price, a 27-year-old young mother who goes missing, leaving her baby girl in a running car. Her husband, who was accused and exonerated of her assumed murder, has lived with this for 16 years. A documentary team interested in the subject turns this into a true crime documentary about the unsolved case, bringing the Price family together to film their opinions about the cold case.
The family members seem to be moving on with their lives as the documentary crew films their interviews. But in the middle of a reenactment, Rachel Price reappears after being held captive in a basement for 16 years. She tells the officer she didn’t see her captor’s face, and the person who took her left her in a park, covering her head. As soon as he leaves, she walks 8 hours along the highway to find her way back home.
Questions arise as discrepancies appear in the stories that everyone is telling, and as the story goes on, it's a quick read with some great twists. Definitely enjoyed! My thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for this Advanced Reader Copy. All opinions are my own.
I love Holly Jackson and this book did not disappoint. Great pacing and an intriguing story kept me on the edge of my seat. I was invested from the beginning and couldn’t put it down.
I LOVE Holly Jackson!!!
She honestly is probably my favorite YA author. I’ll read anything she writes!!
Phew this was quite the length of a book. But, as always Jackson always delivers!!!
She brings her readers in and leaves a trail slowly until the final reveal.
Loved it!!!!
4/5
Thanks to the publisher!!
Dare I say this is my favorite Holly Jackson book? The raw EMOTIONS!
I loved the true crime aspect of this one so much! The missing mother who reappears? Goated.
The plot twists and revelations while not entirely surprising or new to the genre, were still so well done.
I am truly a fan of Holly's books and I cannot wait to read her adult book!
If you are into drama, mystery and family secrets this is the book to try!
Thank you to the publisher for a copy!
This book was nuts! I had no idea what was happening until the reveal. The author did an impressive job of changing how you feel about the characters. I look forward to more books my this author!
I think it's easy for thrillers to be tedious/boring, but Holly Jackson never falls into the trap. I definitely had my qualms with the pacing of this one -- while it's quick like a good girl's guide to murder, the main character didn't grab my attention in the same way. I do think Jackson did a good job with this book -- it's a true thriller and a ride from start to finish, even if I found it predictable.
I can't wait to see what else Jackson writes.
