Holly Jackson is very talented when it comes to writing mystery/thrillers. While this one didn’t top AGGGTM for me, it was still good.

This book follows the disappearance of Rachel Price, as her daughter Bel tries to discover what happened. I love most of the other books I’ve read by Holly Jackson but this one was not my personal favorite. I found it kind of boring in the first half but then the story line picked up closer to the end and was more thrilling.

So much happened in this book. My expectations were sky-high—some were met, others not quite—but overall, this was an absolutely captivating experience, one I know I’ll want to revisit again.

There’s just something about Holly Jackson’s writing that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. I can’t pick up one of her books without becoming completely consumed by it. Her prose is sharp, immersive, and atmospheric in a way that makes everything else fade into the background. From the very first page, I knew I was in for a wild ride—and I wasn’t wrong. If I’d had the time, I would’ve devoured it in one sitting. Even when I wasn’t reading, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Her storytelling was etched into my mind.

The heart of this story is Annabel “Bel” Price, and let me tell you—what a phenomenal protagonist. She’s clever, sharp-tongued, and not afraid to speak her mind. Characters like Bel are rare: flawed, complex, emotionally layered, and refreshingly unapologetic. Her voice made me laugh, made me frustrated, made me feel, and I loved how quick-witted she was—always ready with a retort, never backing down. Holly Jackson excels at crafting messy, real characters, and Bel is one of her best yet.

The plot? Impeccably constructed. The way Holly layered clues, red herrings, interviews, transcripts, and notes was masterful. Writing a thriller that keeps readers engaged, constantly second-guessing themselves, and still manages to surprise is no easy feat—and she pulled it off. There’s so much thought behind every twist, every reveal, and even when I thought I had something figured out, she threw me off with another twist I didn’t see coming. The pacing was tight, the suspense was palpable, and the payoff was genuinely satisfying—well, mostly.

The one reason I’m not giving this a full five stars is that I managed to predict one of the major twists a little too early. Instead of feeling clever, it left me slightly underwhelmed. That said, Holly still managed to completely blindside me with a later reveal that made my jaw drop—and made me realize just how well she planted the clues all along.

A quick note for fans of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder: romance is very minimal in this book. There are a few sweet moments and bits of banter, but the focus remains firmly on the mystery. And honestly? It works. The twists, tension, and emotional weight of the story easily carry it without needing a strong romantic subplot.

In the end, The Reappearance of Rachel Price is another gem from Holly Jackson—a compelling, clever, and tightly wound thriller that proves once again why she’s at the top of the YA mystery game.

OKAY, I did like this book but I didn't love it as much as I've loved others by this author. I found it to be something I can recommend to my students and other reader friends who enjoy YA, and it's a solid mystery to solve.

I’ll be honest—I was completely drawn in from the start and really enjoyed it. The story kicked off with a strong, intriguing premise that immediately grabbed my attention. That said, I felt the execution didn’t quite live up to its potential.

The pacing dragged at times, and some of the middle chapters felt like filler. Maybe that’s just because my expectations were different going in. Still, I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an engaging and compelling read. All in all, it was a worthwhile experience.

Determined to figure out the disappearance of her mother, Abel agrees to be a part of true crime documentary about the disappearance of Rachel Price. Bel was only a toddler when her mother vanished even though she was the last person to see her. While filming this documentary Rachel suddenly shows up. We learn more about why Rachel disappeared throughout the story and why she’s suddenly returned.

In typically murder mystery fashion, most of the characters motives and stories were questionable throughout the entire book. The story was really slow paced for my liking but I did enjoy the concept of the story.

I went into this book without any prior knowledge and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was set in my home state of New Hampshire. I always enjoy reading stories set in familiar places, even when they’re fictional. The Reappearance of Rachel Price was well-written, which comes as no surprise given Black’s talent as an author. However, I found the plot unengaging. I’m unsure how this story made it to publication without addressing its major plot holes, which were jarring and made for a confusing reading experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I did not see the ending coming, but when it was revealed it was clear the author had placed many discreet breadcrumbs along the way. From my perspective, the novel was focused on the YA genre, so it did not include a lot of sexual or graphic content, while still having an intense and engaging plot. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers.

This title is wild! This one has lots of twists and turns and feels a little unrealistic at some points (especially the ending). Overall, it definitely kept me engaged (after a somewhat slow start). I enjoyed the layers to the story and to the main character as well. The storyline itself felt sort of tragic even though there was somewhat of a happy-ish ending.

What happens when your missing mother of 16 years just shows back up one day? Where has she been? Who took her? Can you trust her? These are all the questions in Bel's mind. The storyline was suspenseful and the surprise ending was really surprise for me! I love anything Holly Jackson reads. Definitely recommended.

This book kept me guessing and had so many great twists and turns.
It kept me entertained the whole time and I couldn't stop reading, so I could get to the end to see if all my predictions were correct. I wanted to read this book even when I needed to do other things, just to keeping propelling myself toward the ending.

After having read Holly Jackson's Good Girl's Guide to Murder, I very excited to get my hands on her next project and it did not disappoint! Living in the shadow of her mom's disapperance Bel, has tried t leave the past in the past, until her mother Rachel appears. Now Bel has to face the truth that has haunted her for the past 18 years. The book begins slow and then builds into a fast pace novel, it had a great plot line, but is it very different to GGGTM, so do not expect them to be similiar! Loved this novel and cannot wait to see what Holly Jackson does next.

Consistent with her other books, this book was absolutely brilliant. It is so easily to stay hooked and engaged with all of Holly Jackson’s books, and this one was no different. It is an extremely interesting experience to have both comedic value and consistent suspense. One of the most gripping paragraphs I have ever read was in chapter five, “She got into bed, making eye contact with the book waiting for her on top of the nightstand. The plot hadn’t really got going yet-a lot of backstory- but something exciting was going to happen soon. It had to: the title promised it.” I thought this was an extremely clever way to include the title of the book in with the story, as it can be a parallel for the read and the character. Overall, this book was incredible, entertaining, unique, and had an outstanding plot twist. Definitely will be sharing with friends and suggesting to customers at my store.

As a big fan of Holly Jackson's "A Good Girl's Guide the Murder" series, I was very excited to read another piece of work from Jackson. I already knew how twisty her books could be, but was curious to see if she could hold that power of suspense on to the next book and she definitely did.

This book follows the reappearance of Rachel Price after going missing years before and her daughter being completely sketchy about said reappearance. Honestly, I related to Bel. Even as a full-fledged adult, I was suspicious from the beginning and if I were in Bel's shoes, my spidey senses would have been tingling just as fierce. I loved Bel's personality and her way of trying to keep the peace, but also remaining true to herself and her feelings. There weren't a ton of side characters, but the camera man was definitely my favorite and I was cheering for that to become something... best friends, lovers, I don't know. I just loved the dynamic Jackson wrote between the two. Jackson is always really good at building relationships between individuals, platonic and romantic, that dig into your chest and settle.

I think my biggest issue with this book was that it was almost too unbelievable. I felt the police aspect of it was very underdone. I would be shocked if a woman reappeared in her state after all that time and didn't get questioned more than she did. The cops didn't even think twice or check out anything about her. It seemed odd that the only person asking questions was the child in the story. I like my suspense novels to be believable and this one just really had me struggling with whether this could really happen this way or not.

With that said, the ending really redeemed some of the points for me because it was so shocking. I did NOT see the twists (Yes, you heard me. Twists. Plural!) coming. I think I audibly gasped a few times. While the relative believability of the story was low, it definitely kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next and needing to know how it was going to wrap up. I will definitely be picking up the next Holly Jackson book to see what twisty tale she comes up with next. The Reappearance of Rachel Price is a page-turner you will reading with your jaw dropped until the very end.

The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson is a psychological thriller that keeps readers on edge from start to finish. The plot is full of shocking twists that continually subvert expectations, making it impossible to put the book down...there were some predictable moments or twists but Holly Jackson proves once again she’s a master at suspense. The characters are deeply developed, with each one offering unique perspectives that add complexity to the story. This one will not disappoint!

DNF. It just didn’t grip me like her other books do, but I’ll still buy it for my library because her books are popular with the students at my school. I’m not going to share this review publicly. It wouldn’t be fair to the author.

Holly Jackson does it again. This doesn’t fully match the way I enjoyed AGGGTM, but I thought I had this story figured out 472972 times and I never did. Such a fun ride - highly recommend for any that enjoy Holly Jackson’s other works!

I enjoyed The Reappearance of Rachel Price, but it wasn’t Holly Jackson’s best work. The premise was intriguing, and there were some solid twists, but it lacked the same gripping intensity and sharp storytelling that made her previous books stand out. The pacing felt uneven at times, and while the mystery kept me engaged, it didn’t have the same edge-of-your-seat tension I was hoping for. That said, Jackson’s writing is still strong, and fans of her work will likely find it an enjoyable read—it just didn’t quite reach the high bar set by her past books.
