This is one of those books that I thought I had figured out only to find out that I knew nothing all along. The act of reading the book was kind of boring, but I like how it wrapped up.

The Reappearance of Rachel Price has a really compelling central plot—which follows the Price family filming a documentary about Rachel's sudden disappearance more than 16 years ago that is upended when Rachel reappears—and a lead character in Bel. The whole dynamics between Bel and her family, the camera crew, her New Hampshire community and her now-returned mom are really interesting and I was very curious about where this mystery would ultimately lead. However, I was a bit underwhelmed by the conclusion—the third act through the climax gets lost in a bunch of plot twists and some characters spiral into caricature territory in a way I am not quite sure works.
It's a lot of fun, and I think really interesting overall, however, and I really liked what Holly Jackson was trying to do.,

This book felt like a roller coaster but in the best way! I enjoyed the character's emotional journey, her willingness to express doubt, and how strong her friendships are. I would not change anything about this book! Except the length . . . . felt way too long!

A true-crime thriller follows 18-year-old Bel, who is determined to uncover the truth about her missing mother, Rachel Price, who disappeared 16 years ago.

Bel is the only witness but has no memory of her disappearance. The Price family agrees to a true crime documentary, and Bel is eager to end the filming.

However, Rachel reappears, and Bel is skeptical about her story. If Rachel is lying, where has she been all this time, and if she could be dangerous, Bel must uncover the truth about her mother and uncover why she came back from the dead.

I don't know what to say about this other than that it truly is a masterpiece. This is my first thriller of the year, and I am glad I got to read it. Talking or writing about any part of this book will be like giving away spoilers.

Bel was smart, cunning, and kind of pushing away others with a humor that's weird. But as you get to know her, it helps to understand her behavior. She was good. Rachel was strong and a fighter.

I read it in one sitting, turning pages over quickly and not knowing who, how, or when. I was surprised, and I was surprised some more. This was fast paced and unpredictable, with great characters, each bringing something to this entire crime mystery.

The plot was engaging, attention seeking, addicting, and well developed. The twists and turns were mind-boggling. It was about justice, family dynamics, secrets, emotions, and an end that will give you chills. It was too good.

Thank you for providing with the ecopy.

Absolutely enjoyed this read. The best way to explain it is like a roller coaster. You take off and then next thing you’re climbing up and up and then drop fast. Everyone was a suspect but I did NOT see the twists coming. Thank you Holly Jackson you’ve done it again!

Bel has grown up without her mom, Rachel Price. She disappeared when Bel was 2. Now 18, a documentary is being made about their lives. In the midst of it Rachel suddenly appears. Bel doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence that Rachel has shown back up after all this time. Someone is lying and she is determined to find out the whole story.

I love Holly Jackson books! The build up is always great and the twists just keep coming, but it all makes sense!!! This book was no exception and I will recommend it to everyone!!

Thank you to Holly Jackson, Delacorte Press, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The cover of this book instantly drew me in. I knew I had to read it before I even read the blurb.

This book had so many twists and turns. every time I thought I figured it out, something else happened and I was completely wrong. I really liked Bel, she was relatable in so many ways. I liked that this was more than just a normal thriller. It also showed a side of family dynamics.

I will be recommending this book.

I’ve never consumed a Holly Jackson book responsibly and this definitely kept the streak alive. Did I stay up until 3am on a work night to finish this in one sitting? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely!

I adore the way Jackson is able to write so many plot twists into her books that range from “oh yeah saw that coming” to “what the everliving eff?!”. This book kept me on my toes and there was no way I could put it down.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC!

i don’t know if it’s a common occurrence but i didn’t like bel at all until the very end which kinda changed my mind about her, what made me realize that she’s a teenager and of course she’s going to think as a teenager and i at 27 years old need to be more empathetic towards that teenager feeling to rebel against everything that we all had at some point.

plot wise i really enjoyed it, i don’t read mysteries that often but when i do i always pick my unsub on the very first chapter and this time i didn’t miss, although i did doubt it at some point but it all came back to that person so it was just perfect.

don’t get me wrong, knowing who was it doesn’t get the excitement out of the book for me, i enjoy it more, because i finally had the whole story and boy it was a good one, realistic and probably, if you think about it, more common than what we want to believe.

3.5 stars.

thank you netgalley and the publisher for this advance copy in exchange of a honest review.

I'm a huge fan of Holly Jackson so I figured I'd love this book, and I absolutely did. It was crazy good and had so many amazing twists. The relationships that Bel had to navigate through while going through such a shock was fun to read about, and all the stuff revealed at the end was wild.

At first I wanted to say this book is entirely too long but wow, my head is still spinning after finishing this book. Holly Jackson has a knack for giving you a giant plot twist towards the end but then not quickly ending the book. I love that there's so much information after the big twist that adds even more to it.

This book was just phenomenal. My jaw dropped multiple times while reading this book, I teared up, I was nervous, I was just a ball of emotions while reading this. I loved the character Bel and her smart*ss, take no sh*t personality. I loved every interaction between her and Ash, they had me laughing multiple times. I loved all of the twists, I loved the ending, I loved the family drama, there's not a single thing about this book I didn't like. If you enjoyed Holly Jackson's Good Girl series definitely pick this book up. Even if you didn't enjoy that series you should still pick this book up because even though I loved the Good Girl books this book completely blew them out of the water.

Holly Jackson's "The Reappearance of Rachel Price" is a thrilling ride that dives into the emotional turmoil of a missing mother's return. Told from the perspective of 18-year-old Bel, the story unfolds as a true-crime documentary crew dredges up the cold case of her mother's disappearance. Just as the past resurfaces, Rachel reappears with an unbelievable story, forcing Bel to question everything she thought she knew.

The strength of this novel lies in its captivating mystery. Jackson masterfully weaves a web of clues and red herrings, keeping readers guessing about Rachel's true fate. Bel's internal struggle adds depth to the narrative, as she grapples with conflicting emotions – relief, suspicion, and a yearning for the normalcy she never had. The novel excels at portraying the complexities of family dynamics, particularly the fractured relationship between Bel and her mother.

While some might find the ending a tad ambiguous, it leaves a lasting impression, prompting readers to ponder the concept of truth and the lengths we go to for family. If you're looking for a young adult mystery with a strong emotional core and a twisty plot, "The Reappearance of Rachel Price" is a book you won't want to put down.

Holly Jackson is the queen of YA thrillers and this one is no different!

We have all read stories in which a character is missing, but what happens when that missing character returns early on in the story? Holly Jackson creates a tangled web in "The Reappearance of Rachel Price" that will leave readers guessing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one and cannot wait for whatever new story Holly Jackson creates next.

This is a real page turner and I am so thankful to have received this early copy from NetGalley, Holly Jackson, and Delacorte Press.

I absolutely loved this book that one one part detective story, one part true crime inspired, and one part crazy family drama.
Bel was a great main character who was (rightfully) suspicious when her mother Rachel, who had been missing for years, suddenly popped back up right when a true crime documentary was filming about her disappearance. Is it Rachel? If so, where was she? And if so, what is happening here?

Fans of Good Girls Guide to Murder will LOVE this book, love Bel, and love trying to figure this diabolical mystery out!

Thank you Netgalley and Delacorte Press for allowing me to read and review The Reappearance of Rachel Price! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow, just wow!

The amount of plot twists Holly Jackson hits the reader with is insane and pure genius. I wish I could see the cork board of red lines and evidence of how she outlines her stories because I am always amazed with the way she reveals the unexpected truths in the end. The emotional rollercoaster ride Jackson put Bel Price through is what I felt as I'm reading this well thought out thriller. I could feel the intensity rising and the paranoia setting in as Bel tries to figure out what the heck is going on when her mother reappears from a sixteen year disappearance.

A camera crew is hired to film a documentary on the dusty case of what happened sixteen years ago when Rachel Price disappeared and left baby Bel alone in the back seat of a running car. Bel doesn't remember anything, only knowing what was said by the family members around her. When Rachel suddenly appears out of nowhere during a filming session, Bel doesn't trust Rachel's story and decides to take it upon herself to do what the police couldn't do, find out the truth of what happened and how Rachel is alive. Lies and secrets are what kept the family together but will finding out the truth tear them apart?

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is one of my favorite murder mysteries of all time. I also enjoyed the twisty and wild ride of Five Survive and Killjoy, the AGGGTM novella. The Reappearance of Rachel Price starts off slow in the beginning but once Rachel reappears is when, in my opinion, the story kicks off running. We follow Bel as she begins her descent into a sort of madness for the truth so she can prove Rachel's story is false and to protect her father from a woman Bel doesn't even know.

Bel partners, reluctantly, with one of the camera crew members, Ash Maddox. She uses him to capture footage of her interviewing suspects and doing somewhat illegal investigation. There is a bond between them and I do love their banter but I feel like the romance wasn't needed. It gave off the impression of being thrown in there as a last minute decision. Their romance was never fleshed out enough to warrant one especially with how this book ends. Personally, it would have been so much better if they were just friends.

Holly Jackson's storytelling captured my attention and it didn't let go until the last word. I enjoyed following Bel through all the twists and turns, the lies and the mind blowing reveals. The Reappearance of Rachel Price is one heck of a mystery and I loved every minute of it.

Such a fun book! I really love Holly Jackson’s writing style and how she paces her books. I received this as an ARC, and was bummed to see that there weren’t as much mixed media aspects as she has in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Although it could have been due to it being an ARC and not a final edit.

The overall story was so much fun, I enjoyed the documentary crew aspect of it. There were so many parts that my jaw was dropped and I kept guessing what would happen next. The big reveal was quite the twist that I didn’t see coming, however it felt like it just kept going and going. One twist on top of another at a really fast rate which I wasn’t a fan of. Parts of the twist felt forced and a little over the top.

Overall I really enjoyed this book!

Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 (4.5-5)
Holly Jackson has delivered again with a great mystery that will keep you hooked until the very end!

Bel’s life has always been defined by Rachel Price, her mom, who disappeared 16 years ago and abandoned Bel in the backseat of a car on a cold winter’s night. But Bel is ok without her mom—without anyone, really. All she needs is her dad, who she knows will never leave her, and her cousin Carter, who’s almost like a sister. When Bel’s dad agrees for the family to participate in a documentary about Rachel’s disappearance, old wounds and family drama resurface. Things get even more complicated when Rachel suddenly reappears on the side of the road, changing Bel’s life forever, again. Rachel tells her story to the police, and Bel’s not sure what to trust—the mom who left her behind all those years ago, or her own instincts telling her that no one is to be trusted.

>> What I loved: Jackson is an excellent writer, particularly in the mystery genre. She has a great sense of timing and pacing, and she shows that off again in *The Reappearance of Rachel Price.* I also disagree with some other reviews that things come out of nowhere in this book—I think Jackson is great at planting seeds that don’t feel too obvious but are gratifying when they are woven back into the story later. The character work was really strong here as well, and I was compelled by the whole cast of characters involved in this story between Bel’s family and the film crew.
>> What I didn’t love: This was a really strong read for me, but a minor gripe is that I wish we would have gotten more with the film crew, and more time developing Bel’s friendship with Ash in particular!

I highly recommend this book to Young Adult and Adult mystery readers, and I know this one will be flying off the shelves at my school library. I had almost not forgiven Jackson for the way the AGGGTM ended, but I’m so glad I picked this book up, and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
