I wanted to read this book because I absolutely loved A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. While, in my opinion, this book didn't quite live up to that series, it wasn't as good as those.

This book has the "detective work" that AGGGTM had. However, there was a lot of repetitiveness and I found some parts to be boring. Probably at about 70% into the book, things started to pick up. With all the build up and the detective work leading up to the end, the ending felt a bit rushed.

Holly Jackson did a great job throwing me off as to who was responsible for Rachel's disappearance. I had a hunch who was behind it but I didn't know how it would play out.

I didn't particularly like Bel. I completely understand her life was thrown completely off when Rachel returned, but she was SO self-absorbed she didn't pay attention anything going on around her. If she had stopped and talked to some of her family members, she could have gotten some answers a lot sooner.

Overall, I give it 4 stars. It was a solid story but it didn't live up to my expectations.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. The Reappearance of Rachel Price is out on Tuesday.

The Reappearance of Rachel Price stays to true to Holly's style. Full of twists and turns with a mystery to solve. Rachel Price disappeared without a trace, leaving her 2 year old daughter in the backseat of her car. Now 16 years later Rachel magically reappears just as a documentary is being made about her. Where was she, what happened, how is she here????

The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. Some where predictable. Overall I enjoyed this book.

I struggled to get into this book, it didn’t really capture my attention until about 105 pages in. Once I got there, the story was very good! Lots of unexpected plot twists. I liked this book, just wish it was 75 pages shorter.

Thank you so much for the ARC copy!

3.5/4 ⭐️

Overall, I enjoyed this book by Holly Jackson. I really like it a lot more than her last release. I enjoyed the elements of the documentary and seen them follow Bels family around and their continued struggles after 16 years of Rachel be missing.

I enjoyed the dynamics up to when Rachel appeared once Rachel Price had reappeared The pacing was a little off. There's a lot of set up to try to make Rachel and unreliable narrator so you're always kind of question guessing like what her motives were. However, sometimes this made the book very repetitive and slow in the middle.

I was truly surprised by the ending however, there is some decisions made and character developments that I don't know I didn't really connect with. Some of the reactions from some of the characters just didn't seem quite believable or realistic, but it was definitely a surprise, and it was very twisty.

I would recommend this to anyone as a fan of Holly Jackson, or young adult mystery thrillers. It was a fun read, and it was very approachable.

Thank you to NetGalley and DelCorte press. My review is voluntarily my own.

Overall rating: 4.5/5

Ratings:
1. **Plot and Storytelling:** 4/5 Overall, the book was excellently plotted, though I found it to be unnecessarily long at times. Nevertheless, the story was well told, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
2. **Characterization:** 5/5 The female main character drove me nuts, and if you read the book, you'll understand why. Despite this, I found the characters enjoyable, and the growth of the female main character was particularly impressive.
3. **Writing Style:** 4/5 I love Holly Jackson’s writing; she did a great job with "AGGGTM," and I believe she has another hit on her hands with this book. The narrative was detailed and expertly woven, making for an overall enjoyable read. However, I did feel that the novel was slightly longer than necessary, resulting in some slow spots. But that's my only criticism.
4. **Originality:** 5/5 I've never come across anything quite like it. Most investigative work in thrillers doesn’t revolve around trying to prove what happened to someone who's still here. It offered a unique perspective, which I found fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed.
5. **Emotional Impact and Resolution:** 4.5/5 I loved rooting for the characters and was completely drawn into the mystery. The twist at the ending took me by surprise, although looking back, there were hints, which didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book in any way.

I highly recommend picking up this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's a fantastic addition to my collection of Holly Jackson's works.

If you enjoyed this book I recommend you read “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson. This YA mystery follows a high school student named Pippa as she reopens a murder case for a school project. As she delves deeper into the investigation, she uncovers shocking truths about her small town.
Another suggestion is “The Inheritance Games” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This is the first book in a thrilling mystery series about a teenage girl named Avery who inherits a massive fortune from a mysterious billionaire. To claim her inheritance, Avery must solve a series of puzzles and uncover the truth about her benefactor’s past.

YA thrillers are made for me. Not too scary, not too raunchy. And Holly Jackson is not afraid to be unhinged in her plot lines. At not point did I know where this was going. Almost more impressive though was the fact that every chapter left me feeling unsettled and tense. Hollys writing style evokes such strong emotions and even though I got annoyed with Bel sometimes, I still connected with her so much. Definitely recommend this one.

I loved the is book. The twist was so good and I loved watching her unfold the mystery and find out the secrets. The FMC was so smart and easy to relate to which made the book much more enjoyable and easy to get into. It was also fast paced and started right away. It got my attention and kept it. I also liked that it wasn’t too long but also not too short. I loved the plot and how it unfolded. I am so grateful for this arc.

Holly Jackson really knows how to write a thriller. This was such a page turner with some really satisfying twists - I love when all the pieces come together and I figure something out moments before the big reveal. Jackson also does a fantastic job making her stories character and relationship driven and exploring the human element of every mystery. I did feel that Bel's turn in the third act was a little extreme, and I wish we had gotten more bread crumbs early on that she and Rachel did have a real connection despite how hard Bel was fighting it. It also felt like Jackson did not know what to do with Sherry and her resolution didn't sit particularly well with me. This wasn't quite as successful as AGGGTM, but I will read anything Holly Jackson writes.

What would you do if your mom had been missing and presumed dead for 16 years showed back up very much alive? Del has grown up under the shadow of her mother's disappearance. She was the baby that was left behind, and now she is the teen who has learned to rely on herself and her dad for everything. Now Del has questions- where has mom been, and can she ever be trusted?
Holly Jackson has once again crafted a twisty, turny story with complicated characters and blurred lines between good and evil. I've loved all of her books to date, and this is another thrilling page turner!

🎥 Bel Price has been followed her entire life by the mystery of her mother’s disappearance. When she was only 2, she was found in her Rachel Price’s car on the side of the road, with Rachel herself nowhere to be found. Was she taken? Did she choose to abandon her life? No one knows for sure…until THE Rachel Price herself shows up at Bel’s home, bloodied and disheveled, with a story about being kidnapped and kept in a man’s basement for 16 years. Something about this story doesn’t seem right to Bel. With the help of a film crew assistant working on a documentary about Rachel, Bel sets out to find the truth about her reappearance.

I absolutely devoured this book. I was on the edge of my seat with the plot twists and turns and the novel kept me guessing all the way up to the reveal. Bel is a smart, witty heroine and watching her suspicions grow as she tries to get to the truth was such a wild and fun ride. This book delves into family relationships and the strain that secrets can have. Holly Jackson is a master at “plotty, twisty” novels (as the head documentarian would say) and this was such a great read.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for early access to this title!

If you loved "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" by Rachel Price especially the murder mystery vibes with podcast and school project elements. You will love this one! It's setting is a true crime documentary and Rachel makes you feel like you are with the filming crew so to speak! This gave me chills! You always guess the ending or plot twists and every single book Holly writes she will ruin everything you think possible. True holly fashion this has romance, family, and so many mysteries to unravel in so few words! It will leave you with so much you'll have to reread it again like I did! Thank you so much Holly Jackson, the publisher, and Netgalley for this book!

Rachel Price is the subject of a new documentary. She's been missing for sixteen years, and was taken from her car that was left on the side of the road one snowy night. Eighteen year old Annabel is now being asked to remember the impossible, as the 2 year old daughter left in the back of the car. The documentary is going fairly well, until Rachel Price reappears. And with her, lots of inconsistencies about her story that makes Bel suspicious.

The book really got going about half-way in, requiring Bel to use her wits to uncover the truth. The ending is pure Holly Jackson. I think we can safely say the theme of vigilante justice is Jackson's style, and if you go in knowing that, you're going to love this book.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder series but this is my new favorite from Holly Jackson!

A captivating story with lots of detail so while it is easy to binge, it also isn’t over too quickly. It is full of theories into the disappearance of Rachel Price and as the clues start to come together, the reappearance is just as mysterious. Often thrillers will throw out clues to distract you from guessing the truth and this one didn’t feel like that at all. Every clue and moment had a purpose that connected without being predictable.

I don’t often think of character growth when it comes to thrillers as normally characters unravel when the twist is revealed but this book had a lot of characters that felt dynamic.

Definitely loved this one! Totally worth reading if you liked AGGGTM but also just if you like thrillers in general.

Great book! I really enjoyed the premise of this story. In true Holly Jackson fashion, she does an excellent job of building up the suspense. The book kept me hooked and even shocked me a little with the ending. I would recommend!

Good, not great. This book seemed to drag on a bit for me. The last 30-40% was pretty fast paced and interesting and plot twisty, just took awhile to get there in my opinion. And a bit if an outlandish like obviously fictional happy ending. But like I said good not great 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

So, I have no idea how Holly Jackson has done it again, but we are once again thrown into a mystery that is so full of twists and turns that it will truly have you question: would you really do anything for your family?
The Reappearance of Rachel Price follows the Price family, in which the mother, Rachel, has suddenly disappeared 16 years prior, leaving no evidence or a single trace of her whereabouts. Now, her daughter Annabel, referred to as Bel in the book, and her family have signed up to be a part of a documentary that follows how life is without Rachel and any theories they may have. The last thing they thought would happen is to have Rachel reappear…
Bel, while apprehensive at first, has only ever had her father (as well as her aunt, uncle, cousin, and grandfather). When Rachel reappears with no answers as to where she has been for the last 16 years, she starts to question the validity of her kidnapping…or did she run away? No one knows 🤷‍♀️
This book had me fully hooked in trying to solve why Rachel just suddenly disappeared. And then when she suddenly showed up out of the blue while they were filming this documentary on her disappearance? Even more questions! The amount of twists and turns that had me so thrown into what was going on truly had me hooked on the story. I mean, I didn’t even come close to guessing the real outcome.
Side note: The fact that I was gasping over all the reveals promptly resulted in me pitching the book to my mother (other fellow mystery book reader), who will now be reading the book after me 😂
Overall, this is not a book you want to miss. Holly Jackson has a wonderful way of writing that fully draws you into the crime, leaving you solving the cases alongside the characters. I will say that, unlike her other books, while there is a side plot of romance, it doesn’t go very far, but honestly, it kinda worked. The crime had me fully distracted in finding the truth. This one is getting full stars, and I, as always, will be looking forward to what her writes next 😉

4.5 rounded up. PHEW THIS WAS A RIDE.
I messed HARD with this!!!!!!! More new adult than young adult, but I loved every minute. Holly Jackson is BACK, baby!

Bels mom disappeared 16 years ago. Suddenly, when a doc crew comes to town, she reappears!! As Bel has immense distrust in her mother, she starts following her around, digging into the past, & uncovering some family secrets.

I absolutely loved this thriller. It was twisty, it was so many strings to follow, and so many red herrings. But were they red herrings???!!!!!!! It all felt very murder board-y, and all of the secrets that eventually came to light were amazing. I think my only complaint is that I wish there was more to the planned murder instead of "oh she wants out so I won't let her out". I feel it could've been more devious. However, still such a good thriller! One I will be keeping for the shelf!

I freaking called it! You thought you knew, but you will be wrong.

Honestly, at the first 20%ish pages it really didn't hold my attention. However, when Rachel Price reappeared, it became so fast-paced and page-turner, I literally chose this over sleep and work lol. It's that addicting.

We follow Bel and she's the daughter of a mother who disappeared suddenly with no traces and that shocked the whole world. We saw her struggles and her issues with life. I love that it focused on the daughter and how the disappearance affected her the most.

I'm so glad to be right, and I'm so glad to be surprised with the plot twists upon plot twists. I had fun with the overall reading experience. It was so good, like an episode in Criminal Minds. Literally feels like I'm watching a movie that you just can't stop.

I love AGGGTM but omg, I think I found my new favorite Holly Jackson book. I love it so much, it's gonna be one of my fave reads this year, for sure.

Holly Jackson can do no wrong and I will read anything she writes.
