WOW! Holly Jackson does it again.
Holly will always be an auto buy author for me. She reminds me how much I love a thriller mystery. Will be purchasing a hard copy for my shelf.
“The Reappearance of Rachel Price” is so good and I could not put it down or stop thinking about it. This super fast paced novel had my head turning with all the twist and turns. Bel and her family are being interviewed for a documentary on the disappearance of her mom. Rachel Price is the mom who goes missing aka vanishes in to thin air 16 years earlier. Then, one day Rachel just randomly shows up while the documentary is filming. The family should be so happy and excited to finally have Rachel back. Except, her daughter Bel can’t buy the story her “mom” is spinning. Bel is out for blood to prove her mom is lying….
My little Dateline heart couldn't take it! I had to know the ending.
Thank you so much to Random House Childrens, Holly Jackson, and NetGalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.
Holly Jackson has done it again! She has a true talent of creating murder/disappearance mystery books that hook you right away and I loved the idea of a documentary being used as a means to solve the mystery. I loved Bel as a character and the other supporting characters were all great as well. I did not see the twists coming, which made me keep reading to figure out if Rachel was someone to be trusted or someone with something to hide. While I enjoyed the story and how it ended, there were a few things that I wasn't a fan of. These involve some spoilers so I won't get into detail but certain circumstances reminded me too much of the ending of As Good as Dead, which was my least favorite of her last series. Also, how a character learns something and then completely discards the people involved. While I get the betrayal, it seemed like the reaction of a character in a book, not a realistic one. Overall, it was an enjoyable read for fans of Jackson or murder/disappearance stories. I look forward to more of her one-off titles!
A quick and decent YA thriller. Not my favorite of Holly Jackson’s books but still a good read.
Bel (our FMC has a super hard time adjusting to the reappearance of her mom (Rachel) who went missing 16 years ago. To be fair, I think we would al have a hard time if we went through that. Add in that she shows back up during the filming of a documentary about her disappearance? Well that is downright unbelievable!
There are quite a few twists and turns that you probably won’t see coming. I won’t mention them as I don’t want to cause any spoilers.
All in all a solid read, and worth a buy for sure!
I received a ARC of this title, app opinions are my own.
*Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the arc copy in exchange for an honest review.*
After reading the author's series, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, I had high hopes and expectations for this book because I knew that she could craft a great story. I was not disappointed, but I also wasn't wow'ed.
I did really enjoy this book and all the secrets. The characters were written well. They all had their own personalities and I was suspicious of everyone because they all seemed a little shady. Once I got to the end, I could see why everyone got weird when Rachel reappeared.
The author even managed to make me feel suspicion toward Carter, who wasn't born when Rachel disappeared, because she was acting strange.
The plot moved at a decent pace. Bel uncovered a lot of secrets with Ash in a pretty short time. There did seem to be a little pause near the middle of the book where I slightly lost interest/got bored because nothing was happening, but it picked up again real quick.
This was such an interesting book. I really enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on with Rachel right along with Bel. I also did not trust anything Rachel said or did.
My biggest qualm with the book is that no one seemed to have any emotions. When Rachel came back, it didn't seem like she was torn up about being held captive (which is why I was so suspicious of her). And the ending, with what happened, you would think there would have been some real heavy emotions, but it seemed like it barely bothered anyone. I know this was a thriller/mystery, but I still wanted there to be more emotion.
I am excited for this book to come out so others can enjoy it. I can't wait to see what the author does next.
Holly Jackson is known for her A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series and is a must-read author for me.
When the book starts, Bel is being interviewed for a documentary about the disappearance of her mother, even though she was too young to remember the day her mother disappeared. But then Rachel Price comes back from being presumed dead, and Bel doesn’t quite believe the story her mother tells. Everyone else seems to believe Rachel, so it’s up to Bel to investigate and find out the truth.
This book caught my attention right away. There’s family drama and mystery. The characters are interesting. The twists and turns so good. If you like YA mystery, then read this!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC! I knew I was going to love this book because the author is incredible, but this exceeded my expectations. Such an amazing story that I couldn’t put down! The characters were so fun, the mystery was gripping, and I definitely didn’t see the twist coming. Highly recommend!
Holly Jackson fans will want to read this book. This is a great YA thriller mystery book. I fell in love with the main character, Bel and had thoughts of how this book was going to go and then WHAM! totally twisted and turned in a different direction. This is a great book with a great storyline! Thanks NetGalley and RandomHouse for allowing me to the read the ARC.
I truly enjoyed this book and in true Holly Jackson fashion it was fast paced and had multiple unexpected twists. While as the Reappearance isn't a spoiler it still comes in a mysterious way and makes you second guess everyone and everything. Bel has a great character arch and really works through so much during this and wants the truth about what really happened to her Mom for that time and who was involved. Great book! I will definitely be recommending this to friends and my students.
One thing about Holly Black, she will suck you into a book and you simply WILL NOT be able to put it down. Once again, she nailed this story.
Following Annabel (Bel) Price, our main character, as she starts the story filming a documentary covering the mysterious disappearance of her mother. A body was never found, and Rachel Price seems to have vanished into thin air. That is, until one day she reappears 16 years after her disappearance.
The plot and twists were so good that I truly believe Holly Black is a master at this genre. I had theories on theories on theories and they kept being disproved at every turn. There were even crumbs of romance, but much less than her previous works.
Overall I had a great time devouring this book, and think readers should definitely be in line at their local bookstores April 2nd! This is one you’re not going to want to have FOMO for.
*Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's publishing for this arc in exchange for an honest review.*
Many thanks to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for granting me the ARC of THE REAPPEARANCE OF RACHEL PRICE in exchange for this review.
This is the new Holly Jackson book. It doesn't need a lot of hype, but hype it shall receive from me and everyone else who reads it. As a character in one of my favorite movies, HEAT, said "This s*it practically sells itself."
What to expect? The usual things you get from a Holly Jackson book: clever teen girl MC, a mystery-within-a-mystery, twisty surprises, and charming and supportive side characters. If you loved A GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER, you will definitely love THE REAPPEARANCE OF RACHEL PRICE.
However, the mystery and reasons for said mystery feel more mature than they did in the AGGGTM and FIVE SURVIVE. Jackson is growing as a storyteller and narrative puzzle weaver with each book she publishes. This is best exhibited through Bel, the main character, who has the rough edges Pip picked up in AS GOOD AS DEAD already part of her character from the get-go. She's harsh and sarcastic, wearing the trauma she's already picked up in her young life on her sleeve from page 1.
I am a little confused about some of the reasoning behind certain character motivations, which I can't say without giving anything away, but whatever. Not everything needs to be perfectly logical to be enjoyed. And enjoy THE REAPPEARANCE OF RACHEL PRICE I did, especially the last few chapters. Might have needed a tissue or two, to be honest.
Looking forward to seeing Holly Jackson receive more praise for this book and all the books TK.
If you’re a fan of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”, then you are going to love “The Reappearance of Rachel Price”. And to that point, I may have even enjoyed it more than AGGGTM.
This is the story of Rachel Price, who reappears after disappearing under suspicious circumstances 16 years earlier. It just so happens to coincide with a documentary that is being filmed with her family about her disappearance. Reappearing shocks her family to their core, but no one more than her 18 year old daughter, Bel, who is more than a little resentful since she always suspected that her Mom left willingly all those years ago. Bel is determined to get to the bottom of what really happened to her Mom 16 years ago and why she came back, and more importantly, get her out of her and her dad’s life for good.
Twists and turns and even a little side love story abound in this fun, fast-paced suspense! You’ll want to grab this one when it hits shelves on April 2nd, 2024! Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s | Delacorte Press for allowing me to read an arc of this book.
This book was so good from the very first chapter! There were shocking twists throughout the book.. not just one giant one at the end which I appreciated very much. Each character in this story had their own unique personalities and I loved that. This book was not a hard read at all and definitely was a page turner. I loved how everything just fell into place and worked out in the end. Definitely recommend this book!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Thank you to Penguin Random House for the ARC!
I loved loved loved 'A Good Girl's Guide to Murder' so I had high expectations for this one! And it honestly delivered! Overall would recommend, especially if you like YA Thrillers!
What I liked:
I really liked the mother-daughter relationship aspect especially since it was so different than a lot of other books with Bel not trusting Rachel AT ALL.
It was super twisty and I definitely was not expecting the way it panned out whatsoever!!!
I liked how the romance-ish plot was very small and ended with Bel realizing it's not the end of the world when people leave.
The documentary idea was super cool and was glad that we came full circle with them wrapping the production at the end!
What I didn't like:
It felt like it was never explained WHY Bel compulsively steals things??? Like I understood it was some trauma response and wanting to be in control, but I feel like we needed more back story to how that developed/started.
The constant reference to the pit/knot in her gut whenever literally anything happened, also started to annoy me with just how often Bel brought it up.
Favorite Quotes:
"Bel smiled, watching them together, this small mother-daughter moment in this dark and wild place that broke a family and saved another. And the moon had seen it all."
"tears that felt happy but tasted sad"
I have been so excited for the release of this book! Ever since it was announced, I have been counting down the days and when I came across it on NetGalley I immediately requested it. Thank you so much NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this one early. This book did not disappoint. The subtle clues, the mystery, the twists, the characters were all amazing! Holly has such a talent for writing books that lure you in and not want to come back to reality until the very last page has been read. If anyone is wondering if they should give this book a read the answer is YES!! I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Thank you so much, Netgalley and Delacorte Press for an ARC of this novel. Holly Jackson has done it again! This novel was filled with twists and turns and left me gasping out loud as secrets were revealed. My students have been counting down to the release of this book and I immediately preordered a copy for my classroom library. You can't say no to a plot this propulsive and characters that make you question everything.
This was such a good story, but it dragged on so unnecessarily several points throughout the book. It took awhile for it to pick up but once the story started the characters definitely kept me hooked in the story. Overall the book was hard to get through because of all the filler information and unnecessary side stories, but the main story was really captivating and made it worth getting through to the end. The twists were unexpected and I loved all of them.
build up had just the right pacing, then about a quarter into it i was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put it down.. I really enjoyed this story. Every chapter left me choosing a new villain. The main character, Miss. Annabel, irked my nerves and warmed my heart all at the same time throughout this story bc she was so conflicted and fighting trauma her mother's disappearance left her with.. it caused her to put up this cold front. There were so many twists! I predicted one but bc they all were so layered and well plotted, I wasn't mad at it. By the end there was no stone left unturned and my head was spinning.
Thank you immensely to NetGalley and Random House for this ARC. I was hooked from the very first page. I could not read fast enough! Bel was a quirky character to follow through the mystery of Rachel’s disappearance and reappearance. What an incredibly wild ride that was! An absolute treat to read. My heart is still pounding!
I am a huge Holly Jackson fan but this book missed the mark a bit.
The storyline looked very interesting-a mother returning after going missing 16 years ago and family secrets.
The first 50% of the book was slow. Bel’s character was unlikable and just didn’t seem like a realistic portrayal of a daughter who lost her Mom. Her immediate distrust when her Mom returned didn’t make sense either. The characters, in general, were not fully built which made the decisions made later in the book very odd.
I don’t want to add any spoilers, but my hope for the book returned at the 50% mark but then all the odd decisions and activity at the end of the book just missed the mark and seemed very unrealistic.
I am having a hard time writing this review without adding spoilers but if you have to choose a Holly Jackson book to read, I would recommend choosing one of her other awesome books.
Rachel Price is dead. Right??
The Reappearance of Rachel Price is a gripping rollercoaster of mystery, deception, and familial secrets that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Holly Jackson delivers a masterpiece filled with twists and turns that will leave readers questioning everything they thought they knew.
Bel's journey to uncover the truth about her mother's disappearance is both heart-wrenching and exhilarating, and the reappearance of Rachel Price adds a layer of complexity that is both chilling and utterly captivating. Jackson's storytelling prowess shines through every page, making this a must-read for fans of suspenseful thrillers. I couldn't put it down!
