This book was a great mystery. If you’re someone who is into lifetime movies about people who get kidnapped then reappear this book is for you! The Reappearance of Rachel Price is the story of a Wife/mom that mysteriously vanished from the mall without a trace. Her car was later found with her 2 year old daughter inside but no trace of her. 16 years later a production team is making a documentary of her family and life, when Rachel suddenly reappears, but all is not as it seems. What happened 16 years ago? What secrets does the price family have? If you loved the pacing of A Good Girls Guide to Murder then you’ll love this book too!
At this point I just realized that 'Thriller/mystery' from western isnt suprising at all for me. No offense. Cause I already found another and more thrilling books than this. The plot-twist is just so so nothing awesome yet I wanna appreciate Holly Jackson's writing style cause it is so damn page turning so I could finish this ASAP.
However, thank you so much to Penguin Random House for proving an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of “The Reappearance of Rachel Price” by Holly Jackson for a review.
I just stayed up past my bedtime to finish this, and wow. I’ve been hooked on Holly Jackson since the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy, and she hasn’t disappointed me yet.
This had twists. It had turns. There were surprises and shocks. I have no notes.
Run (don’t walk) when this releases in April (2024).
this was on my list of highly anticipated 2024 releases and i was absolutely stoked to get an advanced reader’s copy. i absolutely loved this book. i can absolutely see this book being turned into a limited series tv show.
“the reappearance of rachel price” focuses on Bel and her extended family as they participate in a documentary surrounding the mystery of Rachel Price, her mother who disappeared sixteen years ago without a trace. but one day, rachel reappears and her story has so many discrepancies that Bel is immediately suspicious. Bel decides she needs to find out the truth about her mother’s disappearance, and reappearance.
i was absolutely hooked from the very first page and couldn’t put my kindle down. it was literally attached to my hand for the past two days, trying to piece together the mystery right along with the characters.
i loved how each character had such a unique personality. even though we immediately got introduced to so many characters up front, it was easy to keep them all separate in my mind. i loved Bel’s personality the most. she was snarky and funny and slightly unpleasant at times.
sometimes i was confused by the motives and actions of some of the characters, but the book wrapped everything up nicely at the end. my mind is still spinning though. the last 25% of the book was a whirlwind of betrayals, reveals, and emotions. i could not have guessed where it was going but so pleasantly surprised by a book where i did not immediately guess all the plot twists.
i 1000% recommend this book to anyone who loves flawed characters, complicated family dynamics, and fast-paced thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat.
Thank you to Holly Jackson, Delacorte Press, and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Holly Jackson strikes again! Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me access to this ARC!
I was so excited to find out that Jackson was releasing another book, given how much i loved her AGGGTM series, and this one definitely did not disappoint. This novel follows an 18 year old Bel as she finds herself being the subject of a documentary about her missing mother. Things only take a turn for the worst, however, once her mother returns from the dead after being missing for 16 years.
This book had me captivated from the very beginning. The way it was set up with the documentary was very unique and compelling. I also quite liked Bel. Headstrong, rude, and just downright stubborn female leads are my kryptonite, and Bel was all of these things, while simultaneously maintaining a likability that kept her readable.
Jackson forever remains the queen of the YA mystery, releasing a book that is packed with insane twists that I never would have guessed. The mother/ daughter relationship and development is also very eye opening and explores how complex motherhood truly is.
Loved this book!
"It was easy to push people away when you knew how."
We follow Annabel Price (Bel), who was only two years old when her mother, Rachel Price, disappeared. She's the last person who saw her before she mysteriously disappeared. But here's the thing, all she knows about the case and that day is what she's pieced together from other people's memories. So, get this: they're making a true crime documentary about her mom's disappearance, and guess what? Rachel Price shows up out of nowhere!
“The people who loved you, the ones who really cared, they would always come back. Sometimes, they even came back from the dead.”
As a big fan of Holly Jackson's writing, I had high hopes for this book. But unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. I'll go into brief detail about what I enjoyed and what didn't quite work for me. Let's start with our main character, shall we?
Bel was seriously fearless when it came to speaking her mind! I loved how her mouth had no brakes and she would say exactly what was on her mind. Getting to know her throughout this was a pleasure! It's was refreshing to see a character who isn't afraid to be honest and upfront. Her unfiltered thoughts and outspoken nature added an extra layer of authenticity to her character.
At first, I wasn't sure if the book really needed that romantic element, but then I found myself totally rooting for it! It added this extra layer of excitement that kept me hooked.
So, looking back, the story had a lot of promise with a solid mystery at its core. But, I gotta be honest, the slow pacing and repetitive narration kinda took away from the tension and suspense. However, around the halfway point, things started to pick up with all those twists and turns, and let me tell you, I couldn't put it down! Throughout the book, I had my suspicions, but there were a couple of twists that I actually guessed, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. My favorite scene was definitely when the truth was revealed. And you know what? I'm still questioning something from the book. It's been a back and forth decision, but I think giving it a rating of 3.75 feels fair to me.
“The Disappearance of Rachel Price” wasn't a bad book, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations either. In my opinion, it's not the author's best work. Sometimes we have high hopes for a book and it doesn't quite hit the mark. But hey, it's all part of the reading journey, right? We win some, we lose some!
THIS WAS SO GOOOOD
Basically, after being missing for 16 years, Rachel Price reappears, telling everyone the story of what happened to her and where she was. One person, however, does not believe her- her daughter.
Dude- this book was so good. The characters, the plot, the writing, everything. This is one that I will definitely be buying a copy of when it comes out- and I don't say that about too many books. In fact (and keep in mind I love Holly Jackson books), this might be my favorite book of hers. Everyone needs to read this when it comes out. Everything about this book just feels so dynamic and nuts that you can't look away. This book will be a serious problem for you if you have other things that you need to get done. You won't be able to do anything else.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is a MUST for the classroom library. I really appreciated the exploration of a mother-daughter relationship through this lens. It's a fascinating read, and the twist was well manufactured. It didn't come out of nowhere, but it also wasn't predictable.
our main character annabel price lives in gorham, new hampshire. with the price family, she’s filming a true crime documentary directed by ramsey which envolves rachel price’s case, bel’s mom who disappeared 16 years ago. in the middle of takes… rachel price is back from the dead.
she talked to the authorities about being locked in a basement since the kidnapping but bel doesn’t believe her and now she needs to gather evidence about what really happened on february 13th, 2008. and ramsey has the idea of changing the documentary’s vision into her reappearance and how it affects all price family members.
HOLLY JACKSON YOU HAVE DONE IT AGAIN !!!!! you are the moment .
i love holly but i didn’t know how good this book was gonna be, i’m so impressed !!!! i’ll start saying that i got some of the plot twists right but i did not see all the ending coming, i mean i knew what happened to rachel was gonna be mind blowing BUT THAT MINDBLOWING???? holly jackson are you doing okay??? but i gotta say that i LOVED the last few chapters !!!! there’s nothing that holly could do different, it’s perfect to me ! i won’t mention any of my guesses since the book will only be out in two weeks but i had a lot of guesses so another day i’ll add them here !!
i think a lot of people may get disappointed with the romance but i feel really good about it. bel and ash felt like a light summer love? i mean a lot of stuff couldn’t happen like it did in agggtm but it was good !!! holly maybe added so nobody would be like “where’s the romance in this???” but with or without romance, this book would be a 5 star .
i didn’t think i was gonna say this but ramsey is one of the best characters holly has written, maybe on my top 5. bel, carter and rachel i love you !!!!!!
a huge thank you to netgalley and random house children’s team for sending me this arc !!!!
holly jackson does it again!!!! i zoomed through this book because it was so good. great plot set up and it did a perfect job of making you feel uneasy. i love how you didn’t know who to trust until the very end. absolutely loved how anti-men and anti-police it was lol
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Okay GGGTM fans – Holly Jackson is BACK with a new book that will have your head spinning. I absolutely fell in love with this story and now that I am finished, I wish it never ended.
This story is centered around a documentary series that is being recorded about a missing woman – Rachel Price - when suddenly she reappears. I was super sketched by the entire situation and I was constantly shifting the blame between characters and honest I never really knew what to believe. The characters in this one are all great. They are easy to love but at the same time, each so flawed that they are also easy to hate. Bel is easily my favorite – her cynicism is just on point and she reminded me a lot of myself.
I took my time reading this one, savoring every chapter, really trying to figure out what happened to Rachel Price. I enjoyed following along with Bel and Ash as they attempted to figure out the mystery. This book is steady paced throughout with some super suspenseful parts. I had so many different theories throughout reading this one and none of which prepared me for the jaw dropping plot twist that literally had me shook. Bravo Ms. Jackson – it takes a lot to make me speechless, and you got me good. I absolutely love where this story led. It was such a fun but also super traumatizing story about family and just how far people will go to help those they love.
I know that I am going to be entering book hangover mode now that I finished this one but it was so good. I really truly loved this story. The Reappearance Of Rachel Price is being released on April 2, you do not want to miss out on this one – especially if you are a GGGTM fan! Huge thank you to NetGalley, Holly Jackson and Delacorte Press for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This has been one of my favorite reads of all time. I felt like I was in the middle of a dateline or 20/20 episode the entire time…so many plot twists I was not expecting. I love that not only did we get to see Bel grow throughout this book, but we got to see Carter transform in ways that you didn’t see fully until the very end.
EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK.
I can’t wait until it’s in bookstores so I can tell everyone I know to go out and buy it.
I could not put it down! I can usually pick out what is going to happen and how a story will end. Not with this book! It had me guessing until the very end! Very well written and keeps your attention.
mom disappears for 16 years then one day turns back up during the filming of her disappearance?!?! okay Holly the plot is PLOTTING!
this book definitely takes a hot minute to get into. the first half is a big build up for the book and it’s pretty slow. there are tons of bread crumbs in this book that are all over the place and literally don’t make sense until the last 90ish%
i did not see/guess the ending at all which is one of my favorite parts about a thriller - BUT - the ending is kind of off the walls all over the place. extremely unrealistic to the point that it kind of ruined the reading experience for me. i’m mad over it.
definitely don’t go into this hoping to feel the same way that AGGTM will make you feel. really cool plot but not the best execution. ♥️
When I saw that NetGalley approved my request for The Reappearance of Rachel Price, I was both excited and wary. I mean, I should be excited for any book by the same author as A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, arguably one of the best teen mystery series. But I also can’t forget that that series was followed by Five Survive, which was astoundingly disappointing. Good news, friends: This was so much better than Five Survive.
The set-up: Eighteen year-old Bel has lived her whole life as “the daughter of Rachel Price,” the woman who disappeared without a trace sixteen years before. Bel doesn’t allow herself to get attached to many people because deep down, she’s afraid—no, she knows—that they will inevitably leave her. In need of cash to help pay for her grandfather’s care, the Price family has agreed to take part in the filming of a documentary about Bel’s mom’s disappearance. And it’s during the filming of this documentary that—I know the title is a bit cryptic but stay with me here—Rachel Price returns.
This book was what I wanted from Five Survive: proof that Holly Jackson can finally able to break free from AGGGTM and still deliver a story that is equally satisfying. Thank goodness, because if she wrote another book where a character is oddly obsessed with a curtain pattern and then never explained that obsession, I think I would have lost it. Were there twists and turns? Yes. Did things get super complicated and veer into morally gray territory? Yes. Was I surprised by some of the revelations? Also yes. Is it AGGGTM, no—but that’s a good thing. Jackson is finally showing us that she doesn’t have to involve Pippa Fitz-Amobi for her writing to be good.
This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book will be published on April 2.
"From the author of the multimillion-copy bestselling A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series and Five Survive comes a gripping thriller following one teen's search for the truth about her mother's shocking disappearance - and even more shocking reappearance - during the filming of a true crime documentary.
Lights. Camera. Lies.
Eighteen-year-old Bel has lived her whole life in the shadow of her mom's mysterious disappearance. Sixteen years ago, Rachel Price vanished and young Bel was the only witness, but she has no memory of it. Rachel is gone, long presumed dead, and Bel wishes everyone would just move on.
But the case is dredged up from the past when the Price family agrees to a true crime documentary. Bel can't wait for filming to end, for life to go back to normal. And then the impossible happens. Rachel Price reappears, and life will never be normal again.
Rachel has an unbelievable story about what happened to her. Unbelievable, because Bel isn't sure it's real. If Rachel is lying, then where has she been all this time? And - could she be dangerous? With the cameras still rolling, Bel must uncover the truth about her mother, and find out why Rachel Price really came back from the dead...
From world-renowned author Holly Jackson comes a mind-blowing masterpiece about one girl's search for the truth, and the terror in finding out who your family really is."
Family can be murder.
first things first this book was SO GOOD. i binged it in like a day because i had to know what the heck was going on and like i usually can come up with some ideas on what might happen but i literally had no clue how to make everything make sense so i just kept reading and one of my favorite things about this book was like my jaw would drop like every chapter because there are so many twists and turns and you don’t know who is lying and telling the truth and like the end. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK. holly jackson did such an amazing job at following through with small details like this book is one i have to re read and then be like OHHHH anyways five stars easily one of my new fav thrillers and books ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Holly Jackson has proven herself again to be a master at crafting a suspenseful story with an extremely compelling main character. There is something about her books that have the "it" factor for me, and they stick with me for so long after I read them. The reading experience of this one was great, since I immediately was so into this book that I was gasping and covering my eyes as I was reading (there was even a moment where I had to put the book down and take a lap because I was so overwhelmed). Bel was a fascinating main character, and I was really rooting for her to succeed, even as she was rude and pushed people away. I had a guess for how it would end, and I was completely wrong, although everything made sense. My main complaint about this book is that some of the pacing was a little weird - the middle of this book felt like it lasted forever, and it felt a little repetitive, but this book was so tension-filled and suspenseful that I had a really good time reading it. Would highly recommend!
What would you do if your mother was missing for 16 years and she just mysteriously showed back up? What if you did quite believe her story but on the other hand why would she lie?
The Reappearance of Rachel Price was thrilling and super twisty. Just when you think you’ve figured it all out, you haven’t and that is what blows your mind.
My attention was grabbed from the start and I couldn’t put this down. Holly Jackson is an expert at pulling you into her twisted web of a story and weaving the details together to get you to an incredible conclusion.
I loved AGGGTM and this absolutely topped that.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

Okay, what a fun book this was full of twists and turns at every corner.
The girlies love Holly Jackson's YA mystery novels, and I know this one will be just as big a hit as all of her others.
I read A Good Girl's Guide to Murder but have not finished the series or read any of her other novels, but this one has definitely motivated me to go back and finish them!
The reason it's a 4 star instead of a 5 is because I'm not sure how I feel about the whole twist at the ending. I was waiting for a huge surprise that felt like it was building throughout the whole novel, but I felt like it just didn't happen.
