Holly Jackson YA thrillers are my favorite and THE REAPPEARANCE OF RACHEL PRICE is no exception. This gave me similar vibes to AGGTM but still had a different plot. Bel was an average teenager whose world is turned upside down when her “dead” mother returns. The writing during the beginning scenes of the family reunited made me feel so uncomfortable and awkward as if I was in the story. The ending was a little too wild but overall I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller!
Thank you NetGalley and Delacorte Press for sharing this with me in exchange of my honest thoughts!
I enjoyed this one! It was just twisty enough to be engaging, but it wasn’t overly complicated in terms of plot development. Bel is surly and keeps everyone at arm’s length due to her mother’s disappearance. She is very close to her dad and her cousin, Carter. But all of that changes when Rachel, Bel’s mom, reappears after 16 years. Now Bel is left to figure out what really happened and who does she really trust. Fun YA mystery read!
This was a great book! I really enjoyed this murder mystery and the way that we got to see the relationship between Rachel and Bel grow as they unearth secrets and learn about the past. I loved reading this book!
The twists were wild! The doubt was planted throughout the whole story. I felt like Bel- I didn’t know who to trust or whose story held the truth. I’m still picking my jaw up off the floor. Even though the story held my attention with Bel and her shenanigans to learn the truth I felt that the story was a little slow moving and then at the end when the truth was revealed it felt like a whiplash moment. I really enjoyed losing sleep reading this story and to learn the truth of Rachel Price’s disappearance and her reappearance.
My new favorite Holly Jackson book!
True to form, Jackson’s writing style is easy to read and difficult to put down.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price follows a dysfunctional family who has faced a great tragedy. Main character Bel still struggles with the trauma of being left behind as a baby when her mother was taken. In the wake of filming a documentary about the crime, Rachel reappears after sixteen years. However, the story she tells of what happened to her isn’t holding up, and the family falls apart. Bel resolves to uncover the truth and learn who she can trust.
Jackson expertly brings every detail together into an intense read with a satisfying ending.
A few times I had the feeling that some parts dragged on too long, but it was worth it in the end.
I also felt that profanity was overused.
My only complaint about the plot line is how poorly one character is treated at the ending.
All in all, as I said, this is my new favorite HoJay book! I am honored to have been invited to read an advance copy and won’t hesitate to recommend it to others!
Thank you, NetGalley and RandomHouse/Delacorte for the advance reader copy!
This was a fun "plotty twisty" thriller that I couldn't put down - but some parts didn't hold up after I finished. I really enjoyed the mystery, it kept me on my toes and kept me guessing, although after I was done I wasn't sure it totally fit together - there were still a few plot holes. However, Holly Jackson is an engaging writer and if you like mysteries, you won't be able to put this one down.

“The truth didn’t make sense. But it was the only thing that did. Rachel Price was back and Bel had lost her mind.”
The Reappearance of Rachel Price tells the story of Bel whose mother suddenly appears after being missing for sixteen years. Rachel’s reappearance shakes the whole Price family, especially Bel who thinks Rachel isn’t telling the truth and is hiding something big, something that has to do with her disappearance all those years ago.
This book was a wild ride and even though the middle of it was a little slow for me I still enjoyed it. I had a lot of suspicions and gut feelings throughout the book, some were right or close to being right, and some weren’t. What I didn’t expect were the twists!!!!
Bel was an okay character. Rachel, her mom, suddenly appeared and life as Bel knows it changed in an instant. She wanted things to go back the way there were and her trust/abandonment issues really influenced her thoughts and actions. I found her to be stubborn and her tunnel vision stressed me a lot throughout this book.
Rachel, now that’s an interesting character. Disappearing mysteriously and then suddenly appearing after sixteen years while the Price family are being filmed for a documentary about her, too!!! She was acting very suspicious throughout the whole book that I couldn’t blame Bel for doing what she’s done.

A very solid YA thriller.
We follow Bel, whose mother Rachel disappeared when she was a baby. Charlie’s, Bel's father, was charged with the crime was but ultimately found to be not guilty. While a documentary crew is filming a special on the disappearance, Rachel Price reappears.
I could not put this book down. It is incredibly fast paced and filled with twists and turns. It's marketed as YA, but honestly didn’t read very young to me. I have a hard time reading YA these days but I had no problems with the writing in this, which is how I feel about every Holly Jackson book I've read.
The only part of this book that hampered my enjoyment was Bel. She was incredibly frustrating to read from at times. Because of her trauma, she doesn’t want to get close to people and is rude to them so she can force them to leave until they leave on their own. This is understandable, but reading about Bel being mean to someone for no reason for the 36377th time got old.
I would recommend this to thriller fans, even if you don’t usually read YA. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

I really enjoy Holly Jackson's writing but I'm not sure anything will beat my love for A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. This was really good but I thought it dragged in too many places. I did guess almost all of it and thought the suspense was missing more than her other stories. The ending was a little too convenient and wrapped up easily. The almost-romance between Bel and Ash was misplaced in this story - it really wasn't needed - and I didn't connect with the characters like I did her previous books. However, still a great read, and I'll always recommend her books..

This was a hard one to rate. It starts off extremely slow until about the 17%. I’m not usually a fan of making the protagonist so unlikeable, but I did like it here. Maybe it shouldn’t have been funny, but I really enjoyed how mistrusting and rude she was to everyone. Her just flat out not believing anyone’s stories and getting the film crew to try and dig up dirt was so absurd and just teen like, in a way that only they can be so wrong. So I enjoyed the middle chunk of the book. I was starting to even like some of these flawed characters. I was a big fan of all of Jackson’s other works so I really had high hopes for a wild twists at the end. Which fell flat for me. I’m notoriously obnoxiously bad at predicting thriller twists, but somehow I got pretty much all of them. Maybe someone without such high expectations would enjoy it more. Then how the characters interacted at the very end just didn’t make sense. It was a lack luster finish, but maybe it would work for other people.

holly jackson, as an author, has changed so much since agggtm - and it shows. not only is her writing style darker, grittier, and the relationships more fraught than ever, but the very bones of the story feel more confident, fleshed out. i wasn't a fan of five survive all that much, and i'm very happy that this book has managed to grasp my interest strongly.
the kleptomania aspect of bel's character reminded me a lot of nicki from Greetings from Witness Protection!, which was a favorite of mine when i was in middle school. that's probably a reason the character resonated with me so strongly. i also enjoyed bel's innate skepticism and thinking skills, and the mystery was so much fun to unravel with her.
read this if you liked agggtm, want something quick and entertaining, or like watching characters dodge media and documentary crew members for 370 pages straight.
Omg I was sooooo into this. I had a hard time connecting with Bel at the beginning, but once Rachel showed up I was immediately swept into story and finished it the same day. I had no idea who to trust or believe. I love when a mystery is unpredictable. I also felt like this covered most plotholes very well. I enjoyed the sidestory with Ash and Bel a lot more than I expected. This plot was so layered and I was hooked in part because it was so intricate. I seriously was changing my mind every chapter as to what I thought was really going on and who wasn’t to be trusted. This was a really well done, twisty YA thriller.
Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for the ARC.
At first, I was wondering what sort of adventure Jackson would take readers on with her newest book- how could it possibly compare to AGGGTM? I loved the twists and turns and was so engaged meeting these new characters and learning about Bel and Rachel.
I loved this book! I’ve found that I really enjoy how the author writes her books and am so glad I decided to pick this one up. I have to admit, I did see part of the twist coming, but other than that this book kept its grip on me. This is definitely a must read, especially for fans of her other series, A Good Girls Guide to Murder. Thank you to Random House Children’s and NetGalley for the ARC.
This was so addicting. I preferred this 100x more than AGGGTM!
This family is MESSED UP!
Bel’s mother disappeared 16 years ago when Bel was 2 years old, but she was too young to remember anything. Now Bel’s part of a documentary telling the story of the Price family and the unsolvable mystery.
But then, Rachel Price reappears and Bel can’t help but notice some inconsistencies in her story. Does that mean everything her mother says is untrue? And how do you fit a stranger back into your life?
Ash, the camera assistant, was instantly endearing. Bel described him as the love child of a washed-up rock star and a clown and he’s just so naive and unknowingly funny and sweet. When we first meet him, he’s wearing a bright purple sweater with little green-and-yellow dinosaurs marching across his chest.
As Bel so says:
“Fuck off, Harry Styles."
What a love story.
Bel unravels so many mysteries and dark secrets about her family towards the end that it sent me into a spiral!
I got whiplash.
This isn’t quite as dark as As Good As Dead, but it’s definitely more thrilling and chilling than AGGGM!
Bel was an unlikable character. She pushed everyone away so they wouldn’t inevitably leave her. This makes her unbelievably, unnecessarily rude. I didn’t like that as much.
Nevertheless, she was an intriguing and extremely snarky character to follow.
“Bel, be nice."
Bel hissed, hiding from the sun. "I can't, it burns."
Weirdly, I preferred the first 70% to the ending.

Those who love Holly Jackson’s writing, you will not be disappointed. If you are new to her books, get ready for a fantastic ride.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price is full of twists that you can’t see coming. Complex family dynamics that make decisions making even harder than they should be. Drama, thriller, mystery.
While filming the documentary of her mom’s disappearance, Bel is faced with deciding if the woman claiming to be her mom, is really Rachel Price!
I love how Jackson incorporated the documentary aspect in the book. I feel the audience will connect with the social media/filming side of things.
I just reviewed The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson. #TheReappearanceofRachelPrice #NetGalley
In this YA thriller, a cynical high school senior discovers the mother that disappeared 16 years ago wasn't as disappeared as she thought. If you like books that keep you guessing at every turn you might like this one.
Bel has a knack for pushing people away before they inevitably leave her. Forced by her father to partake in a documentary about her mother's disappearance 16 years prior, Bel finds herself at the center of a media windstorm when that mother, Rachel Price, reappears with little explanation. But something isn't right, Rachel's story isn't quite lining up, and her dad--Bel's rock--is acting in ways she's never seen him act before. Partnering up with Ash, the documentarian's nephew, Bel sets out to catch Rachel in her lies and discover the truth about the disappearance so many years ago so her life can return to normal--just her and her dad. But then Bel's worst nightmare comes true: her dad disappears. And she knows Rachel had something to do with it.
You never quite know what will happen next in this novel and Holly Jackson certainly keeps you turning pages. I found myself almost rushing through at times because I NEEDED to know answers. However, I felt that certain things could have been left out of the story--like Bel's kleptomania, which was never properly addressed and magically disappears by the end of the book--and certain things should have been fleshed out more--like the reason Bel's dad wanted to kill Rachel in the first place.
Overall, an enjoyable read, but if details like those will bother you, find another YA thriller--there's plenty to choose from!

Sixteen years ago, Bel Price's mom, Rachel Price, vanished into thin air. Now an 18-year-old high school senior, Bel has no memory of her mom's disappearance and has long presumed her dead. When a filmmaker makes Rachel Price the subject of a true crime documentary, the case is dragged up from the past. But then the impossible happens, and Rachel Price reappears. Her story about what happened to her seems unbelievable, and Bel thinks she may be lying. With the cameras still rolling, Bel must uncover the truth and find out why Rachel Price really came back.
Holly Jackson knows a thing or two about YA mysteries, and "The Reappearance of Rachel Price" is yet another bingeworthy thriller. While I didn't like this one as much as the Good Girl's Guide to Murder series, it was still a fun read. I had my suspicions throughout the book, but I did not see any of those twists coming, which I loved. My main issue with the story was Bel as the protagonist. While I cannot imagine what she went through, I felt she was too stubborn, childish, and, quite frankly, a bit rude. I'm not sure if she was intentionally unlikeable as a plot device, but it was really hard for me to root for her. Rachel was by far the most interesting and likeable character, and I wish we had a few chapters from her perspective. Overall, though, an enjoyable mystery, and I look forward to reading more from the author.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for this thriller. Honestly, I liked this better than Good Girl’s Guide. Sixteen years ago, Bel’s mom, Rachel Price, disappeared seemingly into thin air. She left Bel behind in the car. Now, a film crew wants to make a documentary about Rachel and her disappearance, focusing on Bel. As filming begins, the unthinkable happens - Rachel shows up. But things aren’t adding up. Bel catches a couple of inconsistencies in her stories, and the rest of her family is acting strangely. What really happened to Rachel Price? The end motive is a little weak, but the twists are good and it will keep readers engaged. It’s a bit swear-y, but it I think it’s good for grades 8+.
What would you do if your mother who was presumed missing/dead after mysteriously disappearing 16 years ago suddenly appears alive in the middle of shooting a documentary about her disappearance... and now the question of who did this to her might break apart our own family. Annabel "Bel" Price has lived her life in the shadow of her mother's mysterious disappearance, 16 years ago when she was 2 years old, her mother took her to the mall and then disappeared without a trace. Nobody knows what happened to her and whether she is alive or dead. Her disappearance has become so famous that now a film crew wants to make a documentary about her disappearance... yet to Bel's great surprise her mother suddenly appears again... and something about her story isn't ringing true to Bel. Bel will find the answers as to what really happened to her mother... even if it means revealing the dark family secrets in her own home. I was so so excited to read this as I am a huge fan of the author's previous series, yet this one kind of fell flat to me. I predicted the villain early on and it was so hard to actually even like or root for Bel as a protagonist. I think the most compelling and interesting character in this story was Rachel, I felt for her and from the moment she came back you can tell she was the victim. This book felt like watching a cheesy hallmark mystery thriller movie. Bel felt intentionally unlikable to move the plot and to hold off on the big reveal and twist, yet I felt like this book would have worked so much better off if we got to switch between Bel and Rachel's POV to slowly fleshing out the mystery and who the killer was. Overall it was just not for me but I definitely like the author's style so I can't wait to read their next book. I feel like if you like family mystery thrillers this one would definitely be for you!
