The Reappearance of Rachel Price" is now my favorite book by Holly Jackson. Even though I was already a fan of her "Good Girl Guide to Murder" series, this book exceeded my expectations. I was able to finish it in just a couple of days.
Rachel Price went missing sixteen years ago, and suddenly, she resurfaces out of nowhere. Bel, Rachel's daughter, is determined to uncover the truth about what happened to her mother and how she managed to return to her life.
This book took me on an exhilarating journey from beginning to end. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, Jackson would take the story in a whole new direction, and I was left stunned. The true crime mystery plot was a great concept, especially for someone like me, who loves true crime podcasts. It was entertaining to follow Bel's perspective as she and her team made a documentary on her mother's disappearance.
However, my only complaint about the book is that the ending felt a bit unrealistic and strange. While it was enjoyable for entertainment purposes, I found it hard to believe that the three main characters, especially Carter, would act the way they did without any remorse.
Thank you to NetGallery and to Random House Children’s for giving me a copy of this book.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I was so excited to received an advanced copy of this and devoured it in one day! I LOVED it! I have enjoyed all the books by Holly Jackson and this is amazing as well! The storyline of shooting a documentary about a missing woman, Rachel Price, who then shows up during the tapings and leaves everyone shocked and confused. Her own daughter wasn’t sure she believed her story. This book had plenty of twists along the way that I hadn’t even been close to guessing how it was going to end and the ending was sooo good! 10/10 recommend!!
So many great twists and turns - who to trust changed in each chapter, and I never would have guessed how the dynamics and relationships would’ve shifted by the end. A compelling and fun read.
This book provides many turns and twists to a story of family betrayal and lies that it really keeps your attention. Even if you think you know where this story is going you will be wrong time and again. Another great story telling by Holly Jackson. Definitely worth the read. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Bel has lived her life keeping people at a distance. Ever since she was abandoned in the backseat of a car at two years old when her mother, Rachel, vanished into thin air, she knows that people always leave. Sixteen years after her mom's disappearance, her father has agreed to a crew film a documentary about Bel's mother's disappearance, and while Bel is unhappy about his choice, she goes along with it to support him. Part way through filming, Rachel reappears in the woods, beginning the unraveling of the mystery behind her disappearance. Bel is suspicious of the timing of her return and is determined to prove that Rachel is lying about what happened. A captivating read that races towards the solving of the central mystery, this book's somewhat unlikeable protagonist goes through a rollercoaster of emotions, and ultimately, growth throughout the book. While the pace lagged at times and some of the story transitions were a bit disjointed, I thoroughly enjoyed the newest addition to Holly Jackson's works.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc copy of this book!
I loved the Holly Jackson Good Girls Guide series, and was so excited when I got an arc of this book. It’s excellent and fast paced, in the same way that GGGTM was….made me say “one more chapter” until I was done! Can’t wait to recommend it to my students!
This book kept me on the edge of the seat. While Bel's family is making a documentary about the disappearance of her mother, Rachel, who should appear on their doorstep but Rachel herself, 16 years after she disappeared? Everyone is excited for her return, but Bel begins to notice inconsistencies in her story. She catches Rachel sneaking around. Then Bel's dad, Charlie, disappears, and she has no idea who to believe. What is the truth? Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Bel's mom vanished into thin air when Bel was two, and it's been 16 years since this happened. Now, someone wants to make a documentary about Rachel's disappearance, since the case was never solved. The crew has started filming and investigating, when unexpectedly Rachel returns. She has a vague story about where she's been and Bel knows Rachel is lying about where's she been and what actually happened and has set out to prove it.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy. It took a few chapters to get into the story, but once Rachel appeared, I was all in for the numerous twists and turns and nonstop action. This will appeal to both high school students and adults because it the feel of an adult thriller than a YA thriller. Fans of Jackson's GGGTM books will enjoy this one too.
It doesn't get any better than Holly Jackson! Can this woman write! I know some of you may be thinking that a young adult thriller may not hold your interest - let me tell you, you would be dead wrong. And her latest, "The Reappearance of Rachel Price" is probably one of her best yet! The thrills, the twists, the superb writing and characterization draws you in and doesn't let go until you have turned the last page! And once you have finished, you will be in the most spectacular book-slump. I promise. This book was absolutely fantastic and I don't know how anyone could have done any better. Definitely one of my favorite reads of the new year! Well done Ms. Jackson!!! And keep them coming!
Wow, I like Holly Jackson more and more with each of her books I read! This one is my favorite yet. Bel grows up without her mother, who disappeared when she was just a baby. Just a documentary team is in the midst of filming about Bel's family and her mom's disappearance, Rachel Price appears and thus begins Bel's quest to find out the truth of her mother and her entire family. Full of great twist and turns, this book is a real page turner and will leave readers guessing. Character development is good here and family dynamics are quite realistic and believable. Bel's journey through her attitudes, thoughts, and feelings make this the perfect YA high interest story, but the book is enjoyable for adults as well. Another great Holly Jackson thriller.
Oh my god this one was crazy!! I really enjoyed this book. It is surprising to me that this can be considered YA. I definitely did not guess the twist. Overall 5 stars!
This book was engaging from beginning to end! I read it in one day. The book kept me guessing and as new information was revealed, I kept adjusting my theory for how it would end. If you liked A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, you will also love this book!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the eARC!
As a fan of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I was so excited for this book. It surpassed all my expectations. It’s a total page-turner, ingeniously plotted, with pitch-perfect emotions. I’ve never read a book with so many twists, none of which I saw coming.
I will absolutely be buying and rereading this once it’s released, and I will recommend it widely to the young adults and librarians I work with!
Thank you for the advanced reading copy. I did struggle with this book found that it didn't pick up for a while. Unfortunately it was not a hit with me
I don’t give out 5 stars lightly, but this one got me. I found it to be an incredibly entertaining mystery/thriller. The pacing of this book was its biggest asset. There were a lot of twisty plot points that keeps the reader guessing. I also appreciated that the idea was pretty original, there aren’t a ton of YA titles out there that have shared this perspective. Were there moments where things got so far-fetched that it seemed implausible? Absolutely. However, to me it did not diminish how highly entertaining this book was. I was a little reluctant as I was not a huge fan of A Good Girls Guide to Murder (even though it got so much hype) and I did not care for Five Survive, but Jackson redeemed herself in this one for me. I also really enjoyed the documentary aspect of this story. I thought it was a unique and interesting way to dive into the characters further. The one thing that did bother me was the amount of swearing throughout. I definitely don’t mind whatever language if it adds to the story or character development, but this felt forced and unnecessary. Overall though I definitely recommend this one! If you are a fan of mystery/thrillers, you have to read this.
I was really excited to read the new Holly Jackson book, the cover and description were intriguing.
Rachel Price has been missing for 16 years and just as her family is participating in the making of a documentary about her disappearance, she returns. Bel, Rachel’s daughter, doesn’t believe her mother’s story about what happened when she went missing and is determined to find the truth.
The premise is great and there are a lot of twists, but they start to get a bit far-fetched. Bel is not always the most likable character, but I can understand her snark and at times blatant rudeness due to her feelings of abandonment. Ash was one of the few characters I liked because of his quirkiness.
I loved AGGGTM and Good Girl, Bad Blood, but hated As Good as Dead because of the negative message that lying and murder are okay as long as you can get away with it. This has the same message, not something I would actively encourage my students to read. That being said, I am pretty sure they will all want to read it and think it’s great.
This book had me hooked from the beginning. Needless to say I read it in less than two days because I could not put it down.
Rachel Price has been missing for 16 years and then all of sudden appears out of nowhere and back into Bel’s life. Where was she? Bel is bound and determined to find out. And I sure as hell wanted to find out as well.
And not only is there a freaking badass main character, there also is a sweet sidekick named Ash. I absolutely loved hearing his outfit descriptions!
Holly Jackson is a mastermind. Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Random House Children’s for the ARC!!
I would love to talk about everything mind blowing that this book put me through but i’m not gonna spoil!
This book has you second guessing everything and everyone!
You will literally never guess what happens next and I loved that!
The characters aren’t like others you’ve seen before and i like that because you see too many times where books, especially YA where the main characters are all the same. but this one isn’t! she has character and her own personality quirks and i love it.
I really think once this book is published it will be just as talked about as AGGGTM.
I only took a star off because this isn’t my usual type of book that I read (I read more romance) but I know that this book is amazing and the last 25% had me glued to my kindle!

I like this book just not as much as I've liked other books by this author...nothing I've read yet has been able to top AGGGTM.
4.5 stars
When Bel was 2 years old, her mom, Rachel, disappeared. And Bel was the only witness. Now, 16 years later, someone has decided they want to make a documentary about Rachel’s disappearance. A case that had never been solved.
While the documentary digs up Price family secrets, Rachel suddenly makes an appearance. With a story that seems a little too impossible to believe. At least for Bel. Some of the details of her story aren’t adding up. So Bel is determined to get to the bottom of what really happened to Rachel Price.
Thanks to Delacorte and NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson to review! Holly Jackson can sometimes be a hit or miss author for me, but I’m happy to say this felt like a hit. The overall tone felt more like A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder for me, and after a few misses, I’m glad to see Jackson back on her game.
The pacing of this book is its biggest success. Right when you start reading it, you’re pulled into the Rachel Price case. It starts off with a bang, and the pace never really lets up until the end. As Bel is unraveling the Rachel case, you think you have it solved until something else happens. It really is an excellent twisty YA thriller.
In addition to the plot, the characters in this are well written, especially our protagonist Bel. She is determined to figure out the mystery, even if it takes her down paths she can’t come back from. Is the ending a little unbelievable? Yeah, but it’s done for entertainment value. The whole last third or fourth of the book is just non-stop action, and I had to download this on my phone so I could finish it at home. I had to know how it ended!
I wasn’t sure about this one going in, but if you’re looking for a fast-paced thriller to add to your spring TBR, definitely pick this one up when it comes out in April!
