I love these Proper Romance books and this one was no exception. It was a great read with a lot of funny and charming moments that reminded me of some of my favourites in this genre like Edenbrooke. I really enjoyed the relationship building and description of Brighton and especially loved the ending.

Interesting characters. Delicious tension. Fun read. Highcliffe House is a lovely, clean historical romance. I found myself rooting for both Anna and Graham. I loved Graham’s family, especially Tabs! I love the Brighton setting. I would definitely recommend this book to library patrons!

Highcliffe House was like a stroll with an old friend. These fun, light hearted, and swoony regency books are what keep me smiling the whole time!!!

I love Megan’s character connections. Anna Lane just wants to reconnect with her dad but that gets tossed out the window fast when he decides to send her on ahead with her sworn enemy.

Graham Everett is just trying to keep his mom and sister financially secure .. his plans are derailed as well when he has to get the approval of his business partner’s daughter.

This enemy to love story was so wonderful! I loved seeing their walls come down and them not hold their prejudices.

I 100% recommend this beauty!

Thank you to netgalley and the author for sending me this ARC!

Highcliffe House by Megan Walker

I haven’t read a book by Megan Walker that wasn’t a five star. I seriously love them all and Highcliffe House was no exception.

Misunderstandings lead to years of torturing each other until Graham and Anna are forced to spend a week together at Graham’s family home. Tension begins to melt away as they see each other in a new light.

THIS STORY. My gosh it is so good. It feels so organic (the sign of a fantastic author) and all the pieces come together in a work of art.

The chemistry. THE CHEMISTRY. There were sparks flying everywhere. The romantic development is so believable and charming.

Would I recommend this? Abso-freaking-utely

Highcliffe House by Megan Walker is a good Regency Romance. I very much enjoyed my time with this story, and I really loved Graham and Anna. This story is an enemies-to-lovers story, and I have found that lately I really dislike these types of stories. It seems like the #1 goal of enemies-to-lovers characters is to hate each other for about 65-75% of the story, fight on almost every page, randomly change heart late into the story (where it almost feels unbelievable), and then get married. I get whiplash from these stories. BUT that is not what I got from Highcliffe House. Walker did an excellent job crafting a realistic enemies-to-lovers story, and it happens because of her believable and relatable characters. Graham is such a good man. He is dedicated, loyal, and so hard working. But he is also so kind. He would give the shirt off his back if he saw someone in need. Even though Anna drives him crazy, Graham pays attention to everything about her — her likes, dislikes, and everything she thinks she’s hiding from the world. The best part about Graham is he just lets Anna be herself. And Anna grows to see that Graham is not the man she originally believed him to be. It is when Anna gives up her old assumptions and judgements, and allows Graham to open up a bit, that she is able to be vulnerable for minute and grow into the woman she was always meant to be. It was so much fun getting to watch these two characters stop distrusting one another, become friends, and then naturally become more.

Highcliffe House is a great Regency Romance that I highly recommend. This is a well-written story with excellently crafted and endearing characters. If you’re in the mood for an engaging Regency Romance, you’ll definitely want to check this book out!

An enemies to lovers story that must not be missed! The banter and contempt between these two was so fun to read, but not as fun as watching them fall for each other despite (and sometimes because of) the traits they previously hated about the other. The seaside setting makes this a perfect story for summertime and I fell in love with the location and the people in it. A swoony story with a satisfying conclusion, I couldn't put it down!

I immensely enjoyed Highcliffe House by Megan Walker! She will sweep you away to the Regency period where you will forever want to stay in this beautifully written original enemies to lovers story.

With her picturesque prose, Walker takes her readers to Brighton beach, England in Highcliffe House. I could feel the sand between my toes, smell the salt water, and hear the waves of the ocean. In this heartfelt story we follow Walker’s amazing characters Anna, who needs to decide if her father should invest in land at Brighton, and Graham, her father’s business partner. I couldn’t stop smiling, and even laughed-out-loud at their feisty banter and the hated goat cheese scenes, but their endearing moments at the beach gripped at my heartstrings. Graham’s family brought out his softer side, and his little sister Tabitha stole my heart. I absolutely loved following their journey towards figuring out that they were meant for each other.

Highcliffe House is a page-turning romance which I could not stop reading. I highly recommend this delightful romance!

Thank you so much Shadow Mountain Publishing for granting my wish, and providing me an arc of this amazing story via NetGalley. I was not obligated to write a favorable review, and all opinions are my own.

This historical romance is set by the seaside and is perfect for a lazy summer afternoon when you can almost feel those salty sea breezes brush by you.

Anna Lane has been hurt by love and wants her father near her side, but he is busy considering an investment proposal from his young friend Graham Everett. Graham has annoyed Anna for years and she would rather her father have nothing to do with him. But instead of rejecting Graham’s investment proposal, Anna’s father sends her to Brighton in his place to see what she thinks of this possible investment—and he expects a thorough report from her. Anna sees her chance to possibly sever her father’s connection to Graham once and for all, but she doesn’t count on finally seeing the man Graham truly is. When matters come to a head regarding her father’s investment, could Anna be brave enough to risk her heart and take a chance on love?

This lovely regency romance has a sweet depth to it as the characters start out as rivals and slowly overcome their prejudices about the other to finally falling in love. The author’s style is true to the time period, and she has a way of bringing the characters to life so that they jump off the page. Readers will particularly enjoy the setting of the seaside town and several beach scenes, the detailed descriptions making it seem as if you are really there. Graham’s family, especially his little sister, steal every scene they are in, and give a glimpse into Graham’s history and why he acts the way he does. Anna’s reaction to them is so sweet and shows her own growth as a character. The clever banter, the slow-burn romance, and the incredible setting make this book a can’t miss on your summer reading list!

Brilliant. I could not put this book down! Each page had me enthralled and eager to find out more. The character development felt well-paced and not rushed. I was able to imagine the world of Brighton without ever having been there.
The chemistry between Graham and Anna felt natural and well-written, especially with the history they had together, it was believable. They were witty, clever, kind, understanding, and romantic. I absolutely loved their story.
I definitely recommend this regency romance to anyone who wants to be taken to the sea side and away from the city with Graham and Anna.

This was a wonderful story If you love an enemies to lovers romance, but in a different time period, this book is for you. I love the banter...it just makes the book better!

Anna just wants her father's attention, but being sent to Brighton with Graham changes everything for her. She grows up a lot in this book and I think Graham is a loveable character. There are so many things about family, misconceptions and misunderstandings in this story. Another great book to add to the proper romances.

4.5 Stars

I LOVE a good enemies-to-lovers novel, and this one certainly delivers in that aspect! Anna and Graham had me smiling and swooning and oh-no!'ing all throughout the book.

I absolutely adored the relationships between Graham's family and the main characters. The sisters each had their own distinctive personalities and his mother was a saint. 💛

I also loved that both characters visibly grew throughout the novel. They didn't just fall in love, but they genuinely grew up and matured through that love. It made my little reader heart so happy.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book for fans of the genre!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. All expressed opinions belong to me.

Highcliffe House by Megan Walker is a delightful Regency romance set in the seaside town of Brighton, England, in 1813. The novel follows Anna Lane, a once-spoiled heiress, and Graham Everett, a self-made man whose financial future depends on a business deal with Anna’s father. Initially at odds, Anna and Graham find themselves thrown together in Brighton, where Anna must decide on her father’s investment. Through witty banter, misunderstandings, and personal growth, the two enemies discover an unexpected attraction and ultimately fall in love. Walker crafts a compelling narrative filled with humor and heart, showcasing the transformative power of love. The vivid setting and well-developed characters, including Graham’s endearing family, add depth to the story. Though the transition from animosity to love might feel sudden, the novel remains a charming and satisfying read, perfect for fans of historical romance.

I really enjoyed this enemies-to-lovers historical clean romance but for one glaring thing, hence the lower rating. The first half was really good but as their relationship changed, so too did the writing of it. Graham and Anna were constantly having absurd internal commentary on how the other looked, or smelled, or how they were feeling, or generally being melodramatic and silly. I rolled my eyes or cringed a lot and that's not how I want to feel.

But I liked the characters and their growth, the romance was sweet and fun (when it wasn't silly), and I loved Graham's family and their relationships with each other and Anna. I also appreciated that the slightly contrived drama was resolved quickly and didn't cause long-lasting tension between characters.

As a note, this is a little more on the spicy side, for the Proper Romance titles. The kisses are more passionate, more desires are vocalized, and there's more bodily touching/grazing/etc.

Enemy to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. I enjoy watching the characters realize that first impressions are not always right. In this story, Graham is sure that the stuck up Anna is nothing more than a spoiled brat. While she does act that way in the beginning, we quickly see the true Anna shining thru. Neither are thrilled with the prospect of a journey together, but neither can refuse.
I really liked the dual POV writing. So often I find myself wondering what the hero is thinking in a setting and in Highcliffe House we get to find out! The switch from enemy to friend to more was a fun and engaging read. This isn't a love at first sight happily ever after read. The relationship has arguments, misunderstandings and then communication & forgiveness. A sweet read for a great summer afternoon.

Anna and Graham are just simply delightful. And I cared about both characters which doesn’t always happen. The arc of Anna developed in such a beautiful way and Graham’s clueless guy thoughts made me laugh and melt as he tried to j deter and how to take care of his responsibilities and convince Anna the winder of the area. So well done. This author had me in the palm of her hand and thoroughly convinced me that I need to walk along these shores.

This was a lovely, regency romance. Clean, sweet, closed door, but still totally swoony. I love this author and always look forward to what she writes next. I enjoyed the sweet relationship between the male lead and his little sister and how family was an important thread woven into the story. Definitely recommend for anyone who likes a historical romance!

ah my goodness, I absolutely adore 'Highcliffe House'!!!! the misunderstanding, the pinning, the aaaagony, the slow burn, just makes this book one of my favourite this year!
Both characters are both fantastic people that have their own flaws but ahhhhhhhh, just such a lovely read with depth and quality character building.
