My thanks for the ARC goes to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing. I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Genre: Romance, Sweet Romance, Historical Romance, Proper Romance
Spice Level: Kissing

HIGHCLIFFE HOUSE was incredibly enjoyable. I liked how the two main characters were in competition for her father's attention, and I loved how that played out. The depth of the characters is fantastic! I really felt for both of them. All of the scenery and background information for the era was spot on. It's so refreshing to know that this author gets it and I can trust what I'm reading—I'll be back for more from her.

And without giving any spoilers, I want to give a shoutout for the ending! It didn't rely on a simple misunderstanding. YAY! I thought it was a unique and masterful ending. I was so satisfied that I was grinning.

If you love historical romance, this is the perfect book. Seriously, it's one of the best I've read for this time period.

I highly recommend this book!

Happy reading!

Thank you Shadow Mountain for my free ARC of Highcliffe House by Megan Walker — available May 7!

Read this if you:
✨ love regency romcoms with sassy female characters
🏝️ dream of living by the seaside
🖤 can't get enough of enemies-to-lovers

Anna Lane wants to escape the gossip hounds of London by fleeing to her favorite place, the seaside. And with her favorite person, her father, who is distracted lately by business dealings and who knows what else. But dear old dad has a different idea, and sends Anna to Brighton to help him with an investment — and worst of all? Her host is none other than her arch-nemesis, Graham Everett. But maybe Brighton is not that bad, and maybe Graham deserves a second look after all these years of loathing...

Y'all, this is SUCH A CUTE STORY!! I couldn't put it down, and fortunately, I didn't have to, so I happily binged it. I love Megan Walker's historical romances because they are so funny, witty, and endearing — the characters are complex and memorable, and I root for their happy ending the entire time! I especially loved Tabitha in this particular book; nothing like a wild animal of a little sister to bring the comedy to a tense situation. DEFINITELY pick this one up if you're into regency romcom vibes with adorable characters! And, while you're at it, grab Miss Newbury's List and Lakeshire Park because they're also to die for.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Another fantastic story by Megan Walker! I loved that Anna and Graham's struggles felt relatable. They initially had legitimate reasons for disliking each other but they were willing to be vulnerable and see things from the other person's perspective. This book is everything I want in a regency enemies to lovers story!

Anna has been left humiliated by a failed love interest and now she wants nothing more than to disappear from the ton, so she wants to ask her father to take her away with him from London. But her father has plans, investments and obligations that must be taken care of with his partner, Graham Everett, an insufferable man that is always in the middle of Anna´s plans, spending time with her father and now her need to run away. Graham is not going to let Mr. Lane's daughter distract him from the business he has in the pipeline or to caught the whole attention of him. But Mr. Lane has his own plans, so he contrives a solution with a condition: Anna and Graham must travel together to Brighton and make a decision about an investment there, deciding if it is a good or a bad idea to invest in it and make a complete report.
Anna and Graham will have to spend a lot of time together in order to do that, and while Graham tries to convince Anne of the worth of the investment and the beauty of Brighton, and spending time fighting with each other, they will discover something more, something that is more worthy than an investment or than either of them want, true love.

I love this book and have enjoyed every page of it from the beginning to end. This was my first read from this author but for sure I´m going to choose her again. She has another book in the works. Can´t wait to read it!

Oh, how I absolutely adored this wonderful story! I’ve read all of Megan’s books and they all have been fantastic! This one has become my new favorite!

Enemies to lovers is the supreme trope in my opinion and it is done so very well here. The relationship between Graham and Anna is very strained and the forced proximity they must endure is divine. Graham is so dedicated and determined in his pursuit to make a better life for his family. He thinks very highly of Anna’s father, especially when he doesn’t have a mentor available in his own father. Anna, who is the center of her father’s world, doesn’t like having to share her father’s attention and time with Graham. She resents Graham quite adamantly. But when her father request her assistance in determining the quality of an investment with Graham, she must spend an extended period of time in his home. It’s not long until her eyes are opened to the type of man Graham truly is.

Another aspect that makes this story so wonderful is the fabulous side characters. Oh my stars! Graham’s family is sweet, sassy, supportive, and so much fun. I love that Ginny doesn’t mince words and speaks her mind. And Tabitha! How could anyone not smile the entire time she is on page. That little girl steals the show.

I love when Graham and Anna really begin to understand each other better. As they let down their walls and toss propriety and pretense to the wind. The coy playfulness, the teasing, the laughs. So much to love here!

Thank you NetGalley and Shadow Mountain for the advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

This is a review for the upcoming book Highcliffe House by Megan Walker that releases on May 7th, and of which I received a copy in exchange for my honest opinion for NetGalley. I chose this book because I really have enjoyed Ms. Walker's books in the past, and also was drawn to it because I am a huge fan of the Regency Era, but I only choose books from that era that are good stories, not sappy romances, and this book was one of those great stories! I loved it so much that I started it at 9am this morning, and read it straight through till I was done, because it was that good! The characters and the plot drew me in so much that I couldn't put it down! I highlight recommend it, and give it a 5 star rating, and read the last page, and thought now what do I do??? I was that captivated with the story!!!

The story is set in London, England in 1813, with Graham Everett, a man who has been successful in finding investment opportunities for himself, of which he has used to care for his mother and his two sisters, whom he has been taking care of since their father walked out on them nine years ago, so Graham has had to find a way to support them all. Graham has befriended a very rich man, Mr. Lane, to whom he has also shared his many investment opportunities in the past, and who has invested capital into Graham's ideas, with which he has become richer, but also has become his dear friend and mentor along the way. Graham has recently heard of another investment opportunity that could set him and his family up for life, but he must ask Mr. Lane to come in with him again financially, and to be his partner in this scheme.

When Graham asks Mr. Lane to partner with him, Mr.Lane informs him that the investment sounds good, but this time he would like his daughter, Miss Anna Lane, a lady who does not care for Graham at all, to go and review this opportunity to see if it is something her father should invest in, but would she be willing since she despises him so? Due to a recent scandal, Anna needs to get out of London quick, so even though she despises Graham, she sees it as her ticket to escape London, so she reluctantly agrees. Graham does not want her anywhere near this investment, or the planning of it, as feels the same about her as she does about him, so he just wants his friend Mr Lane to invest, but is willing to do whatever it takes to clench this deal for him and his family, even if it means spending time with Miss Lane!!! But both reluctantly agree, and are thrown together, but the original investment opportunity leads them to a completely different opportunity that will cost them both dearly, but that will change both of their lives forever! It is such a great story!!! I really loved it!

This was a great book! Probably my favorite by this author. The characters just jumped off the page and I was drawn into the story immediately. The plot line was well written, full of rivalry and witty interactions and developing romance. I would definitely recommend this book!

4 1/2 stars.

I sweet story about first impressions and rushed judgements.

Anna and Graham have known each other for 3 years since her father started investing in his ventures. They think the worst of each other and don't have any good opinions.

That all changes when Anna's father asks Graham to take her for a week as a guest in his home (that he shares with his mother and two sisters) while he's taking care of a personal issue. Forced to live under the same roof, they finally start seeing the other like others do.

I liked Anna and Graham and how they went from quasi-enemies to friends to something more. The seaside setting was charming as was Graham's younger sister. Lots of tender moments.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

I would never turn down a Megan Walker book! This one lived up to my high expectations.

The story was expertly told with the main characters worming their way into my heart more with each page. I love a good enemies to more trope, This one delivered with all the stars.

If witty banter is your forte you will enjoy this even more! I loved the dialogue, the pranks and the found family aspect. Tabitha was such a refreshing whirlwind of a girl who knew something good when she saw it.

I truly loved so much of this story including:
The early morning welcome to Brighton
Anna’s love and acceptance of Graham’s family even when she didn’t like him.
Picnics on the beach
Fishing instructions (swoon)
The stair scene
Goat cheese
And so much more!

I can’t recommend this enough. Just read it already!

I loved reading Megan Walker's Highcliffe House. It is the perfect book to easily enjoy in one weekend. Set in regency England, we meet Anna, the daughter of a well-to-do London businessman, and Graham, a young investor who works closely with Anna's father. Anna and Graham have a long history of resenting one another. However, things begin to change when they are forced to spend a week together in Brighton scouting out a new business venture for Anna's father.

The POV shifts from Anna to Graham with each chapter, which allows the reader to empathize with both characters and see both sides of their feud and evolving relationship. I really enjoyed the character development and pace of the story as in unfolded over the course of Anna and Graham's week together by the sea.

This was my first Megan Walker book and I am now looking forward to reading her other titles! Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC.

Another wonderful book by Megan Walker! I just adored this story! One of my favorite enemy to lovers I have read. It was so fun seeing the dual point of view with some pride and prejudice vibes. Megan did a wonderful job going deep with the characters motives and growth. The romance was perfect with just the right amount of swoon while being clean . I could hardly put it down!

THIS. This book is exactly what an enemies to lovers story should be.

I loved every page of Highcliffe House. I am happily adding it to my shelf of favorites and look forward to getting a paperback copy. Megan Walker really outdid herself this time! The characters, the banter, the setting, the plot...all of them combined to weave a magical spell that transported me to a place that warmed my heart.

I read a lot of books, and sometimes a particular book just makes me hug my kindle to my chest and say a prayer of gratitude for having gotten to experience the story. This was one of those books.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy to review. I was not required to post a positive review and all opinions are my own.

Can I give this book more than 5 stars? Seriously, this book was absolutely perfect and I adored every minute! Each page made me fall more in love with these characters and this story ebbed and flowed exactly how I wanted it to! The banter, the chemistry, the slow and steady burn! I fell in love with each and every character! Graham was perfection and Anna absolutely won me over and then I adored her. Graham’s family enriched this story so much and softened Anna’s rough edges allowing her to really be herself. This book was expertly paced and perfectly plotted. The romance gave me everything I was hoping for and even in moments of conflict this author handled situations with such ease and allowed the characters to work through issues instead of running from them! This book was like a breath of fresh air! I have absolutely loved everything from Megan Walker cementing her as a must read author on my list!

A delightful love story, beautifully written. I loved all the characters in this book, from the dedicated, slightly misguided Mr. Lane to the delightful, charming, and hilarious Tabs. Family relationships are tender and true to life, with loyalty firmly at their core. The love story between graham and Anna is surprising to both of them and feels genuine and authentic. Good dialogue, lots of genuinely funny moments, and some original situations that made the story seem fresh. Satisfying ending that I was particularly glad did not turn into sappy perfection, but was more true to life….the working together that makes marriages strong.
Megan walker’s writing style is different in a good way. The tone of her writing rings with an honesty that is rare in this genre, and that reflects sincerity and hints at deeper meanings. Somehow the writing seems more weighty and genuine than the usual regency romance. Would love to read more from her!

A lighthearted Regency romance, Megan Walker's "Highcliff House" doesn't center on nobility and what scheming mothers will do to secure a Lord for their little darlings. Instead, characters are involved in investing and are decidedly title-free.

Perceiving herself to be the center of the universe, Anna Lane is initially rude and vindictive, and apparently doesn't care. While this is a harsh assessment of her character, I found her extremely unlikable at first. Her number one nemesis is Graham Everett, merely because he takes too much of her Papa's time. Things quickly change, however, when they are forced to share accommodations with Graham's family.

What follows is a speedy enemies-to-lovers story. Graham is a true hero with hidden depths. His backstory is intriguing and his family is a delight. Anna transforms rather quickly into a thoughtful and worthy young woman. This only takes a week, yet her alteration is believable.

Graham and Anna's banter is enjoyable, whether they're trading barbs or having heartfelt conversations. Secondary characters are interesting, although any "villains" are not wicked enough.

Told in two POV, "Highcliff House" is well-written and clean. Walker's prose is lovely. Thanks to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for an ARC of this sweet tale.

I loved this book! Anna and Graham are enemies because of their misconceptions of each other. But when forced together for a week in Brighton those misconceptions are slowly righted. I adored Graham's family, especially Tabitha. She is a force. I loved the interactions between Anna and Graham. Their chemistry is amazing, both caring and fire. I would highly recommend this book.

After almost making a disastrous mistake in romance, Anna is ready to escape London and the season with her father, but her hopes are dashed when her long-time enemy comes to steal her father's attention yet again, for yet another investment. Graham has clawed his way up from poverty after his father deserted the family, and this investment in Brighton could be what he needs to provide his mother and sisters with financial stability. But as usual, Anna seems out to thwart him. When Mr Lane decides to send Anna to Brighton for a week to investigate the investment, Anna is determined to find fault with everything - and Graham is willing to do whatever it takes to convince her to change her mind. But spending time together at his family's home shows each a different side of the other. Can they learn to look past their respective money problems to find a love worth far more?

A thoroughly enjoyable read of two enemies who are forced to actually get to know each other and find themselves friends - or perhaps more. I love the reminder that there is often more to people than we see initially, and that getting to know someone can completely change the way we view them. Anna does come across as rather entitled, but that felt more understandable when I got to see what her life had been like. I enjoyed getting to know both Anna and Graham, and appreciated the relationship each had with Mr Lane - and of course Graham's family were also great characters. I particularly enjoyed the fish scene, but all in all the story was well written, with an interesting setting, some good humour and banter and a satisfying ending. A good read.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
