This was absolutely the cutest group of stories. You start out with Christina Lauren and by the end of the story you're screaming to yourself, "NOO, why did this end so soon!" I could have easily read an entire novel, but appreciate the fact that this collection starts off with such a bang. Each of the stories that follow have their own sweetness that makes you feel all warm and happy inside. A quick read that lets each author shine.
Love all of these authors, so it was great to get some but sized stories while waiting for their next full length book!
Abby Jimenez’s story was my favorite but I really enjoyed all of them and look forward to their next book!
Such a cute and refreshing collection of Valentine Meet-Cutes! I think my two favorites of the bunch had to be Rosie and the Dreamboat and Drop, Cover, and Hold On. All six were pretty mild in the spice area so if you want romance but nothing too NSFW then these should be a good fit! The only one you may pass on would be Drop, Cover, and Hold On as it was a little more risqué than the others. Not that I’m complaining over here!
4 stars for the whole set but ratings individually:
-The Exception to The Rule: 5 Stars
-Worst Wingman Ever: 4 Stars
-Rosie & The Dreamboat: 4 Stars
-Drop Cover & Hold On: 3 Stars
-Royal Valentine: 3 Stars
-With Any Luck: 3 Stars
Kinda hard to review them all at once but I laugh, I swooned & I even cried. This collection of Valentine’s Day rom coms was perfect. All star line up. Audiobooks were great too if you get a chance to read them.
1 world, 6 unlikely encounters, February 14th, 2024 and romance is everywhere.
A collection of short stories that are perfect for when you just need that quick hit of fun and falling in love.
I only wish they all had epilogues.
I LOVE the easter egg connections between stories! (So impressed with doing that among 6 different authors!)
Almost all are clean or closed door.
What a great way to meet new-to-me authors!
The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren
This story gave the comedy and spice I come to expect from this author duo! Christina Lauren is an auto-buy author for me and this story was no exception! The meet-cute for this couple is the one that tech nerds dream of when we’re off in our coding universe and we get to know someone by chance from behind a screen. Their story covered the awkward years of leaving for college and the emotions behind it, the struggles that we all lived through during the Covid pandemic, and a chance meeting that any romantic would be happy to experience. Loved this story and the back and forth of their email exchanges!
Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez
Abby is an auto-buy author for me and this story did not disappoint! My grandmother recently passed away after a long, drawn out home hospice care situation so this started out hard for me to read but knowing how Abby carefully approaches difficult situations I knew the story would be written well. I loved that they found each other in multiple ways, and grandma’s confession made my jaw drop!
Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne
My husband frequents float tanks. I have never been for multiple reasons, one of which was articulated in this story! This was laugh out loud funny, a hilarious and heart wrenching experience between Rosie and her hero. When she confessed her fears under the protection of the float tank trap my heart broke for her but you could tell it was therapeutic for her to get that off her chest. Loved this story!
Drop, Cover, and Hold on by Jasmine Guillory
I love that I can count on Jasmine Guillory to write about real women who actually eat! The fact that this story centered around routine visits to a bakery made it even better. Love that these two found each other through their love of baked goods and were forced to face their feelings!
With Any Luck by Ashley Poston
I love a good “figure out what happened last night” storyline. This one was no exception! When your best friend gets married it’s always bittersweet, they have someone else now that they confide in more than you. When you can find your soulmate through the BFF of the one that you love loves, it has to be meant to be. Great story!
Royal Valentine by Sariah Wilson
Royal stories aren’t always my favorite (I prefer when I can relate to the characters), but I did enjoy this one! I did not see coming that he was royal as well and enjoyed seeing them fall for each other.
These are novellas that are mostly cute written by our favorite authors. I am not sure if it was my fault, but I thought they should have trigger warnings. I had to DNF the Abby Jimenez book, which was sad because I love her, but the hospice aspect was just too much. These books are good snippets to hold me over for their next publications.
Thank you to NetGalley for a digital copy of this anthology in exchange for my honest review.
I'd like to highlight my favorite story in this collection to review: The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren.
Pardon my incoming food metaphor.
You know when you're like damn, I just want a donut?
Then you get a donut, and you're like, ugh, it's stale and not really worth the calories... but it's still a *donut* and you're not a quitter?
Well. That is NOT this novella.
This bebe book is a donut from your most beloved baker fresh out the damn fryer.
It's hecking perfect. Sweet and fluffy and makes you dance in your chair it's so good. When you get to the last bite, you're like, dats it?
The other stories in this collection, if I'm being honest, were grocery store bakery donuts. Some of them from yesterday. I think they were solid, but they just didn't give me the buy-in that the Christina Lauren story had. They were able to create a history between the two leads that made their instant love connection swoon worthy.
Such a cute collaboration of love stories that will keep you wishing there was more to the stories. Each are a quick read that will get you hook like and sinker!
Thank you netgalley for the arcs of these stories! All the authors did such a good job and I loved all of the stories. Some of them I wish were full length novels :) I am super excited for these to be out in the world
Absolutely loved these! I need a whole book to follow worst wingman's and rosie and the dreamboat! Christina Lauren's was really cute especially with the style of emails going back and forth! Loved the series, hope amazon etc does more of these types of packaged stories!
These were just the perfect stories for a pick-me-up whenever I needed a bit of a perk. I opted to read each story in between other stories as I got bored/needed a break between heavy reads.
Christina Lauren and Abby's books were the highlights for me but all were immensely enjoyable and fun!
Another entertaining and enjoyable romantic collection from a powerhouse group of authors. All recognizable and popular in their own way, have come together to give readers everything they never knew they even needed! Highly recommend this fun and flirty collection.
What a fun idea! All of my favorite authors in one place. Every story left me wanting more!
Extra shout out to Christina Lauren and Abby Jimenez for being my favorites.
This collections of stories was awesome! I enjoyed each story and would recommend to romance lovers. My favorites were by Christina Lauren and Abby Jimenez. The connections between some of the stories were a fun surprise!
This collection is so FUN!!! I love that these 6 amazing romance authors came together to write these short stories. The premise of each one is so fun, since it's such a unique and improbable meet cute. They varied in length, but were all quick and easy reads with a surprising amount of depth! I was surprised at how engaged I got with some of the storylines. My favorite was BY FAR the Christina Lauren novella - I wish this was a full length book. I can't believe how much impact they put into so few pages! The storyline was so convincing and romantic. Abby Jimenez was my next favorite, but overall these are such great palette cleansers and I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun romance!
Such a fun collaboration of some great rom-com authors, combining some familiar names with some new for me which gave me the opportunity to preview some of their work! I really enjoyed the aspect of having multiple short stories that I could each fit into a sitting, makes it much less daunting than getting into a whole new story and allowed me to have a short little escape from time to time as I made my way through them. This does also make it challenging for the authors to have an opportunity to make the characters and story shine, some were able to accomplish this a bit better than others. But overall they were all pretty enjoyable!
Overall I really enjoyed this collection! My favorite story was the first one by Christina Lauren. This gave me the opportunity to try authors I hadn’t before. I’ve read books by Christina Lauren and Ashley Poston, but was new to the other four. I loved this collection though and would love if they collaborated again. While some needed a bit more work than others, it was worth the read. I especially loved Sally Thorne’s story. I was laughing like a child while reading the banter. Christina Lauren’s book was a bit confusing at first with the back and forth, but I enjoyed the meet cute. Abby Jimenez’s story wasn’t my favorite but that’s only because it was quite short and had a lot of heavy material in it. I’d be interested in reading more from her.
Averaged out to 3.5 stars so I rounded up. Not crazy about these novellas but I did like that they took place over Valentine’s Day.
The Exception to the Rule ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This story was so cute! I love the idea of them communicating only on Valentine’s Day over a decade but falling for each other that way.
Worst Wingman Ever ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This was also super cute! I think I have a thing for epistolary romances if done right. I like the mix of seriousness and the romance. Abby does this very well!
Rosie and the Dreamboat ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cute that he kept her calm but the premise that she was stuck in that flotation thing was just over the top.
Drop, Cover, and Hold On ⭐️⭐️
I love grump sunshine but not when miscommunication trope is involved. This was a miss for me.
With Any Luck ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Really liked the premise that was similar to Abby Jimenez’s Just For The Summer but with a different spin. I wish it was more developed.
Royal Valentine ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Added a star for the Rome travels because I love when travels are worked into romance but I didn’t feel like they had chemistry. Kind of creepy that he took an unconscious girl off the Spanish Steps and kept her there for a night. Otherwise it gave me The Princess Diaries vibes.
