This was such a sweet book! I loved the characters, and their love story. The dialogue was realistic and enjoyable.
A fantastic compilation of multiple female authors, I really enjoyed this, I am normally not a fan of compilations, but this exceeded my expectations. My favorite was Abby's!
Review for The Exception to the Rule:
This novella was super cute and a very fast read. It’s part of the “meet cute” collection of books. I decided to read each novella separately and rate and review them that way rather than tackle the entire short story collection at once.
I can relate to this particular “meet cute”! My husband and I met by chance online and talked for four entire years before deciding in person. Sure, these characters went for 10 years of online only communication but they were only 14 and 16 when they started emailing.
An accidental email sent on Valentine’s Day results in “T” and “C” meeting online. A year passes and they check in with each other again on Valentine’s Day. This begins a new tradition, every year they check in only on Valentine’s Day.
Their lives change a lot through the years. They change schools and the dynamics of their families change. But their valentines tradition remains.
I thought this was a sweet, cute read and I liked the characters. I enjoyed the epistolary portion of the book the most but that was definitely the majority of the story. I’m amazed that the authors could make me care so much about these characters so quickly!
I got an early ebook edition of this book of novellas from NetGalley. I plan to read and review each novella separately.
5 stars: The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren was adorable! I didn’t think I could like a short story so much. Callum and Terra’s story was cute.
4 stars: The Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez was a cute story but had an abrupt ending. I could have read a longer story about these characters for sure.
2.5 stars: Rosie and the Dreamboat had some moments where the dialogue was a little weird. This was not my favorite short story, but my first time reading anything by Sally Thorne.
2 stars: Drop Cover and Hold On escalated quickly. Guy glares at girl. Girl loves his pastries so can’t stay away. Earthquake makes them profess their love. They go upstairs and end up in his bed. This was my first time reading something by Jasmine Guillory as well.
4 stars: With Any Luck had me smiling pretty much the entire time reading this short story. Loved it. This was my first time reading something by Ashley Poston, but I will seek out more of her works now.
4 stars: Royal Valentine was super cute! My first read by Sariah Wilson, but I will definitely be looking into her series about the royal family because this short story was not enough! (The downside to this short story: the Scottish accent was way overdone.)
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.
Overall I loved this collection of sweet stories. My favorite was by far the Christina Lauren story.
These rom coms were exactly what I needed for the ‘Love is in the Air’ season! I really enjoyed each story, but my favorites have to be the Christina Lauren story, the one by Abby Jimenez and Sariah Wilson’s! Worst Wingman Ever hit me in all the feels and I can never pass up a good Royal love story! Overall, a huge win for Valentine’s reads from this hopelessly single girl.
This was so good! I’m not usually a fan of short stories, but I love several of these authors! Abby Jimenez and Christina Lauren’s were my favorite, but they were all good! Love!
Thank you to the publishers and #Netgalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren | 5⭐️
This was such a cutie lil novella! I read it in one sitting and fell head over heels for Callum and Terra and couldn’t wait for their paths to cross FOR REAL. Absolutely loved!
Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez | 5⭐️
In true Abby fashion, this story had the humor, the health professionals, the doggies, and of course, Nadia Cakes! This story really tugged on my heartstrings, but is a meet-cute worth reading.
Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne | 4⭐️
This one was cute, but I had a problem with how self-deprecating Rosie was. It came off super repetitive and I found it frustrating. I really loved the connection between Rosie and Leo and the concept for the story was really entertaining!
Drop, Cover and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory | 2⭐️
I usually LOVE the secret pining trope, but man, this one was not great. No other notes, tbh.
With Any Luck by Ashley Poston | 5⭐️
I thought this story was super charming and I loved the banter between Audrey and Theo. Add in a cute little family curse and you’ve got an entertaining wild goose chase.
Royal Valentine by Sariah Wilson | 4⭐️
I’m kind of a sucker for secret royals and this novella is no exception! This was definitely one that tugged on my heartstrings, and the TWIST! I mean, you can probably guess, but still - so cute!
Thank you to the authors and NetGalley for an eARC of this series of short stories in exchange for an honest review.
Drop, Cover and Hold On: 3 stars, Daisy and Harris are somewhat trapped in his bakery after an earthquake, You'd think with that Earth shattering event, the attraction would also be quaking; however, even though they quickly fell into bed, this one left me wondering how it even happened. Didn't make me laugh out loud, or bring tears to my eyes - both a requirement to get 5 stars from me.
The Exception to the Rule: 4.5 stars, This short story was wonderful, why couldn't there be more! Terra and Callum originally "meet" due to a misdirected email. The first several years of the book is mostly exchanging emails on Valentine's Day. You could feel the characters slow burn getting to know each other little by little even though they never exchanged actual names. Eventually, they end up at the same place, at the same time and through a somewhat embarrassing encounter and subsequent email revel, they learn who the other has been all along. I laughed out loud several times, and giggled like a school girl as well. I will read this one again and again,
Rosie and the Dreamboat: 4 stars. Rosie gets herself stuck in a salt float tank and a firefighter is there to talk her off the panic ledge. Laugh out loud fun - Leo (aka Romeo) uses his sharp wit to keep Rosie calm while they work to get her freed from the tank. I giggled several times at poor Rosie's predicament and how her firefighter kept her engaged in conversation and distracted from her situation. Wish I had more to read of Rosie and Leo.
With Any Luck: 2.5 stars, this one didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Audrey has memory loss and trying to retrace her steps to figure out what happened the previous night, did she kiss her best friend the groom and cause him to run off? She is the best "man" and Rhett is the "maid" of honor of their best friends. He is now trying to help her find the groom. I never felt the connection between the characters.
Royal Valentine: 2.5 stars, Princess Ilaria and her assistant trade places, she meets a photographer who doesn't recognize her, He was Scottish and the writing had me scratching my head more than one time, Very choppy, and left me not caring what happened at the end, They both had secrets but I didn't even care if the secrets caused them to go their separate ways,
Worst Wingman Ever: 5 stars I laughed and I cried, so automatic 5 stars. Leave it to Abby to achieve that even in a short story! Holly and John meet after he leaves a Valentine on her car that was meant for his brother's girlfriend (hence the worst wingman title). They leave notes and little gifts for one another on Holly's car until one day he shows up at her place, he is the maintenance man, he sees the bobble head he let for her in her kitchen and they realize who they are to each other, I so with there was a full length novel of these two!
These were cute easy reads to set the mood for Valentines Day. Yes, they were a little predictable but that was fine with me because they were so short. I liked all of them, and wish a few could be full length novels. My favorites were Abby Jimenez and Christina Lauren's stories. I recommend these for a quick easy reads when you need just a taste of romance.
Adorable! Yes some of it is predictable but still very cute stories. Light and easy and fun read! Would recommend for anyone to read for a good and easy read! This book adds fun to reading!
What a wonderful collection of short stories. They are a perfect read when you only have a little bit of time, or have to go back and forth but not want to lose their spot in the book. My favorite of all of them had to have been by Christina Lauren followed by Abby Jimenez. Sometimes you just need an intro to ROM COM and not have a full drive in. Most definitely would love to read a compilation like this again!
What a fun set of stories. I loved each once for different reasons, all of them had me laughing and wanting more. Each one was a quick read definitely want to check these out. Special thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my gifted copy of these
Thank you to the authors, NetGalley, and Amazon Original Stories for a copy of the ARC in exchange of an honest review.
These six novellas were so cute to read. I love how quick they all were and could devour each one in one sitting. The six romance authors really know how to pack a lot into a little. All six had Easter eggs calling back to other books in the collection and it was so fun when I noticed them and felt like they all fit together. My favorite was Christina Lauren's The Exception to the Rule.
This collection of short meet-cute stories by 6 beloved romance authors was the most fun to read! The quality of story varied pretty greatly, but I had a good time reading them all. Christina Lauren takes the cake with theirs. I could NOT get enough of the two MCs and like many others I’ve seen here on Instagram would LOVE an entire novel of their story. 🩷 A few of the stories dove into steam that felt highly unnecessary/unbelievable considering the length of the story being told. All in all though, I highly recommend this little collection.
This is a fantastic collection of short stories with sweet, fun, and sometimes funny meet cutes. I did like some more than others, but each was enjoyable. They all did a nice job writing a full story with an HEA even with the short story length.
My three favorites were the stories from Christina Lauren, Abby Jimenez, and Sally Thorne. I loved the set ups for each of their characters' meet cutes and I didn't want to put them down once I had started reading.
This was really cute! My favourite was definitely the one by Christina Lauren - I loved the letter/email component to it!
The first two stories in this book were EVERYTHING. totally rereaders!
I loved the premise that these are all stories taking place on Valentines day!
There were a few stories that weren't for me at all. And a few that were pretty cute! But definitely the two to shout out for me were Abby Jimenez's book (which let the record show IS a tear jerker) and the Christina Lauren book- which isn't a tear jerker but is an epistolary romance which I love!
overall rating- 4 out of 5 stars!
Oh. My. Sweetness!
This book was curated by some of the best RomCom authors and I ate it up! Some of these short stories NEED to be longer… I am equally impressed that they were able to churn out a short story that made me feel all those built up feelings that you normally get from a romcom.
The first story, The Exception to the Rule, was adorable! This brought me back to my college days and even high school where you would send a message over AIM or email… and wait for that cute boy to write back.
Terra and Callum are accidental penpals. When he accidentally emails her instead of his teacher, they continue to write to each other on Valentine’s Day for the next 10 years. Seeing as they are minors, they do not give out personal information, but they continue to write to one another and have small talk about their lives. Their relationship grows through each interaction, and they secretly want to meet the other person. Then one coincidental night, an accidental meet up happens, does one of them realize who the other person is. I thought this was adorably done, and I would not mind seeing these characters again in another novel!
The second short story, Worst Wingman Ever, was done by the infamous Abby Jimenez. And she’s just one of my favorite authors! Holly and John are just the sweetest. Holly is a hospice nurse, caring for her grandmother, while also nursing her own broken heart. She’s exhausted in so many ways, but when a stranger puts a Valentine’s Day note on her car, instead of the intended car, it sparks a little joy in her life. John, who is working his way through his break up, is the worst wingman ever. He plants a note on the wrong car, but ends up enjoying their back and forth notes. While he fixes up the units in his building, he learns many new things about his neighbors. I loved the way their story unfolded and how genuine each of them were! Their story ended too too fast though!
The third short story was called Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne. Rosie and Bree are sisters and are spending Valentine’s Day at the spa together. When Rosie gets herself stuck in an unusual situation, Leo is there to save the day. Some of their conversations were cute, some was just weird… this sadly wasn’t my favorite.
The fourth short story, called Drop, Cover, and Hold On revolves around Daisy and Harris. The start of it… made me kind of annoyed at Daisy. Her self-hate and projections on the Baker who owned the bakery and her indecisiveness on pastries… I don’t know what it was. It just irked me. Then, as she’s questioning her life choices, there is a pretty serious earthquake and Daisy gets trapped in his bakery with no way out. And of course it’s Valentine’s Day. Harris seemed a little off with flirting, Daisy kept questioning him, and his ability to smile. Shouldn’t he hate her, she keeps thinking. I liked the he fell first love story , but I wish she had more confidence. Steamy little ending sure helped solidify their growth.
In the fifth short story, called With Any Luck, is by Ashley Poston who wrote The Dead Romantics, one of my favorite books! I was excited to jump into this one! Rhett and Audie have been best friends for ten years. His relationship track record hasn’t always been reliable, so when he gets engaged to actress Carmilla after only 6 months, she’s questioning her friends choices. But, as she plans his bachelor party, she has no choice but to support him. When she arrives she sees Carmilla’s best friend, and he is someone she wasn’t looking to run into again. Theo irks her, and his handsome smug face will be engraved in her brain all weekend. This was a cute story and I wouldn’t mind seeing these characters again!
The last and final short story is called Royal Valentine. When Princess Ilaria wants a break, she begs her assistant Anne to trade spots for just two days. She wants some time to breathe before the big ball. When she winds up in Callum’s apartment, she starts a journey that she’s dreamed of. She roams around making memories with Callum, not wanting this time to end. When their secrets are revealed, they have to see if they can find a spot in each other’s lives. Super adorable story.

What a sweet collection of short stories! It is difficult to give an in-depth review due to the short length of these stories, however overall I found them quick enjoyable, particularly the first two stories. I did think some of the stories were a bit ambitious in their relationships which led them to be less believable - you can only do so much in 40 pages. This is a great collection for romance readers to enjoy over the Valentines Day season, and contain bite-sized reads which can be enjoyed in under an hour.
