A gripping romantic suspense that will have you hooked to the very end!
I received an ARC from Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
One of my favorite writers of Romantic Suspense is Elizabeth Goddard. Her stories include the right amount of romance, suspense, a mystery to solve, a missing person and in this case a manuscript to find.
I just finished reading the third book in her Alaskan series titled "Hidden in the Night. It was a riveting read from start to finish. I was totally absorbed in the narrative, the setting, and felt like I was traveling with the team as they searched for the next clue that would lead them to the location of Jack London’s misplaced manuscript.
I loved how the author expressed her admiration for writer Jack London in her note to readers, and how she included him in this story. You won’t want to miss this incredible journey, the stunning beauty of Alaska, the interesting and quirky locals, and Alaska’s dangerous wilderness.
This is a wonderful novel that would make for lively discussion at your book club.

I was really interested in this book based on the plot! It sounded like a treasure hunt and a suspense book wrapped into one. Searching for a missing manuscript and elements of danger! I wish I had read the previous books in this series prior to diving in to this book. I was a little lost to a bit of the back story of the characters and definitely would have benefited from learning who was who in the previous books. All that said this book had a good mystery that will keep the reader guessing, a fast romance and I absolutely love it when suspense books are set in Alaska! Readers of suspense will likely enjoy this final book in the Missing in Alaska series!
Hidden in the Night is another winner for Goddard. First of all I’d like to say I just loved the setting, the beautiful setting that takes place in frozen Alaska, where danger lurks beneath the icy surface. I mean that literally . There is so much mystery, danger and suspense in this whodunit that will keep you guessing what is really going on and who is behind all of this? It opens with our heroine Ivy, finding a murdered man in an isolated cabin. Then a chain of events and then she is the object of murder. She flees for her life but yet she is stubborn and refuses to leave and return to her home in Sunny Florida. She intends to get to the bottom of this along with a previous acquaintance Nolan, who is an Alaskan state trooper. What a book! A Missing Girl. Human Trafficking. Sabotage. It has it all and this makes for a very exciting read….. thankful to receive an e copy of Hidden in the Night from Revell via NetGalley Happy to leave my review.
This story takes place in Alaska where it has been said it is the perfect place one may go to hide Ivnever be found.
Ivy has left her home in Florida, as well as her dying mother to go to Alaska to search for a manuscript. Her deceased father's friend and business partner has threatened to tell Ivy's mother a horrible secret about her late husband if Ivy doesn't retrieve the valuable manuscript for him. Ivy doesn't want to leave her mother, but would do just about anything to protect her and her father's memory.
Ivy meets back up with State Trooper, Nolan, that she'd apparently met and had feelings for in a previous book in this series. They end up working together to find the manuscript.
Then, there's a missing girl, Danna that Nolan is trying to find. She is tied in to the missing manuscript.
For me, it was difficult to keep up with all the things from the previous books in the series that were being mentioned. I was just lost. I have read many books that was part of a series, and it didn't matter if you hadn't read the ones before it. For me, this one mattered. A lot. The story made a lot of references to the previous characters, etc. and I was lost. I forged on through to the end, however.
This story had many twists and turns.
I was given an advanced copy by the publisher, Revell, through Netgalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.
"...even though she wasn’t a damsel in distress, she could appreciate a hero when she saw one, or in this case, when that hero was focused on protecting her. She wanted to hold his hand, lean against his shoulder, and look out over the beauty that was Alaska."
First off, this book cover caught my eye and really stood out from all the other ARCS on Netgalley. It's an exceptionally beautiful cover and paired perfectly with the covers of the other books in this series that has sadly come to end.
Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting invested in this story, and didn't enjoy it as much as the two previous books.
For one thing, it felt like there was no clues to help you solve or work through the mystery until you neared the end of the book. That was a bummer. The other problem I've laid out below.
Negative Content
When searching for leads to a case Nolan and Ivy are both working on, they stay at a lodge in two separate rooms. After an incident happens, Nolan insists on Ivy staying in his room. This is wrong for two reasons:
1. They're not married, thus anyone who notices them rooming together can easily figure they're shacking or doing a "stand", which damages their reputations and especially his as a law enforcement officer.
2. They're alone instead of with other friends to guard and protect each other (like the girls could room together, and the guys could room together) leaving themselves open and more prone to the temptation to do wrong.
Nolan insisting on Ivy staying with him was a terrible decision, but he also wasn't in a place of authority over her to insist on it. This came across to me as alpha male vibes, and I didn't care for that at all.
Ivy remembers seeing a shirtless Nolan and how chiseled he was. She only saw him like this because they were sharing a room and he had just showered (which shouldn't have happened, although nothing else did.)
While those were the only inappropriate things in this book, I didn't appreciate them being there in the first place and was disappointed to read them in a otherwise Christian book.
Because of the content mentioned above, I don't recommend this book.
I received a complimentary e-book from Revell Books to review through Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.
4.5 stars
I have very much enjoyed Elizabeth Goddard’s Missing in Alaska series, and while I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters Hidden in the Night was a lovely way to do so. (It’s not necessary to have read the previous two books in the series, but because we get to catch up with those main characters too, you will likely enjoy it on a different level if you have read them.)
We already know Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long as the brother of Shadow Gap Police Chief Autumn Long Brenner, but in Hidden in the Night we get to learn more of his story. I really enjoyed diving into the layers that have shaped him and understanding more clearly what has motivated him… not to mention his complicated feelings for the ‘Sunshine Girl’ that got away – Ivy Elliott. Ivy has one of the coolest jobs, in my opinion. She’s a former FBI agent who is currently moonlighting as a rare book collector/investigator, and she’s in Alaska to track down a valuable lost manuscript by Jack London. I mean… what?!? Can you imagine getting to do that?
Unfortunately of course, the hunt, the reason for it, and the events leading up to it do not produce smooth sailing – this is a suspense novel, after all – and Goddard puts Nolan and Ivy through the fight of their lives… for their lives. Alaska throws out enough obstacles on its own, from dangerous blizzards to intense wind storms to deadly cold, but they also have to contend with several people who are out to interfere with the search and don’t care if Nolan and Ivy are wounded (or worse) in the process. I was on pins and needles more than once and made the mistake of relaxing far too soon far too many times (haha). Like our intrepid main characters, I wasn’t sure who to trust, who was behind things, and who/what was a red herring. I cleverly solved this dilemma by reading this book all in one sitting, not daring to put it down until I had all my answers. Sleep? nah. Food? I can snack while I read. Shower? I had one the day before. Work? It will still be there tomorrow. I was too invested in Nolan and Ivy, their swoony chemistry, and their heart-racing investigation(s) to spend time on such necessities.
Bottom Line: Hidden in the Night by Elizabeth Goddard is a pulse-pounding romantic suspense that uses the wild elements of Alaska to ramp up the tension, an ever-evolving roster of pursuers and villains to keep you frantically turning the pages, a sweet romance to uplift your heart, and moving faith threads to remind you of the Source of our help. The characters – new and familiar – are engaging and relatable and the various plot threads fit together seamlessly. I was solidly invested in this story, and I highly recommend this whole series!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
This book is book 3 of the Missing in Alaska series a Christian Mystery Romance. Ivy, a former special agent and now rare-book collector, sets out to Alaska for to get an unpublished manuscript, only to find it missing. She is determined to find this script, only she finds a girl that needs her help. She can't turn her back on this girl. Nolan, Alaska State Trooper, is on the case and Ivy joins forces with him to save this missing girl. Can they stay safe and bring justice to this girl? What happened to the script and where does this take Ivy? Can Nolan keep Ivy in his life? Does he want more than friends?
If you like a suspense read, pick up this book. It is book 3 of the series, but can be read as a stand alone. It is a page turner with drama that tugs at your heart. You can't help cheering for Ivy and her adventure. I enjoyed reading this mystery as it had twist and turns until the end.

Former FBI agent turned rare-book collector, Ivy Elliott returns to Alaska at the request of her mother. Her mission is to secure and protect an unpublished manuscript written by Jack London. The book has been kept a secret for decades. But, when Ivy arrives in Alaska the manuscript is no where to be found. Ivy stops at nothing to locate the manuscript and save the girl that has it. Ivy partners with Nolan Long an Alaska State Trooper to find the manuscript and the girl. But with no help from the Alaska elements, the temperature and the snow is falling, but the search must continue.
Hidden in the Night written by author Elizabeth Goddard is an amazingly written story full of suspense, romance, and faith. This wonderful and captivating story had me on the edge of my seat from cover to cover. With my heart beating faster and faster, I flipped the pages as fast as possible. Goddard is a phenomenal author that knows how to immediately pull the reader in to the pages and not letting them go until the end. The detailed description of Glacier Bay Alaska was perfection, and I welcomed the return to one of the most beautiful places on earth. I shivered as I read about the blizzard and felt like I needed a jacket. This story played like a movie in my mind’s eye. I’m sad that this phenomenal series has come to an end but it makes me look forward to read more stories by this fantastic author. I highly recommend this unputdownable ten star read.
I would put this as my favorite Elizabeth Goddard book to date. It was suspenseful and kept me guessing. I was right with who I thought the killer was, but I was given a LOT of doubt. I honestly forgot about my original suspect until the very end. I adore Mark. And Dani grew a lot as a character.
Can't wait for the next one to come out!
This is a continuation of the Alaskan series. It was nice to see the old characters. I enjoyed this book than the others in this series. This book did not seem as 'dark' as the others. I really enjoyed how it ended and the authors notes at the end.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with guidelines.
If you’ve ever wanted to visit Alaska “Hidden in the Night” is an exciting outing for you. Besides the unique and fascinating setting, it includes danger, suspense, betrayal, intrigue, romance, and lovely elements of faith. What more could a reader ask for?
I’ve read each book in this series, and they just keep getting better and better. If you haven’t read the previous titles—no worries. This works well all on its own.
Ivy and Nolan are believable and memorable characters. Ivy is easy to connect with and empathize with as she deals with her past, and Nolan is everything I want in a hero. He’s a protector at heart and is so committed.
This story had me on the edge of my seat and I truly didn’t want it to end. What a satisfying close to the series!

Former FBI special agent Ivy Elliot travels to Alaska in search of the lost manuscript of an unpublished Jack London book. The fabled work would be the perfect addition to the rare book collection started by her sister and father before their deaths. But when Ivy arrives, she discovers the manuscript is gone, and so is the young woman whose grandmother owned it. The search for a missing book soon turns into the search for a vulnerable girl who has previously been targeted by traffickers. Joined by Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, Ivy must face a blizzard, sabotage and the dangers of an Alaskan winter in her search for the missing girl and book.
We had anticipated this third installment in Goddard’s Missing In Alaska series. Book one introduced us to some key characters and we really felt like book two set a higher bar. We were glad to learn more about Autumn’s Alaska State Trooper brother, Nolan Long, in this third book.
Unfortunately, the storyline seemed to wander and include unnecessary avenues. We were three-fourths of the way into the book before we felt like we were reading the main story. However, the Author’s Note explained some of this meandering. Jack London’s The Call of the Wild is a classic for sure and Goddard paid tribute to him in this closing section with some of his own words, “The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” We are not familiar with London’s personal faith, but this sure hit home to us as Christians. We are to use the days God allows us to live for His glory and shine bright in a darkened world. Perhaps that sheds new meaning on Alaska’s aurora borealis.
We received an advance copy from the publisher. This is our honest review.
Hidden in the Night takes us back to Shadow Gap, Alaska, in the third book of the Missing in Alaska series. Like the earlier books, it is a great suspense that only Elizabeth Goddard can do.
Ivy, a former FBI agent, goes to Alaska to help her mother find valuable Jack London novel that is one of her last wishes to have. While there she instantly has the help of Nolan, an Alaska State Trooper, whom she had met earlier. The search for the novel has them end up searching for a missing girl and a murderer.
The book has suspense as the main storyline with a little romance added and fans of the genre will love it. While the book is part of a series, it's a great stand alone.
I received a complimentary copy of Hidden in the Night, but all opinions are my own.
A riveting and suspenseful story! Bold characters that are easy to connect with and you easily grow attached to. A brilliant fast pace plot that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. With all the danger at every turn don’t be surprised if you find yourself holding your breath. Throw in romance that has barely got started but has tons of chemistry and you have an incredible book that is bound to be an award winning read! There is just something about the Alaskan landscape that only adds to the power of the story.
Was given a complementary copy. All opinions are my own.
It is with great success that Elizabeth Goddard presents the final installment of her Missing in Alaska series, Hidden in the Night. This new release gives us the story of Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long and Ivy Elliott, the Sunshine Girl who stole his heart and took it home to Florida with her. Ivy returns to Shadow Gap to track down a lost manuscript of an unknown Jack London novel, only to find herself up to her ears in snow and intrigue. Together, Jack and Ivy are racing to find the missing girl who is the last person known to have the manuscript and someone is hot on their trail to keep them from finding it. Goddard writes suspense like nobody’s business and Hidden in the Night is no exception. Danger lurks around every corner, seemingly two steps ahead of our heroes, with more red herrings than a pack of Swedish Fish. Her characters are relatable and there are those we have come to know throughout the series who resurface to welcome us back to the once peaceful Alaskan town and its local hangout, The Lively Moose. With her careful crafting, Hidden in the Night reads like a standalone, but I personally recommend reading the entire Missing in Alaska series to get to really know the wonderful people of Shadow Gap.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.
This book was a thrill ride from beginning to end. Ivy and Nolan had instant chemistry when they first met. That is confirmed once again when they meet up unexpectedly in Alaska again. Ivy has come to look for a lost manuscript and Nolan, as an Alaska State Trooper is investigating a murder that Ivy has stumbled upon. This book keeps you guessing. So many interesting plot theories. I loved all the adventure and trying to figure out who was behind it all. I would definitely recommend this book.
Yowzer! Hidden in the Night is an adrenaline rush that continues through the last page. Ivy and Nolan get caught up in a regular whodunit of epic proportions. Why is an old manuscript worth killing for? Ivy and Nolan must stay ahead of the baddies without knowing who is behind the carnage.
This author always leaves me on the edge of my seat and wondering how the books will end. Her writing is crisp, the stories fast-paced and and include very satisfying endings. Good always triumphs!
5 stars!
This third installment in the Missing Alaska series (each book can be read as a standalone), was intriguing, included a missing person, a murder, a lost manuscript with an unknown danger in trying to recover it, and a sweet building romance.
Though I enjoyed this story, for some reason I did not find it as suspenseful as the prior books in this series. For me the danger and action and suspense only really grabbed me in that can’t-put-down plot I love around the last 30% of the story.
Still, there was a lot happening which led to an action packed mystery.
I feel like this book truly could have been ripped from the headlines. This is one of those stories that will keep you guessing and wondering what is going to happen next. I love stories that are based in Alaska this author always has a way of making you feel like you are right there and can visually see what's the characters see. I really liked Ivy she was a fighter and set aside her own wants for those who needed her more. I liked Nolan as well to me though because of his job and things he as seen and faced he seemed very reserved however he wanted and fought for what was right. Overall this was a amazing read I had the hardest time putting it down.
