This is a really cute story about a trip to the museum and overcoming fears. I thought the Spanish words could’ve been incorporated into the story better as this was the first I read from the series and was a little confused as to what words they decided to include in Spanish. The story itself was interesting but the plot was very basic and I thought they could’ve delved more into how to actually deal with fears.
Good story for kids learning to read that are ready for a chapter book that is not too long. Good for reluctant readers. Part of a series with cousins which adds to the fun.
I am always on the hunt for good beginning readers / chapter books to add to my community library, but Fright at the Museum just didn't grab me. It really should have been just a picture book, as there is little point to having only three chapters, in my opinion. Several Spanish words are randomly thrown in, and only a couple of them have enough context around them that a young child might have a shot at figuring out what it means...and having to go back and forth to the end of the book to look at the glossary will just get frustrating for them. On top of that, there is very little plot...they pick up at the beginning of their field trip, randomly talk about being afraid of a dinosaur skeleton, a random room of birds, and then back to a larger dinosaur skeleton where they get scared all over again.
We need to encourage better literature for our kids. This, sadly, isn't it. The pictures were cute though.
This is a fun series, their outings are always fun and educational. We also learn a few Spanish words. These books can be read as standalone adventures. Each book addresses a worry or fear that children sometimes have (relatable) and is always well explained and solved according to the theme. In this one, they gain confidence and turn fear into knowledge as they spend one night at the museum. I love dinosaurs and to learn facts about them. Easy to read and to use as a reading/classroom tool.
This series's first sequel is as subtlety-free as the first, and just as laden with annoying cousins. Here they and their school trip are going to spend the night under the watchful 'eye' of a mahoosive dinosaur, at the natural history museum. Oddly enough they haven't realised that, so they get the heebie-jeebies, then they realise it's dead, the end. We learn the benefits of friendship, ice cream and smattering our lingo with Spanish words, but that's about it – even the script calls the dino something and then decides it's a T-rex, when it clearly isn't. Better options are available.

I fun, short chapter book about spending the night at a museum. I little Spanish lesson with some words thrown into the story (a glossary is at the end in case your not sure of the meaning) It was a good story about being scared, finding help in others and calming down. I enjoyed the questions at the end too.
Fright at the Museum is a cute story about two cousins who go on a field trip to a natural history museum with their class. They get to spend the night at the museum sleeping next to the exhibits. But when they find out the exhibit they’ll be sleeping next to is the humongous T. rex with big, sharp teeth, they’re not excited, they’re scared.
This book is perfect for 1st-3rd graders who may be going on their first field trip and not know what to expect.
Fright at the Museum has short chapters and lots of illustrations. The book is only 48 pages long, so it’s also perfect for older readers who are struggling to read at grade level.
Thanks to North Star Editions and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
A class trip to the museum sounded like fun until the cousins got scared of the dinosaurs that were in the room where they'd overnight.
The illustrations by Adriana Predoi are simple and compliment the story very nicely.
Perfect for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, especially to a school, church library, or your local public library!

Maria and Mateo are back and enjoying an overnight at the Natural History Museum with their class. When they learn they'll be staying in the same room with the largest dinosaur skeleton, they get scared. A friend helps them calm down and explore the other areas of the museum. Then, when evening comes, Maria and Mateo discover that everyone is nervous/scared including their teacher. I appreciate this series for lower elementary. The stories connect to experiences readers have with their classes. Though they may not be the same, the emotions and reactions are similar. Brightly colored illustrations keep the story light. The discussion questions at the end will launch dialogue for classes and families.
Thank you so much to Jolly Fish Press and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Maria and Mateo are having a sleep over at the museum, but they are scared when they learn they’ll be in the room with a giant man eating dinosaur. They have a fun day walking round looking at all the exhibits, but the final exhibit scares everyone including their teacher.
Really sweet, it’s only natural to be scared and I liked the way that this was written, showing the different levels of fear they all had. Even Lana who wasn’t scared at first as she’d been there before got a bit scared of the final exhibit, but with team work and Maria figuring out how to help to overcome her own and everyone else’s fears.
I really enjoy these books the characters are always so cute, they get the cutest stories, they learn so much but they are always so different and fun to read. I love the beautiful illustrations, the dinosaurs were drawn so well you could see why they were all scared. I loved getting to see more of Lana in the book, she showed them how not to be scared the first time. The book also offers facts, questions and a glossary of the Spanish words used within this story, which I always love seeing be included.

This book was a very fun read for kids. The story was adorable. It will be a great book for kids.
Maria and Mateo are back and this time at a school trip on the museum. When they learn they are going to be spending the night by the T-Rex skeleton, they are scared. However, they learn to conquer their fears.
This is cute, and has a glossary of Spanish-English words at the back, plus facts about dinosaurs. The plot is pretty simple, but it does a good job highlighting museums.

Cute little book about fears and how to confront them. Would be a lovely little addition to a young child's library.
I do wish, however, that it had went further into how to actually confront your fears and really linger on that fact. Perhaps provide some advice on it through the story.
At the same time I really liked the inclusion of the questions in the end. Hopefully, this would be read with a loving adult whom the child could discuss the book with and gain some advice on how to deal with your fears concretely.
You will be hooked after reading this book. The adventures will leave you wanting to read about the adventures of Maria and Mate series. I was unsure what to expect when I requested it, and I am so happy I did. I felt like I was in the museum going through the museum and all these children's feelings. What a fantastic book for younger readers.
Maria and Mateo are excited to go with their class to an overnight field trip to the natural history museum. At least they were excited until they realize they will be sleeping with massive dinosaurs. The cousins and their classmates quickly learn that they are not alone in their fear of the dinosaurs and must band together and be brave. A cute chapter book for early readers complete with discussion questions at the end.

Fright at the Museum is a great story for young children to learn about how to express themselves when they are scared or nervous. It can also help them build confidence in trying new things even if they are nervous.
This is a cute chapter book for children who are just starting to branch into them. It's apart of the Maria and Mateo Go on Field Trips series. I think kids will enjoy following this cast to different locations. And they'll be able to relate based on the field trips they themselves are attending. The length is especially great for reluctant readers.
