As much as I adore Freida McFadden’s novels, I don’t think sequels are her best suit.
The Housemaid Is Watching just felt too much like her previous novels in the series, and I feel that McFadden has downplayed Millie’s characterization. In The Housemaid, Millie is fantastic and you are left enthralled by her. By now, in the third installment, Millie’s character had no substance and just contributed according to the plot. I’m still a huge fan of McFadden, and I will be in the look out for more of her novels, but this one was not her best work.
Wow, another great psychological thriller from this author. Some great twists and turns you’ll never see coming throughout this story.
Had a hard time following the storyline of this third book in the Housemaid series because the story was further in the characters life. Spoiler alert- you'll understand the title at the end of the book!
The third installment of the Housemaid series in my opinion is just as good as the rest. Freida McFadden has this amazing ability to give you twist after twist until your eyeballs are swimming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Of course Mom is going to say to use your words, and Dad is going to hand me a big knife.”
I’m kind of addicted to Millie.
Literally nothing compares to the first book… that was off the charts amazing! But I enjoyed this book, seeing Millie in a “normal” life setting with her family. I liked the change in time and focus. We see her as a mom and her relationship with her husband Enzo. Her family moves into a new house and their neighbors are absolutely insane. I mean one keeps her kid on a leash right up to him walking onto the school bus and the other neighbor cant keep her hands off Enzo! I didn’t want to guess the ending—I was so sure I knew the twist and the end. And I was wrong both times, which I love!! I looked forward to reading it everyday. @Freida Mcfadden, keep those housemaid books coming please!!! You are the queen of the domestic thriller!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!!
The Housemaid is Watching is the third installment in the Housemaid series by Freida McFadden. I am a big fan of her books and was not disappointed by this newest release.
Milie and Enzo now have two kids and are moving out of their tiny Bronx apartment to the suburbs. They found a house that is slightly out of budget, but they got it below the asking price and are willing to make it work.. However, as soon as they move in, things start to feel a little off. First, Millie is pretty sure that she has seen someone watching their house from a window across the street. Next, she begins hearing a scratching noise in the middle of the night that she swears is coming from inside the house. Then their children start acting strange, and she thinks it's more than just them adjusting to the move.
I don't want to give away any major plot points, but I will say there’s another case of false accusations. Millie must unravel the stories swirling around. As is usually the case in Freida McFadden's books, things are never what they seem.
I can't stop recommending Freida McFadden's books to everyone who listens to me. They pull you in from the first sentence. The setup is great, the characters are adorable, and the twists have you puzzling for half the book before you find out what's really going on. I hope this book is made into a movie, and I can't wait to watch it.
The Housemaid is Watching by Frieda McFadden is a great end to the Housemaid series. Not only do why get to see where Millie and Enzos' relationship is years after getting together, we also get to know their children. At the same time, we are introduced to a new set of characters, which are the family's new neighbors after their recent move. I don't want to accidentally give any spoilers away, so I will just say that this one will keep you on the edge of your seat!
I’m forever a Freida fan girl, McFan, Freidah Readah…I was elated to get a jump start on “The Housemaid is Watching” and absolutely love the other two in this series. To say it’s the perfect campfire read is an understatement. I stayed up all night devouring every page to get to Freida’s signature twist. Slow-burn and then a surge of what-the-crazy explosion of text. I need a fourth book now! You’ll want to read this with your book club, by the pool, and on your next camping trip. I can’t wait to get my physical copy to add to my bookshelf.
I am reeling! I just finished this third and final Housemaid book. Of course, with any series, not every book will be equally enjoyable, so I kept my expectations fairly low for this one. I shouldn’t have, though, because it was more than I could have hoped for!
Freida McFadden approaches the third installment very differently from the first two, and creatively so. Millie and Enzo are now eleven years into their marriage and parenting, attempting to achieve a normal life after all they have been through together.
I feel that this book really works because many readers are invested in these characters. McFadden has done a wonderful job bringing us to where the characters are now.
On all fronts, I found this book excellent. The pacing was well-timed. I have already mentioned the likable characters, but I will add that I enjoyed how this story focused a lot more on Enzo. Some of the twists and surprises were more satisfying than others. Overall, I deem this last Housemaid novel one that neatly and entertainingly wraps up the trilogy.

Quick take:
- Classic FMcF cold open with an unnamed dead person and an unknown other person covered in blood and freaking out. (Love!)
- Enzo is still a-riding the inconsistent accent a-rollercoaster.
- Overall this was surprisingly, disappointingly very boring, especially the first half. I expected (and hoped for) much more craziness from Millie, but I guess everyone slows down a bit after they have kids and approach middle age. 🤷🏻♀️
- No Louboutins or turtles (other than Millie saying she hates turtles, which made me laugh)
I think fans of the first two books (which should definitely be read first or this one makes no sense) are going to eat this up, which is great! I loved book one, did not like book two, and was very much in the middle for this one. I’m glad I got to see a bit of Millie’s future because she’s a fun character, but I kind of hope she’s retired after this book.
Continuing the story of the housemaid. Millie is older, married to Enzo and they have two kids. But when they move into a new house, the twists begin.
It started a little slow, but in true Freida McFadden style it amped up and gave me a twist. The housemaid is now a home owner and living her dream life with husband and 2 children. Except their dream home comes with a nosey neighbor and a flirty neighbor and life isn’t turning out quite as perfect as they thought. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced reader’s copy.
The Housemaid Is Watching by Freida McFadden is a fast paced Domestic Thriller with some Great Twists! This is the 3rd book in The Housemaid series and definitely did not disappoint!
I would highly recommend this series.

Holy Cannoli! Millie is back, better than ever.
NYT bestselling author Freida McFadden (a favorite) returns with her popular Housemaid series The Housemaid #1, The Housemaid's Secret #2, with her latest, THE HOUSEMAID IS WATCHING #3 —where we catch up with the former housemaid we all love, now all GROWN UP with a husband and children, a beautiful home, family, and her own housekeeper.
However, her past comes back to haunt her when someone learns of her past secrets in this deliciously wicked, twisty thriller written with the author's signature dark humor!
About...
Millie (former housemaid) is happily married to hunky Enzo, and they have two children (Nico and Ada). She is so excited to be moving into their new home, Number 14 Locust Street (Long Island— a little cul-de-sac with two other houses.
Her husband knows about her past, but of course, not her children. She has to pinch herself to believe she is finally living the life she has always dreamed of.
There is a house across the street, Number 13 and someone is staring at her from the window. Who is watching? Do they know about her past?
Welcome to the neighborhood. Let the games begin...
The neighborhood is strange as Suzette and Jonathan Lowell are next door and Suzette is a flirt (with Enzo). Their maid (Martha) gives Millie strange looks. Enzo is in the landscaping business, and Suzette is in real estate, so Enzo says she can refer clients to him.
However, things get intense when Enzo hires the same housekeeper (the one next door) to help out his wife. Millie does not trust her. Enzo likes helping out women in need since he could not save his sister in the past.
Then things become intense with Nico, their son, and the neighbor's house. Things are not as they seem. The kids have secrets from their parents. What are they afraid of?
Then there is a MURDER next door. Who is the killer? What is going on next door? What happens behind closed doors? Did they make a big mistake moving to this neighborhood?
My thoughts...
THE HOUSEMAID IS WATCHING is one of my favorites, and Freida McFadden is once again at the top of her game with this dynamite domestic thriller, which keeps you on the edge with one twist after another. I enjoyed this cleverly written murder mystery, how all the storylines collided, and the connection between the characters. It's a fantastic series.
Darkly funny, scandalous, and utterly satisfying!
From chilling secrets, lies, deception, and a murder mystery, the author dazzles and hooks you from the Prologue to the Epilogue with this fun psychological thriller with a well-developed cast of characters! Destined to fly off the shelves.
I loved the dark humor. You will root for Millie, Enzo, Nico, and Ada all the way to the end! Loved Ada (she takes after her mom). Another 5 STARS + hit! McFadden fans will devour THE HOUSEMAID IS WATCHING! I hope we see more of Millie and her family in the future.
Recs...
A cracker of a read! I highly recommend this to McFadden fans and those of this series, as well as fans of Kaira Rouda and Jeneva Rose. (all favs).

Millie and her hubby Enzo finally buy the home of their dreams at below asking cost.
After moving in, they meet their two neighbors. One is a nosy busybody with an overzealous need to keep her child safe. The other is a wealthy couple, the Lowells. Let’s just say they would’ve been better off never having met them.
One thing leads to another until disaster strikes.

Doggone it, Frieda has done it again! This is a fast-paced story that keeps you guessing to the end.
Each character has you wondering if they are hiding something or if their outward appearances are accurate. I love the snarky comments Suzette & Janice make mainly because of Millie’s inner responses to them.
There were a couple of odd occurrences that made me shake my head, but people are weird, and it is fiction. So that is that.
Overall, I loved this book! It was one I read until late into the night because I couldn’t put it down.
💕Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.
I had not read the first two Housemaid books, but after reading this one, I immediately downloaded them. Freida McFadden does a fine job of creating characters you like, but may find just a little unnerving. I never know exactly how I feel about Millie other than I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I admire her grit and determination, while at the same time thinking she should maybe be a little less nosy. The book is probably a near-perfect summer read and will find fans in those who enjoy domestic suspense and strong female characters.
This third book in the housemaid’s tales is just as exciting as the other two. In this book, Millie is now happily married to Enzo and has two elementary aged kids. Buying a new home on Long Idland comes with a price! A nosy neighbor, a creepy housekeeper, and a flirty realtor all prove to be problematic. McFadden lays on the twists and the reader will be surprised..
The latest in the series by Freida McFadden. As usual so enjoyable and fans of thrillers will love it. Her books are always such an easy read and yet so well done with attention to detail and this one is no exception. I was blown away by the ending.
Millie and Enzo are back for a third installment of the Housemaid series. They are all grown up and settled down with their little family, kids Nico and Ada. Millie is a social worker at a hospital and Enzo has a landscaping business. They have moved from their tiny apartment in the Bronx into a home on Long Island. Millie is thrilled, even though the house payment is stretching them thin. The kids are not as thrilled, having left their friends behind in the middle of the school year. The neighbors are questionable, either really nosy or plain uppity. Millie really starts to worry about Nico….and rightfully so as things start to unravel.
This was Freida good….I always enjoy her books. I think even when we love characters and are so attached to them, it’s still hard to eke out a third book that is as great as the first two. I actually had this one “mostly” figured out, but she is always able to throw in something I didn’t see coming. This was a solid end to a great trilogy!
