Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader copy of this book. One never knows what life will bring. This story proves that. The third book of a series is always a tricky one to read. McFadden does a fabulous job of keeping this series fresh. Twists and unbelievable turns make this a great read. Even after reading all of her other books, she surprised me in the end. 5 stars!!

The final book in the Housemaid series is not to be missed! We meet Millie again when she is in her forties and has children of her own. After moving into a home on Long Island, Millie thinks her dreams have come true: great school district, home of her own, big backyard. But there’s something sinister lurking beneath the surface. With plenty of McFadden’s trademark twists, the plot thickens and no one in the neighborhood is safe from suspicion.

The first thing I loved about this book was the author's sense of humor. Naturally, I love it when Freida uses alliteration in her stories as well. I thought it was also interesting to see our beloved Millie in a new stage in her life where she has kids! I did not expect however, the kids to be so involved in the story. Not at first at least. About halfway through the book, I was able to guess who the true suspect was. This is a first for me since I've never been able to guess who the real suspect was in her other books! It seems like most of the action in the book took place at 70-75% which is not common for most other Freida books. The evil neighbor twist reminded me of Nina… if you know you know. Seeing how Millie has grown was a treat, but not exactly what I expected going into this book. I think there was one mention of turtles in this book and of course that made me giggle.... After getting into the book a bit more, I really, really started to dislike Enzo. The way he kept lying and not being properly confronted was a *major* turnoff for me. There were a couple of other weird little incidents like Martha vacuuming at 6 am for example, and not finding out if Enzo liked the meal until…a couple of chapters or so later. It seemed like there were so many little things that just simply did not add up. I hated how secretive Enzo was being with Suzette and it seemed really, really, way too suspicious for there to not be anything going on. Enzo is, I think a character that might be just as beloved as Millie, but to see him portrayed this way legitimately angered me. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so mad at a Freida book except for when dealing with Nina - before we knew … everything. Which I think is much more understandable than Enzo's behavior here. There just seemed like a lot of things going on with Enzo that did not add up or make sense. After reading so many of her books, I was able to predict who the true suspect was based on those many clues! There was just too much happening that I could not help but notice and put two and two together. Even after being annoyed at some characters, and being able to predict their actions, it was still interesting to find out why they did what they did and how. One major hole in the story for me was Enzo confessing on a phone that was in the police department. How on earth would this be possible if police/jail phone calls are always recorded? I mean, I've never heard of these calls not being recorded? Maybe its just me.. That was something that really threw me off. But - overall I enjoyed reading this book as the last of the Housemaid series by Freida and the ending was k i l l e r down to the last sentence! Overall, 4 stars. Love all of Freida’s books so much! I am very grateful for my ARC from Netgalley. I am a huge McFan and can't wait to read more!

Freida Mcfadden DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! I have been waiting for this one to come out and it definitely did not disappoint with the twist and turns let left me with a total WOW, I never saw that coming!! This book sucked me in from the beginning because my family and I just moved into a new neighborhood and our neighbors are nosy like the characters in this book, but not to this extreme, so the phrase, "Be careful of your neighbors" is constantly in the back of my mind. Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for my advanced copy!

I really tried to go slow and savor read this one, but I failed and devoured it like the rest of her novels. I just couldn’t get enough. She is the true definition of unputdownable. Just when you think it’s all unfolded, she throws trust after twist at you. Another classic!

While I typically would never suggest reading a series out of order, this novel is readable,even if you have not read the first two installments; as I have not.
This third installment finds Millie,Enzo and thier kids move into a new home. Every new home involves meeting the new neighbors. Their new neighbors are not very neighborly but Millie tries to put on a happy face and chalk up any awkwardness to her insecurity about feeling out of place in a new,nicer neighborhood. Millie learns quickly that it is not her,the new neighbors are weird. Janice and her son Spencer, who live directly across the street from Millie, spend ALL of thier time together. Janice is hyper paranoid about allowing Spencer out of her sight and even attatches the boy to her with a leash. Janice is also the neighborhood snoop!
The neighbors directly next to them ,Suzette and Johnathon, brag about thier finances and Suzette is overtly flirtacious with Enzo. Her flirty behavior is not only gross but makes Millie jeaslous and paranoid.
I found this to be an easy read,not complicated to keep up with the storyline at all.
I like Millie a lot as a charachter and had fun getting to know how her mind works. Enzo is a good person ;true and loyal. Their children, Ada and Nico, are the best brother and sister team! Their close knit family is a true asset when a neighbor is found murdered.
McFAdden is good about tossing in a few red herrings to keep you guessing about who the "good guys" and "bad guys" are throughout the story.
There are a few holes in the story but the epilouge ties things up nicely.
Readers of this series who enjoyed the first two installments are bound to enjoy "the housemaid is watching".

The Housemaid is Watching is the third installment of The Housemaid series. Although I had not read the first two books, I did not feel lost while reading this one. The book references the previous installments, making it easier to follow the story. The short chapters made the story feel fast-paced but leaned more towards a mystery genre than a thriller. The pacing was slow initially, but it picked up later. The plot twists were shocking, and I had no idea where the story was going. However, the ending wrapped up too perfectly, leaving me with more questions than answers, especially regarding the Lowell family and their past. Overall, the book was a good read, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery novels.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Poisoned Pen Press for giving me a copy .

This third installment of the Housemaid series is quite different from the first two. Eleven years have passed since the end of book two and the main character are in a very different place. The writing again is fast paced, and there are plenty twist and turns in this page-turner. Definitely worth reading.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Freida McFadden can do no wrong in the book world! Book 3 in her Housemaid series was every bit worth the wait (and honestly, you don't have to wait that long, lol).

I absolutely loved the first two novels in this series, so I was a little disappointed with the third installment. This one jumps in time, and we see Millie with a family and kids, working an above-board social worker job. When she and her family move to the suburbs, something about her neighbors seems a little off, but nothing too crazy happens until more than halfway through the book. The first half was all introductions and set-up, which is definitely not what I expected from the third book in a series. The last half was a lot more propulsive, but it just didn't hook me like the previous two. Still a fun read, but definitely not the best from this author, nor is it the best in this trilogy.

Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the early digital review copy of this one!
In the third book of the Housemaid series, we are catapulted several years into the future, where Millie and Enzo are now married, have two children, and are buying their first house. Once again, Freida McFadden does a great job of setting the tone as mysterious and a little bit creepy, as the reader is left guessing where it all leads to. Another page-turner, The Housemaid is Watching is another quick read. Although Millie is still very naive (and as a reader, this can be frustrating in the same way that dumb horror movie characters are), the reader still can't help but root for her and her family.
By now we are all probably a little bit better at guessing the twist in this series, but there were definitely still a few tidbits that were surprising and a red herring or two. Overall, while this was not my favorite Freida book, it was still very enjoyable and was fun to see Millie as a wife and mother. If you've read the other two in the series, you have to check this one out!

Frieda and Millie together again! Let’s all rejoice! Mille is back and she is grown with children and married to that hot landscaper Enzo. They move to a new house with some rude suspicious neighbors. Their kids Ada and Nico are needing to get used to a new home and school. And then someone dies. Who died? Whose fault is it? Why did they die? I won’t spoil but this one kept me guessing and even when I thought I had it I didn’t really. And I really was like why isn’t everyone looking into how they died? Anyways a winner as usual for this third installment. Definitely worth reading until the last juicy twist.

Freida McFadden does it again. Many twists and turns from page one. A fast read that you can’t put down. Thank you for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and Source Books for my ARC!

Overall, this story feels very different from the first two books in this series. The overall vibes have shifted due to our characters being in a completely different stage of life. Honestly, this one didn't hit the same way that the first or second book did. There was exhilaration and suspense in the first two books that seemed to turn into dread and despair.

In The Housemaid is Watching, Millie has been married to Enzo for 11 years and they have 2 kids together. They are finally moving into their dream house and both have established careers. Moving into a small cul-de-sac, Millie immediately does not either one of her neighbors: one is snooty, rich and belittling, constantly flirting with her husband and the other one has anxiety about her child getting abducted at any given second and keeps her child on a leash.

While we are given another murder mystery, this one made me uncomfortable because Millie and Enzo's children, Ada and Nico, are involved in the murders. Most of the book is Millie not trusting her husband of 11 years, thinking he is cheating on her with the next door neighbor she hates, and finding out that Enzo has been lying to her about being a part of the mob when he was young. All of this was just more hurtful that exhilarating secrets coming to light because I was hurt to see the characters struggle in this way between one another. I know they are imperfect but I just didn't feel the same excitement that I did in the other books, just felt dread and upset. I wasn't expect the book to go in this direction at all. It was all very unexpected.

Another thing I disliked about this book was how much Millie herself and her own children seem to not like her and call her "boring" and "normal" while their dad, Enzo, is "amazing" and a "superhero" and "sexy."

For example, Millie thinks this:
"the kids think Enzo walks on water. And I'm just an ordinary mom who makes subpar Italian food. But that's okay--being ordinary has always been an impossible dream for me, so I'm happy to have achieved it. As far as I'm concerned, if my kids think I'm boring, that's great."

--Like, how terrible!! She has the lowest expectations set for herself. How sad!!

<img src="https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExMTMxZmFuNjU4MjczdGp4Ymg1bXY3ZGNrNHQzdmdiaG56bnJjbDAwNCZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/yoJC2Olx0ekMy2nX7W/giphy.gif">

Millie also thinks to herself:
"I don't want my son to take after me."

THEN, when we get to see Ada's POV, she thinks this:
"Great, I take after the boring parent." Referring to Millie. What in the world, ya'll? I am not sure what Freida was trying to accomplish by having her be a "boring" parent? Is she trying to make a point about how Millie is NOT boring but she is just hiding it from her kids, or what?

<img src="https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExd2Vjdmp5c2trN3Z2N3g5YjhjdTBhY2VsMnl1bm5nNmZudDMyOWtiZSZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/0Vv0Ne2CnOClIExIuL/giphy.gif">

The most disturbing part of the book is at the end when a boy at school won't stop flirting with Ada, she tells him that she is going to "sneak into your bedroom while you're sleeping and then when you wake up in the morning, you are going to pull back the blankets and you will find your bloody balls lying on the sheets next to you."
- What in the world? She's like 11 or 12 years old? I don't think that's okay...
<img src="https://media.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExYzAwNTNoemt4aTMzZzRseXd5cm5iazdubjAycWpic2J0dDhua2NsZiZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/zOuRCHez5UsKY/giphy.gif">

The story was not bad by any means, but just not what I was expecting. Personally, I did not enjoy it like I did the other books.

In the next installment of The Housemaid series, Freida McFadden takes the reader on another thrill ride of "whodunnit" and why!

Was this review helpful?

What a fun series!! The Housemaid is watching is the 3rd book in the series and I would definitely read one and two before enjoying this one.
"My past is far, far behind us. And I'll do anything to keep it that way." As Millie continues her story in Long Island, her and her husband Enzo have bought a beautiful home in a charming cul-de-sac away from their small apartment. They now have room for their two kids to play and enjoy separate bedrooms. Once they are there, Millie thinks they have made a terrible mistake. Her nosy neighbors are always watching. One neighbor suggests to Millie "Be careful of your neighbors."
Suzette and Jonathan Lowell live across the street and it appears Suzette has her eyes on Enzo, who is extremely handsome and Millie is used to other women staring at him, but Suzette takes it to another level.
There are several story-lines going on that are addictive, page turning and riveting. The twists appear rapidly at the end and some surprises along the way. I was unsure of one of the decisions the author made at the end that didn't give reasoning, but she is so talented I decided I missed something. It doesn't take away from the mystery unfolding and is well worth the fun experiences that Millie is still innocently elusive of everything she does that will make you laugh aloud. Enjoy it and just know there is another maid Martha that enters the story and she is watching also.
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

Wow, Wow, WOW ... McFadden has once again out done herself. I feel like she is turning into the James Patterson for my generation. In the third installment of " The Housemaid" franchise, the reader is sprung into the future where Millie and Enzo are happily married with two kids. They have saved every penny so they can buy a house in the suburbs. The fantasy of suburb life comes to a screeching halt when Millie feels like her neighbor has her sights set on her husband. Millie quickly realizes she doesn't know who she can trust, and sometimes it's the people closest to you that might have the most to hide. Bravo McFadden! Another amazing thriller

I hate writing bad reviews on netgalley, but this was boring. The outcome was obvious, the climax... wasn't, and the characters are all terrible people. There's no saving grace here, for a thriller that... isn't. I don't understand the excitement around this author.

Freida McFadden knows how to build suspense and craft a twist for maximum impact. I enjoyed this novel a lot. I loved that it has moved into the future and we get to see the family that Millie and Enzo now have and how their lives have evolved. At the same time, I think it caused the mystery element to lose a little bit of the impact the previous two novels in this series had. It was good but just didn’t have the same sense of propulsion. That said, McFadden has still created a really good novel of domestic suspense.

I was fortunate enough to get this #arc. In this book Millie is married and the mother of two. Her dream is to own a home in a great school district and a safe place. Seems normal enough and is amazed when a great house is available for under asking even if the mortgage payment will stress an already tight budget. Moving into the new neighborhood isn’t quite as easy as Millie and her family hoped and the adjustment isn’t easy. One neighbor is paranoid about the safety of her son and the other is childless and seems to hate children. Not quite the neighbors Millie was hoping for. Now one of the neighbors is dead but who killed him and why? Per usual there is a twist to the story and while i usually am blown away by the twist and find it my favorite part of the story this one left me a tad dissatisfied for a reason that I’m afraid would be a spoiler if I were to say. Overall the book is a satisfying read but as Millie is married with children and a job at a hospital I could see this being the end of the Housemaid series. Will it be? I don’t know but if it were to be it would end on a high note. #friedamcfadden #suspense #thrillersuspense #suspensethriller #thehousemaid #bookseries #trilogy
