The Inmate focuses on the life of Brooke-a single mom of a 10 year old boy- who recently moved back to her hometown and got a job at a prison. Turns out, her high school boyfriend who tried to kill her and is the father of her son is a prisoner there and he still claims he’s innocent. The entire time I read it, I thought I knew where the book was going, but in pure Frieda McFadden form, the book kept twisting and I didn’t expect the ending. Still thinking about it and whether or not it’s a little too wild

The Inmate by Freida McFadden
Mind-blowing twists and ,as always, addictive! I LOBE this book loads.
The dual timelines (about a decade ago and present) completed the whole story very well. A decade ago, a group of 5 teenagers spent a night in a house. Not all survived the night. Three were murdered, one was accused for the crime but claimed innocent, one was stabbed and one was luckily stayed intact but with lots of trauma.
In the present, Brooke - who was the lucky one, was offered a nursing job in prison. One of the inmate she had to look after was Shane - who was the one self-claimed innocent. The story then moved to a fast paced one, but still no one to trust. And also with Freida’s unique and typical writing style - you were unable to guess who’s happening next.
Under Freida’s pen, all characters are there for a reason. A surprise after a surprise is also Freida’s strength, especially for the epilogue. At that part, I like Josh and Tim a lot. (Real teammates!)
The betrayal, friendship and motherhood were the backbone of the story setting. Words limited myself to express how much I admire the author and how much I enjoy reading The Inmate.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy.

I couldn't put it down. The characters in the book are amazing. So good. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Freida has done it again. Well done!

I was really excited for this book as I have heard a lot about her from TikTok and Instagram. To me, the beginning was a good built-up but it kinda fell flat for me. The last 15% really made me nervous which is what I would expect from a thriller book! Im hoping to find another one of her works that would grip me and make me think about it for a while after.
I would like to thank Netgalley for giving me the earc for an honest review!

Freida Mcfadden is one of my favorite authors and this book didn't disappoint. I was not able to guess the plot twists and the epilogue was creepy. This book was hard to put down. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e copy of this book.

Freida McFadden does it again! I have never met a McFadden book I don't love and and instantly devour. This book kept me guessing up until the very end. And just when I thought it was all wrapped up with a bow, we got another twist in true McFadden fashion. I instantly gravitated towards the protagonist which made the story even more appealing.

This book started out ok. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong. Some parts (especially the twist)were a little far fetched but it was a page turner, nonetheless. Freida books are always a quick read. It was just full of too many far fetched things for me to thoroughly enjoy it

Holy cow. This was a wild ride. Freida McFadden does it again with a twisty, fast paced, jaw dropping thriller. The audio was excellent, and I found myself sitting in my car so I could listen to one more chapter. I found portions to feel a little soap opera-y, and some of Brooke’s decisions really bothered me. But the ending literally left me with my jaw on the floor. A solid 4.5 star that I would recommend.

Yet another Frieda McFadden bombshell! This book kept me on my toes through the very end. McFadden has a way with words that has you (unsuccessfully) guessing the whole way through!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
A creepy mystery that goes back and forth in time in the main character's life (Brooke, a nurse practitioner) who was a victim of attempted murder as a teenager. at a scene where three of her friends were killed.
Due to Brooke's testimony, and that of her close friend since childhood, Tim, Brooke's boyfriend, Shane, was found guilty of the multiple murders and the attempted murder of Brooke.
However evidence was slim, but the only other possible guilty party would be Brooke's old friend Tim, which Brooke finds unimaginable.
Brooke returns to her hometown, with her son, when she is left her parent's home in their will. She works at the very prison her old boyfriend (who apparently attempted to kill her) is jailed.
Brooke begins to question the innocence of her present day boyfriend, Tim, who she has known since childhood.
As usual with the books from bestselling author Freida McFadden's novels, you cannot determine the real murderer's identity is hidden until the very last page.
Any fan of psychological and domestic thrillers will a captive audience until the end of the book. I read it in one day, and I bet you will too!

Late to the party on this one, but would first like to thank NetGalley for an ARC of the Inmate by Frieda Mcdadden.
So don’t get me wrong it was really good. 4 stars good, but I feel like the internet overhyped it? I was sucked in to the end for sure, but I never gasped. I didn’t predict the ending so that was a surprise, but it wasn’t anything super crazy. I think it was still a really good read and would recommend it and I’m excited to read more from this author!

Oh boy. I really love Freida McFadden but this book didn’t hit the way her others have. The characters lacked depth and the twist wasn’t all that surprising. The crime that took place also felt pretty anticlimactic since it took forever for us to find out what actually happened and the events that took place weren’t all that exciting.
This book was written well but didn’t hit the mark plot wise. I’ll still read everything McFadden writes, this one just wasn’t for me.

This book pulled me in from the beginning. The main character, Brooke, begins working as a nurse practitioner in the penitentiary where the father of her son, Shane, is incarcerated. As soon as the scene is set, the story jumps back 11 years earlier to the night that sealed Shane’s fate. The story is told from both present day and the past. While it’s full of twists and turns, I found this book to be mostly predictable. There was a twist at the end that surprised me, but this book didn’t have the same suspense as others I’ve read by Frieda McFadden.

Freida never misses. This is the first one I guessed half of the twist but I still was extremely taken aback when all the bombshells were revealed.
The FMC was slightly annoying and judgmental in my opinion but I enjoyed listening to her try to unfold her memories from that tragic night.
A solid mystery read that I can count on to cleanse my pallet when I’ve been reading a certain genre for too long.

3.5 stars
Brooke is working as a NP in a maximum security prison, where her ex Shane is serving. A very long sentence. In fact, Shane tried to kill Brooke at one point. However, Brooke has fuzzy memories of the night of the attempted murder, a night where three other people died. Was it Shane that really tried to kill her? Was it the boy next-door, Tim?
I didn’t guess the ending of this one at all. So that was fun. The writing is a little bit simple, but overall it was a pretty entertaining book. My first read by Freida McFadden.
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book.

Finally, a book that I didn’t hate! It has interesting plot, that’s a plus! I finally don’t hate this story but I am not sure if I love this. The way she writes is straight to the point which I don’t particularly hate but meh. The plot twist for me was predictable but okay. It wasn’t shocking but i read this few hours so it says something. Brooke is stupid but i like it. Anyway, it was fun and predictable.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance release copy in exchange for an honest review.
Frieda McFadden always suspenseful and full of twists, and this book is no different. I struggled with the believability at times. Still a fun, easy read.

I'm a Frieda fan. I enjoy the easy read of her books. I felt I knew this ending way too early but appreciated the way she tells a story.

This was my fourth book by Freida McFadden and honestly I expected a little more. I recieved this book as an ARC on netgalley. My first one 🥹
At the beginning I didn‘t know where the story was supposed to go which wasn‘t necessarily bad. I even found it interesting.
I liked the plot and the overall idea of the story however I missed McFadden‘s captivating style of writing and developing a story. I expected the plot twist at about 70% through the book which disappointed me a little since I always loved the author‘s mind blowing plot twists.
I was still entertained by the story and it wasn‘t necessarily bad. I guess my expectations were just a little to high.

McFadden keeps outdoing herself with every book she writes! Do NOT stop reading this book halfway through assuming you know who the murderer is and the story doesn't end when the murderer is revealed....the ending will leave you speechless. Thanks for the advance read!
