I LOVED this thriller, i love all of her books but this is in my top 2 of my favorite ones I’ve read by her. The premise was very unique to me, and there were plot twists and turns that i just could not guess. This was a 4.5 stars for me!

I LOVE ALL of Freida's books. I have read so many and they never disappoint.
However, this book was not my favorite, which was very upsetting.
I still enjoyed this one though! I loved the mystery and thriller aspect of this book. I read this book in under 24 hours and it kept me entertained!
Thank you to everyone for this ARC I am very very grateful!

I thoroughly enjoy ALL of Freida's books! Some more than others, but overall, all of her books are extremely gripping. I love the short chapters and the "left on the edge of my seat" feeling after reading each chapter. Plus, I love how she is a master of making you think you have figured it out, but have not. I half figured this one out, but I didn't figure out the connection to the half I had figured out (if that makes sense)
Highly recommend this book and many others by this Author. She is a true genius of her craft and I look forward to The Boyfriend and the 3rd installment of the Housemaid series - The Housemaid is Watching! Keep knocking em out so your loyal readers can keep devouring em Freida!!!

Alright...unpopular opinion maybe, but I didn't fw this book at all. 2.5 stars.

Our girly is freakin delusional and is the worst fucking judge of character. All the men in her life are creepy and weird and she should seriously just stay on her own and do her own thing. Idc who the "bad guy" was in this story because they all seemed off to me and gave me the ICK.

Another issue I had was right off the bat a MALE MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON hires a girl who has a massive connection to an inmate??!?! No. Just no. This is completely unrealistic and no matter how desperate a prison is they would never hire her irl. Particularly because this is a smaller town and so many people know her...I just can't.

I'm also very upsetti spaghetti because of the ending. That twist was so unnecessary and kind of made me bummed out.

I'm going to keep trying this author because her other books do seem great so this hasn't ruined me for good. I just really hope they're better than this one (sorry!!).

Another amazing book by Freida McFadden. Just when you think you have it figured out, Freida will surprise you. The Inmate focuses on nurse practitioner, Brooke Sullivan, who just took a job at a maximum security prison. While this isn't a job anyone would be excited for, Brooke will be working in the same prison that her ex-boyfriend who tried to murder her is serving a life sentence, and she's the one who put him there. Upon Brooke seeing him for the first time, he immediately tries to instill doubt in her that he didn't actually try to murder her all those years ago. Is he manipulating her? Did Brooke misremember wrong? The Inmate takes you on a creepy, mysterious journey trying to figure out the truth of what happened all those years ago.

Freida MacFadden knows how to write a cracking yarn. This book hooked me from the very start and didn’t let go. Back in her home town, single mother Brooke Sullivan, desperate for a job, ends up working as a nurse practitioner in a maximum-security penitentiary. It’s not only the criminals who have committed extremely serious offenses that give her cause for worry though. Also incarcerated is Shane Nelson, a notorious inmate with whom Brooke shares a highly-charged past. This sets the scene for a roller-coaster ride as Brooke navigates her new role, reassesses what put Shane in prison in the first place, finds love – and then begins to second-guess everything she ever thought she knew about her past. In typical MacFadden fashion, the twists keep coming and it’s impossible to know who or what to believe. A quick, thrilling read

This is a fast paced, twisty read. I read it in 2 days because I needed to know what happened. It did read like a YA book for me though. The chapters alternated between present and past and were very short. This ons is right up on par with her other book and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

I love Freida’s books so full of surprises. Always wondering whodoneit!
The Inmate was a great psychological thriller. Right from the start I was hooked and wanting to find out more about Brooke Sullivan.
It was too obvious for an bit and then boom! So manny twists, just what I love in a thriller.
All I will say is… that epilogue!
Wow!!!
Way to go Freida you always keep me guessing! This book is a must read for thriller fans.
4.5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Wow! I read this in less than 24 hours. I love a good Freida McFadden book, and this one had some good twists- I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book so quickly. Definitely worth the read!

This book is kind of like the fast food of thrillers — It’s a bingeable fast read that might lack the depth or complexity of other thrillers but is nonetheless enjoyable. Freida McFadden is the queen of the twist, and she certainly kept me guessing until the end. I enjoyed The Inmate more than her recent book, The Teacher.
3.5🌟

THE INMATE: a gritty, twisty thriller of obsession
I had heard of Freida McFadden because of her now world-famous HOUSEMAID series, so I really wanted to get an idea of her style. I love prison novels, because grit is my thing when it comes to fiction. I had an idea of how twisty the author's style is, based on what people were telling me about the aforementioned series. So I came in expecting a gritty, super-twisty read. And this book really is both!
Brooke Sullivan put her star quarterback boyfriend behind bars in a men's maximum security prison. She testified against him. And he knows. And...guess where Brooke now works as a prison nurse? Yep! Same ol' slammer her boyfriend, Shane Nelson, star quarterback and serial killer is in. This one is a ride, from start to finish, and the twists just keep coming. You know the feeling of speeding on a road with a lot of curves and bumps? This is definitely one of those rides! And while some suspension of disbelief is required, for a quick, entertaining thriller, it sure does its job! Solid four out of five!

Before this novel, the only book I'd read by McFadden was The Housemaid, which is obviously a huge book for her. So I was really excited when I realized she's written a lot of other books! Unfortunately, this one wasn't quite it for me.

I'll get the bad stuff out of the way first: Brooke, the main character? So annoying and so STUPID. She starts working at the same prison that her ex is at, and she seriously thinks she's never going to run into him? For real? Girl. She also makes choices around who her son sees that I just could not understand. I'm not a mom, but towards the end of the book I felt like I could make better mom decisions than she did.

I also feel like a certain part of the twist at the end was pulled out of thin air - I feel like Freida really wanted an "oh shit!" moment, but nothing from the novel lead us to that moment. It felt like a last minute throw in for maximum impact, and for me it fell a little flat.

That said, I did love the alternative timelines, which lead me to understand how Brooke's past influenced the present. The story in general was good, and I would love to know how realistic McFadden's portrayal of prison is. While I was a little annoyed with part of the twist at the end, it was still good.

Definitely an average read, but I would say it's worth giving a chance.

This book kept me guessing until the very last page! I love a book where I am constantly trying to figure out “who done it” and am still able to be surprised by multiple twists. Most of Frieda’s books have been this way for me so far and that’s what makes me love her stories so much!

The book begins she. Brooke stars her new job as a nurse practitioner at a prison. It happens to be the same prison that the person who was convicted of trying to kill her and is also the father of her 10 year old son resides. She has some run ins with Shane. I was engaged from the beginning and Freida did not disappoint.

I will start of by saying I am a huge fan of Freida McFadden. She is my favorite author to read. Her books are so easy to read, always keep me engaged and are hard for me to even put down. This is the 3rd book of hers I have read and want to eventually read them all.

The inmate was no exception. This book was very intriguing and just when I thought I had figured out where this was going to go there was a twist at the end. Didn’t see it coming .

Brooke Sullivan works at a nurse practitioner in a men’s maximum security prison. None of the staff is aware of Brooke’s connection with their most dangerous prisoner Shane Nelson or the fact that he was Brooke’s high school sweetheart. Also he is spending his life in prison now for a few murders and Brookes testimony is what put him there !

Oh how I needed this wild and fun ride. The Inmate kept me doubting myself as I went back and forth trying to piece together the clues of who truly committed murder. At no point in the story did I have everything completely figured out, which hasn't happened for me in a long time with a thriller. Mischievous, too trusting, sneaky, and brainwashed describe some of the characters. You'll need to read this excellent murder mystery to figure out who. Enjoy!

Overall rating: 3/5

This is the fourth book I have read by Frieda McFadden - and as anticipated, this was a quick and twisty read.

I felt pacing lagged a bit through the mid-section of the book, and there were one or two noticeable subplots that I wish were a little more fully developed, which is reflected in my rating. However, this was a fun read that I completed in one day, and the epilogue was a real jaw dropper, so it’s worth the read if you’re looking for a quick thriller.
