Freida McFadden has done it again. She certainly knows how to write a breathtaking psychological thriller. The author certainly takes you on a rollercoaster journey with this story, always packing a punch with the content. So many twists and turns, it’s mind blowing!! Devoured in just 24 hours, thats how addictive it was. Oh and if you are looking for an astounding and dramatic ending, then look no further. Wish I could give it 6 stars.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy to read in exchange for my open and honest review. As always, my reviews will also be posted on Amazon, Goodreads and Waterstones and interaction on Facebook and instagram where possible.
Oh Freida another good one.
I like the twist at the end. The mentor turned serial killer great twist.
The caveot is the killing of the daughter of the main character is a bit too much. Everything else was great. Take out that part and I believe this book would’ve been stronger.
The key to loving all of Freida’s books is to just not try and figure everything out and go along for the ride. I love to just sit in the backseat and watch all the crazy unfold. I want the characters to be a shit show! Brooke was no exception… instead of letting her poor decisions irritate me I found myself cheering her nonsense on. This one was definitely a wild ride from start to finish!
Another classic Freida McFadden that has your attention from start to finish. I find the prison system fascinating (a la Orange is the New Black) so I found this book very appealing.
Brooke, a single mom and nurse, is stationed at a men's maximum-security prison where her high school sweetheart, Shane, is an inmate. As is McFadden's style, this book will leave you hooked all the way through the twist at the end.
I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really loved this book. The twist and turns were incredible and even when I thought they were something it turned out to be something else completely. Even with the ones I could predict the book gaslight me into thinking they were not. I 100% recommended this book!
POV: Single/Duel Timelines
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Format: eARC
" I can’t reveal to her that the man who was my very first boyfriend is an inmate at Raker Maximum Security Penitentiary, currently serving life without the possibility of parole. And I’m the one who put him here."
Nurse Practitioner Brooke is a single mother who just landed a job at the men's maximum security prison. There are a few rules here, be respectful, never tell anyone any personal information and don't become too friendly with the inmates. Unbeknownst to everyone, Brooke already knows someone on the inside all too well. She knows him because she is the reason he is there.
Wow. I finished this off in two sittings. I haven't read many thrillers that keep me guessing through the whole book. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, the next chapter reminded me that I didn't. If you love a good mind bender that keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat, this one is a must for your TBR list.
Freida McFadden does it again! The twists the turns. The “oh I know who did it,” to the “oh no I don’t know who did it” was so much fun to read! The mysteries always keep you guessing who did it! This one was no different. A page-turner for sure! I didn’t want to put it down.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I have not yet read a Freida McFadden book that I didn't really enjoy. Each story is unique and if there is one thing you can always expect is to expect the unexpected. I have read enough of Freida's books to know that things are never what they seem. This is the story of Brooke who encountered her friends being murdered at a party she was at, at a friend's house. Brooke herself was almost murdered and we recount the story of what happened that night through flashbacks as she has blacked some of it. My only complaint with this was just how naïve Brooke was throughout the whole story. It was a little far fetched to me, but sometimes you have to suspend disbelief when reading thrillers. All that being said, it didn't take away from the story, I still enjoyed it very much. I read it in two sittings.
The "Mistress of Mystery" does it again with a page turner that will keep you up to the wee hours. Yea, I read it in a day! Strong mystery with red herrings an suspects everywhere, what really happened that dark night? And is the right person in prison? Who can be trusted? Grips on until the very end, and still doesn't let go. Highly recommended.
Yet another edge of your seat thriller from Freida McFadden. Just when you think you have figured it out, no you didn’t!
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this title. All opinions are my own.
Freida is so good.
At first I thought it was a story that I could tell and knew the ending after just a few chapters. Well, I should’ve known better. She takes you on a tale that twists and turns at just the right times and keeps you repeatedly thinking “now I’ve got it” and you don’t at all.
A story in two timelines, teenage years with murderous acts to ten years later and the tale of survival. Be careful whose side you choose…
A page turner. I couldn't put it down. Freida manages hook you in and sustain it. I almost got whiplash from the amount of twists and turns. Another epic read. I can't wait for more. Thanks Netgalley and Bookouture so the review copy in exchange of my honest opinion.
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is the 5th March. This is the first book I’ve read by Freida McFadden and it won’t be the last! This book had me hooked from the prologue as I had so many questions that kept me in suspense as the book progressed.
I thought Tim as a character was quite strange! Overall, this book was a rollercoaster of a thriller with many twists and turns! I really thought I predicted the ending but I got it so wrong as the ending took an unexpected twist! I’d highly recommend this book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars!
This was the first title by Freida McFadden that I had read. I was easily hooked and kept in suspense.
The Inmate was a quick and easy read. McFaddens writing is good for a short thriller to get your heart going. There are a bunch of twists and turns, some you don’t see coming. McFadden also has some great foreshadowing throughout her writing that I truly appreciated.
Thank you to NetGalley, author and publisher for the ability to review the novel.
This thriller starts off great. Unfortunately as the story goes on it becomes less believable. The ending seemed very unrealistic. Reads more like YA
The Inmate by Freida McFadden
This book takes place with past and present stories. Where a young woman Brooke experiences a terrible even where her friends are murdered and she is the only survivor. Of the people that were at the scene that night she has put one away in jail the one person she was close with she relieves they had strangled her with the intention of killing her that night. That person also happened to be her boyfriend Shane at the time.
Now Brooke is a nurse practitioner who has just applied to the prison where Shane has been in incarcerated for 11 years.
This story is insanely addictive and tough to put down! I highly recommend it! I can’t get enough of Freidas books! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley and for early copy of this book! Below is my honest review.
Summary of the plot:
Brooke has been recently hired as the new nurse practitioner at a maximum security prison. She didn't expect to get the job, given the fact that she helped put her ex-boyfriend (Shane Nelson) in there for almost murdering her. But after talking with Shane, she begins to doubt whether or not he actually tried to murder her...
Thoughts:
I thought Brooke was so unlikable and naïve, so it was really difficult to follow her perspective. She just kept making dumb decisions. I'm over here shaking my head because I couldn't believe she was doing the things that she was doing. The twist at the end was definitely very twisty, especially the epilogue (though I will say that I didn't really like the epilogue either because it realistically doesn't sit right with me). This is not my favorite Freida McFadden book, which is really sad because I had high hopes for it. Though, this book is very fast pace so it was very easy for me to get finish it in one day.
Overall, not sure if I would recommend this book. but eh--why not?
A tense, twisty book. I read some reviews beforehand and agree that it had a YA feel at times and the MFC was unbelievably frustrating and naive despite her trauma. Despite this, and the farfetched plot and way things tied in so neatly, I did enjoy the book. I've wanted to read a freida mcfadden for a while and I will definitely read more by her. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC!
One of the BEST thrillers I have ever read. Freida McFadden never disappoints with her binge- worthy, non-stop pyschological thrillers.
This story follows Brooke, a single mom, who just back to her hometown, where she is the new nurse at a maximum security prison. The problem is, it's not just any prison, its the prison where her ex boyfriend, Shane, is serving his sentence and she is the reason he is there.
Memories of that fatal night start to reveal themselves as her job continues on, and former friends come to light.
This book had me GASPING in shock and the end had me thinking of this book for weeks!!!
AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
10 years ago Brooke was nearly strangled to death by her boyfriend Shane. He’s spent the following years in jail, whilst she’s spent the time secretly raising their son Josh. After an accident kills Brooke’s parents, she moves back to her hometown and strikes up a relationship with her childhood best friend Tim, along with starting a new job as a nurse practitioner at Shane’s jail. As time passes it is unclear who she can trust.
I don’t understand any of the negative reviews I’ve seen for this book. It was a hit for me! A complete page turner with red herrings galore. Without revealing any spoilers the twists and turns in this book were amazing, especially that final epilogue. I enjoyed the chapters switching from present day to events of 10 years ago. Brooke is written as a strong woman and a good mum. Despite being a heartthrob Shane seems to have a dark edge, despite this I was rooting for him to get back with Brooke. Tim seems a little too perfect. Brooke lies to him and he just takes it is even nicer to her. Is this because he’s got a sinister side?
Genuinely really enjoyed this and truly couldn’t put it down. 5⭐️read!
