This is my first Sariah book, and I loved it. I went in completely blind to read it, and I think it fell right into my lap. I found it to be a very cute book, very romantic, to a certain extent innocent (though not for that reason predictable), but infinitely appreciated in the midst of so many stressful reads.
I loved Everly and Max, the relationship between them, and how chivalrous he was with her, definitely a prince charming. I can't wait to read a Vella story, I hope there is one.
Here is another romance for those who love Sariah Wilson. A very light romance read. It's not my favorite by her but is an easy to follow story. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a little fluff in their otherwise heavy mood.
Thank you to the publishers for an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Sariah Wilson books are always a cute, fun time! Just enough fluff to be a light read but also a cute plot with some laughs and swoons! I also really love the fact that she writes clean reads.
Everly Aprile has dreams. Dreams of being a successful event planner. Dreams of being her boss Adrian's girlfriend. Dreams of being just like Queen Kat of Monterra. She has a distrust of men thanks to her father and a roommate who hates everyone. Except Everly. When a chance to plan a teenagers birthday party falls into her lap she hope for a promotion and for Adrian to finally see her for what she's worth. But Adrian plans to propose to his girlfriend (with Everly's help) and Everly meets a mysterious man from Monterra that might just change everything she thinks she wants. I enjoyed the characters in this novel (my favorite might be Vella--the roommate) and found it hard to put down. Can't wait for Sariah's next book.
Party Favours is a sugary fun rom com which follows Everley, a New York party planner and long time plan of the Monterran royals. After meeting Max Colby, a Monterran, Everley offers to act as tour guide while he teaches her the customs of his country.
This was a light, well paced read. I enjoyed the royals of Monterra series as a comfort read, and it was fun to pick up on the Easter eggs in this novel, set in the same world. Party Favours was low on angst, and high on chemistry and cuteness. Max and Everley were a sweet couple, and I really loved Vella and Sunny. 3.5 stars, rounded up for a fun, escapist read.
Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
A new book by Sariah Wilson which references a previous book. I enjoyed the book - it was a romance with character growth, sharks/snakes, a goth best friend and a party planner. The characters were well written and the best friend provides a good side character to provide steady support for the heroine.
I recommend reading this and will be buying it for my library - I think it will suit a range of people. It does mention kissing and imply a few things but is not graphic in nature.
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.
I love everything I have ever read by Sariah Wilson and Party Favors is no different! If you love squeaky clean rom coms this book is for you. It stars Everly, her quirky roommate Vella and Max! Everly is a party planner looking for a her Prince Charming, who she thinks is her boss until she meets Max at a bar she was dragged to with Vella! You can feel the chemistry between Max and Everly jump off the pages! Is this Everly’s happily ever after?? Read this so sweet it will give you a toothache book now!! Highly recommend!!
Thank you NetGalley and Montlake publishing for the arc, I absolutely loved it, if you wants to read this book it will be published July 30 2024!
First and foremost, thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the opportunity to read and review this year.
I've heard of Sariah Wilson and may even own an ebook or two of hers, but I've never actually read anything by her before.
Charming. If I was to sum this book up in one word, that'd be it: charming. It just oozes warm, gooey, a bit cheesy, happy, Hallmark movie sort of vibes and I'm just had a great time reading it.
I wasn't a big Everly fan at first, but she slooooowly kinda sorta won me over. Loved Max. Enjoyed their romance quite a bit. And I really loved Everly's roommate. She was definitely THE BEST part of the book 😂
I'll definitely be picking up another book by this author.
Sariah Wilson fans rejoice!!! She has another book coming out! Woohoo!!! And to all of those readers who haven't read her books, if you love clean books full of chemistry and delightfully funny characters, pick one up!
She's an instant buy/pick up her books for me! The second that I saw this was available to review, I requested it and instead of waiting clear until the release date (which is a few months away) I had to read it! And I was hooked and loved it! Another win for this author with me!
Everly is one of those characters that you love rooting for because she's wonderful but she doesn't quite she her goodness and you're cheering her on as she goes through her character arc and discovers her strength and worth! And I can't forget to mention that she discovers and cherishes the sweet and incredible friendships she has and gains! Her roommate Vella is the best! She's a bit snarky in some moments but she doesn't let anyone push her around and she's a fierce cheerleader for Everly standing up for herself and going for what she truly wants. We all need someone like that in our lives!
And then there's Max. I loved Max. He's sooo good! And the perfect gentleman! You'll love the chemistry and cuteness between these two. But be warned, Everly takes some convincing that he really likes her. It's a bit of a slow burn sweet romance at first. Then sparks fly!
The event planning descriptions were super fun, especially the amazing baby shower! Wowsers!!! So fun! I loved the ending so much!!! *Happy Sigh*
This one releases July 30, 2024.
Content: Mostly sweet kisses. Some mild innuendo. There is a scene where the main characters are kissing and it becomes more heated, he takes his shirt off but then they stop kissing.
I received a copy from the publisher, Montlake, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
This book was given to me as an electronic ARC in exchange for my unbiased review.
The overall book was a love story that unfolded slowly. It followed the life of Everly Aprile who was an event planner for a big planning firm.
The book for me was a 3 star read just because it seemed so slow. It seemed like it dragged on for far too long when you knew exactly how it would end.
I found myself frustrated more than a few times at the main character for being so…meek, afraid, making herself small. I’m not exactly sure how to explain it, other than I’m used to strong main female characters and it seemed, at least in the first half of this book that Everly was more of a doormat and I was frustrated.
Thankfully towards the end she seemed to step into her own power and take her life by the horns so to speak and the book finally sped up and I loved it!!
I’m excited to read more from this author in the future.
I've been a big fan of Sariah Wilson's writing for a while & her latest book, Party Favors, did not disappoint.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy on #NetGalley of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own, but Party Favors is a cute, RomCom story full of quirky characters, hilarious one-liners you gotta reread cause Sariah Wilson loves to sneak them into dialog between her characters. An easy to read story about a girl who finds her self-confidence & her ability to set boundaries while strengthening her relationships with family and friends, as well as a budding romance that makes your heart swoon.
I want to like this book so much more than I do. I love Sariah Wilson’s writing style and storytelling. I generally love her FMCs and adore her MMCs. This one just didn’t hit a home run for me. I don’t think the story starts at the right place, and because of that, it feels slow and draggy. And then we don’t meet the MMC until 15%. Chapter 5. I don’t have to meet the MMC on page 1, but 15% into the story is pretty far for me. And then their first interaction was really cringe to me. Not flirty, not banter-ful, not cute. “What kind of guys do you like? Maybe I can set you up.” When y’all just met??? “What about your power to put men under your spell?” just comes across as cheesy and skeevy. I’m sorry. So then when he offers to walk her home, it should be cute and chivalrous, but he’s worried about saving her from creeps, and I’m like, you haven’t proven that you’re not one too???
The FMC is very insecure in a slightly “this is too much” mixed with “this is almost not believable” way. FMC is the kind of girl who literally asks a super hot guy, “Why did you come over and talk to me?” Because you was crying in da club gurl. And why was she crying? Because she has such issues with her dad abandoning her and starting a new family that she not only Friended his new wife but also has notifications on her phone of that lady’s activity?! BUT that’s the catalyst for their meet cute, so I like it in an awkward, awww kind of way. Except then her insecurity confuses me because she spills her secret crush on her boss to this stranger in the club. And she goes through his messages on his phone when she realizes she accidentally has it in her possession???
Aside from her insecurities, our FMC sets herself up to be mature and annoying to readers early on when MMC straight up tells her he’s glad her roommate made her come out tonight, and she’s still like “oh no he’s pitying me by talking to me.” So I don’t think she’ll be every reader’s cup of tea. (She’s also from a small town in Alabama and orders a Heineken with her defense being drinking is what was done in her small town. Yeah girl. Bud Light. Natty Light. Not Heineken lol.)
Her roommate/best friend is a gem, and I’d read an entire book about her and her journey to find love.
Third act break up can be seen from their first interaction even if you don’t know what’s going to happen. When FMC says something is a big deal to her, you can bet MMC is going to do that thing. And that’s fine. I don’t mind it. But. When they break up, FMC is clear that she needs space. So what does MMC do? He texts her. Daily. He shows up at her place. Daily. And while FMC is all, it’s what I’d want him to do if he’d asked, I am all, bro she told you to leave her alone and that she needed space, so he loses some good points for that.
I don’t love the epilogue. I don’t love that a woman asks another woman if she’s pregnant. Especially another pregnant woman. I also found the whole thing really unbelievable, like beyond the regular Romance unbelievability. The reigning Queen of a country would not be telling a random American she’s pregnant. That’s a PR nightmare.
And finally, I am begging the copyeditor at Montlake books to learn the rules around commas better. If it is two independent clauses (full sentences), separated by or, and, or but, it needs a comma before the conjunction.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review!
I loved everything about this book! Sariah Wilson has been one of my all time favorite authors and her work somehow keeps getting. Better with time! Highly recommend for a feel good romance read
Fairly predictable rom com but it was still a good read that I enjoyed. I didn't love it but I am looking forward to other books by this author.
Sariah Wilson has a fresh writing voice with an easy-reading style, and she uses them well to create charming characters and engaging plots filled with fun banter and lots of heart.
You want all good things for the sweet, hard-working Everly. The fact that she is struggling to stand up for herself will be relatable for many, and the numerous characters supporting and encouraging her to own her accomplishments is heartening. [Vella is an absolute gem who steals every scene she is in. I hope she gets her own book soon]. Likewise, Max is sweet and nearly perfect.
Their relationship develops slowly and builds nicely. They make mistakes and keep trying, learning and growing. You can't help but root for them in this light and fluffy fairy tale (with a little twist).
I firmly believe this book was written for me. 💖 Party Favors was a joy to read, and I loved living vicariously through it.
I was intrigued by this novel due to the cover, as well as the description! I love a romantic comedy as well as anything sugary like Royal content.
There were a few things I enjoyed about this novel. I enjoyed the depiction of Everly and Vella’s friendship, and seeing Everly’s growth throughout the novel. I was really rooting for her to stand up for herself and build her self-efficacy. I loved reading about Everly and her Mum’s relationship as well!
However, I found myself cringing numerous times throughout the novel which really took me out of the book. Some of many examples are (spoilers ahead!!): “he doesn’t unalive people” (Ch5) - please just say kill; “my ovaries threatened to wage a revolution” (Ch25); and “there was something slightly predatory and possessive about it that thrilled me” (Ch34).
I also really struggled to sit through Everly’s negative self-talk around her low self-worth and found her insufferable. It was hard to read the way she allowed Adrian to treat her, and especially hard to read how she couldn’t believe Max might like her after the signs were right in her face! This was difficult from the beginning, but infuriating at ~ 75%.
I was completely put off by the time we came to the ending, particularly by the development around Max lying. Then at the epilogue, it was just too far-fetched for me to enjoy.
Overall, I thought that female friendships were demonstrated really well in this novel. There were a lot of great things about this novel, however I really struggled with Everly’s character and how she let everyone treat her like a doormat.
I would recommend this novel to anyone wanting a light read and/or who likes reading about Royals. It might be a good read for those who struggle with their own self-worth as they might find it empowering.
Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Publishing for an advanced reader copy of Party Favors for an honest review. Party Favors will be published July 30 2024.
I thought this was an enjoyable read, I loved the characters of Everly and Max. I especially enjoyed the growth Everly goes through during this story. She's a likable heroine with a fun personality, but definitely not perfect. I liked that she does a lot of self-reflection to figure out just who she wants to be. Max is great, so good for Everly. I love seeing and reading about healthy relationships. I love when an author is able to show character falling in like, not just love. They actually like each other and like spending time together. They also have super great chemistry! Wowzers! Another hit by Ms. Wilson, I love her books!
Such a good story! The chemistry of characters and the believable plot make this another excellent book. Who doesn’t love a good royal romance with a twist;this story of Everly and Max is a well-written, swoony and a must read.
This has been one of my favourite Sariah Wilson books to read, I absolutely devoured it. The chemistry between Evelyn and Max, the swoonyness, it has everything you would need from a cozy romance novel. I wish I could read it for the first time again. I wish that there would be another book in this world about Vella because I LOVED her!
Thank you to Montlake, Sariah Wilson and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
