The only character who seemed more than a full on caricature was Vella. I wasn’t able to connect with this story due to this as well as the super instantaneous romance. This one really lagged for me.
Many other readers are likely to enjoy; I just wasn’t the right reader for this.
Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for the DRC
This is a summer shower of a five-star read. There really is something special about this story, really if you suspend reality, you could be like Aprile and her dreams of showers, the party kind, not the weather kind (the best kind in my eyes). I think they has characters from another series in it, but I didn’t realise until the end, as it truly is a standalone story. Vella was a bright spark in this story, she was the kind of best friend we could all do with, she would set you on the straight and narrow and make you smile while she did it. If you like your story with a happily ever after, then pick up this amazing party in a book. As Aprile and her Max will make you smile, much like Adrian will make you frown. This is a story that will whisk you away, and make you dream of your happily ever after, marrying your prince, from a certain Monterran palace maybe. Now go and dream about how you would change your life in a ‘what would Kat do’ moment, or an even better thing, ‘what would Aprile do’.
Party Favors - Sariah Wilson
3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This was a cute read!
At times very sickly sweet, but if you want a good old romance where the FMC gets swept off her feet by the seemingly perfect (but has some minor hidden flaws)MMC then this is for you.
I loved the relationship between Everly and her best friend just as much as the romantic relationship.
Sariah Wilson can do humour and banter and I will alway pick up one of her books for some light hearted relief.
Definitely one to pick up if you want something easy to read and that will make you smile
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC
Thank you for opportunity to read the e-arc of Party Favors. I really enjoyed how cosy the characters were, but it was a smidge too cheesy and unbelievable for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I have never read anything by Sariah Wilson, but I think Party Favors was a solid place for me to start! This is a pretty cute and cozy romance, which I expected from the description. This is a book you can pick up and read in one sitting for sure!
I enjoyed Everyly & Max, and I thought that had pretty decent chemistry. They fall for each other fairly quickly, but it doesn't feel outrageously unrealistic in my opinion. I think they had a solid romantic connection that was believable. I'd also say their romance was developed well for, what was for me, a quick book. The twist took me by surprise even though I was expecting something to happen, and I definitely found it to be well-done!
Overall it's a sweet romance, one that kind of reminded my of a Hallmark movie in a couple of ways. So that's a factor in deciding if you want to give this book a try. But I definitely do recommend if you're a fan of that type of nice and sweet romance!
Party Favors is a stand-alone book, but Sariah Wilson has written other romance books about the royal family of the made-up country Monterra found in this book. I liked Party Favors well enough that I think I'm going to check out that series, though it's not necessary to have read that series in order to enjoy this book at all.
Thank you net galley and publisher for this ARC. This was a cute rom com book I would recommend it for a light hearted read.
I need a Max! I loved this sweet romance. I was cheering for the characters and the tension was delicious. First five star book I’ve read this year.
Thanks Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Where do I begin. Five star read hands down because this was such a sweet, easy to read, cozy story. The MC in this story had me swooning, he was perfect. Yes there was a little twist with him but all I could think was she needs to forgive him bc I would. I related so much to both FC’ the main & the best friend. I’m a little bit of bother so their friendship just hit so close to home for me. I loved how they complimented each other and there was no tension between them it just flowed. Her best friend gave such amazing advice & there was one part my jaw dropped and I was like “YES VELLA! Teach me your ways”. The ending/epilogue was a little cheesy but it worked with how everything in the story lead up to it so I should have seen that coming. I didn’t btw. Definitely a super cute slow burn read and if you like barely any spice (make out sessions only) and want to be knocked off your feet from swooning. This is 100% the book to read.
Had the privilege of reading this thanks to NetGalley sending it my way.
4.5 stars
Aside from a couple of moments when I wanted to yell at the MC through my screen, (Seriously, why did she say yes to that one thing? So dumb!) this is one of my favorite Sariah Wilson books of her most recent. I loved the return of Monterra and the Easter eggs for her early books. The dates were sweet, and I liked the party planning backdrop.
Definitely recommended.
good romance but there were secrets with max. He did try to tell them to her. They meet at a bar so that she could get ideas for a party. she then still has a crush on Adrian and has a good friend. she ends up falling for max and doing other events . she figures out what she wants and finds love. love her best friend.
This book is so easy to read! I don't know if it comes from the relatable FMC or the cheesy feeling you get from the story, but I would definitely pick it up again! The characters are reliable and full of surprises on top of being relatable. This was a great comfort read to start the year!
I wanted to love Party Favors by Sariah Wilson. A royal obsessed party planner sounded awesome. I liked the concept of her stepping out of her comfort zone, speaking up, and planning her first event, but the rest of it fell flat. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Everly and Max. Everly doubted herself so much I started to wonder why Max would be interested too and all around. It made me sad for her.
Swoon...this story had it all for me! I loved the interactions between Everly and Max as well as between Everly and Vella. I related a lot to Everly's insecurities which made it very easy to get drawn into the story. The romance was sweet, spicy, but not explicit, which I appreciated. Two things that surprised me were how much I loved Vella's character (would love to read a book about her finding her happily ever after!) and the ending (I was anticipating a different twist, but was pleasantly surprised). Loved the tie-ins to The Royals of Monterra series too, which if you haven't read those yet do yourself a favor and do that soon!
I a humongous "thank you" to NetGalley and Montlake for giving me the opportunity to read this book in advance. I feel bad for those that have to wait all the way until the end of July to read this one. I suggest you preorder it today! All opinions are solely mine, but be wise and listen to me, because I know what I'm talking about! ;)
Fun and cute, this had me reading all night. I’ve read a few Sariah Wilson by now and she’s quickly becoming a favorite. I like that it’s not as explicit either when it comes to the romance so it’s appropriate for most ages.
I really enjoyed this book. Everly is a bit of a pushover people pleaser at the first of the book and you can’t help but feel bad for her. Vella, her best friend and roommate, is hilarious and very unorthodox but gives great advice. Max is definitely Prince Charming with his light blue eyes, good looks and gentlemanly ways. I loved the connection and dialogue between Max and Everly. If you love sweet romances with lots of chemistry and a good ending, this book is for you
My very first ARC from NetGalley! There is something very exciting about reading a book before its pub date and I think that is what kept me going today. If you are a fan of Hallmark movies with a workaholic FMC who doesn’t fall in love until the man of her dreams swoops in to help her stop and smell the pine trees, this book is for you! Run, don’t walk!
Unfortunately for me, I hate those type of movies 🤣🤣. Incredibly sweet, mushy gushy, closed door (locked door, where is the door?) Although it was not my kind of book, I wouldn’t tell anyone NOT to read it, so 3 stars.
Another cute book by Sariah Wilson! I really liked the Seat Filler ( have read it twice) so I was excited to see she had another book out! The book was packed with everything - a young woman (Everly) with ambition who moves from a small town to the big city, a prince among many frogs of men Everly has dated who has gained her trust, and a best friend (Vella), who gives the BEST advice with snark, sarcasm and warmth. I loved Vella, and am hoping Sariah comes back with a book about Vella, since she stole the show in this book! I would say the book is ok. It moved super - fast and I felt I needed more information and details about the characters in order for me to feel a stronger connection to them.
This book is equal parts hilarious and swoony! Everly is an attempt to take control of her life meets a gorgeous stranger who changes her world entirely!
Max is gorgeous but can also help Everly with a promotion she has her eyes set on but the time spent together turns into a beautiful friendship! As they get closer both need to realize that friendship might not be the key and maybe there is something more! If only hidden truths could stay buried!
Everly and Max were both absolutely charming but vella omg she is hilarious! I need her to get a book of her own!
OK, so I really tried to like this book. I really did but it just did not hit for me, and the plot isn’t interesting enough to continue in my opinion. I dnf’ed it about 30% through the book because I just didn’t like some of the characters. The only character that I did like was her best friend/roommate. The boss is an absolute man child and can’t do anything on his own, the way the way the mom was written to not understand anything about technology( this isn’t a big turnoff but come on, at least make her able to text correctly) , and the main character is…. Idk I just didn’t really like her lmao. I might try to read it again in the future but It just didn’t hit for me at this time.
I hate posting negative reviews, but this book - not for me. Although the writing style was fine, I found the characters to be caricatures - too fictional, too flawed, and speeches too perfect. Everly was so self conscious, so dense, I couldn't see how Max fell for her. There weren't a lot of moments where we saw reasons for the main characters to fall that deeply in love in such a short time span. Max was ok - he ranged from "wolfish" and protective to sweet and caring. I just couldn't see how a 22 year old and 25 year old progressed this quickly. They both seemed immature with unhealed trauma.
Vella however, was amazing. I'd love to read her story next. She was beautifully written, and had a lot of depth, and I loved how she was such a great friend.
This was the first book I've read from this author. Many thanks to Net Galley for the ARC.
