F1 world meets RWRB?? Sign me in every single day!!
This book was amazing from the start until the end and I adored how fast paced it was and the chracther development in it!
The main couple was amazing and delivered one of the best stories ever!
“Pole Position” is an enemies-to-lovers romance between two race car drivers. Kian and Harper meet when Harper gets called up to take the spot of Kian’s injured teammate. Kian is not happy with the change, despite Harper’s skill behind the wheel. I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve from antagonistic to lovers. Even when they were at odds, the two men were attracted to each other. Once they finally give in to their attraction, the spicy scenes were very hot. The story was very focused on Kian and Harper, but there were some interesting side characters, particularly Harper’s best friend Johannes. I liked this story and rate it four stars.
Overall, although this book was spicy, I found it really cosy and such an enjoyable heartwarming story.
This story is an F1 M/M spicy enemies to lovers rom-com. Some of the characters personalities were really relatable and therefore made it even funnier for me.
I was fully invested in both the main characters in this story; I honestly wanted them both to win the races!
I really enjoyed how this story ended; I am such a sucker for a happily ever after.
There was spice in this book but I didn’t find it too spicy; the author kind of just didn’t beat around the bush when it came to the steamier scenes.
So I know nothing about F1 besides the basics of they drive cars around a track and whoever is the fastest wins. I think had I know a bit more maybe I would've liked this more? The beginning started off fine, I started getting more into it and then it just became way to over dramatic for me. Like rolling my eyes dramatic. I may pick up some of the authors future works but I won't be rushing to get to them.
This book includes:
- F1 dramaaaaa
- paparazzi and life as a celebrity
- athlete at the peak of his career and a rockstar rookie
- LGBT party culture
- grumpy-sunshine
- TW: family trauma not on page, death of a parent
This is such a fun romcom. As a huge F1 fan, I was so excited when I saw a sports romance story that explores the world of motor racing. Kian and Harper have such a fun dynamic and their flirting had me kicking my feet and giggling. If you're looking for a quick fun romance, "Pole Position" will hit the spot. My only complaint about the book was that the characters had these big backstories that were never actually explored or explained. I had a really hard time suspending reality long enough to believe that an American former foster kid would ever be able to afford karting or F2 or anything else related to training for the sport.
I received this eBook as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Rebecca J. Caffery for the opportunity to review this book. I enjoyed this! Loved how they were both drivers, and it was an easy, fun read, particularly for an F1 fan. Great to see the LGBT representation.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for sending me an arc of this book.
I've been really getting into F1 this year and after reading Offtrack by Esha Patel, absolutely loving it, and seeing Pole Position available to request I knew I had to at least try. And I'm so happy that I did.
Pole Position delivers a great mix of sports and romance.
The story follows Kian, a seasoned driver, and Harper, a rebellious newcomer. Their initial clash evolves into a steamy enemies-to-lovers romance, with a lot of banter and emotional highs and lows.
Kian’s calm, controlled demeanor contrasts sharply with Harper’s wild side, leading to some intense moments. The push-and-pull between them was incredible, although frustrating at times.
Overall, the book is a fun, sweet read with plenty of steam and heart. I enjoyed the romance and can’t wait to see where the story goes next.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of this e-arc.
I didn’t like Kian one of the main characters, his thoughts didn’t even surround which he didn’t like the other main character he just seemed to constantly be angry with him, before he’s even met him.
It also was based quite realistically around team and just changing letters of drivers names which I don’t like.
I love formula 1 so getting this as an ARC was very exciting.
I loved it! Such a unique take on the racing driving romance by the romance being between the drivers!
It’s cute, has banter, the characters are really well developed and I was so invested in their story. I could not put this book down.
Due to health issues cannot write a proper review now even if I enjoyed this book. as it's well plotted and entertaining. . I liked the good storytelling
A more extensive review will follow
Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
1. I love Formula One so this was great
2. This was a great book, and it got me out of a reading slump! Caffery did a great job in setting the scene and making this interesting, so I really got through this easily.
The only thing I will note is that this book was definitely more interesting because I know the sport. For people who are new, I don't know how interested they may be because they may be confused about terms or events and their importance. A bit more context would be useful for future books, and I would love to read another!
Pole Position is "Red, White, and Royal Blue meets Formula 1!" Y'all, I was IN! Basically compare anything to Red, White, and Royal Blue and I'm going to read it. This book is about seasoned professional Kian Walker and his new teammate Harper James, an unpredictable rookie who drives on instinct and thrives on thrills. Starting out as rivals, the two get closer over the season. I'm new to Formula 1 but enjoy a good sports romance and thought it was a cool premise!
I started watching Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Netflix pretty recently, and I'm glad I did because if I didn't, I don't think I would have had any idea what was going on with the racing stuff. There isn't a lot of background given on the rules or Formula 1 in general so I really leaned on what I learned from my 3ish seasons of the show. If you don't know anything about Formula 1, you might find it frustrating.
I had a fun time with this book! I really tried to strap in and enjoy the ride, which I think worked well. Don't think too hard, just vibe. I don't have strong feelings about F1 so I have no idea if it was represented well, but I also don't really care. I like the international aspect of F1 in general and liked learning how the characters felt about the different tracks. I actually would have wanted more of that because this book is more romance than sports, and I'm here for a sports romance! The spice didn't really do it for me, but spice rarely does it for me so take that with a big grain of salt (or spice, if you will).
Despite some issues, I enjoyed my time with this book. Definitely recommend if you like F1 and sports romances. 3.75 stars rounded up to 4 from me. Thank you to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for the eARC of this book, my thoughts are my own!
I really enjoyed this story!
I found that the story was really well written and it was certainly a book that had me hooked.
It was a good storyline with some well developed characters.
It was romantic and sexy, a totally addictive read that I didn't want to put down, it was fast paced and a sexy read.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
(4.5) A new take on a F1 romance! I really loved that this was a relationship journey between two drivers, it just really allowed for a fresh take on a romance in the sport. At times it wasn’t the most believable thing, but hey I had a heck of a good time reading it so I can’t complain too much. I really liked that it included really track locations, team names, and even a real life driver. I like when my sports romances have real life elements to them, I think it allows for other parts of the book to be able to be fictionalized more and still feel right? I don’t know, it creates a balance that really works for me. I loved getting to know Kian and Harper. I didn’t love them from the start it took me a bit to warm up, especially to Harper but I just knew they were going to have a great character journey individually and together.
The found family was everything and the emotional aspect really elevated this story for me. At times the writing felt a little clunky and the timeline jumps took a second to piece together but overall I really enjoyed it and would love to have a copy for my shelves!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the early access!
Thank you for the earc of Pole Position, I really enjoyed this novel, so much that I bought the paperback.
I really thought this book was written well and I loved the rom-com aspect of it. I feel rom-coms are really easy to get into, the characters are relatable and they're fun to read and this was no exception. I loved the way the story developed and how the characters interacted with each other. Highly enjoyable.
I thought this was a pretty cute, easy read. I don't know anything about F1, so no idea how accurate it was, but it was fun to read about. I did find the characters quite immature and there was a fair amount of communication issues, which is often not my favourite, but it wasn't bad enough for me to dnf it. A decent read if you're looking for something easy and not too intense.
A cute, queer romance for all fans of motorsport! If you like the Dirty Air Series by Lauren Asher or Cross the Line by Simone Soltani, this book is for you!
I’ll always be there in line for a book about formula one but unfortunately this one just didn’t hit the spot. I found Harper extremely annoying and did not like his chapters but wanted more of Kian. Possibly the wrong time but not for me this time
This book is advertised as a Red, White, and Royal Blue-esque F1 romance; and that's definitely what it felt like for me! Kian and Harper were sooo dang cute together! They both have so much from their own lives that they struggle through and while Harper is a wildin' party boy, Kian is reserved and quiet. But together they are the perfect grumpy x sunshine pairing and I just loved their character growth together and apart (loooove Kian's positive take of mental health treatment).
Final Rating: 4.25⭐, 2.5 🌶️
Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This one has the right balance between sports and romance. I loved the tension between them at the beginning and their rivalry turning to lust 🤌🏼
I don’t know any other way to describe the vibes except this is very F1 meets RWRB (as advertise)!!! And Kian reminded me so freaking much of Vettel 🥹 #iykyk
Did Harper annoyed the shit out of me? Yupp! But it’s a very real and flawed character which makes him very relatable. Still I did want to throw his head against a wall more than once (I promise I’m a very pacific person). But the way he gets so so obsessed with Kian damn!!
