I absolutely loved this collection of poems, it's full of poems discussing family, growing up, grief and more. The poems span the spectrum of emotions and have an ease of rhythm that makes them flow naturally. There are poems for anyone and everyone in this collection, and it's something you could easily read in one setting while still taking them in, but you can also read them over time and sit with them to really absorb the emotions and impact of the poems.
Organized in two parts: 1) No Age is Empty and 2) Sometimes We Need a Bigger Family, Naomi Shihab Nye presents a plethora of poems, each one bringing it's own uniqueness. Some are cute, some are funny, some are simply beautiful. Some are full of sorrow and of pain. No matter where you are in your life, one of these poems will speak to you. This book feels as though it's meant to be savored and enjoyed, not rushed through.
What a beautiful poetry collection. Naomi Shihab Nye invites the reader right into her family and introduces us to the kindness, humor, and love that is shared.
This collection has 100 brand new poems, and they are very personal and heartwarming. Inspiring and personal.
Great collection for middle grade readers and up.
I am a fan of Naomi Shihab Nye's work so I was thrilled to read this ARC. "Grace Notes" themes revolve around family relationships and the love and grace we share with one another. This is a heartfelt collection and I would recommend it for middle-schoolers and up. The cover does make it appear that this is a book for children, but it is enjoyable for adults and fans of Naomi Shihab Nye as well. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
