To say I enjoyed my trip to Haven River Ranch would be an understatement. For 300 pages, I felt like I too was on vacation deep in Montana. A very angsty vacation, but a vacation nonetheless.
Because if it's angst you're looking for, you'll find it in this story. That feeling of melancholy mixed with regret, despair and pain that I so love to feel when reading (yes, I know, I have issues) runs through almost every page of this book.
For Indya and West's relationship is not new. It begins when they're very young, in well-orchestrated flashbacks scattered throughout history, and continues today, when everything has changed for and around them.
I was worried that 300 pages wouldn't be enough to tell such a story, but I find the book perfect as it is. Would I have liked more? Yes. But as the series continues with a second book out on October 15, I'll be back with them in the fall.
Some books just make me obsessed from first page. And Crossroads by Devney Perry is that kind of book. This small town second chance romance delivers heartwarming and angsty feels so beautifully and perfectly in every chapter. Devney Perry hit my heart so hard and I have not recovered from the book hangover yet. Indya is perfect combination of sweet, fierce and vulnerable. And West is just the most perfect kind of book boyfriend. Ruggedly handsome. Deliciously alpha. Extremely protective and caring.Yet having a broken side. If you are looking for a romance giving you all the feels, this is the book for you.
West Haven's family ranch and lodge is under despair. They are broke. His stubborn father isn't making it easy. He get the surprise of his lifetime when Indya Keller reappears at the ranch and announces that she has bought it. They fell in love over years, one summer at a time, when she visited the ranch with her parents every year. But eight years ago, their paths separated. He never thought their paths will cross again. But what is Indya doing here?
My heart was shredded and then the pieces brought together again by the author. Through flashbacks, we get to experience how West and Indya became friends when they were just kids to their late 20s when they fell in love but never got the chance to say that. Their time was always short but so precious. Right now there is years of resentment and heartbreak and longing between them. Indya is at a devastating point of her life. She has lost almost everything and saving this ranch is her last goal to fulfill. But West is hurt initially because he sees it as a betrayal. This ranch is his lifeline. His everything. He is killing himself trying to keep it alive. Is Indya trying to take away his legacy? But he is still hopelessly in love with the girl who got away and that woman has the golden heart. It takes a bit to believe that she isn't the enemy. And that helps the old feeling to come rushing back. West and Indya's deeply emotional connection is the backbone of this story. You cannot help but feel every single emotion deep in your heart. The light moments. The scorching hot chemistry. The heartache, the pain and the all consuming need for each other. They both have so many scars and only their love helped them to heal. They both have experienced lots of ups and downs in the time they didn't have any contact. This time has hardened them and hurt them and consolidated the fact that they are best with each other. West and Indya found their way back to each other at a particularly difficult time of their lives but love made everything better.
PS THE RANCH AND THE NATURE AND THE PEOPLE EVERYTHING WAS DESCRIBED SO BEAUTIFULLY THAT IT FELT LIKE READING A MOVIE SCRIPT.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily
This was my first book by Devney and it was a solid 4⭐️ experience. I liked how fast this read was and how easy it was to connect with the characters and to start caring for what happens in the book. At times it felt slightly difficult to keep this connection though, as there were quite a few flashback chapters (probably around 30-40% of the book) and that took away page space for the current times love story. I enjoyed how West and Indya found each other throughout the book and how fluid the change between enemies to lovers and friends to lovers tropes was and in addition seasoned with a little bit of second chance romance as well. Sometimes it felt more the one, sometimes more the other tropes.
Concerning the characters, I found West to be a kind but not very open character. He is the quiet Cowboy type who doesn’t necessarily open up about his feelings easily. But trust me, it is worth the wait with him. In addition to him as main character, Indya is described in short that she loves her Dad and West. She is 100% loyal to her father and tries everything to treasure his memory and her memories with him in Montana. I liked her as a female lead in this book.
All in all I am very happy with this book and reading experience and hope to read more of Devney’s books in the future! This book gets my recommendation for anyone who would like to start a Cowboy romance journey or already loves the genre.
(A review will be posted on my Instagram and Goodreads on June 6th)
Devney Perry’s books make for a wonderful escape, and the first book in her new series, Crossroads is no exception.
I love the small town settings of her books, but a Montana guest ranch was a new setting. The story had a more epic feel, told in alternating POV and past and present time points. West and Indya were strong, stoic, kind, and emotionally mature, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop over time.
Despite the high flying real estate purchase, and the more sobering themes of loss, the present day events felt relatively low stakes, making for a very relaxing and satisfying read. I’d recommend to anyone who has enjoyed Devney Perry’s other series, or those looking for a sweet, friends to lovers romance.
Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
this is a deep and beautiful story. there is so much love, heartbreak, strength, trust, and acceptance between the characters here as they all navigate a new normal on the Haven River Ranch.
I loved Indya and her dedication to starting over, doing well by the ranch, and trying to find connection (or reconnection) in her life. she’s known so much heartbreak and I loved seeing her get a happy ending. West was a difficult character for me to understand. I get why he was upset by the sale of the ranch, but his whole life I didn’t get why he made the decisions he did regarding his family, friends, and Indya at times.
I loved the way he became a support for her, and how they worked together the make the ranch great. they have a beautiful connection and love story that has developed over their whole lives. the love, acceptance, and support shown between West and Indya was so beautiful to read.
thank you for the arc :)
"Crossroads" by Devney Perry is a heartwarming small-town romance that captures the essence of love, loss, and rekindled connections. The story follows the journey of Indya who returns to Montana, not just as a visitor but as the new owner of the Haven River Ranch. Her childhood memories with West Haven, the boy who once stole her heart, come flooding back as they work together to save the ranch.
The setting of Montana is beautifully depicted, and the characters are relatable and engaging. The chemistry and banter between them are spot on, making their interactions enjoyable to read. While some parts of the story felt predictable, the overall feeling is one of comfort and nostalgia. This book sets a strong foundation for the Haven River Ranch series, leaving me eager to dive into the next installment.
A delightful and easy read that fans of small-town romance will appreciate.
Very grateful to the publisher for this copy, opinions are my own.
thank you, Devney, for the Arc in exchange for an honest review ... and of course, this was a 5 star read !! Devney Perry doesn't let me down !
I loved the tension of this book, I couldn't put it down. The palpable chemistry between West and Indy and their childhood chapters were adorable, and to see they grow just made me giddy.
I loved Indy's relationship with her father was so sweet. I don't think her mother was on page a lot but, her relationship was the prominent one.
And then you see a parallel of West and his father. A sad and tense relationship that you just wanted to hug West. West just might be a favourite of Perry's... he's tied with a Knox (Juniper Hill).
How grief was displayed in this just broke me, and yet it was beautiful.

Crossroads was outstanding! It was a beautiful and emotional story with the most incredible build! I loved how everything unfolded, it was a love story that spanned over time and then culminated into an exceptional happily ever after. There were remarkable details that pulled me in and the storytelling was stellar. This book had me holding my breath and I loved it all.
Indya and West were truly amazing characters. I loved learning about their lives from the past and present and when those moments intersected and paralleled with the present day. The feelings between them ran deep and I felt that longing between them, the pull they had to one another. This story was filled with emotion and so many significant and poignant moments as they got to know each other as adults and connected. It was full of depth and layers and I loved all the nuances taking place.
I loved learning about their different family dynamics and the things that happened in their lives to form who they are. It’s complicated, messy, and real. I felt so much for West’s brother Jax and am really looking forward to his story in Sunlight. Besides Indya’s relationship with West, other aspects are unfolding related to her, and the wait to find out all those details was just as killer as waiting for the two of them to get to their HEA. There's some mild drama along the way, really good steam, and a whole lot of emotion. My feelings were all over the place and I needed more tissues than I want to admit.
This was a descriptive story with exceptional details and I thought it moved at an exciting pace. I was filled with so many questions and I loved that it really built to those answers. I was invested and rooting for them. The ending and epilogue were wonderful, I loved the growth and healing. I thought this was a phenomenal read filled with love and heart and so much emotion! New Devney Perry favorite!
First let me thank the publishers, Netgalley, and the author for the amazing opportunity to read this book early!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I DEVOURED this book, it was that amazing! I couldn’t put it down I simply needed to know what was going to happen next! This is the first book I’ve read by Devney Perry and I will absolutely be going through the whole backlist now because Crossroads was amazing! If you’re looking for an emotional read, with a hard fought for romance, amazing characters, a beautiful backdrop and just the right amount of sizzle than this book is an absolute must read!
Crossroads is the first in the Haven River Ranch series, and boy oh boy is it a start! In Crossroads we get the dual pov of Indya and West… Indya and her family have spent many a year at Crazy Cattle Mountain Resort, and made many a memory. But heartbreak of the deepest kind has kept Indy away, that is until she returns in a whirlwind and is suddenly not just a guest but the sole owner. But the history is as deep as the heartbreak… and her heartbreak is staring her in the face everyday in the form of West. West has loved the ranch since he was old enough to love but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a weight on his shoulders when he and his father can’t seem to agree on even the smallest of things when it comes to the ranch… but West is hopeful that all he needs to do is wait out his dad, eventually he’ll retire and the ranch will be his… behold his surprise when Indy a girl he’s loved from afar his whole life is now his boss!
In this amazing book we get to follow Indya and West as they transverse through years of I wishes. Not only do we get the dual POV of their love as adults and watch their swoon-worthy blossom a new, even through some difficult decisions, hard feelings and old heartbreak, but we get to see their growth from children and see a sweet love blossom from childish admiration, to crush, to passionate love. It’s a truly beautiful romance, and I loved every second of it! And while the romance is the main focus, I just couldn’t help but love the characters individually as well. Indy is a girly sunshine FMC, but she doesn’t for a second let that stop her from being an amazing boss, who knows how to run a show and run it well! I also loved just how relatable she was, I think a lot of people can relate to the feeling of having to be others rocks and bottling up your own feelings until the dam inevitably bursts, and as much as I loved Indy as a boss, her more tender and vulnerable moments were just as spectacular. And then you have West who is your typical rough and tumble grumpy cowboy who is soft for only those he’s deemed worthy in his heart. And of course while his rough exterior was easy to fall in love with much like Indy though, it was when we got to see his more vulnerable and deeper wishes for his life where his character went from lovable to swoony! He wanted his family looked after, he wanted his ranch not just for the money but to maintain his families legacy, and he wanted to continue his family with the girl he’s loved for pretty much his whole life. And truly how can you not love that!
Add all that to a beautiful back drop, just enough drama and secrets to keep things interesting and you’ve got yourself a stunning second chance romance that is honestly just an amazing book and a blow you away read that should be at the top of any romance readers TBR!
HAPPY READING 📖
This was soo freaking good, I could not put it down! It’s the first book I’ve read by this author and I’ve clearly been missing out! Immediately adding her back catalogue to my TBR.
The dual time line was perfection and gave a great insight into our two MCs and the circumstances that led to where they are today! And the angst and tension between them, phew I could feel it in my bones! If ever two characters were meant to end up together it’s West and Indy! They are each others person. Can’t wait to read more books by this author.
I absolutely loved this one so much. This book was so good it had right person just wrong timing. I was so in love with the characters and honestly felt so connected to Indya & West.
West and Indya have always had a connection ever since she was 8 and he was 10 and I honestly loved the past and present chapters I wish more authors would do this with their books when writing a second chance romance
“Never again. I never want to see you walk away from me again.”
Crossroads by Devney Perry is the first book in a brand new series... and gah, this book hurt so good!! It was a story of second chances, heartache, loss, and grief.
West and Indya's roads always seemed to cross. Indya would spend most of her summers with her parents in Montana at the Crazy Mountain Cattle Resort. She met West one summer when she was eight years old and soon they became friends. West didn't want to entertain her, so it isn't until they're older when their feelings changed into something more. But le sigh, timing just wasn't on their side nor was it ever right. Yet, once again, Montana brings them back together 😭 when Indya returns four years later as the owner of the resort.
The love Devney has for Montana spills out of the pages through the use of beautiful descriptions that are vivid and full of imagery. A slow burning romance with wonderful secondary characters that began this series just right— Crossroads is another masterpiece! I can't wait to read more!!
She has loved him since she was 8, little did she know that he had always loved her to. But life had always gotten in their way and that love never had a chance to bloom. And now she was here to take the one thing in the world he cares about most, his family's ranch. Will this completely destroy the feelings that West and Indi once shared or will it, maybe, open up the opportunity to that love that was once so long ago buried.
A new favorite from Devney Perry!! I loved this book so much and it was exactly what I loved in a Devney Perry book. I can't wait to see where this series goes!
I was sucked into this one from the very beginning. Devney does second chance so well and I loved the setup with Indya coming back to take over West's family ranch. He was not happy about it lol, but I loved the tension between them and you could really feel how much they loved each other, even when they were trying to deny their feelings.
I loved how their past was told in different flashbacks. I felt like we really got to know them and see them growing up. I truly fell in love with both West and Indya, and Indya's dad ❤️ Despite it being a shorter book, I thought the pacing was really good and we got answers and movement in their relationship at the right times.
And I just really loved them both as characters. West is the perfect cowboy and I love how he loved Indya. He's my type of hero! And Indya was such a likeable FMC. They both had things they were working through and I loved that they were finally able to lean on each other.
And we got such a great introduction into the ranch and some hints at the next couple 😏 I can't wait to read it! Such a fantastic start to a new series and one everyone should pick up when it releases!!
I loved everything about this book! I went into it thinking it would be a fun, small town cowboy romance, and little did I know it would be packed with angst, emotional depth, and that tears would be shed! Even though Indya and West had only seen each other for a week every year (sometimes not even every year), you could still tell how deeply they cared about each other and how real their relationship was. I absolutely loved how down bad West was for Indya, these characters just felt so real to me! Devney Perry slayed once again, 4.5 stars!
why is this the single most conflicting book known to mankind??? there were some parts i really liked, like the setting and characters but at other points i didn’t like how the relationship developed (at least in present time).
she was a cute past and present pov childhood friends to lovers but *something* that i just can’t put my finger on was missing. i’m really thinking it was them in the present trying to find their way back to each other because there were hookups galore before there was conversation, not my cup of tea. and also the fact that there was NEVER foreplay???? i’m not over that 😐
I am an emotional mess. From the start opening sentence the emotion coming through the writing I felt it was going to be heavy. The tension between Indya and West was intense throughout the whole book. I am still wiping away tears just thinking about the book.
I swear, every Devney Perry book I read just gets better and better! Crossroads is full of heart, longing, and off the charts chemistry. I loved everything about this book!
I really enjoyed this small-town/cowboy romance. The story flowed very naturally and the book was fast paced. But I also felt very connected to the main and the side characters. The flashbacks in their timeline and the way it connected to current day was really enjoyable. There was also grief representation and death of a family member. I do think that was handled well plus had me emotional a few times. It was also a great start to a new series and definitely has me wanting more.
I’ve never met a Devney Perry book I didn’t like, and Crossroads quickly became one of my favorites. I binged this in a night because I couldn’t put it down. This one brought all the feels and all the tears. Literally. There was some ugly crying happening when it hit harder than I expected it to. West & Indya have a secret past that no one knows about, and I adored seeing their relationship over time. I desperately wanted them to have so much more time and just be together, but their lives only aligned for those summer trips until Indya came back as the new owner of the ranch. These two both have so much love and so much hurt between them, and their story was heartbreakingly beautiful. West is the definition of a broody cowboy and Indya is determined and has the weight of the world on her. Even years later, these two still have an unspoken language between them, and I enjoyed every second of watching them finally get their chance at love. Heartbreaking. Healing. Raw. Captivating. This one has utterly consumed me. West & Indya are everything.
