I loved and adored the first story. The one that says “a job is a job and a job must be done, but a you is a you and you must also have fun”. It reminded me of a cute little dr Seuss book but for grown ups. I love it. The second one was alright, it reminded me of how my brain feels foggy during the day because I can’t sleep at night. The rest of them made no sense. Like, who actually give a crap about what they say at the bottom of an email? Who even uses email in 2024? That one was really weird and so pointless and honestly now I can’t even remember the other ones. The clown one? wtf was that? How many people have “clown” as their job and can relate to that one? That was so oddly specific I don’t get it. 3 stars because the first one was a 5 star one but the rest kinda sucked.

This quick little read is reminiscent of a Dr. Seuss book for adults in both prose and illustration. It would make for a cute gift for a coworker you’re friendly with and I think any adult can find an aspect of it to relate to. I know for me “Night Party” that looked just a little *too* familiar and “Sincerely, yours” was downright adorable.

First impression: this looks like children books but the title mentions workday so it must be for adult
After reading: this books is a little bit weird but relatable lmao. Entertaining purpose achieved✅

This was a cute, short read that made me smile. It took your typical, mundane work day and put a spin on it with cute drawings and I finished it in one go! I loved the orange kitty especially. Each part was relateable to me and I loved how it was written. The book would be a cute gift for a friend!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. I received a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review

Oh my heart. This book just felt like a warm hug for my weary capitalistic, millennial soul.

A collection of illustrated stories, this book really feels like a bedtime story book for adults. It's got very Seuss-ian vibes, especially the first story, that feel like updated adult conscious stories. Beautifully illustrated, and delightful rhyming, I highly recommend picking this up for a read if you are feeling the grind of being an adult getting you down.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book kind of gives me a 'Dr. Seuss for adults' kind of vibe. I quite enjoyed it, some stories were more enjoyable than others, the first one "A job is a job" was my favourite.

Overall, a nice quick read that's very relatable.

Bravo! I loved everything about this adorable book. The first poem especially was like dark Dr Seuss, and I could really relate to it.
What's it like being a grownup and having to deal with the world and adult situations all the time? How can we balance our lives? And then the contrast with the beautiful, bright pictures ...
I'm definitely going to check out this webcomic and possibly gift this book to friends.
Thanks to NetGalley for making this available to me

i am a big fan of pich and kunz's other work, but this one didn't have the dark, but relatable humor that i have come to expect. this doesn't mean it wasn't fun, but it's just okay with a dr. seuss like style picture book style meant for adults. the revelations are very basic mental health realizations though.

A cute, fun, and easy read a-la Dr. Seuss. I enjoyed this book a lot and it would make for a fun not-so-serious gift for the workaholic in your life.

3.5 out of 5 Star

A cute and easy read that only takes a few minutes to get through. It was quite enjoyable considering I don't usually like rhythmic writing and poetry

Firstly, the art was so cute and pleasing to the eye!

I was surprised to see the verses being so dark in the first few pages. It was an interesting contrast that made me value this book more and pay attention to every word written. Not only that, but some rhymes were sort of comical, which made it an enjoyable read. It conveys important messages about work life and mental health in a lighthearted way.

I do have to mention that some fragments were directly directed at the reader, and they hit a little too close, lol. It felt more like a piece of a self-help book adapted into a cute format.

I think it's a good gift for that family member who is always stressed. Who knows? Maybe they will reflect!

Thank you for the EArc NetGalley and Andrew’s McMeel. Once Upon. Workday is a series of rhyming stores accompanied by the most adorable illustrations. Sort of reminded me of a grown up Dr Seuss if you will. Really quick read and definitely an entertaining one with some good self care reminders sprinkled in.

This was truly such a fun read. As someone who eventually quit their job due to all the stress, I felt very seen reading this

I really liked the spirit of this book and the personal, unique art style it featured. Full of whimsy, some of the sections felt like Dr. Seuss for adults. The only part that held me back from giving a higher rating is that some portions felt like they were created to form more rhymes rather than to add to the plot. That being said, I recognize that this was a meant to be a short, lighthearted book and I did enjoy it.

What I liked:
- the art style was cute

What I disliked:
- written in verse
- only one story was really about a workday
- use of a made up word
- unhelpful message: if you’re unhappy with your job, just work less or not at all, prioritise your mental health. Sounds great in theory, but if the authors think that’s an option for everyone, maybe they should check their privilege.

Just what I needed right now!

This short, funny, adult comic book, in the style of Dr. Seuss, gives the reader hilarious insight into the emotional and physical toll that work stress causes. I identified with so many of the vignettes, especially the brain's inability to sleep!

This is a perfect gift for anyone who works, but especially anyone working in a high-stress role. It will give them a nice laugh!

Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read, view and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Once Upon a Workday was a very fun, heavily Dr. Seuss inspired book! I appreciated the author's exploration of stress, anxiety, and artistic frustration. I loved the final story the most about a clown who knows he has to spread cheer, even if he doesn't feel up to it. A great read!

Once Upon a Workday is a refreshingly candid look at the challenges of adulthood through rhyme and verse, with an illustrated style that reminds me of Dr. Seuss. At some point, most of us have experienced burnout, sleepless nights, or self-criticism, and the illustrations and verses cleverly speak to those relatable moments in a hopeful yet honest way.

This is an absolutely charming collection of stories that would be perfect for gifting to friends or colleagues! I can’t wait to gift this little gem.

A really funny look at work from the popular webcomic, War and Peas! Told in verse with amusing illustrations that capture the text perfectly in art. If you have worked, are working, wish you could quit, or happily retired, this short series of stories will make you guffaw!
