This is a brilliant examination of the queer experience, especially the experience of learning to date and put yourself out there. The main character is completely changing trajectory in their life and it's refreshing to see a main character who isn't immediately suave and a master of the dating game. Don't worry if you're not proficient in Astrology, this book is so much more.

The premise of this book is interesting. Dating the zodiac signs, meeting new people in search to finding love. It was cute, it had a couple of cute dates and interesting characters. I think the minor issue I had is that since they went on lots of dates, like the romance was all over the place (for me). The one character I was like, HEY BE OPEN TO GETTING TO KNOW THIS ONE, was friend zoned then in the end they do end up with them.

So, idk. I liked it. Didn't love it.

I got an e-arc of this book on NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Looking for a Sign offers a charming premise that intertwines the quest for love with the mysteries of astrology in the vibrant backdrop of New Orleans. Gray, a newly single queer woman, embarks on a unique journey to find her perfect match by dating someone from each astrological sign before her twenty-ninth birthday.

i loved learning so much about the signs! However, i felt that the pacing occasionally falters, and the convergence of Gray's romantic pursuits and her professional life might have benefited from more distinct focus. Additionally, some aspects of the narrative feel more like exposition rather than fully realized scenes.

Overall though a delightful sapphic read with a refreshing twist on the romcom genre. The concept of dating through the Zodiac adds a playful and engaging dimension to the story, making it a fun and memorable read for fans of contemporary romance

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this early copy!

I really wanted to like this book, but nothing really hooked my attention, and I found myself forcing myself to pick it up again each time.

this was really fun! i definitely feel like the premise requires a little suspension of disbelief, but overall i had a blast reading this. if you, like me, are into astrology, i think you’ll like this one. the characters all often feel like the stereotypes of their signs, but in a fun way, if that makes sense? i did feel that the endgame couple lacked some of the chemistry the main character had with other people she dated, but i still was satisfied by the ending.

i loved the friendship between gray and cherry, and i also really enjoyed the fun exploration of new orleans in this book.

definitely pick this up if you’re interested in a super gay romance that’s just a whole lot of fun!

thank you to the publisher for sending a digital ARC my way via Netgalley!

This book had a really unique premise that I enjoyed a lot. The book had a lot of potential but as somebody who doesn’t know a lot about or follow astrology I may not have been quite the target audience as I found it hard to get into the idea of choosing a partner based on their zodiac sign. I liked the idea that at least the main character was trying different options rather than just saying “oh I’m most compatible with X sign”. The characters were cute and it was a quick read. Definitely a good rom com choice that I think would land even better for someone who is into astrology.

Review: Looking for a Sign by Susie Dumond ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Thank you to NetGalley and The Dial Press for the opportunity to read this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is a fast-paced, rom-com following Gray, a queer woman who sets out to go on a date with prospective romantic partners from each of the 12 zodiac signs - all before her 30th birthday. Set in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Looking for a Sign is a fun, sexy read with an emphasis on LQBTQIA+ romance.

This book definitely made me want to plan more elaborates dates with my partner 😂. Overall I had a good time reading this story, though at times I felt that the actual time spent with the different zodiac dates was a bit rushed and almost took a backseat to the B plot about Gray’s career. At times, the dates fell victim to surface level astrological stereotypes, which didn’t match the depth and unique personality that Dumond gave to Gray and the other characters in the story. Cherry and Veronica felt like the most realistic characters in the story, and made Gray feel a bit more grounded.

I really loved Gray’s exploration of her own sexuality and her openness and understanding of each of her dates’ sexuality and identity.

Looking for a Sign will be published June 11th 2024!

Gray goes on a quest to date a person for each astrology sign and to sleep with a person from each elemental sign. Dumond takes the reader on some bad first dates and some interesting new relationships. Gray finds several of the dates worthy, but struggles when she meets Veronica who pushes Gray to be more professional. The reader knows that the stars aligned with Veronica long before Gray worked out her own feelings. This book is both serious and lighthearted. A fun summer read!

This was a cute enough and fun queer romance read. I found all of the love interests to be a bit chaotic and a bit much. It was good enough to finish, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it.

I thought this book had such a fun and cute concept! If you’re into astrology, you’ll especially appreciate it, but astrology knowledge isn’t a prerequisite for reading.

Gray’s girlfriend of ten years recently broke up with her. She moves from Tulsa to New Orleans, where she’s temporarily staying with her best friend, the best friend’s husband, and their toddler son. They made an adorable found family. Gray’s best friend, Cherry, encourages her to try going on a date with someone from each zodiac sign. Gray downloads a dating app and dives in headfirst, working her way through the signs while exploring New Orleans and settling in at her new job. Her dating adventures are by turns fun, steamy, and occasionally cringe-worthy..

I was really into this book for the first 40% or so, then found the pacing started to slow. I managed to figure out who the main love interest was and kept waiting for things to develop more romantically between them. (I’m trying so hard not to spoil anything here.) I just wanted a little more action and feelings with the person Gray would end up with.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I’ll definitely read more of Susie Dumond’s work in the future.

This is an ADORABLE plot, and so full of potential! Not only does Gray learn about astrology and all of its intricacies, but also discovers more about herself and her sense of adventure.

We see Gray make a lot of meaningful friendships along the way, showing off found family and what it means to be supported is always a huge plus for me. There's a lot of wit and charm in this book, and whether you're a believer or not, you're going to enjoy this read.

This book features the story of Gray, during the months preceding her 29th birthday and her Saturn return. She embarks on a series of dating trials to date each of the astrological signs to see which she is most compatible with. Throughout the trials Gray learns more about herself and goes on a journey of personal growth.
I enjoyed the premise of the book. Although, the ending was a touch predictable. Susie Dumond’s descriptions of each scene transport you right into the book.
I would recommend this book to romantics that are fans of astrology. However, you do not need to be a hardcore astrologist to enjoy the book.

While it took me a bit to get into the book, and while I don’t know anything about astrology, I enjoyed this book. The way the various dates were weaved in was fun, I loved the MCs friends, and I was truly emotionally invested. Recommend!

"Looking for a Sign" by Susie Dumond is a captivating read with an original concept that grabbed my attention from the start. Gray, an optimistic lesbian Aries, sets out on a quest to find love and build a family after a breakup. With the help of her best friend Cherry, she dates someone from each zodiac sign to test compatibility. Dumond's storytelling is engaging and filled with humor and relatable moments as Gray navigates the ups and downs of dating in New Orleans. What I loved most is its exploration of love, identity, and self-discovery. Overall, it's a delightful blend of romance and humor that will leave you smiling.

4.25 stars. This was super fun, quick, easy read while also managing to touch on themes of figuring yourself out and finding your path. I loved the astrology theme and the concept of going on a date with each sign in the zodiac was really cool. There was a rich cast of supporting characters that really filled out the story. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a cute, sweet and fun read!

Thank you NetGalley and Random House for this ARC. First of all, Susie Dumond writes very well. I felt the dialog was great and the characters were individualized, and there was a solid plot that kept the story moving. Gray meets with a renowned astrologer after breaking up with her long term girlfriend which leads her on an experiment to try dating someone from each of the twelve astrological signs. Between her new job and her supportive friends, Gray feels open to the exploration as long as it helped her reach her ultimate goal of a wife and family. She eventually realizes that astrology is only a tool and doesn't provide all the answers she thought it would.

The first two-thirds of this book were ok; it was humorous but not laugh out loud funny, it was kind of obvious where things were headed but still unclear how it would happen. The last third of the novel was really what I felt made the story worthy of four stars. Once we got out of the somewhat kitschy plot device of dating all the signs, the real depth to both Gray's character and her challenges, especially concerning her past experience with her family's religious expectations, was revealed and felt very emotionally relatable. I'm glad I stuck it out because it was definitely worth getting to that. It made the resolution feel true and unforced.

In the vibrant streets of New Orleans, where jazz notes hang in the air like promises, “Looking for a Sign” by Susie Dumond weaves a delightful tale of love, self-discovery, and celestial alignment. This story is a rom-com that will leave you grinning, sighing, and perhaps even checking your horoscope.

Meet Gray, a newly single queer woman who relocates to the Big Easy after a breakup with her long-term partner. Armed with optimism and an Aries spirit, Gray sets out on a mission: to find her most compatible match by going on a date with someone from each astrological sign. Yes, you read that right: twelve dates, twelve signs, and a whole lot of cosmic curiosity.

As Gray navigates the quirky world of New Orleans dating, she encounters a cast of characters as diverse as the city itself. From the fiery passion of an Aries to the dreamy introspection of a Pisces, each date brings its own surprises. And let's not forget Madame Nouvelle Lune, the astrologer who encourages Gray to look to the stars for guidance. Skeptical yet desperate, Gray dives into this quintessentially queer dating challenge.

But "Looking for a Sign" isn't just about zodiac compatibility. It's about finding oneself amid the constellations. Gray's journey isn't just about romance; it's about understanding her own needs, desires, and sense of adventure. Dumond deftly explores themes of family, acceptance, and the courage to leap into the unknown, even when Saturn's return threatens to shake everything up.

The writing sparkles like a star-studded sky. Dumond's prose is both tender and witty, capturing the essence of New Orleans: the sultry nights, the jazz-filled bars, and the magic that hangs in the humid air. You'll feel the rhythm of the city as you turn the pages, and you might even catch yourself humming a jazz tune.

And the characters? Oh, they're as vibrant as Mardi Gras beads. Gray's best friend, Cherry, adds a dash of sass and wisdom. The dates, each sign with its quirks and charms, will make you root for Gray's heart to find its cosmic match. And then there's Gray herself: a mix of vulnerability and determination, seeking love while learning to love herself.

"Looking for a Sign" is a celebration of found family, second chances, and the magic that happens when you dare to look beyond the earthly realm. Whether you're a believer in astrology or a skeptic, this book will leave you smiling and believing that love might just be written in the stars. Let Dumond take you on a celestial adventure. Trust me, you'll want to follow the signs all the way to the last page.

I read this book on NetGalley - I gotta say the synopsis of this book did not disappoint. It is funny, charming, and one I will definitely reread again. Gray is going thru a pinnacle in her life and decides to go see Madame Nouvelle Lune to get her birth chart read. Madame Nouvelle made me want to find a way to meet her and get my birth chart read. Gray goes on 12 different dates with every sign, it was exciting to see which sign she would be her match. I love that although Grays growth was quick, Susie didn't skip watching her going thru the motions, to where it doesn't feel all too rushed. I can't wait to read it again once its out.
