A lovely slow-burn romance in which Daniel inherits a title he never expected nor wanted, and with it comes responsibilities and burdens that overwhelm him, including the woman his brother appears to have made promises to but, reneged on them. When Daniel meets Nora Harvey, he is astounded at her beauty, independence, and willingness to earn her own way. Nora has had her fill of selfish men, including those in her own family, but she cannot help but feel tenderness from growing towards Daniel, the Fourteenth Duke of Thornfalcone. Not wanting to tread on territory that was his deceased brother's, Daniel steps gently around Nora, but with every encounter his feelings for her increase. Finally, Nora tells him the truth about her relationship with David, but by then it is almost too late and Daniel is forced to confront his brother's actions. Despite an act of violence, the novel does come to a lovely conclusion as Nora and Daniel find their path to happiness. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I had a difficult time getting into this story. While Nora is rightly disenchanted with the male species, she comes across as a shrew with her OTT anger and rudeness. I could not see what was so attractive about her besides her looks. I was also frustrated with there being no explanation about Nora’s history. How did she get to her current situation? What was her arrangement with the former Duke of Thornefalcone, Daniel’s twin brother? There were hints that she was gentry and that something happened to make her fall from grace, but it was not explained until well into the book.
Daniel was a nicer character although most of the book he bumbled along making it impossible to believe he was also a spy for the Crown. I could not connect with either character.

Another really nice addition to the Dukes in Danger series!
This one is about Daniel, shy and used to a simpler life, who suddenly inherits his twin brother’s title after spending most of his life as an overlooked and unappreciated spare, and Nora, a lady fallen from society’s grace.
He’s uncomfortable in his new role as a duke, and even more so when he discovers his brothers negligence and wastefulness. She’s wary of gentlemen and their intentions after being treated poorly by them - them being her brother, her former fiancé, his brother and some others.
These two have an awkward start to say the least. She’s desperate to be rid of him - really, she’ll do anything to make him leave and not return - and he means well, falls head over heels for her at first sight, but somehow always puts his foot in it. She’s no easy kitten, yet he clumsily persists and this makes for an unusual dynamic between these MCs. It’s not often you get an uncertain hero fumbling and admitting his weakness - he’s absolutely endearing!
I loved how it stayed interesting and entertaining even though nothing major happens. It’s set in Bath and there’s wit, romance, a pinch of scandal and a dash of chaos, but it’s really focused on the couple and how they grow together establishing trust and friendship first. A patient story with some drama near the end to give it a kick. This tale is most definitely a slow burn, but since she’s no innocent, the steam is well worth the wait!

When a confused, innocent 2nd son becomes a Duke (Daniel) meets his dead brother’s “mistress”, chaos ensues! Nora is a fallen woman, angry at the world, her brother and herself and takes it out on any male that comes in her path. This is an adorable story of how a softhearted man falls for a hard hearted woman and the fun that comes from it all. I loved how Daniel keeps getting himself in trouble with her and it was joyous to see Nora’s heart finally melt. I laughed when Daniel finally gets the best of his butler and swooned when he protected Nora by taking blows from a blackguard. This characters are so well written and the plot so fun. Really enjoyed this!
I received this book for free and these are my own opinions

We love a former courtesan getting a happy ending with a man who doesn’t judge her for her past and only wants the best for her!! The final act twist abduction felt like it came out of nowhere, and and Daniel's backstory as a sort-of spy felt a bit thin, but I enjoyed myself.

Can doing right by his dead brother's mistress lead to love? Daniel finds himself now the Duke, but has no idea how to be one. Nora had a fall from society and is now living in a small cottage trying to get by even if that means being a courtesan.
Daniel is such a down to earth character and reminded me of a nervous young boy around Nora. He tried so hard and there are points I just wanted him to go for it. Nora was definitely wary due to her past and had some views on how dangerous Dukes can be.
The only frustration in this book was how long it took to get the details of Nora's fall from society and arrangement with Daniel's twin David. I was surprised how much she worried about how she was perceived due to scandal instead of keeping her head held high.
Daniel definitely made this book being a bit quirky, caring, and cute. I hope he shows up in future books.
Thanks to Dragonblade and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

Deny her— deny Nora? Never in his life would he do such a thing. Tell the woman he loved she could not have what she wanted, do what she wanted, go where she pleased?
This quote sums up this book so beautifully. Daniel and Nora had me smiling and giggling the entire time! This book is not the typical game and young virgin plot which I just eat up. Nora is a woman who has been wronged by society and men. Daniel is man that is not sure of his place in life now that he is the duke but he knows that Nora makes his life amazing.
Thank you NetGalley for the DRC in exchange for my honest opinion.

When Daniel inherits the dukedom on his twin brother’s death, he is amazed at the mess he has to clean up. When he gets a request from a lady pleading for help he is shocked when she is a beautiful woman. Assuming she was his brother’s mistress he tries to help her all the while trying to deny his own attraction to her. Nora can not believe Daniel is so different from his brother and most men she has known. They must learn to trust each other. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

This was such a wonderful love story. I enjoyed it very much. The storyline was spot on and was well executed. I recommend it.
