Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
This was a sweet story, but it's pretty much only focused on the yearning between the two boys. The author writes the yearning VERY well, honestly some of the best I've read. But aside from that, the story is somewhat lackluster. I did enjoy seeing one boy already realize his feelings and trying to ignore them, while the other is slowly coming to realize how he feels as well. But the ending is weirdly abrupt and feels like the author didn't know how to finish the story. So they just ended it. The bonus chapter was cute but doesn't really work as an epilogue of any sort, it's just a random chapter they couldn't figure out to put into the main story.
Title: My Ultramarine Sky
Rating: 3.5/5
A cute and fluffy BL friends to lovers romance set in high school, I love how the author ended the manga by quoting 'My Ultramarine Sky', it gives a beautiful touch to the finale.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC, this is voluntarily submitted with an honest review.

A one shot volume of two high school boys who have always been in the same class, now separated and understanding their feelings.
I cried. Like, if that doesn’t tell you I enjoyed and loved reading this, then I don’t know what does. Understanding emotions is hard and expressing them correctly can be even more difficult. The author has done an excellent job in portraying this story, with impactful yet meaningful words and artwork.
This story is simple. Kai and Ren have been in the same class, sitting next to each other since their second year of high school. They unconsciously ended up spending time together and re-enacting BL scenes for the entertainment of their friends. However, they are separated in their last year of high school and as they understand their feelings the realization grows.
The seamless integration of interwoven flashbacks and simple, yet concise dialogue brings this story to life. There was a delicate balance between spoken dialogues and thoughts which helped portray not only the emotions of the characters but the progression in the story. Time flowed but as a reader, I never felt it was too fast or too slow; it was just right.
The artwork is quite simple. It’s not detailed or background heavy. It was just enough to compliment the gentleness of the story while depicting key details and expressions. There aren’t many characters in this manga but those that are, are highly expressive and enliven the dialogues. The combination of both the words and characters made me feel a lot of emotions throughout. Without giving spoilers, I felt sad for Kai and yet blushed with happiness at the end.
Overall, this will be a manga I can already see myself reading multiple times. It’s clean, simple and impactful. Filled with respect between the characters, and a sweet romance set in a high school, this is definitely one I recommend!
This was a cute, slice of life BL. It's perfectly fine, but also not that memorable, and definitely not one of my favourites from Furuya. Also, I had to look up the original publishing date for this manga because the art style felt like a downgrade from My Summer of You, and it was originally published before that series, so just something to be aware of.
My Ultramarine Sky is a simple but well done BL book that covers everything from their meeting to when they actually fess up to each other. The story doesn't get too spicy so it's safe enough to buy for a minor reader who has expressed interest in the BL genre.
I really enjoyed reading this manga. I felt in love reading each interaction between the main characters.
The only reason it couldn't be a 5 stars for me is that it felt like a short chapter of a story. I felt like I was getting in the middle of the story, and I wanted to read more about them. Unfortunatelly it's an autoconclusive manga :(
Way too short but cute and establishes a pretty lovable cast of characters quickly. The coming together felt surprisingly natural and the imbalance of affections at first was appropriately awkward and navigated tenderly. Will seek out more by this mangaka.
Cute and wholesome! Loved the art. Story was very good. Liked the characters a lot. The drawing style was not always detailed enough to be good, but overall it looked very nice.
Kodansha puts out some absolutely fantastic manga. I loved that I was able to read this manga via NetGalley. It has been added to my physical to buy list once I get back to a bookstore.
This was a heartwarming queer awakening story of two Japanese boys who have been inseparable since meeting in middle school, and now they are faced with not being in the same class for the first time in years and they find themselves missing each other more and more. And figuring out why they are missing each other.
The story is fast paced (nature of the manga format, that and that this is a stand alone rather than a series), but there's beautiful character self discovery and growth and I love when communication is identified as being oh so important and clears up confusion. There's not miscommunication, just not a full expression of emotions.
Highly recommend for lovers of Heartstopper.
I really enjoyed this sweet oneshot of high school friends-to-lovers romance. Its a trope thats been done many times before as we see one character fall in love with their friend, struggle with that realization and what it means for their friendship, and then they come together upon realizing the feeling is mutual.
The art was really nice in this one and I felt like the two MCs complimented each other well personality wise. While the conflicts could have been solved a lot sooner with healthier communication I like to think they can now properly grow in to their relationship together.
I loved the pining at the beginning and the realization at the end.
This was a sweet one.
I think it was perfect the way it is if it’s a standalone.
Furuya has managed another sweet coming-of-age slice-of-life romance! (that was a lot of hyphens)
Getting both Kai's and Ren's perspective gives the reader a chance to see the depth of the relationship on both sides as well as follow their separate journeys to their own internal realization. I found it a little rougher to read than "My Summer of You", but that may just be Kai's personality is a tad more brusque/oblivious to social tones than I'm used to in my slice-of-life. This is definitely two teenagers fumbling around with their attempts at communication, and while it does have a slower pace at time ti allows for both character's to express themselves more.
Sweet and idealistic <3
‘My Ultramarine Sky’ was ok not the best I have read from Nagisa Furuya but it was ok, the art work was nice.
Rating 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a pretty simple but well told story. I liked the characters but I couldn't give 5 stars because honestly, I just wanted a little more. Both main characters could have been more complex and while I liked the artwork, I wanted a little more angst. But for a straightforward story, I enjoyed this.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kondasha publishers for accepting me as pre-publication reviewer of the English translation of this manga.
This follows Kai and Ren who have been in the same class all through middle and most of high school but are separated in their final year. From this, Kai feels they’re growing apart and whilst Ren is asleep decides to tell him his love may not be wholly platonic. But will this be reciprocated?
I loved how this manga goes along, the two MCs were great, rather complex and we also get introduced to their friends which was nice. The flashback moments to Ren and Kai’s past were very nice and definitely added to the current plot line. The artwork is very cute and so’s the story as a whole but I didn’t like how a lot of times characters are drawn with only one eye, like I just couldn’t take my eye off it (I didn’t mean to do that) and just felt it was strange. The dual POV aspect was nice which allows the reader to understand both of these characters in more depth. I think this would have been better as a series maybe as I was left pining for more and felt it was too short for all the development I wished for. I also really appreciated this manga not containing any explicit scenes which is so common in BLs, containing fluff but it’s not loads with most of the story being grounded in the character studies and their relationship.
Overall, I did enjoy this a lot and would recommend it. It’s not a favourite but has made me want to check out more of Nagisa Furuya’s works.
This I my first manga by this artist. I have to say I enjoyed reading this story. I loved the characters and that this story is friends to lovers. My only issue is that I wanted more. I felt that this could have been a few volumes so that we would get more about Ren and his feelings for Kia. Overall, this is a great quick read and I hope to see more by author.
Two best friends, who were always in the same class, experienced a sudden change of pace in their relationship when they were not in the same class anymore. They grew apart... until they came to terms with their own feelings. This is a sweet journey of discovering a love that has always been there.
I wish this wasn't a stand-alone, cause I want to know more about these two boys, and also their friends, Kanamecchi and Ando! But as it is, it does a good job in focusing on the main couple, especially because we've got to see both POVs.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha for an arc in exchange for an honest review!
Thanks to netgalley for letting me preview this manga.
Like the previous ones by the same mangaka, this volume is also a stand alone and I am in love with it.
Friends to lovers is always an exciting trope, with particular dynamics which in this case was told in a truly tender way.
Reading it is a little caress to the heart and every now and then it's good.
A really cute and quick manga, with really pretty art! I would definitely read more from this creator again!
thank you for the copy, netgalley!
that was so cute omg :’)
i want to read it again eventually because it was just unbelievably wholesome!!!
no triggers that i can think of
