I loved Summers at the Saint. It mixed romance, murder, and grief into a fun holiday story that kept me turning the pages. I really enjoyed the characters and how Andrews wrapped all of their stories together. It had twists I did not see coming, which made Summers at the Saint feel more like a mystery than women's fiction.
The more I read from Mary Kay Andrews, the more I am hooked on her stories and writing style. Summers at the Saint is one to check out!
Thank you St. Martins Press and NetGalley for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I went into this book thinking it was just another chick-lit, rom-com, summer beach read (not that there is anything wrong with that, I love those books!) but I was so wrong. There was humor, mystery, suspense...it grabbed me right from the beginning. I may have also blown off work for an hour when I accidentally got engrossed and just kept reading straight through my lunch break.
Love Mary Kay Andrews and this audiobook was fantastic. Fast paced! While kind of cheesy and predicitable, a perfect summer time beach read/listen!
This was such a fun summer read! I read earlier in the summer and just realized that my review was never posted.
So sorry to the publisher and author for my mistake.
Seriously, if you need something to read by the pool, this is the one.
Thank you #Netgalley for the copy!
The Saint is a hotel on the coast that has signified so much for many different people. This is a private golf club and has an exclusive for members only mentality. This story bounces from childhood of Shannon and Tracy and their experience working at the club, which leads us to present day and how they lives turned out so differently. Some have secrets, while others are struggling to maintain the family legacy. Many twists and turns, an enjoyable read!
This story was not what I was expecting at all, but I still really enjoyed it. Felt it was a little long and repetitive, but it scratched that Summer reading itch.
I love Mary Kay Andrews’ books, she’s such a good story teller and this one reminded me of an Elin Hilderbrand beach read. This has a good mixture of family drama, mystery and romance. There’s always something going on so I never wanted to put it down. Also no shortage of characters which is my reason for taking a star off. It’s easy to follow the important characters, however it just wasn’t necessary to have 30+ extras even mentioned.
Thank you, NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for this ARC.
DNFed it after trying two times.
The setting was great but there was too much information, a mix of genres that didn't work well for me.
My first Mary Kay Andrews book. Loved the descriptions of the setting, The southern mystery vibe kept me hooked - will be trying more books by this author.
Traci Eddings was an outsider who worked at The Saint, an exclusive resort on the Georgian coast. She married Hoke, the boss's son, and she and Hoke managed the Saint until Hoke's untimely death. After inheriting the hotel, Traci is determined to get the Saint back on track to its glory days amidst financial troubles, staff changes, and infuriating and greedy in-laws. Amongst everything, a murder takes place and the mystery ensues for much of the story.
I was expecting a light and breezy summer read based off the bookcover but this was heavier than that. The book was also way longer than it needed to be with a myriad of characters. I enjoyed the murder mystery and loved the setting of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this eARC. Summers at the Saint is out now.
I enjoy reading books by this author and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed reading about the Saint and life working there and felt that the writing style made for a quick read.
This story was ok though I found it a bit too long for the actual story to be told. Seemed to drag a bit for me, and the little twists weren’t that interesting.
I had fun with this cozy mystery in a seaside resort. There were a lot of characters ….. a lot at first it was a bit confusing till I got them all sorted out. After that I thought this was a fun easy read, there were some dark topics in this book but really enjoyed how much I cared about the characters because of it. This is not my first book from this author and it won’t be my last ! I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for Auchan s to read this book for an honest review.
Summers at the Saint by Mary Kay Andrews was my highlight read of the summer. Andrews has a way of writing so that you root for the likable characters and you want to see the villains in the story gone.
The story takes place on the grounds of a well-known resort for well-to-do guests, whose employees are generally not so fortunate. Traci has been overseeing the running of the Cecilia for a long time, even after the death of her partner. She is extremely close to her niece, who dies of very strange circumstances. The novel centers around Traci trying to give love another chance, trying to keep the Cecilia afloat despite Hoke's family trying to run her into the ground, and trying to seek answers in the loss of her niece.
I found this to be many things - a delicious foray into the behind the scenes of Traci's hospitality world, a page-turning mystery into what happened to Parrish, and a journey following the underdog who succeeds over her despicable ex-family.
This is definitely a beach read, but also such good storytelling that I recommend it for any time of year. MKA is an author on my auto-buy list, and I can only say that for a few authors.
One of my personal indicators for a well written novel is if it keeps me guessing and Summer's at the Saint definitely kept me on my toes. I found this book to be a real page Turner, I couldn't put it down!
This is my second novel by Mary Kay Andrews. The first was a Christmas novel that gave me the perfect Hallmark-esque vibes. This was a fun switch to a beach read with a little bit of mystery. I definitely enjoyed this one and am looking for my next Mary Kay Andrews novel.
What a book! I absolutely loved reading this. Mary Kay Andrews always seems to come up with great stories, and this one is no exception. I went into this not really knowing much about it. From the title, I gathered it would be a summer or beach read like most others that I've read, full of friends and lovers. Summers at the Saint is a novel that i'd classify as a mystery. It kept me guessing until the very end.
"Summers at the Saint" offers a delightful mix of nostalgia and charm, capturing the essence of summer adventures. The characters are relatable, and the setting is vividly described, making it easy to get lost in the story. However, the plot can feel predictable at times, and some character arcs could use more depth. It's an enjoyable read for those looking for a light, feel-good escape, but it may not resonate with readers seeking something more profound.
This story of family secrets, mayhem, and murder threw me for a loop! What started out as a story about "the Saint,' a family owned and run resort, turned into a surprising mystery. I found the alternating viewpoints/chapters to be confusing, sort of like literary whiplash. However, the many characters and plot lines wrap up at the end.
Readers should be aware of profanity and some violence in the story. This makes a great vacation reading selection.
I received this novel from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
Another fun summer read from MKA. This one was a little slower and not my favorite from her. But it was still an interesting read.
