Thank you to net galley and the publisher for this book. I picked this book up cause the blurb of the book sounding so incredibly and interesting to read but sadly that wasn’t the cause at all. I really didn’t like narrator she sounded off sounded so sympathetic and calm and you could tell all the characters apart but when you get to half way you can’t really understand what character the narrator is talking about sadly as it all gets mixed up. The story was so bland and so interesting I kept reading as I wanted to know what happend but the clues the author sprinkles into the book don’t match up to the real killer at all as there only in the last 10% of the book which I thought was a bit unrealistic and unfair to the main characters in this story. I didn’t really many of the characters at all in this book they were so dull and so boring they only characters I liked were Mia and Jesse cause of their mother daughter relationship and bond they have together and there the only two characters that hold this whole book together. I would be interested in reading more books by this author in the future just sadly this one wasn’t for me

Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for an audiobook copy of this book. I was really excited to listen to this book, however, it was a bit of a letdown. Not a fan of the narrator for this one.sinly on the kid voice. The story was a little confusing with so many characters thrown at you. I lost interest quickly with this one.

This is a high quality quick listen. . Told over multiple timelines. This tells the atoey of Rosie who is convicted of killing her best friend when she is 12. She maintains her innocence and creates a new identity and new life cimpleye woth daughter. Years layer it appears on social media that her daughter is missing but she is right there. An investigative journalist Sadie believes in her innocence.
I loved tge pov and various side characters and red herrings. The narrator had a real feel for each character and did being the story to life. The problem i had with the story was rhe final twist did not seem realistic and made me question how realistic the original conviction would have been but as it would have been done to 12 people I guesse its a fine line. I felt i needed a few more loose ends tied up and explained in more detail to trully believe in the ending and twist. I loved all tg5e characters but just felt the ending let the story down.
I would still highly recommended this its still a solid 4 star listen as long as you can remember its a story and unlike me try relate it to real life.
Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'The Girl On The News' by Elisabeth Carpenter and narrated by Zoe Mills.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley Shelf and NetGalley for Elisabeth Carpenter, Bookouture publishers, Bookouture Audio, Bookouture anonymous and Hachette UK.
Publication date 29th January 2024.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'the Family On Smith Street' which I would also recommend.
This novel consists of 43 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
'The Girl On the News' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Elisabeth discusses neglect.
This book is very well written and narrated and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline.
I will admit that this book was a bit of a slow burn to start as the story starts to build up but I would definitely liken it to a rollercoaster ride. You open the page and then you start going up the ride to the peak and then all of a sudden you are thrown over the top with twists and turns with the speed building up and up until it comes to a fantastic ending. The book is written with both multiple protagonists as well as a dual timeline and Elisabeth weaves the different characters and the different timelines together perfectly building up the larger picture for the readers to see what happened in the past to lead to what was going on in the present. The storyline is ram packed with tension, drama, twists, lies, mystery, friendship, secrets, red herrings and much more! It is a captivating book that once I started listening to it I just couldn't stop and I was playing it through my earphones while doing jobs in the house, in the car when out and even through Alexa until I had devoured it in several hours!! There were several twists throughout the book. Although the book was slow to begin with it did pick up speed quite quickly and I enjoyed the unexpected twists and even the ones that were not a huge surprise. The ending was definitely unexpected and did leave me mind blown and considering how many crime books I have read that is definitely a huge bonus as it is getting harder and harder to surprise me. I am looking forward to seeing what Elisabeth comes up with next!
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture
This is one of the few books that I have listened 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrator Zoe Mills who did a great job bringing this story to life. I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity and Zoe did a fantastic job on both male and female characters voices!!! I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Elisabeth but also to listening to more books narrated by Zoe! I have previously listened to several books that Sarah has narrated and she really does do an absolutely amazing job ensuring the story comes to life for the reader. The books I have listened/read that Sarah has narrated and I would highly recommend are The Holiday Home by Daniel Hurst and The Italian Daughter by Soraya Lane.
The characters were all realistic and Elisabeth evocative writing skills and Zoe's fantastic narration brought each of them to life leaving you feel that you are standing next to each of them as they are telling you their stories. They each had their own unique personalities that I enjoyed getting to know as the story was being told. This is a book filled with lies, twists and one where you have no idea which characters are telling the truth or who are hiding secrets. regardless of whether you love or hate the characters they all work together perfectly to create a tension packed psychological drama that will keep you hooked throughout!
Congratulations Elisabeth on yet another absolutely gripping true page turner! I am looking forward to reading more of your books!!
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first two chapters of Elisabeth's fantastic 'The Family On Smith Street' which is another page turner and one I have read myself and would highly recommend!!
Overall a captivating and tension packed intriguing psychological thriller!!!

It was an interesting mystery however quite predictable. I’m not sure I enjoyed the audiobook as much as I hoped I would, I didn’t particularly enjoy the narrations of the male characters however apart from that the narrator did a wonderful job and the change in accents helped relate to characters more.
I didn’t quite enjoy the change in views of multiple characters however.
Overall although interesting I didn’t feel like it was a very memorable book.

This is another book that had an interesting premise, but didn’t totally work for me. For me, I think this would be another book that would have worked better if I had read it versus listening to it.
There are two timelines and at times it did get confusing for me. We have Rosie who killed her best friend when she was younger and spent time behind bars. Now she is all grown up with her own family. Like another book I recently listened to, the narrator’s child comes up on Facebook posts as a missing child when the child is in fact with mom. Things turn around over the course of the novel as her daughter actually ends up going missing!
The book is more about a series of child murders than Mia going missing and we also have a reporter, Sadie, who believes in Rosie’s innocence and has always believed her. Through a series of twists, what starts as a slow burn turns into a fast-moving story!
Zoe Mills narration was great! She really brought the story to life with her voice.
Many thanks to the publisher Bookouture for granting me a copy to listen to and review!

I felt for Jessie from the start, fully engaged in her truth coming out. I loved that Sadie was so invested in helping her throughout. Sadly, though, Jessie had to go through a parent’s worst nightmare for any real answers to result. This is one heck of a page turner!
Zoe Mills did a wonderful job narrating the different voices & bringing compassion to them.
Thank you, Elisabeth Carpenter, Bookouture, Bookouture audio & netgalley for my audiobook! All opinions are my own.

4.3⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thankyou #bookcouture and netgalley for the opportunity to read this arc for a honest review.
. Quite interesting story.
Every chapter has a questionable moment, as a mother who is on panic mode but also hiding from somewhere.
The story get more interesting when a police team is involved and couldn’t be trusted .
She is a strong woman but I guess the detective itself is the gold on this story .
Well written ending too that I did not expect .
Worth the read:)

I loved this beautifully written, twisty story which kept me guessing until the very end. The narrator was also excellent, enabling me to clearly picture each character. A definite five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!

First I would like to thank Bookouture Audio for providing me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the story of Jessie, artist and mother, who around the anniversary of her childhood best friend's murder starts to experience weird happenings with her life and she can't explain why. As a child Jessie was convicted of murdering her best friend and even though she claimed her innocence nobody believed her except a reporter, who also happened to be her friend's aunt. When random posts about Jessie's daughter, Mia, being kidnapped start appearing on Facebook, Jessie fears the worst that someone found out who she is and is coming to harm her daughter. With her husband Mark not being supportive, Jessie heads north to hide away with her mother until everything calms down. While this is happening to Jessie, the reporter Sadie is close to cracking the case she has been chasing down for 30 long years. As the anniversary of the murder gets closer Sadie and Jessie work together to figure out who murdered her friend and 3 other girls all those years ago.
What I Liked:
Audiobook quality, as this book is set in England sometimes when I increase the speed the quality of the accents get worse but I did not have that issue with this book at all easy to listen to no matter how fast I had it
Sadie, with her personal connection to the death I appreciated that this character stuck to her belief that Jessie never harmed her niece and there was a bigger story out there also that she was always so supportive of Jessie and refused to treat her any different
Twist, I have said this before that I read a lot of mystery/suspense books and I was legitimately surprised with the end of this book when we figure out who did it
Ending, I feel like often these books end with they caught the bad guy but we never know what happens next and this book did a great job with informing the audience what happened after
Characters, I do appreciate that these characters were very "real" in the sense that they had faults, feelings and sometimes weren't the best people and the book didn't shy away from that fact \
Multiple POVs, I liked how this book hopped between a few different characters as well as bringing in things like news articles and interview tapes that help paint a picture of the past and move the story along
Overall this was a quick read that had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't believe who the overall "big bad" was at the very end. If you are looking for a bit of a different kind of mystery/suspense story I would recommend you consider reading this book.

I highly recommend this to the armchair detectives of the world! A totally addictive page-turner that will have you racing through the pages and reeling at the twists! A fantastic read… Had me guessing till the last pages! Narrators brilliant!

2x narration speed presented no problems. Narrator was well chosen and delivered.
Rosie's daughter Mia is popping up on Facebook as a "missing child", her friend is all too keen to help, her husband is MIA... and then there's Sadie, who's interviews about the past killing of a little girl intersperse the story to create two timelines where the reader is slowing piecing together a sad, tragic story.
The Girl on the News kept the pace moving, but it takes a while for the pieces to start falling together. That said, I was eager to keep listening--and the ending certainly paid off.
While I think 95% of the plot line was easy to figure out, I still really enjoyed the twists, turns, and red herrings along the way.
Overall: 4 (I really liked it)
I'll tell my students about: language, alcohol, drugs, sex, trauma, child death (past tense), violence/killing
**Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture Audio for the free ALC. All opinions expressed are my own.**

Disappeared off my app before I could listen, despite it being downloaded - couldn't put it back on.

Wow, that was a wild ride! I just knew it was her brother! Also how creepy was her husband who stalked her to get close to her?!?! This was my 1st book by Mark Dawson but it will not be my last, I am adding all of his books to my TBR!

I went back and forth on the review of this one. It was definitely a slow burn for me. I was interested but not hooked. I had thoughts in my head about who did it and went back and forth and I guess I was sort of right and so I do get a little disappointed in books when I sort of have it figured out. But the way the book is written I think maybe it was made for you to figure it out and then get nervous throughout knowing you know and following the character through the situations! I liked this but didn't love it that's why I gave it 3 stars. At some points I felt maybe it drug on a bit longer than it needed to but maybe that's because I wanted more about the other aspects and was just waiting to hear about those and didn't want to know about the other story lines as they didn't draw me in as much as the other characters did. Overall I am happy I read/listened to it and did enjoy it.

The Girl on the News is Rosie's daughter, Mia, they say that she is missing and kidnapping is suspected, except she is safe at home. Why would anyone play a sick joke like this? Does this have anything to do with what Rosie was accused of all those years ago? And what happens when Mia really is kidnapped?
This story was such a great psychological thriller, more slow-burn than action-packed. The book itself was a quick read that kept me guessing and I highly enjoyed it. I particularly liked the added suspense that the narrator was able to lend to the plot and would recommend reading it this way.
As always, look to the trigger warnings prior to reading this. It is a thriller, so dark topics come up. It is not super fast-paced, nor is it super complex. If these are things that you require in your books then it may not be for you.
While not the most complex thriller I have ever read, the twists and turns were really well done. Elisabeth Carpenter did a wonderful job in how she wrote this, because I read it in one sitting and my interest was piqued from the very beginning. This is definitely a great addition to the genre and anyone who is partial to thrillers should read this one!

Oh dear! What a story! So we are told that a 12 year old girl was charged for the murder of her best friend. Really?? For me this is hard to understand, since the law is a bit different in my home country.
So this little girl payed not even with her punishment but also with all her futur plans. But she got out of it and made something of herself.
When her little daughter goes missing all of her past comes back again.
She has to face it- no matter how hard it will be.
In my humble opinion Zoe Mills did a fantastic job telling this story and I
Thank #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for this audiobook

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book early. Unfortunately I didn't like it at all. I had the audio ARC of this book and that is definitely not the best way to consume this book. The book is about a mother who sees a report that her daughter is missing, but she thinks she knows where her daughter is so she doesn't understand why someone is faking her disappearance. Thats what the synopsis leads you to believe anyway, however this book is actually about a series of children's murders that happened years ago and who was accused, who it actually was, etc. There are a ton of characters and perspectives thrown at you and it was a little confusing on audio, but moreso it just felt like this book tried to do WAY too much and couldn't' accomplish any of it. Plot holes were huge, everything was underdeveloped, and the conclusion happened shortly after the "problem" occurred. This just wasn't good.

Rose spends her adult life trying to move on from the horrors of her childhood. Unfortunately for her the past catches back up to her and now her daughter is in danger. This was an interesting read for me, in the beginning pretty engrossed in the story but quickly found some things just unbelievable.
Rosie’s conviction was one of them, I had a hard time believing something like that under those same circumstances could actually happen. I also had some slight difficulty keeping up with all the time jumps and felt like some of them didn’t help push the story further but dragged it out instead.
Also the conclusion to the story felt kinda flat for me and was pretty predictable. I liked the summary of the novel but the overall execution didn’t hit for me. It was still a pretty decent read.

The Girl on the News:
I really enjoyed this audiobook. It was very slow at the start, but as you continue listening, it gets better and better.
Rosie is only 12 years old when she is convicted of murdering her best friend. Sadie is an investigative journalist. She believes Rosie is innocent. The story has so many twists and turns that will keep you on edge.
I love how strong Rosie's character is; she never lets herself down. Honestly, I did not see that ending coming.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an ARC of the audiobook.
