Firstly, thank you to NetGalley for the eARC opportunity to read this book!

I picked this up because the title and cover were too cute to pass up! I stayed for the chemistry, the FMC and MMC had me hooked and I was rooting for them throughout my entire read!

I didn’t catch it at first but it seems very Pride & Prejudice inspired.

This was an EGGcelent read - funny, banter filled, mental illness representation, and animal lovers!

The Pride & Prejudice vibes are excellent in this book. The FMC is fantastic and her love of her chickens is great fun. The twist is excellent and the slow burn is perfection.

This book was a very fun rom com. I have never read about chicken shows before so it was a very creative fun concept. My issue with it was the length of the story. It felt too short so it lacked some character depth but was overall very fun.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.

I am drawn to romance novels with animals on the cover. Dog, cat, emu, or chicken, I'm an animal lover and love books about people who love them too finding love.

I enjoyed this rom-com not just for the show chickens. Kasey Morris has penned a fun cast of characters that will keep you reading

I really enjoyed this entertaining, sweet romcom, involving lots of poultry. It was easy to read and get immersed in this story. It was also short and only took me two days to read it. I read the first half of the book in just my first sitting. I got completely engrossed in this enemies-to-lovers romance story.

There is some language, a few kissing scenes, and one spicy scene that I would rate P-13, verging on R, but it’s not too graphic and doesn’t last long at all.

I had such a fun time learning about chicken breeding/showing. You can tell that the author either did a lot of research or has experience in this feathered world. It really came through her descriptions, which helped to engross me more in this book. I thought the settings were unique and fun. I’ve never read a book about poultry shows and judging. It took me back to my childhood days when my family would go to the state fair, where we visited all the animal buildings/tents and watched some animal showings. Definitely read the author’s note at the end, where she gives more info about chickens and showings, which was really interesting. Also, who knew chicken politics was a thing?! 😆 I appreciated the drama and conflict we saw with some shenanigans happening. It made me laugh and was a nice touch to keep it entertaining.

I thought the pacing was perfect. Nothing ever slowed down for me. I loved all the different locations and settings. We travel between the U.S. and England. I was never bored and kept wanting to know what would happen next. However, some scenes felt a bit rushed, while others didn’t feel like there was enough detail and description. I thought some could’ve been a bit longer to feel more satisfying.

I enjoyed getting to know George and Madeline. They were easy characters to like and root for and were relatable. They also had great chemistry together, and the banter was engaging. Madeline deals with a disability after being in a severe car accident. I loved how it never stopped her from pursuing her dreams, and she continued to live her life to the fullest. She was a very determined, headstrong, independent, and admirable woman. However, she did have a bit of a temper and often overreacted. I thought her reasons for not liking George initially were a little extreme. So the whole enemies-to-lovers felt forced and weird. I’m also not the biggest fan of this romance trope so it could’ve just been me and my preferences. I also would’ve liked to have seen her stand her ground a bit more toward Chad when she was assisting him in judging shows.

I liked watching the romance unfold but at times, some scenes, specifically the intimate scenes, came out of nowhere and felt awkwardly placed in the story. I would’ve liked more buildup. It’s also a surface-level, shallow romance so I would categorize this as more of a fluffy, sweet, and cute romcom instead of a dramatic, serious love story. I wish there were a little bit more depth to the romantic relationship and character development, but it’s not that kind of story. So it’s easy to let those elements slide.

I also liked the side characters and their interactions with Madeline and George. With Patricia, Madeline’s friend, we get some friendship conflict. With William, George’s godfather, and Lily, George’s sister, we get some family conflict. So this story goes beyond romance with these other relationships, which I appreciated. It kept the story interesting and not tiresome with only one plotline.

Overall, I was surprised by how much I liked this story. It was so delightful, funny, charming, and fun. If you’re looking for a lighthearted, sweet romcom and want to learn more about poultry showings, then I highly recommend this book!! I would love to read more from this author.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

I did not finish this book. I made it 5 chapters through and it wasn't keeping my attention. I didn't think it would be to much about the chickens and it was kind of boring. I'm not going to rate this book; as I didn't finish the book. Only had to give "stars" to submit this information.

As a hobby chicken farmer and romance reader, this book was a thrill to read.
Writing was excellent, cheeky and cute. Characters were well developed and relatable. One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers so it definitely didn't disappoint there. In addition, as the authors debut novel it was very well done! I don't know why it always surprises me when debut novels end up being a hit read for me, but it never ceases to amaze me and I hope more books come from Kasey.
While I'm not in the show business side of chickens, I enjoyed learning about that aspect of the characters world and found it easy to follow along. Overall I think this was a fun read and have already recommended it to some of my chicken loving, rom-com reading, friends. Thank you Netgalley and Kasey for gifting me a copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review!

This story was a lovely surprise - truly delightful! There was so much to love - the characters (human and poultry), some slight drama/poultry shenanigans, the writing, and that it was a wholesome/heartwarming Rom-Com.

I never realized that I would become so interested in the inner-workings of the Poultry show circuit and honestly, didn't even know Poultry shows were a thing, outside of maybe a state fair. The setting truly made this story stand out, made it unique, since I've not seen it before.

The characters and their chemistry were divine. "Some men like to send a dozen roses. I prefer to send a dozen chickens." I also loved the side characters: Patricia, William, Sir Lancelot (goose), Elsie (chicken), etc. However, I could have used a little more relationship development and interactions between George and Mads.

This is a story that I have already highly recommended to family and friends!!

Thank you NetGalley and Kasey Morris for a copy of the free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4/5!
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I read it in one sitting lol.
Before reading I had 0 knowledge of show chickens or how any of the contests worked. So, I was a bit worried that I would not love the book.
Now that I have some knowledge, it was very interesting! I really did enjoy the book it hooked me from the beginning!

It was a tad predicable (i knew that her apprentice judge would be bad/ she gets with george) but that’s what i loved about it! it was a cute romance book and it was an easy read!

I LOVE the representation with the FMC. She is disabled and has PTSD and it’s great seeing different kinds of people in books💕

I didn’t realise how invested I could get when it came to poultry.

There was a shocking event in the first chapter, and from the start the writing had me hooked. I didn’t expect to find devastatingly beautiful descriptions within a story about chickens, but I found myself feeling so many emotions whilst reading Love & Chickens. I loved the dynamic between the two main characters and I thoroughly enjoyed the story line too.

It was exactly my kind of romance. It has the Pride and Prejudice element, but embedded within a modern landscape framed by the aviary world. Which actually works so well. It touched on modern day issues, all the while linking to certain concepts from Pride & Prejudice. These changes were achieved in an unexpected, new, fresh way that always worked. I found myself thinking about what could happen next, and I’ll be honest, I’ve contemplated the story not only whilst reading it, but afterwards.

This book put a smile on my face, when I think of it it makes me feel so happy and it’s a 5 star read for me. It also sits in the category of books I will re-read.

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Who knew the poultry world was so full of drama and foul play?
(See what I did there?)

Cons:
Rushed scenes
Didn’t feel the romance or connection between Madeline and George
Dialogue and pacing were a bit choppy and juvenile.

Pros:
Loved the story itself and the characters
Unique storyline and events from other books I’ve read
Cozy romance
Fast read and didn’t want to put it down

love and chickens by kasey morris was adorably quirky and unlike any romcom i’ve read. i have 5 hens at home and this was right up my alley. there was a great balance of romance and plot and i loved that there actually was a plot! i didn’t fully connect with the characters which is why this is a 4 star from me but overall a cute, quick lighthearted read!

As a chicken owner and lover, I was psyched to see a romance book centered around the poultry world and their care and showmanship. This book also brought in disability, found family, enemies to lovers and a hint of England. I mean, it had all my happy things! Who knew there’d be so much much behind the scenes drama in the world of chicken/geese showing?! I certainly didn’t but I was here for every minute of it!
Madeline is back to the show world after a horrible accident on her way to a chicken show that nearly ended her life and took all but one of her prized chickens. She’s got a real chip on her shoulder against English Judge George Cooper because he’s told her that her birds were mediocre at best, which she knows is categorically not true, but he thinks so because his family back in England bred another breed and feels they are superior.
Soon they are working together to break down the corruption in the Association and help Maddie’s friend Patricia’s goose finally get the recognition it deserves.
George stole my heart when rather than send her flowers to court her, he sent her a dozen of his families best chickens.
Thanks to the author and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

So I somehow missed this was a loose Pride & Prejudice retelling and so was very nuch thrown for a loop when the middle section with her in English suddenly had a Wickham and the male lead was like, "I like you despite all my efforts." Nothing else was like P&P though, so it was kind of odd.

The world of chicken/poultry shows was wildly entertaining, and I really liked that unique element. BUT then the story went weird again with the scandal they are investigating.

Basically it felt like the author was mashing her favorite stories/tropes into this romcom, come hell or come highwater, and the choices didn't work for me.

Satisfying enough to finish, but not good enough to be elevated beyond 3 stars for me.

This was a really cute book! The relationship could have been fleshed out a little more, but it was a fun read that I'd recommend!
